Monkey should just sit still on his shoulders and settle. He won't find a single bug here, it's too soon. Everything is so clean and fresh! Not a single thing out of place. Yet. Nezha won't even bother to tell Sun Wukong becauseー... Honestly he's so used to the close contact that he actually isn't as annoyed as he projected. It was fine. It was sign of friendship. Nezha rubbed his chin. Maybe it was time to leave bugs around just to keep things interesting. How much does a hundred ladybugs go for these days?

reposting and elaborating on the self indulgent lore for lmk!zha with my wife @oopsallprotagonists :

Nezha has been creating 'good will' by working/corresponding with Ao Bing to promote and improve the relationship between heaven and the East Sea Kingdom by their own volition. Unknown to either side (save for a select few), the pair are in a secret relationship.

It was a mortal wedding conducted by a human to avoid their fathers (canon buddies that they are) finding out. They married with only Taiyi Zhenren and cloud lad/little cloud as their witnesses.

They live together in an expensive apartment and rely greatly on Ao Bing's funds between the long gaps between Nezha's wages (jttw specifically has 1 day in heaven equalling a year on earth ). While they negotiated a quicker pay cycle for Nezha (in consideration for how frequent he traverses between the realms), there is little that can be done to avoid the time barriers of Heaven and Earth. Ao Bing who is on the East Sea Pay Roll is paid in a timely manner.

Ao Guang is only barely tolerating Nezha because Ao Bing has always been his favourite son. Nezha doesn't include General Li in anything if he can avoid it. There is more but maybe I'll add them later as they are spoilers to the thread I have going with Leigh for their reunion flash back, set years after the canonisation of the gods (where Ao Bing would be resurrected and deified among many others including Nezha) and journey to the west. (Again, the taiwanese 70's 'gay nezha' novel has heavy spirit and presence in all my iterations of Nezha).

From an outside perspective it might look like Nezha has guilt for his 'excessive use of violence' towards the dragons. Or some may speculate he is trapped by 'obligation' to serve for taking the life of the Third Dragon Prince, and is made to serve the dragons as a continued punishment (as if taking his own blood wasn't payment enough. But in truth and between Nezha and Ao Bing are making an earnest attempt to improve relations and live together in peace.

He doesn't have valid identification on Earth, only in Heaven. No passport, no photo ID, no drivers license, no birth certificate. (He has heavenly connections to 'forge' mortal documents if the need ever arises) Zha hasn't had a chance to apply for modern licenses, nor will he bother unless he's 'on leave'.

Most of Nezha's time is spent in the Heavenly Realms so by the time he comes back home from work something would have definitely expired. At present, everything Earthly in nature is left in Ao Bing's name, since he has permanent station and addressー plus he gets regular salary from the East Sea in a nice and timely manner.

👤🔀👤 OH NO LMKZHA WATCH OUT

At first it was disorientating. But not for long. Posession wasn't all that different from switching bodies altogether and for both he was experienced. Pure determination made him commit to the bit despite this being an INCREDIBLY bad idea, but Sun Wukong had a way of bring out both his best and worst qualities.

And now he was him. For a day at least. Because 'there was no way you could handle a day in my shoes!'.

All that burdened him had washed away after an hour. That's all it took for Nezha to let himself eat the fruits of Wukong's mountainー to get back into the good books of the kids who knew he had a different way of walking and talking... Then there was the grass beneath him, letting his worries fall away as he ran on two feet and then on all four. Leaping! Through canopy and over tree top! And while he never learnt all the seventy two transformations like some others in his ranks, delighted laughter left him as he launched himself through the air and 'flew'.

...Sun Wukong really had it so good.

Nezha sat in a crater of his own making. Not used to a life without limits, it was hard to know what to do with it. Nothing stopped him from accidental destruction, just as little would stop him from destruction on a mass scale. He touched 'his' neck, preoccupied by the lack of restriction, then leapt back into the dense tree tops.

If he had what the Great Sage had every day, who would he have been? It was one thing to curse the privilaged (he was blessed with plenty of his own as well) but as a fellow hungry soul, there was always a chance he would have taken the same roads. So wouldn't he have as well? Commit violence? Speak as if he was as great as the heavens that sat above the sky? With all that his hands were capable of? As if Nezha wasn't as spiteful or turbulent...

The temporary monkey king swung and hung upside down from a tree before spotting his body. He hurried over feeling somewhat guilty. After all, the speed at which he adapted and left his friend left no time to exchange words. And he left Wukong with only the laughter of an excitementー a madness that he'd bottled up and forgotten about for centuries past. And without so much as instructions on how to use his tools.

"... I was stupid."

He really felt like Wukong now.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have run off like that. Are you okay..?"

In the blur of motion, there was Chang'e. What followed through was the night in her hair and the faint smell of sweet vanillaー before they were sent skidding, rolling and rocketing through Chang'e's vegetable patch. The collision sent the world around him spinning– even after he'd stumbled up onto his feet. In the confusion however, he could make out the distinct shape of his spear.

In his hands he hurled with all his might, sending the weapon shooting like a star through the airー piercing the demon through the chest and pinning it deep through a fruit tree. It happened in a smooth thrust, and with a powerful yell, but ended with him clumsily collapsing back onto the cabbage littered ground. 

He’d always had frighteningly god-like aim. What he never possessed however, was the banshee like howling that erupted from his blue painted lips. Cool toned hair created a shroud over his shoulders as he hung his throbbing head.

   “Iー”

It hit him all at once. This wasn't him. He wasn't this. His voice wasn't the same. He was all wrong. Removed from his own skin he was not himself.

"I'm okay..."

He took a deep breath and quietened his mind. It wouldn't be the first time he's been passed from one body to another. He'd been displaced, moved around and morphed before. This was no different. To his misfortune, his transformation involved another. The ground steadied and he breathed out. He made himself fine through the power of sheer belief, letting fear of the unexpected come and go with each exhale.

"Careful. W-when you stand. Andー... And don't worry. I've got this."
