if i see someone else whining about how the fight with chimera was too short, anticlimactic and generally pathetic, i will punch a wall.

i present you the lightning thief, chapter 13 'i plunge to my death', the chimera "fight":

i highlighted the parts when percy does anything, but when you take a closer look, it's mostly dodging, and most definitely not actually fighting. because that's just what this particular fragment looks: percy is scared, he doesn't know how to act, barely does anything and then takes the leap. that's it. short and amateurish.

and when you carefully read through percy's fights in tlt, you'll see he either gets lucky or, more or less consciously, uses water. when he fought with luke during training, he suddenly won after he splashed his head with water - before that, he wasn't much better than anyone else. the same with clarisse, he starts getting advantage when he accidentally enters the stream.

which makes sense.

percy is literally 12 years old. twelve. in the book, he has 2 weeks of training before the quest begins. in the show? probably like 2 days. yes, he becomes a good and a smart swordsman, but people seem to forget that it took him time to master his skills, as it would for anyone.

I love being a hater but I also love being an Enjoyer, so what I like to do is enjoy something so aggressively and deeply that I come to know everything about it, and bc I know everything, I can find (minor and major) things to complain about. as a fun activity. enrichment. but then I do that, and people think I actually hate this thing. they’ll be like, oh, good to know about (flaw), I was gonna check that thing out but now I’ll steer clear. you don’t get it. watching The Dragon Prince is a problem because every time people express discontent with another cartoon show it's almost always something TDP did really fucking well so i just default to like.

you want multiple fleshed out villains / antagonists with backstories and well developed motivations who are also wrong and not let off the hook for their actions? say hello to viren, aaravos, claudia, karim, and more.

you want varied queer rep and multiple trans/nb characters? meet an assassin and a blacksmith and a god and a sign language interpreter and a boy who loves plants and his unhinged girlfriend and married queens and rival enemies to lovers wlw who are now planning their wedding.

you want complex family dynamics regarding culture, legacy, power, and abuse? meet the mage fam, the sunfire royal family, the two main princes, adopted children with four parents, step and half siblings and blended families, etc, all explored in their heart and messiness.

you want varied and in depth character for disabled characters and characters of colour? you have a helpful blind pirate and a bitter blind dragon and a sweet amputee wolf and a deaf lesbian general who's also asian. 2/3 main characters are biracial. every couple is interracial. elves and humans alike have a variety of races and we see all of them on display.

you want to explore cycles of violence and healing and grief and war and found family? you want interesting and varied magic systems? you want ethical dilemmas and grey morality and characters being forced to make bad choices for good reasons? well done redemption arcs that still feel fresh, discussions of culture and religion and the death penalty? friends and family becoming enemies and enemies becoming friends and family?

just watched I Saw the TV Glow and then looked at some reddit posts abt it (i know, why?) and man so many people Do Not Get It. even queer ppl commenting in these threads criticizing certain aspects of it are just. missing the point. like one person saying they didn't like how the movie focused so much on the Pink Opaque and the show's characters and feeling like they came away from the movie knowing more abt the show's character's than the "real characters" and i am like ???? don't you GET that the "real" characters were not in fact their real selves??? their real selves WERE the show characters, and they're purposely trapped away, forced to be these other versions of themselves that feel suffocating and less real but which they're made to believe are their real selves like hello???? i am also laughing at ppl saying they didn't like having to dig deep for meaning and unpack metaphors and thus found it "boring." couldn't be me! i love digging. it's also, not that hard to understand the metaphors though imo?? anyways EYE i am chewing on all of this and Feeling Things.

im sure its been said already but as the election draws near more and more liberals will come out of the woodwork to shame people with a conscience to give away their vote to the democrats for free. i'm already seeing posts saying "why aren't people more concerned about a trump presidency?" you want to know why? it's because people already know he's bad. everyone already knows what he is and what he's done and what he'll do. there's nothing to discuss. he's a racist despotic worm of a man. there's nothing else to say.

biden is currently president. the genocide is happening under his watch. he's the one funding isra*l and arming them; he's sidestepped congress more than once to give them weapons. by oct. 27, the biden administration already knew that "Israel was regularly bombing buildings without solid intelligence that they were legitimate military targets." the state department/biden have engaged in atrocity propaganda, cast doubt on the legitimacy of the death toll recorded by the gaza health ministry, and so on. the united states is currently in the process of trying to pin the "war in gaza" on netanyahu (see sen. schumer's speech) after months of backing blatant genocide as a means to act as if they're "doing something" about the genocide (Instead of, say, threatening to cut off all aid to israel with the condition that all hostilities in gaza, the west bank, and occupied jerusalem are halted immediately and permanently, allowing palestinians freedom to travel, allowing aid into gaza, etc etc etc.)

the long and short of it is that liberals view their own lives as being worth more than palestinians'. that's it. they'll vote for another 4 years of the guy ushering in genocide and supporting apartheid + settler colonialism because he isn't outright attacking them (despite various laws and rulings happening both at the supreme court level and at the local level all over the country that will endanger people). they'll settle for the illusion of safety and security and shame anyone with a conscience and accuse them of "supporting the republicans" when in an actual democracy you would be able to use your vote as leverage to extract concessions from those who want to be elected. that's how it's supposed to fucking work.

democrats are not owed people's vote. if biden loses, it will be biden's fault; it will be his campaign's fault; it will be the democrats' fault. trump is bad; the republicans are bad. we already know this. this is not an endorsement of either. but if democrats are too cowardly and feckless and servile to the motivations of the american empire and never do anything for their constituents then why the fuck should anyone vote for them. you want to get mad at someone, why don't you do something useful and stop worrying about team-sports with a purely selfish basis and start hounding the people in power who are supposed to serve you, the voter.

Third time I get a huge ask about representation in dungeon meshi.

People praise dungeon meshi for representation cause they are comparing it to other anime, the reason is that simple.

Some people do exaggerate on the compliments and Dungeon Meshi has a colorism problem but I think it's kinda silly to pretend you don't understand why it gets praised, unless you have never watched anime before.

Also race representation isn't the only representation that people praise Dungeon Meshi for, what was the last anime you've seen where heavier looking people weren't the butt of the joke if they were there at all? Not even anime, media in general? What was the last show you've seen where disabled people are defined by more than just their disability? Not that many, the fact is that dungeon meshi is a step in the right direction even if it's not good enough it's a start.

For the piss on the poor crowd: The good parts of Dungeon Meshi don't erase the bad parts, the bad parts don't erase the good parts.
