Happy Storyteller Saturday! How do your OCs handle storms? Do any of them have any embarrassing fears?

Hey, thanks for your ask! I appreciate it.

So, I’m writing CktU at the moment and one of the main characters is Marek, who is a former war reporter who was injured at a battle and lost one of his legs. He used to love storms, because they always used to calm him down and he thought there was nothing better than reading a book or watching tv while there was a storm outside. But since said battle, Marek suffers from major ptsd and one of his triggers are loud, sudden noises. So naturally he’s terrified of storms now and doesn’t handle them that well, but he’s working on it.

Embarrassing fears is kind of a difficult questions. The first character that comes to mind is Nik, who’s highly afraid of toasters, since he almost caught fire using it once, but he is not embarrassed by anything, so I’m not sure it counts.

CHARACTER NAME: katia kjar. AGE: one hundred and eight. APPEARANCE: katia has since cut her locks and her hair now falls just past her shoulders, and has now taken on a wave of it’s own. other than that she doesn’t do much to her hair. over the year, she has gotten a number of tattoos such as: x, x, x, x, x. with her growing confidence, she has changed her style of clothing a bit. you can find katia drowning in the aesthetic of a girl living in the south of italy in the early thirties or wearing a pair of ripped jeans, a graphic tshirt and a pleather jacket. there’s really no inbetween. PLACE OF RESIDENCE: sold her place, moved deep into the woods with yuri where they built their own cottage-like hideaway. ROOMATES: yuri sokolov, partner. OCCUPATION: doctor administrator, painter/artist, bounty hunter??. KEY RELATIONSHIPS: - yuri sokolov: boyfriend. best friend. she would have never thought that when she first met yuri and started a friendship with him that would lead to the point where they’re at now. she loves what they were and absolutly adores what they’ve become, and she’s excited to see where they will go in the future. but right now, they’re still learning about each other day by day, opening up and being vulnerable and katia believe they couldn’t be luckier. - odette lockhart: close friend. odette is a woman that katia knows she will always be able to confin in. not just because she’s a therapist, but because she’s a good person and has one of the biggest hearts katia has ever had the pleasure of knowing. - naomi clover: close friend. knowing that naomi clover is in her corner no matter what will always help katia through life. katia cherishes her friendship with naomi greatly. - james proctor: friend. his sarcasm never fails to make her laugh. - andre marek: katia’s oldest friend. he was once her guard in the fae realm. she has always seen him as family, like a little brother. - nikolai sokolov: rough start to their relationship, but it has smoothned out over the year. katia is much more comfortable around nikolai, and even has fun teasing him here and there. nik has helped katia hone her wolf abilities. - lukyan sokolov: friend, waffle buddies. luke can be a bit of a dick, but he’s rational. or, as rational as a sokolov family member comes. - avery frost: avery might be one of katia’s youngest friends, but the young woman is mature and they share a lot of the same values in life. katia enjoys having conversations with avery. - emira birsen: mentor. emira has helped katia sharpen her wolf abilities, and abilities in general. emira is a bit of a bad influence, but katia likes being around her. katia thinks she’s funny. it might have to do with the fact that they both have the same high energy. - faolan meadowes: old friend, uncle by marriage. his stories are nice to listen to. his presence alone is comforting to katia. faolan reminds katia of the nicer times she’s spent in the fae world and in this world combined. she loves him and looks up to him. SIGNIFICANT EVENTS AND/OR DELOPVMENT: early june 2019: began being mentored by emira birsen while also hunting tracking down anyone yuri had been associated with during his time with his drug habits. mid-june: 2019: yasemin asli signed off on land that she and yuri could live at. june - july 2019: began putting in the time and effort to building the cabin, the couple finished the cabin later in july. august - september 2019: katia decides to get back into painting and designs a decent seized shed for her artisty habits. beside the shed, katia also starts her lavender garden. brings both of her art peices and lavender to the farmers market to sell. october 2019 - to present: other than training with her usual people (emira, nikolai, marek, lukyan and yuri), katia signs up at gwendolyn wade’s gym. december 19th, 2019: turns 108. didn’t realize it was her birthday until yuri gave her her favourite (lemon and strawberry) cake that evening. january 2020 - july 2020: continues her life as regularly as possible such as working at the hospital. every now and then she feels herself straying from the hospital and wanting to do something else, but she isn’t she what that is yet.

Yuri ran all throughout Lethe, following the trail of Anastasiya’s scent—only to end up at a dead end. She escaped once again and unscathed too. It would have definitely made a difference if any of them laid a hand on her. Just the thought of her bleeding would satisfy the youngest Sokolov as it was glimmer of hope that she could eventually reach death. Deep in the forest, Yuri ran for what seemed like hours as a means to calm down. He didn’t want to change, in fact he wanted to destroy everything in his way and as much as he would like to cause harm onto others, he refused to take it out on innocent bystanders. Therefore, he opted to stay within nature and unleash all his energy there. 

Coming to a halt, the werewolf howled into the night before running off in the direction of his home. There was so much in his mind that he didn’t know where to begin. Should he try finding Nikolai? Should he go to the hospital and check on Katia and Marek? Should he drop everything and focus on killing Anastasiya? Each outcome he thought of led to him believing he was a failure. He wouldn’t know where Nikolai was as he allowed the wolf to be freely malicious and rabid. Katia and Marek were hurt because of him and let’s face it—as if he was going to find his Aunt. He wasn’t a true Sokolov. He was always behind, not skillful enough, not fast enough, and simply, never good enough. 

Breaking through the window of his apartment, the werewolf whimpered as he treaded to his room and shifted back into his human form. Yuri was covered in blood, sweat and tears as he broke down, laying on the floor, curled up in a fetal position. He was exhausted, emotionally drained, yet the anger still lingered as he was mostly disappointed in himself.

Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath and laid there for an hour, before finally getting up and changing into a shirt, sweater and track pants. Searching for his phone, he scrolled through his contacts and made a quick phone call to an old friend. “Yo, do you still have any of my stash left?” It was too early to go to the hospital and his gut tells him that his brother was capable of finding his way. Should Nik not turn up the day after, then that’s when he should be worried. As of now, Yuri decided to let go and return back to his old ways. It was selfish of him, but it was what kept him sane and away from the thought of having to physically hurt, let alone end himself because he deserved it. 

“Alright, I’ll meet you in fifteen. Same spot. I’m good, I’m good. Don’t worry about me, that was one fuck up and it won’t happen again. Besides, even if I do die, it won’t get tied to you man. Everyone knows I’m junkie.”

Fake it till you make it right? He’ll just have to pretend that he was okay. It should be easy now that he was aware of what he needed to do. Go to Odette for therapy, always check in with Teyla, be himself around Naomi and this time, stick with Katia as she was now a werewolf. Tease his brother like he did in the gala for finally having a crush and then bond over killing their aunt. His game plan had to be full proof and so he planned to take the drugs at a moderate pace in order to not give himself up completely. 

It should work.

He was going to make it work. He was determined in satisfying his cravings. It was easier this way. 

“My birthday’s soon man, cut me some slack. Last deal and I’ll find another plug...Okay mate?...Alright my man! Now that’s what I’m talking about! Yeah definitely, see ya.” He hung up and grabbed a couple of bills before heading out the door. One hit should do it and he should be fine for the rest of the night. Once he get’s a good night’s rest, he’ll check on the Katia, her guard and his brother and go from there. 

They say old habits die hard and Yuri Sokolov was proof of that.

2020 Creators’ Reserve Recipients

W Gdyni powstał Klaster „Grupa Bezpieczny Bałtyk”

W Krajowym Planie Zarządzania Kryzysowego szacuje się, że uwolnienie jednej szóstej środków chemicznych, zalegających na dnie Bałtyku od zakończenia II Wojny Światowej, mogłoby całkowicie zniszczyć życie w tym akwenie na około 100 lat. Utworzony 7 lutego w Gdyni Klaster „Grupa Bezpieczny Bałtyk” ma wspierać rozwój innowacyjnych rozwiązań na rzecz ekologii Morza Bałtyckiego. To oddolna inicjatywa firm związanych z branżą offshore. 

Podczas panelu naukowców, zorganizowanego w delegaturze NIK w Gdańsku w kwietniu 2019 r. podkreślano fakt, że na dnie Bałtyku zidentyfikowano około 300 wraków okrętów, z czego około stu znajduje się w Zatoce Gdańskiej. Blisko 75 lat po zakończeniu działań wojennych kadłuby tych statków są w bardzo złym stanie – z jednych już wydobywa się paliwo, kadłuby innych na skutek korozji mogą się rozpaść wywołując ogromną katastrofę ekologiczną o trudnym do określenia zasięgu i skutkach. Najgroźniejsze z nich to zatopiony na redzie Gdyni „Stuttgart” (wyciekające z niego paliwo spowodowało, zgodnie z szacunkami ekspertów, przekroczenia dopuszczalnych stężeń związków niebezpiecznych dla środowiska Zatoki Puckiej o kilka tysięcy procent) oraz „Franken”, zatopiony w kwietniu 1945 r. w pobliżu Helu, w zbiornikach którego może znajdować się 1,5 miliona litrów mazutu i innych paliw.

W rejonie Głębi Gdańskiej spoczywa też na dnie kilkadziesiąt ton amunicji i bojowych środków trujących (BST), w tym bardzo groźny iperyt siarkowy (według różnych szacunków – od 50 do 100 tys. ton). Zatapiano je głównie na obszarze Głębi Gotlandzkiej i Głębi Bornholmskiej. Dla naszego kraju najgroźniejsze są pozostałości po wojnie, zalegające dno Głębi Gdańskiej.

- Biorąc pod uwagę wielkość niektórych wraków oraz ich stan techniczny, który po 75 latach od zakończenia II Wojny Światowej uległ znacznemu pogorszeniu, możemy spodziewać się scenariuszy katastroficznych, które mogą doprowadzić do poważnego skażenia wód mirskich - przestrzega Marek Reszko z Morskiej Służby Poszukiwania i Ratownictwa (SAR) w filmie pt. „Bałtyk: jeden dla wszystkich”, przygotowanym przez Fundację MARE. 

Już kilka razy doszło w naszym kraju do incydentów wywołanych tymi niebezpiecznymi środkami. Na przykład w 1955 r. 102 przebywających w Darłówku na koloniach letnich dzieci, które bawiły się w pobliżu odnalezionego przerdzewiałego pojemnika wyrzuconego na brzeg przez morze, poparzonych zostało iperytem. Czworo z nich straciło wzrok. W 1997 r. ośmiu rybaków zostało poważnie poparzonych w rejonie Władysławowa po znalezieniu w sieci bomby iperytowej. W 2012 r. na plaży między Ustką a Łebą znaleziono grudki fosforu białego. Skażeniu uległo 13 km wybrzeża.

Rozwiązanie tego problemu wymaga natychmiastowego podjęcia międzynarodowej współpracy - żaden z krajów nadbałtyckich nie jest w stanie rozwiązać go samodzielnie, biorąc pod uwagę stopień skomplikowania tej spraw zarówno od strony technicznej jak i formalno-prawnej. O finansowaniu tej współpracy nie wspominając.

- Niezbędna jest współpraca międzynarodowych ekspertów i instytucji -powiedział Matt Skelhorn z Salvage and Marine Operations SALMO (zespół ratownictwa i operacji morskich brytyjskiego Ministerstwa Obrony) - Nad wrakiem HMS Royal Oak pracujemy już blisko dwadzieścia lat. Aby w pełni ocenić stan wraku trzeba mieć pełną wiedzę o tym, co się z nim stało, o okolicznościach jego zatonięcia, liczbie ludzi, którzy na nim zginęli - trzeba brać pod uwagę, że wraki to często miejsce spoczynku wielu marynarzy. Trzeba wiedzieć, ile w kadłubie jest ropy, ile wyciekło od czasu zatonięcia i w jakim stanie wrak jest obecnie. Dopiero mając tę wiedzę jesteśmy w stanie zaplanować interwencję i być pewnym, że wydobędziemy z dna całe zalegające tam paliwo bez szkód dla środowiska naturalnego.

W grudniu 2019 r. radio RMF FM poinformowało o piśmie wysłanym przez prezesa Mariana Banasia do premiera Mateusza Morawieckiego, zwracającym m.in. uwagę na całkowitą bierność polskiego rządu w sprawie zalegających dno Bałtyku paliw i broni chemicznej. Powołany kilka dni temu w Gdyni Klaster „Grupa Bezpieczny Bałtyk” chce aktywnie włączyć się w działania, mające na celu zneutralizowanie groźnego spadku po II Wojnie Światowej. Liderem klastra jest Grupa GeoFusion Sp. z o.o., prowadząca sztandarowy projekt polegający na opracowaniu unikalnej w skali świata innowacyjnej technologii lokalizacji, wydobycia i unieszkodliwiania zatopionych BST, z wykorzystaniem moblinej instalacji pływającej. BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - Two ex-Hartford Wolf Pack players lead the Utica Comets to a 4-0 shutout victory over their former team before an announced crowd of 3,980 at the XL Center on Saturday night. Tom Pyatt paced the win with a goal and an assist ex-Pack goalie Marek Mazanec recording his first shutout of the season in his eighth game for Utica. It was also the fourth time the Wolf Pack have been held scoreless this season and the Comets scored via even strength, powerplay, and a shorthanded goal. The Comets outplayed, a clearly youthful, professionally inexperienced Wolf Pack squad with half their forwards lacing their skates up with less than four games under their belt Saturday night at the XL Center. “We didn’t have the puck very much tonight. I think they had a majority of the play the first half of the game. Tough to play when you're down 3-0. We worked and got a better slice of the game in the third, but we weren’t able to play a 200-foot game most of the night,” remarked Pack head coach, Keith McCambridge. For Utica, the win snapped a four-game losing streak and was just their second win in eleven games. The win boosted their record to the .500 mark at 32-32-6-2 (72 points) and seventh place in the North Division. The Comets play in Providence against the Bruins tomorrow afternoon. The Wolf Pack record falls to 28-34-7-3 (65 points) for eighth place in the Atlantic division and have lost five-in-a-row with four games left in the season, one of which comes Sunday afternoon against the Binghamton Devils at 3 pm. The Comets were launching shots like a meteor shower throughout the first period in which they outshot the Wolf Pack, 17-8. Utica scored early. Ein Alpendorf im Ausnahmezustand. Hotels voller Raver, am Dorfplatz eine bombastische Open Air Bühne, Parkhaus und Sporthalle umfunktioniert zu Indoor-Stages für angesagte Acts der elektronischen Subkultur, bis hoch zum Gipfel auf 2000 Meter wird gefeiert: Das ist RAVE ON SNOW!

Seit 25 Jahren veranstalten die PARTYSANen diese einst noch recht münchnerische vorweihnachtliche Sause, ihr origineller Veranstaltername ist abgeleitet vom Münchner Magazin für Techno-Subkultur PARTYSAN. Als der PARTYSAN Ablegern in ganz Europa, sogar Bangkok, zum stärksten Medium der wachsenden Technoszene wird, registriert man auch woanders dieses allererste Technofestival, allen voran der TV-Sender VOX. Er füllt mit Live-Aufnahmen unter dem Motto Rave Around the World seine Sendepause.

Anders als heute, war ein elektronisches Festival damals kein Selbstläufer. Bei Zeitschriften ist es umgekehrt.

Gegründet wurden die PARTYSANen von Bob Shahrestani und Thomas Kleutgen. Beide sind bis heute die Macher hinter Rave On Snow. Auf dem Münchner Alabamagelände, nach dem auch eine Jugendsendung des Bayrischen Rundfunks benannt wurde, entstand Anfang der 90er ein kleines, aber fast weltumspannendes Netzwerk: Der PARTYSAN.

Das Eventmagazin für die Techno-Kultur wuchs auf 20 Regionalausgaben, bis Bangkok, Liverpool, Sydney und Ibiza. Die Mitschnitte seiner Festivals Rave On Snow und Rave & Cruise  flimmerten jahrelang nach Mitternacht in Dauerschleife über deutsche Fernseher: Es sind die ersten Aftermovies der Welt, von den ersten Techno-Festivals der Welt!

Die Macher Bob Shahrestani und Thomas Kleutgen, sind es bis heute. Eine ziemliche Ausnahme bei Festivals, die von Megakonzernen wie CTS oder LiveNation reihenweise aufgekauft werden.

Gefunden haben sich Shahrestani und Kleutgen durch die gemeinsame Arbeit beim legendären Musik-Zirkus “Die Macht der Nacht”. Bob arbeitete dazu noch für Münchens erste wöchentliche Technoveranstaltung im Brennpunkt des damaligen Münchner Nachtlebens Schwabing – im nicht minder legendären BaBaLu. Gemeinsam starteten sie mit Techno & House Veranstaltungen – damals ein Novum in Bayern.

Zur Bewerbung ihrer Veranstaltungen gründen sie den PARTYSAN. Die witzige Wortschöpfung aus Underground(kämpfer) und Party ist selbsterklärend, zumal in Verbindung mit dem Maskottchen, der Parodie eines Ravers mit großen Pupillen und Vogelnest-Frisur. Das neuartige Pocketformat, spaßbetonte Inhalte und die unkonventionelle Gestaltung durch den heute in Los Angeles erfolgreichen Designer Marc Posch eroberte München im Sturm und prägt die Musikszene.

Bereits 1993 wagt sich das Team, das sich “Die PARTYSANen” nennt, an mehrtägige Raves, nicht ohne Risiko: “Festivals” sind da noch Sache der Musikindustrie und ihrer Rockfestivals. Aber die Münchner sind pragmatisch und verzichten auf das Wort Festival. So kündigen Flyer und PARTYSAN-Anzeigen das erste Techno-Musikfestival nur als Rave an: RAVE ON SNOW, 14.-16. Januar 1994, 210 D-Mark für Musik, Busfahrt ab München, Unterkunft, Frühstück.

“Wir haben viel rumgesponnen. Eine alte Burg führte zum Burgfrieden-Festival, ein Sonnenblumenfeld zum Sunflower-Festival. Beides ging in die Hose. Aus einer Connection zu einem Reisebüro entstand Rave’n’Cruise. Das zum Beispiel hatte Erfolg.”

60 Teilnehmer: Das erste Rave On Snow Festival ist kommerziell wenig erfolgreich. Aber befreundete DJ’s musizieren für lau, die angemietete Diskothek als Festivalstage war billig, und alle hatten ihren Spaß. Ob ein einzelnes Projekt ertragreich ist oder nicht, ist in diesen Zeiten der Subkultur nicht so wichtig, und so findet Rave On Snow 1995 wieder statt. Diesmal mit bedeutenderen Produzenten der elektronischen Clubmusik und immerhin 200 Gästen. Der Termin ist nun das Wochenende vor Weihnachten, wie bis heute.

Am Rande: Ebenfalls 1995 plant Marek Lieberberg ein Techno-Sommerfestival: “Rave am Ring”. Das Projekt scheitert, weil sich die elektronischen Künstler geschlossen gegen die Vereinnahmung durch “die Rocker” stellen (Nik Schär) – heute undenkbar. Das nächste elektronische Festival entsteht erst 1997 mit der NATURE ONE. Veranstalter Nik Schär verwendet zur Abgrenzung von den eintägigen Nature One Raves erstmals das Wort “Festival”.

1996 entwickelt Grafiker Marc Posch das Logo für die nächsten 9 Jahre: Das Maskottchen mit Snowboard. Und VOX bietet seine Sendepause nach Mitternacht an. Die PARTYSANen sagen zu, trotz überschauberer Vorjahreszahlen. Diesmal kommen filmreife 2.000 Gäste. Der VOX-Loop heißt RAVE AROUND THE WORLD.

1997 kommen 6.000 Gäste, 1998 gibts die erste Rave On Snow-Compilation, 2001 ist die Marke von 10.000 Partypeople erreicht, viel mehr geht bis heute nicht. Die Enge des Alpen-Sacktals und Vorschriften setzten die Grenze.

Bis 2008 gehört Rave On Snow zum PARTYSAN, erst 2009 wird es GmbH. Dem PARTYSAN als Zeitschrift geht es da schon nicht mehr so gut: Anfang der 2000er werden die meisten Regionalausgaben nach und nach eingestellt, 2014 verschwindet mit dem Berliner Magazin die letzte Redaktion. Die Website PARTYSAN.net ist seitdem die letzte Medienpräsenz der Marke die die Anfangsjahre von Techno mit begleitet hatte.

Shahrestani und Kleutgen, inzwischen Berliner, führen eine erfolgreiche Marketing- und Veranstaltungsagentur unter anderem als Partner der Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe BVG oder für den weltberühmten Techno-Club Kater Blau. Mit den Veranstaltungen Thaibreak, Berlin, Beats & Boats und zahlreichen anderen Events sind sie der Branche und auch der Szene treu geblieben.

Rave On Snow ist für beide eher Hobby als Job, wie früher.

“Wir waren in den 90ern unkommerzielle Idealisten und total auf Spaß fokussiert. Den hatten wir, und den haben wir heute noch.”

Von Donnerstag, 13. bis Sonntag, 16. Dezember, wird gefeiert, das 25. Jubiläum von RAVE ON SNOW.

Hayward Open Sunday Tee Times

On the first day of the Hayward Open, 9 holes of play was able to be completed due to weather constraints.  On Sunday, tomorrow, we are anticipating our regular Sunday format of 27 holes.  Tee times are below.  Championship and 1st Flight – Stroke play.  2nd through 15th – Match play.

A skins game today was holes 1 through 9.  Steve Gault won the lone skin of the day with a 3 on number 1.  Steve would like to thank his good friend Jim Colbert for not getting into the skins game and covering up the birdie with a birdie of his own!
