Students of Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, celebrates Friendship Day with trees and plants
August has finally arrived and has brought along with it lots of festivals to celebrate. One of them, being the most exciting occasion, to be celebrated on the first Sunday of August. That’s the ‘Friendship Day’ celebrated over the nation with great enthusiasm. It is a day to celebrate togetherness beyond borders, love and purity, naughtiness against quarrels, the giving’s and receiving’s. Everyone has their unique way to celebrate friendship day. While most people celebrate their friendship by exchanging gifts or tying colorful bands on each other's wrists, the commerce faculty students of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda tied friendship bands to trees and plants. They celebrated the occasion with a unique touch as they made plants and trees their friends. This move was implemented to create awareness among the people to preserve nature.
The students said everyone should make efforts to help preserve nature and reduce the harmful impact of human activities on the environment because the future will either be green or not at all.
A student leader Gautam Nayak said, “We have celebrated Friendship Day with new students who have come in Maharaja Sayajirao University and we are happy to have passed a unique message. Friendship Day is a western culture, so today we have celebrated it in a different way by tying threads and bands to plants. We have also talked about issues related to global warming and rainfall. Also, to maintain the culture of India and promote new thinking, we are celebrating Friendship Day with plants.”
The students consider plants and trees as not only one of the sources to life but also as true friends to humans.
A student named Ruchika said, “Plants provides us oxygen and helps us to breathe and stay healthy. Greenery provides us a lot of things like books, oxygen, air, rain, shade. Everyone celebrates Friendship Day but does not celebrate it with plants considering they are our best friends.”
One should never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; as a matter of fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.
Do your part by joining Pagdand NGO. Be a part of this initiative for protecting environment.
