If Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) decides to run for reelection next year, she’ll do so without the help of the big-name Democratic ad makers and pollsters who helped her win her Senate seat in 2018, and without access to the voter database maintained by the Democratic Party.

NGP VAN, which manages Democratic voter data, is set to cut off Sinema’s access at the end of January, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. The ad makers who worked with her in 2018, Dixon/Davis Media Group, have split with her campaign. Two other Democratic sources said polling firm Impact Research made the same decision.

Both Dixon/Davis and Impact have the type of pedigree you would expect for firms that work with Senators in key races. Dixon/Davis worked on President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, while Impact Research does polling for President Joe Biden. Both firms made the decision before Sinema’s recent party switch.

A spokesperson for Sinema did not respond to an email seeking comment. A spokesperson for Bonterra Tech, the parent company of NGP VAN, declined to comment.

The decisions make Sinema’s road to reelection even steeper and more complicated. Polls of Arizona’s electorate show that her efforts to ingratiate herself with Republicans have mostly backfired electorally, alienating Democrats en masse without building up an equivalent base of independent or GOP voters. Two Democratic congressmen from the state, Reps. Ruben Gallego and Greg Stanton, are both looking at runs for the party’s nomination, and a three-way battle with a Republican candidate seems likely.

Sinema does not lack selling points: While her approach doomed huge segments of Biden’s agenda, including many of his proposed tax hikes on the wealthy and corporations, she also has played major roles in crafting popular bipartisan deals on same-sex marriage, gun control and infrastructure funding. Successfully selling those accomplishments to an electorate is where pollsters and ad makers come in.

It’s unclear where Sinema might turn to run a reelection campaign. She and her staff have avoided any talk of reelection, saying she has not yet made a decision about a 2024 run. But any Democrat who works with her is likely to face fierce pushback from progressives who argue Sinema’s actions have imperiled a key Senate seat.

“Sinema abandoned the Democratic Party because she knew she couldn’t win a primary after spending years obstructing popular reforms and alienating her own voters,” said Sacha Haworth, who served as communications director at the start of Sinema’s 2018 campaign and now works for a group aiming to defeat her. “She chose to forfeit the Democratic Party infrastructure, so it’s only right that no Democratic staffer, consultant or vendor should work with her.”

Losing access to the Democratic Party’s voter data is also likely to be a headache for Sinema, since it will make it more difficult to target voters for digital advertising, mailers and door-knocking.

Other Democrats who work with Sinema privately signaled to HuffPost they are waiting for signals from top national Democratic leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Biden, about how to handle the newly independent Senator.

Many D.C. Democrats would prefer to find a way to back Sinema for reelection — from a legislative perspective, it would make their lives far easier if they could rely on her to back Biden’s judicial selections and in forthcoming fights over funding and the debt limit — but fear she could be running third in a three-way battle, which would make it difficult to convince either Stanton or Gallego to stay out of the race.

NGP VAN, which was paid nearly $5,000 by Whitmer's campaign in 2019 and is working on her reelection campaign, said the Democratic firm would not appropriate the data it gleaned from Michigan residents.

"NGP VAN's CRM outreach software is used by a large number of nonprofits, governments, and corporations to manage their contacts with people,"  a spokesman for the company, Max Kamin-Cross, told the Free Beacon on Tuesday. "Each client owns their own data; we are not a data company. We are proud to be helping reduce the number of coronavirus deaths."

Though NGP VAN's software was being used by Great Lakes Community Engagement, Kamin-Cross said it never had a contract with the state of Michigan, though the press release explicitly stated that both groups were contracted.

"We were not contracted with the state of Michigan at any point," Kamin-Cross said. "Beyond that, we're unfortunately unable to provide details on specific clients."

Two massive Twitter threads contend that serious computer fraud two years ago in Texas, which turned strong red districts blue, was essentially a trial run for what's been playing out across America in this election.  This post summarizes the core claims in those threads, along with interlineations of information I found.

One Twitter thread comes from Roscoe B. Davis, the other from Bad Kitty.

Scytl is a Barcelona-based company that provides electronic voting systems worldwide, many of which have proven vulnerable to electronic manipulation.  Scytl has (or had) Soros and Democrat party connections.  Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's Vulcan Capital has invested $40 million in Scytl.

In Dallas County, Texas, a deep red county, there was a sudden, unexpected blue wave in 2018.  The computer logs revealed that ES&S technicians repeatedly overrode thousands of error codes for "time stamp mismatch" and "votes exceed ballots."  Essentially, they replaced votes.  Then ES&S ignored the requirement that the data be saved for 22 months and destroyed everything.

Investigators also found an Excel spreadsheet file with Scytl algorithms projecting voting results on the NGP Van website.  NGP Van does voter database and analytics for the DNC.  It also works closely with ActBlue and Shared Blue.

While the real data manipulation in Dallas occurred at the electronic level, it's worth noting that the election was also plagued by obstructing poll-watchers, flash memory cards that showed up with new votes, and shuffled computer logs, among other things.

The permanent exhibition presents the NGP’s most significant selection of Old Masters, combining the currently divided collections of Czech and so-called European art in a dialogue between time and space. It unfolds with the Renaissance and Mannerism artworks by Albrecht Durer, Jan Gossaert aka Mabuse, El Greco, Bartholomeus Spranger. The Baroque and Rococo gallery showcases monumental altarpieces, biblical scenes, and mythological events by Peter Paul Rubens, Antony van Dyck, Karel Škreta and Michael Leopold Willmann (...) The exhibition concludes with the thematic chapter: “What Is God? Man?”, presenting the solitaire canvases by Simon Vouet, Frans Hals, Michael W. Halbax, Joseph W. of Derby and Francisco Goya.

The NGP’s collection of prints and drawings (450 thousand including fragments and illuminated manuscripts) belongs to the top ten of the largest and most significant collections of prints in Europe from the Middle Ages to the present.

#thots on people stanning those who hold political office like they're celebrities? to follow up: how do you feel the obama 2008 campaign changed the mentality if at all, and was it due to social media or the candidate or both?

Like... okay, I’m actually really conflicted on this. Obviously, there are huge problems when we let celebrity and stan culture inform how we think about our candidates-- that’s how Trump was able to win the Republican nomination. It’s what made the 2016 Democratic primaries so hard on everyone, because the person you like was either losing or you were getting bombarded by people who liked the person who was losing.

On the other hand, I don’t think we should be choosing our candidates based on, like, spreadsheets that say X candidate is closer to their beliefs, because running for office is a job interview and basing your vote on that is choosing who to hire based on their resume alone. You can’t so much as win a student body election without embracing some level of celebrity, and I think that’s normal and healthy and worthy of celebration. The campaigns I’ve worked on over the years have been hard not because of the opposition (although they definitely didn’t help) but because of the hundreds of people I’d talk to every day who didn’t know about the election I wanted to talk to them about, and frequently didn’t want to learn. If leaning in to celebrity and lionization helps get people engaged, I’d say it’s less a question of getting it out of politics and more of balancing it against its clear dangers.

As for 2008... I might be out of step with people in saying this, but I wouldn’t really say it changed the celebrity equation THAT much, and I don’t think social media played into it anywhere near as much as people give it credit for. It definitely mattered, yes, but I’d say both 2012 and 2016 both have better claims as being the elections were social media REALLY mattered.

What I think was the most consequential change in 2008 was the introduction of microtargeting, and the ability to use tools like NGP VAN along with social media to reach voters where they were, to talk about the topics and issues that mattered to them. Obama’s campaign released a surprisingly sophisticated app in the last month of the election that not only directed activists to the nearest campaign events, but also had a rudimentary virtual phone bank that identified contacts in swing states so people could better activate their friends. All of this was done to greater effect in 2012, yes, but we can really see its genesis and its effect in 2008.
