I gotta hold myself back because I could go into over 1,000 words talking about this issue… I won’t post Ship Hate I say to myself… BUT I WILL POST OPINIONS. So I’ll try to make these bullet point brief and non-catty but you’ve been warned this is basically Ship Hate (I’m so sorry I said I wouldn’t but I cannot hold myself back heeeeere!). But again do not EVER send Hate to a Creator or Individual just because you do not like their Ships. EVER. You can hate a Ship, you can talk about how you hate that Ship, but you DO NOT send that to people Creating Fanwork because Fanwork can be whatever the person making it wants.

But anyway…

LIKE YEAH NO I DON’T GET IT AT ALLLLLL. I mean look I’m all for Crack Ship and you can Ship whatever you damn please but the prevalence of this one baffles me. My best guess is because they are people two favorites (I know they are mine) they just… shove them together??? But in my Headcanons I’m like excuse you that’s her SON.

It’s feels very Comp-Het to me tho. Like “oh here’s a guy roughly her age who she doesn’t hate” (because of how Spiders age I actually disagree that Shiro is the same age as the other Student Reincarnation but that’s me being a Insect/Arachnid nerd). Like I do feel that Shiro, Ariel, Sophia, Kyouya, and Mera are a little Family but I always feel Shiro and Ariel (because though Shiro cares about the others Ariel is Clearly her focus) take a mentor role (in my HCs Moms but also like in Canon they do too sooooo). Also just I’ve seen a lot of passive aggressive hate for Shiro as a Lesbain, like you don’t have to like all Ships or HCs but I cannot stress enough the WAY people are against it is just rubs me wrong.

The last point because this is what gets me the most!!!! Is I feel they dumb them both down to “Cool Samurai/Soilder” and “Dere Girl”. Like NONE of Shiro’s insanity is portrayed in that content at all!!! And Kyouya just arrrrh I’ve Written A LOT about my perception of his trauma and I have a lot of opinions about it!!! So to see them dumb him down to “cool dude (probably to project onto)” FUCKIN SUCKS. Also side note (Trigger Warning)… we’ve… seen how Shiro deals with S*icidal Thoughts when she thought Mera might be feeling that way (vol 6)… she is most definitely NOT the person who should be dealing with that.

Also also we just gonna ignore how Kyouya talks about Shun and Katia CONSTANTLY despite not having seen them in 15 years…? Okay.

3. VLD NOTP?

Lotura. By the time Lotor was a developed character in VLD, I'd been through DotU, Devil's Due, and other Voltron materials. How I see Lotura is colored by how their dynamics were set up across broader Voltron lore: a leetle lottle rapey.

Now. Let's be clear. I am open to people shipping or writing about anything (oh, here's spice for the crowd that I never thought I'd admit on tumblr main: if you asked me, I'd defend RPF slash). I think that fandom communities are in boon for tackling any and all topics. Shipping does not mean you are endorsing ethical frameworks... it means you like playing with a dynamic - and that can be any dynamic... because different dynamics are interesting in fiction and can be written for a variety of effects, purposes, colors, explorations, enjoyments, reflections, and ends.

But for me, VLD!Lotura shippers overall investigated it as a sincere ship. And I get that VLD Lotura is not DotU Lotor and Allura. I get that most haven't seen DotU. And I get that people can also reimagine characters any way they want - as more messed up or less messed up or so messed up a tornado is jealous of their destruction. But it means it vibes weird to me. I can't see past Lotor's weird sexual obsessions with Allura across the spans of Voltrondom, and that's not a thing I'm personally fawning over in a ship. But that's just me, and for all people who have a good time, please keep having your good time. ^.^

4. Is there a popular pairing you don’t necessarily dislike but aren’t too invested in?

These fall under the spectrum from "dislike" to "decidedly tepid."

Any ship with Pidge and any ship with Hunk that's not Hunk x Shay. My VLD ships have concentrated around characters like Keith, Matt, Shiro, and a little bit of Lance as a byproduct. But as someone who doesn't like everyone paired off, I tend to be rigid about wanting certain enclaves to remain gloriously platonic, as platonic is the end-all best-all type of relationship to me. There's a specific type of platonic dynamic that I like writing in all my works and that type of platonic dynamic is something I don't want tampered with when I find it in media I consume. So that means we don't touch the space engineers. Pidge and Hunk work endlessly great as a BROTP and I don't want that to change. Their BROTP is so, so, so good. I also headcanon Pidge rather ace-ly, so I just don't want her in a ship.

Also, Allurance. This is again colored by broader Voltrondom. I go in, Kallura has been the deal for decades, I like Kallura, they're friggin getting married in one comic I mean come on, I am preprogrammed to not think Lance and Allura could be an item. Showrunners changing the one canon relationship that's been around from the near-beginning would be wild, amirite? And yet they did. And there's nothing wrong with it! It doesn't bother me. It's cool they explored something new and kudos. But there was nothing in broader Voltrondom to make me care about it, nor did I find Lance and Allura's relationship compelling enough in VLD proper. I get why Lance and Allura connect up in VLD and it's fine, it's perfectly fine, it's just not sparking for me.

I have talked your socks off about VLD alone so I'll end it there, but feel free to poke me again if you want me to opine on another fandom. XD Whether or not people like my takes, I'll admit it's fun to acknowledge how I feel on these ones.

💛: What is a popular ship you just can't get behind, and why?

I mean, this is not really surprising, since everyone knows, but Kirk/Spock. I don't really have a reason apart from "it makes me feel nothing", so I'm not interested in exploring it in a romantic/sexual sense. Again, I feel like I need to say it, I like their friendship in the show. I just don't read into their scenes because they don't make me go !!! And I prefer their relationships with other characters more.

(There are a few outside things factoring into why I refuse to even give it a chance, but it's primarily because I really do not feel the ship, even though on paper it might be similar to other ships I do ship.)

There are other TOS/SNW/AOS ships I don't like, but I don't think they're very popular.

Oh, wait, I don't also ship Pike and Una romantically. It also doesn't hit any shipping bells. I wouldn't mind if they put them together, I guess, but I don't see them romantically at all. (SNW!Pike is at fault, actually, he's very unshippable imho)

idk, what is unpopular? like obviously Spock/Chapel is unpopular in certain circles, but it's liked in others, the same goes for Spock/T'Pring or aos!Spock/Uhura. Yes, I like all of these.
