Meet my co-curator, Annaliisa Benston (@famousonmars) creative producer at #satelliteartfair. The ethos of this Womxns day project is something near and dear to AnnaLiisa’s own personal work and curatorial practice, Famous On Mars, which has a strong emphasis on the future of how artwork is experienced through live activations, social media outlets, and intersectional feminism.

NTRFACE PROFILES | ANNALIISA BENSTON
AnnaLiisa translates this experience into helping co-curate the International Womxn’s Exhibition. The ethos of the event is something near and dear to AnnaLiisa’s own personal work and curatorial practice, Famous On Mars, which has a strong emphasis on the future of how artwork is experienced through live activations, social media outlets, and intersectional feminism. Her interactive installations typically feature artwork, wearable art objects, and typically live tattooing, inclusiveness, and social codification. Her work has been seen in galleries such as The Hole, Kunsthalle Galapagos, Superchief Gallery, Head Too Heavy, Gateway Projects, The New Women's Space, and more. Publications include Posture Magazine, The Visual Arts Journal, The Wallstreet Journal, Cooties Zine, Arte Fuse, Lady Gunn Magazine, Social Decay, Miami News, Artnet, Hyperallergic, and Bushwick Daily.
AnnaLiisa Benston (FamousOnMars) a Brooklyn based installation artist, curator and director who earned her BFA from Pratt Institute and MFA from School of Visual Arts. I chose to title the exhibition FANTASY ISLAND after Shey Rivera’s digital work by the same name. I felt it was important to further unpack the exotification of women from places like South America, the Caribbean, and the Philippines, where the media turns their heads at disparities occurring there daily. In this video, Shey shares the story of their culture and the message behind their work.

NTRFACE PROFILES | SILVERIO CASTILLO
Silverio Castillo was born and raised in New York City. As a first-generation American, Silverio comes from a strong breed of Latina women. Her great grandmother migrated from the Dominican Republic to the Lower East Side in 1965. She attended The Fashion Institute of Technology for her BFA. Currently, in Brooklyn, her work ranges from traditional fine art to textile and Streetwear.
Artist Statement
Silverio’s work for this show takes a critical view of the political, social, and cultural climate we are living in today. Art remains a strong contender of how we share our thoughts and ideas. In this current climate, it is important now more than ever to rally together and share the stories within the communities we are apart of. Silverio’s work is meant to empower and elevate women through text and imagery, easily blending contemporary and classical mediums. The world will not change in an instant, but through art and community, it can spread slowly into our everyday thoughts and choices.
