I chose to title the exhibition FANTASY ISLAND after Shey Rivera’s digital work by the same name. I felt it was important to further unpack the exotification of women from places like South America, the Caribbean, and the Philippines, where the media turns their heads at disparities occurring there daily. In this video, Shey shares the story of their culture and the message behind their work.

Here we offer a replay of our day 2 prompt from April, as well as a look back at one of the collections and presentations of poems created by me, Reza Rites - 3 AM IS THE NEW BLACK Founder and Publisher. Below you'll find more information about "I Am Salt Water" and a link to see one of the live "performances" I did under the theme; I am accepting inquiries/invitations to revive and present/perform this body of work. Shout-out to my cousin, @kellycc for serving as my "usher" and co-congregant, that day, and to @sheyriv for the opportunity. “I Am Salt Water: Honoring the Sacred Motions of Gaia LaVonne Gallactica” was an interactive performance art piece created by 3 AM IS THE NEW BLACK Founder/Publisher Reza Clifton. It is part prayer, part multimedia ceremony, and part poetry performance. Also described as a “theological fantasy story” told through poetry, I am Salt Water tells the story of Gaia LaVonne Gallactica, a deity who “is a protector...of and from the waters” who “Reza Rites” says first appeared in her life in 6th grade, at a time when she was standing up to a bully on behalf of herself and her classmates. NTRFACE PROFILES | SHEY RIVERA

Shey Rivera Ríos (pronouns: they/them) is a multi-genre artist and arts manager. Rivera’s work is at the intersection of art/culture, digital media, and civic engagement. Rivera is the former Artistic Director at AS220, where they served for 8 years and succeeded founder Umberto Crenca, leading the organization as part of a Co-Director model. As an artist, they are active in the mediums of performance, installation, digital media, and poetry/narrative. The creations spam several genres and a myriad of topics, from home to capitalism to queerness to magic. Rivera is also a performance curator and producer of interventions that activate people creatively. Currently, Rivera serves as the Director of Inclusive Regional Development, at the MIT CoLab in the Dept of Urban Planning. sheyrivera.com | @sheyriv
