companions react to news of the institute christmas party courser revolution and the fact that the institute is now apparently populated entirely by festive rogue coursers in elf costumes and also what ramifications this has on the politics of the commonwealth as a whole. father's drowned corpse, still in his silly santa hat, is now impaled on the antlers of the fake reindeer on the sleigh prop by the institute's metaphorical front door as a warning and a symbol of their casting off chains.
Cait: “You have to at least give them some points for creativity.”
Cait pulls a face, but says, “I guess.”
“Come on, Cait. You could at least admit it’s a little funny. I’d have paid good money to be a fly on the wall that day.”
“It’s fucked up, is what it is. How are you so calm?”
“How are you so stressed?” They lean back in their chair, folding their arms contentedly. “They basically did our job for us. No more Institute.”
She sighs. “You’re nuts.”
“Maybe. I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens, huh? Maybe they’ll retreat to their underground hidey-hole and leave the Commonwealth alone.”
“Not countin’ on it.”
“You can be as pessimistic as you like. The way I see it, this is a good thing both ways. Either the Institute collapses without strict management- which would be good- the coursers decide they don’t believe in what the Institute was doing before and stop- also good- or we go in there and only have to kill half of what was there. A win-win-win situation.”
She shakes her head. “Whatever you say. I’m not buyin’ it.”
Curie: “The absurdity of the situation is certainly not lost on me, Madam/Monsieur, but surely there are still, ah, consequences for this?”
“Oh, sure, yeah, definitely. I mean, they’ve basically got my son on a pike on the CIT lawn. But, you know, don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things, as the old saying goes.”
“I... do not think this is a ‘petty thing’ anymore.”
They wave a hand dismissively. “We’ll wait for the dust to settle, then go check it out. Until then, I’m not jumping to any conclusions.”
“I am merely saying that, given the evidence, this seems quite disastrous, especially in terms of political instability.”
“Ah, who cares about politics? Unless they or someone else starts a war, it’ll be fine. Let ‘em live a little. Everybody’s gotta have a rebellious teenager phase at some point.”
Curie wasn’t sure this counted as being a rebellious teen, but if that was what brought sole comfort, she would let them have it.
Danse: Listening Post Bravo is quiet. That’s how he likes it, and how it’s going to stay.
Courser uprising. Of course, it was a courser uprising. What else could it have been? Those things are killing machines; death is everything they were designed for, and now they’ve taken the reigns and can do as they see fit across the Commonwealth with no masters to keep them in check.
He pulls himself a little tighter into his corner. God, what a mess. This is over. They needed to go back to DC and forget they had ever heard of the Institute. Tactical retreat. If Arthur wasn’t so far on his warpath, he might have even suggested it, but he was six feet deep in his “now’s the time to strike” speech with no sign of stopping to think about the hole he was digging.
Well, Arthur could do what he wanted. Danse has had enough of this, enough of the goddamn Commonwealth, enough of the synths, enough of it all. This was his home, now, and he was going to sit here and plant potatoes and forget anything that happened outside. Especially the fact that coursers even existed and could, presumably, come knocking on his door at any moment.
He was going to make an effort to forget that first.
Deacon: He lets out a long, low, whistle, then turns to Dez. “We should’ve thought of that one first, Boss. It’s genius.”
“It’s madness.” Desdemona pinches the bridge of her nose. “But I suppose it works in our favor, at least for now. There should be chaos in the Institute right about now.”
“Other synths probably saw the carnage.” Glory pipes up. “They might be getting some similar ideas. This could be our moment.”
“Who would’ve predicted this, though?” Deacon grins. “It’s so out there that I can’t even be surprised that it happened. I mean, tell me “Holiday Office Party Leads to Destruction of Commonwealth Boogeyman” doesn’t sound like a headline you’d see in the Publick these days. It’s the perfect brand of Commonwealth crazy.”
“The Brotherhood is going to want to get on this,” Carrington says, shooting a glare Deacon’s direction. “We need to act before they can get there.”
“I’ve reached out to our man on the inside,” Deacon replies, glaring back. “But until we hear back, we might as well enjoy the show.”
Dez shakes her head. “I suppose so.”
Gage: “Honestly? Can’t blame ‘em. That holiday party sounds like an actual nightmare. I’d kill someone if they stuck elf ears on me, too.”
“Damn. There go my plans for next Christmas.”
Sole’s tone is dry enough he can’t tell if they’re joking. “I’m serious, Overboss. You even look at me with a costume-”
“I value my life, thanks.”
“Just providin’ fair warning. I don’t think any of the others would take kindly to it, either.”
They shake their head. “Mason wouldn’t mind. He practically dresses up in a costume every day.”
“Are you shitting me? He’d be the one that hated it the most.”
“Absolutely not. Mags would hate it the most.”
He thinks about it a moment, then replies, “Fair point, but what about Nisha?”
Sole sucks in a tense breath. “Oh, that’d be a mess. A bloody, ugly mess. Moral of the story: no holiday parties.”
“Good advice.”
Hancock: “I mean, good for them?” He stares at the ceiling, still a little baffled. “I guess?”
“But what does this mean, John?” Fahrenheit lights up a cigarette across from him.
“Well, we’ll be fine. I have that on good authority. Everybody else...” He makes a face.
“Exactly. No one knows.”
“No one even knew this was an option.” Smoke hisses between his teeth. “I mean, it’s fitting that they’d go up in smoke because of their own arrogance, but still.”
“People are losing it.”
He snorts. “Think of the Brotherhood. They must be havin’ a real heyday over there. But us? We’ll be fine. That’s what matters, right?”
“That’s what matters.”
MacCready: “I honestly don’t know what to say.”
Sole shrugs. “Then don’t say anything. I’m still not sure how I feel about it myself.”
“This is a good thing, right?” He looks to them for some explanation. “Right?”
“It’s too early to say, yet.”
“’Too early to say’? It’s a courser uprising for crying out loud. Forget what I said. This is bad.”
“Could turn out to be good, though.”
“Okay, it could, but...” he shakes his head. “What the heck. You’re right. We’ll see.”
Still, it’s a messed-up way to go. The only thing worse than being killed by a courser, he imagines, is being killed by a courser dressed up as a holiday elf.
Nick: He blinks slowly, purses his lips, then carefully folds his newspaper and puts it to the side.
“I beg your pardon?”
“I know. Crazy, huh?” Sole pops the cap off a Nuka-Cola and takes a seat on his desk. “All it took was a Christmas party.”
“I gotta say, this wasn’t among the ways I thought the Institute would go. Up in a firey ball, sure, but at the hands of killing machines dressed as Santa’s elves?”
“That’s what makes it so great! No one saw this coming, the Institute least of all, I assume. Can you imagine the mess that must be happening at Boston Airport right now? The Brotherhood is shitting their pants as we speak.”
He just shakes his head. “We can close that case, I guess. I’m not sure if I should be happy for them or horrified at the circumstances. Still, we should be careful; it’ll be hard to know what a change in leadership means for us.”
“Sure, sure.”
“I’ll give ‘em credit for creativity, though.”
Piper: This is the best thing to happen all year.
For once, papers are flying off the shelves. She’s selling copies right off the press, selling them before they’re even printed. She’s on backorder for the story of the festive courser rebellion, which she’d heard all the details about from a Diamond City guard wearing suspiciously Deacon-like sunglasses. But forget him.
People have traveled to get here and get their hands on the Publick. There’s someone from Bunker Hill sitting next to someone from Cambridge next to someone who said they came from the Glowing Sea, of all places. The caps she’s making is more than she could have ever imagined, and she’s glad she faced sleep deprivation to make this one a Publick Occurrences exclusive. It’s been well worth it so far. Nat doesn’t even have to stand on the street to hawk the paper, people are coming right up to her door and knocking, no joke.
She knew the war would be profitable, but it’s made even better by the way it all went down. A holiday party gone wrong is the perfect headline, and if she could find a courser, she’d kiss them for their genius. Because this is the best thing to happen to her since she not-so-subtly implied McDonough was a synth.
Bless the coursers of the Institute for their impeccable sense of style.
Preston: “I have to say, I didn’t expect to be crossing ‘take care of the Institute’ off of my to-do list so quickly.”
Sole cocks their head to the side. “I mean, it’s not gone yet. Just... under new management.”
“New management, new threat in my opinion. You can’t really believe everything is going to stay the same after this. The Institute is going to change in at least a couple of ways.”
“Fair.” They lean up against the workbench. “Kinda crazy how it all went down, though.”
He chuckles. “I’d call that an understatement, General. No one could’ve seen this one coming. Trigger-happy Brotherhood goes on the warpath? I thought we might see that one, but blowing up from the inside?” He shakes his head. “That’s a new one.”
“They kinda had it coming, though. Who thought making killing machines play Barbie was a good idea?”
“Someone who came to regret it, no doubt.”

Know It All: An Xmen Evolution Fanfiction  Chapter 6
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Title: Know It All
Chapter 6
Nightcrawler fanfic (I do not own the X-men or the gifs).
Violet Ashbourne is a gifted human hacker in possession of a radio, a secret device that gains her access to a large underground information network and electronics all over the world. Human and mutant coexistence has always been her goal, but will the betrayal of her mutant mother and father- once partners to her rise to power- distort her beliefs? Will the X-men be able to save her from her own pride and ambition? Or will she sacrifice everything, including the only boy she’s ever trusted, for vengeance?
We sit silently in the car as we drive away. I engage the security setting of the mansion again from my phone once we are far enough so as not to raise alarm. "You sure you don't want to do this tomorrow?" Bronco asks as he drives. I look at the neon numbers on the radio. 3:28 a.m. "No," I state. "Thank you for coming so soon," I say quieter. "Anytime, Boss. Plus, not like I was doing much, just trying to fix the weather controls in Sanctuary while Nisha follows up on a lead." his Russian accent grows deeper at the end of each sentence.
"Yes, she told me about going back to London to follow up on witnesses of the shooting."
The conversation dies.
The city starts to morph into landscape, crooked trees with leaves scraping against each other and the low mummers of wildlife. I look back at the clock. 3:54 a.m. Is someone in my room? Have they noticed I'm gone? I inhale deeply and hold it in my chest. The cold air from the crack in the window tingles my skin, making me rub them violently. "Go a little faster," I demand. Bronco does not protest and the car's sudden exhilaration wacks my hair on the headrest.
"You sure this isn't a trap?" Bronco asks, fidgeting with the steering wheel.
"Of course it is."
"Then why go?"
I growl, "Becuase I want to see her."
The car slows to a stop and we both exit, the cold air sending tears to line our eyes. The road is empty and the car's headlights are the only thing keeping us from going as blind as the bats above us. "This is the place you picked?" Bronco asks reading the stone sign.
"You should know, I always have a failsafe."
We walk into the cemetery, lunging over dead flowers and tombstones. I take a look around seeing dozens of graves surrounding us, soft soil destroying our shoes. I keep a distance from Bronco just in case he needs his powers.
A rustling comes from ahead of us and two figures stand, shrowding the third. "Darling." She says in awe, pushing the bodyguards apart. Her auburn hair is darker in this light, or maybe she darkened it herself. I couldn't tell whether the wrinkles around her eyes and mouth were new or if she had had them earlier. She wore a pantsuit, lined with yellow and orange trim, her cuffs lined with silver like aluminum foil.
"Mother," I hum, "How longs it been? Two years, going on three?"
"You mustn't think I don't hear the sarcasm in your voice."
"At least you can recognize one thing about me."
"I did not call this meeting so you could scrutinize me for taking over the Platform and managing our armies."
"Your armies." I corrected. I wanted nothing to do with my father's proposal of opening up the Platform, an entire city dedicated to his private troops and war machines. My mother took that position for power and it cost her more than two years of my life. I sigh and fold my arms, "So why did you call this meeting?"
"Your father is worried, Darling."
"MY FATHER!-" I stopped and rolled my shoulders, "My father... opened fire on me and left me to rot in a jail interrogation room."
"He thought you betrayed him when that bullet hit him. He didn't know that the bands were put on against your will. Considering your argument before the events occurred can you blame him for thinking that?"
"So his initial reaction is to order the death of his only child?! Are you honestly content with that?!"
She is silent, the darkness making it hard to read her, "Your father knows best."
Four words I know all too well.
She steps closer, "We know you are will the Xmen and cannot openly go against them, but know this: they cannot help you."
"And you can?"
"We can find Moriarty, get those things off of you and back to Purgatory. We just want you home."
On instinct, I remember the event before I was kidnaped by Moriarty. My father went mad, demanding my radio be handed to him, then I think of what Xavier said. If the band's technology were to fall into the wrong hands...
My father definitely classifies as 'wrong hands.'
I take a step back, "The Xmen are onto something. I think I'll take my chances."
Bronco and I jump as a loud beeping comes from behind my mother and the back of a truck destroys the bushes. The metal shutter shoots up and I look into the darkness at the holding cell within.
"Unless... this isn't a request." I frown.
My mother's face is unchanged, "get into the van, Violet." she demands calmly as her hands clench, a frothy flame igniting her forearms.
I sigh without a second thought, "Bronco,"
He straightens his posture, "Boss?"
"Wake them up."
He nods, walking in front of my mother and bodyguards who are ready to light Bronco up in a flame or bullets. I take a few steps back and watch as Broncos eyes roll to the back of his head, his arms rising from the force of his power.
Patches of dirt and wet grass fly between us as hands claw out of the ground, the inhabitants of the cemetery stumble together like vermin. The walking dead groan violently as the launch themselves at my mother's forces. The smell makes me gag and the deformed humans limp passed Bronco and I. Bronco signals me to run the opposite way, maintaining distance as we bump into more undead. I turn and see my mother's flames burn through them effortlessly as we escape.
I remember her once, promising me something: 'I'll never use my powers against you, Darling.'
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Bronco stops a few blocks away from the Xmansion, careful about making eye contact with me.
"You don't have to say anything," I say, reassuring that he is not entitled to make me feel better. "They've made their side clear. Perhaps when these things are off, they will just want me for a hacker, not a death tool." At this point, I am mostly speaking to myself.
"You sure that you want to stay with the Xmen?" Bronco asks.
"At this point, they are my only option."
"Keep us updated, Boss." Bronco grabs my hand, "We worry about you."
I smile weakly and get out of the car. He drives away as I head towards the mansion.
The sunrise comes slowly as I reach the gates. Pulling out my phone to disable the alarms my neck scrunches back. The alarms are active. I open the gate quickly and see the turrents blown to pieces. There are nets scattered and small lawn fires puffing like violent candles. "No." I gasp shoving the main door open. "Kurt?!" I yell, "Xavier?!" I run farther into the mansion scoping the rooms with toppled furniture, broken glass, and wood scattered along the stairs. "ANYONE?!"
The sub-basement is empty. My monitors are shattered, but one is still active. I search through last nights footage and see the students sleeping normally until several giant orbs burst through all directs of the walls and collect them all. My hand barely touches my face as I gasp. It couldn't be my father. It was too soon.
There has to be a way to find them! I tap along my keyboard to find a signal, something the orbs could have released into a frequency. I look closer at one of the orbs in the video. "Complete metal?" My eyes widen and I run to Xavier's study.
"Telepathy can't be the only way to locate you," I mutter to myself as I tap into Ciribro's database. "If you link your head to this it should be able to find you like..."
PING
"A beacon! Xavier your giant head just saved your life." I send the coordinates Ciribro gives me to my phone and rush to the garage.
Most of the cars had been totaled except Scott's sports car.
I zoom out of the mansion, checking my mirrors and follow my GPS, hoping- praying- that it anyone but my father who took them.

More Uncle Gage Modern AU content literally no one asked for so I feel it’s my duty to provide regardless:
Gage is an ex-con that went for prison for the murder of his previous “business” partner and associate Colter, but was released after few years due to Colter’s body never being found (because he is not dead and Gage didn’t kill him though he thinks he did)
He moves to the nice suburban neighborhood cause there is a house there that belonged to some relative of his and he has nowhere to go and no job since no one would hire an ex-con whose face was all over the news for a brutal murder.
He drives some car model thats like the the ‘67 impala or a camaro or I don’t know jack shit about cars but you get the idea.
There is actually a plot in my story and that’s that the housewives of the suburbia, lead by lawyer and district attorney Victoria want Gage booted out of the neighborhood because of his past and because they deem him dangerous to be around children and a bad influence.
Gage doesn’t even try to fit in the suburbia as he never mows his lawn, never picks up the newspaper, hasn’t said a single nice word to any of the neighbors and is almost never home however he doesn’t want to lose the house because he will have nowhere to go if he does and no one wants to buy it from him. Not to mention sometimes shady people come around his house.
The housewife PTA council of the neighborhood give him one week to either move out himself or Victoria threatens to put him back in prison. Tracie tries to get him to be a better person in a week and convince them otherwise so he can keep his house and stay a bit longer.
Tracie is the only person that isn’t bothered by him and doesn’t believe he really murdered Colter so she tries her best to befriend him and doesn’t like that everyone else in the neighborhood hates him. And eventually he starts to like her cause she is nice to him even if she is an annoyance, she treats him like a person which he can’t say about anyone else around ever since before he went to prison.
He listens to rock on tapes in his car and Tracie managed to break and lose few of them.
He drives Tracie from her work at a local diner to home and from her college to home whenever he can. Usually it’s a nice ride but occasionally he has to stop by an abandoned parking lot and do some shady deal (that usually involves shooting and fighting) or they have someone shoot at the car but Tracie is somehow always unharmed in these situations and after a while gets used to them.
After he settles in the suburbs permanently and has some of the neighbors like him, he adopts few pet reptiles and spends most of his time taking care of them.
He doesn’t work anything legal and usually does credit card fraud. He was almost arrested on several occasions too but it doesn’t stop him.
He has a personal policy of not selling drugs to kids, but that doesn’t stop him from passing oregano for weed.
Tracie always tries to find him a boyfriend by opening him a Grindr account and trying to present him in the best light possible. She also runs a Youtube channel for him where he tells people about proper reptile care. Usually that involves vague threats of violence against reptile owners that neglect their pets or keep them in less than minimal conditions.
Gage helps Tracie practice for her baseball tournaments and in the process encourages as much destruction of public and private property as possible.
Mason, Nisha and Mags are his like ex-associates that tried to quit the life of crime and are now working in a local amusement park for the time being. Mason is still a furry. Nisha most definitely murdered her ex-husband with a knife and no one has any evidence against her. Mags is actually rich but she has most of her money cut because of the shit she did so she tries to stop being a criminal in the eyes of her rich mom that is also running for office, however she can’t because the three of them still do shady deals with Gage as much as they hate him.

Shirley and Jason’s Wine Country Wedding
A stunning warm-hued palette with punchy coral accents shines in Shirley and Jason’s wine country wedding at Cornerstone. No detail was left untouched in the event design by Going Lovely—from the round calligraphy signage Blush Type Design, to the custom wedding crest, to the oversized escort card easel to Twigss Floral Studio‘s incredibly romantic arrangements and accents oat every turn. Fresh, joyful casual elegance radiates throughout the garden ceremony followed by the lantern-lines, round white tent reception. Lucky for us,Lori Paladino Photography was on hand to capture all of smiles and special moments of Shirley and Jason’s big day!
What made the wedding special and unique?
Jason and I LOVE going out to eat and trying new restaurants, so having really good food at our wedding was a big priority for us. We loved our caterer, Sage Catering. They helped us come up with a customized farm to table style menu, which featured many of our favorite foods such as an heirloom tomato and burrata salad, herb crusted hanger steak, pan roasted sea bass, and Bellwether ricotta ravioli.
We also had Hog Island Oyster Co. shuck fresh oysters for our guests during cocktail hour. It was a huge hit and I think that our guests really loved that we didn’t have a typical wedding menu.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
I found my Vera Wang Nisha gown at Glamour Closet in San Francisco. They sell designer samples off the rack, and had a great selection in my size and within my budget.
One of my best friends picked this dress out for me to try on. I had my reservations because it was mermaid cut, strapless, and ivory — I had always pictured myself in a white A-line dress with sleeves — but I was quickly reminded that you don’t always know what you want. It was important to me that my dress fit my personality, and I loved that the front was classic and conservative, while the back — with big bows, tulle, and silk flower details — was unique and fun!
Having a good friend with me who knew my personality and style, who would give me her honest opinion, and who pushed me to take a few risks was so important, especially since this was the first place I went to and I bought my dress that same day!
What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?
We recently added our puppy, Kingston to our family and one of our ceremony readers recited a passage titled “How Falling In Love Is Like Owning A Dog” by Taylor Mali. It was fun hearing our guests laugh along with us because it really was so relatable!
We love wine, so we knew we wanted to get married in wine country.  For our table numbers, our planner collected wine corks over the course of several months and used them to display our table numbers in brass candlestick holders. I thought that was a fun and pretty way to incorporate our love of wine.
I loved the custom watercolor crest our wedding planner had designed for us. It was incorporated in our invitations, day of signage and stationery, and she even got us customized corn hole boards for the cocktail hour lawn games that we took home as a keepsake and for future entertaining!
What was the most memorable part of the day?
Jason and I hadn’t really talked about our vows before the actual ceremony, so hearing his made me tear up. Wedding planning did not bring the best out of either of us (even though we had a great planner!), so it was special to me that both of our vows described why we love one another and that we both love our differences more than anything else.
Seeing all of our friends and family in one place was also so special! It was very surreal, as a lot of memories would come to mind with each familiar face I saw. More than anything, our wedding reminded me how lucky Jason and I are — we have so many great people in our lives, more now than ever as we’ve combined our makeshift families.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
In true Silicon Valley fashion, Jason and I met online through an app that connects you via mutual friends! We hit it off on our first date, and soon after we were exploring new restaurants, discussing pop culture, traveling, and meeting one another’s friends and family.
Jason proposed in Shanghai during our trip across China. It was very special because he’d arranged for both sets of our parents to be there with us to celebrate before we headed off to Beijing as an engaged couple!

Seven Minutes in Heaven (The Lying Game #6)(6) Author: Sara Shepard
“I still can’t believe people think she did this on purpose,” Madeline said, her hazel eyes wide. She shook her head. “She was fine on Sunday, right?”
Sunday had been the night they’d orchestrated a fake séance to prank a girl named Celeste Echols. It had been the first Lying Game prank Nisha had ever participated in—though she’d been the victim of a few in her time. She’d definitely seemed to enjoy being a part of the production.
“I know. It just doesn’t make any sense. She’s such a good swimmer,” Laurel whispered tearfully. “I mean, she was.”
“What do you think, Sutton?” Gabby asked. Emma looked up sharply. As always, the Twitter Twins’ wardrobes were in perfect contrast. Gabby wore a simple sheath dress and pearl studs in her ears, her lipstick a carefully lined red. Lili, on the other hand, wore what looked like a black thrift-store tutu and a pair of knee-high combat boots, a small veil pinned into her hair.
“Yeah, it seemed like you guys were getting close lately. Did she seem sad?” Lili asked.
“Does it really matter?” Emma said, her voice breaking. “She’s gone. The ‘why’ doesn’t change that.”
The girls fell silent. Across the lawn, Emma watched as the funeral officiant leaned over to talk to Dr. Banerjee, who hadn’t moved from his seat, a faraway look on his face. Emma had seen the doctor several weeks before, when he had treated her mother. He’d... Continuous reading: Read Seven Minutes in Heaven (The Lying Game #6)(6) online free by Sara Shepard
