About this blog.
Tell NIA consults exists with the intention of boosting the voices of young disabled Australians, and helping them to take a more active role in advocating for positive change.
Who is NIA? NIA consults is the name I chose for my advocacy and consultation business when I began it in 2023. It stands for Neurodivergent Inclusion and Accessibility. It is also a Swahili name which means 'resolve' and 'brilliance', things I feel are abundant in the disability community.
Intention.
As a professional advocate for disabled youth, with a focus on autism due to my lived experience, I have the privilege of regular opportunities to speak with senior executives of the NDIA. I also sit on various consulting groups to the NDIA and other key bodies. In addition to this, I am studying a Bachelors degree in Disability and Developmental Education.
I would welcome any asks or submissions sharing stories about being a young disabled Australian, particularly relating to your experience of decision making and self determination.
I will take these stories to the mentioned groups, and offer advice on how you can also use them to advocate.
Resources.
In addition to story sharing through asks or submissions, on this blog you will be able to find template emails you can use as a beginning point to email local, state, or national political figures or bodies relating to various disability issues, findable below in navigation. Here you can also find petitions linked, posts shared, and other ways to learn about disability issues and action you can take from home.
there will also be tips on how to write emails or letters for advocacy, navigating self advocacy, and how to seek help if you require it.

fuck the ndia
no, seriously, these bastards are so incapable of admitting that they don't actually care about the Australian people that they want to blame people who don't follow their (self-admittedly) complicated instructions to the dot on the i's for "wasting money" by accruing aids that they actually need. they punish people by refusing to help people buy clothing accommodations, mobility aids, transport and then making them wait for replies. a kid died. a 19 year old on an ndis plan died in their home because the ndia didn't help, didn't give them the support that they needed to the point that the last thing the kid communicated to anyone was a text asking if the ndis responded to their request for 24 hr support.
Menstruation products are only available as a support if they are deliberately and specifically required by the disability, not if your period is affected by your disability, not if you have a particularly difficult menstrual cycle that is exacerbated by your disability, only if you have an issue that is specifically and evidentially caused by your disability.
They want thousands of dollars worth of reports that list each thing wrong with you and the way you live, they want several years worth of doctors visits and personal accounts and bank statements. All so someone that doesn't even have a medical degree can tell you that it's not cost effective. Can tell you that under rule 34 of the 2013 ndis act they can legally say, "sorry, you're not worth the money".
And then when you give them that truly unnecessary number of personal details and evidence they don't even look at it. They don't read the letters from the specialists. They ignore evidence and say that it doesn't matter that that recommendation came directly from a professional/specialist. They don't look at the receipts and testimonials and papers you've found and researched on your own time to prove that this aid will help, this prescription will help you live a better, calmer, happier life not marred by as much pain and suffering. A life that's living and not just surviving.
All because they don't care, because the government made some stupid decisions decades ago and every time they get an opportunity to change they dig themselves deeper and say don't worry about the inflation, don't worry about the cost of living, don't worry about how your body and your country are failing you.
People on a disability scheme like the ndis according Australian Institute of Health and Welfare are twice as likely if not more to commit suicide than the general population. Men who are disabled are more likely to commit suicide and more likely to consider it (doi: 10.1093/pubmed/fdy197).
They hire lawyers that call in soft voices to tell you that you need to resubmit years worth of evidence, that "that's not what the agency is for" when you ask for the recommended number of hours. And legal aid is no help, they want you to wait until you're booked until you ask them for help even when you've been told specifically to ask them for help. And because this is happening all over, the support workers and advocacy groups are overrun and overworked.
The ndia only cares if it will make them look good on paper. The ndia will tell the general population "look how much money we saved" while the disabled looks on in agony, while they are denied medication, support, aid, transportation, therapies and god knows what else.

Requesting an accessible NDIS meeting - sample email and advice
The NDIS website provides the following advice about Plan review meetings over the phone:
Before the phone meeting
Make sure you know when your phone appointment is, and who it will be with.
Find a quiet place to have the call where you can focus. Planning meetings can take over an hour depending on your situation.
Make sure you have your phone with you, it is charged, and you are in a space with good reception.
Have any reports or assessments with you. If possible, send them to your early childhood partner, LAC or NDIA Planner before the call.
If you want a friend, family member or someone to help you with the meeting, make sure they are available and make sure that only one person talks at a time.
During the phone meeting
It’s ok to ask the person doing your planning meeting to stop, repeat, or explain things. We understand that sometimes it’s harder to communicate over the phone.
We need to check we are speaking to the right person so will ask you proof of identity questions.
We will guide you through the planning process, but take notes and ask any questions you have along the way.
Make sure you know what the next steps are before ending the call.
After the phone meeting
If there is anything important that you didn’t let us know, you can email or call your early childhood partner, LAC or NDIA Planner on the number they gave you.
At the end of your planning conversation we'll talk about the next steps, including how your plan will be reviewed and how to start using the funding in your plan.
Here are my additional tips:
If, like me, you don't like unexpected phone calls, you can go into your NDIS portal and change your contact preferences to 'email only.'
If phone calls aren't accessible for you, you can ask for your meeting to be face-to-face in person, or face-to-face online. You can ask for a sign interpreter or a language interpreter. You can also ask for captions, or for a transcript of the conversation.
There is a bit in the NDIS Act (section 31) that says the Plan review needs to be individualised and led by the participant. If your Planner is not letting you lead the conversation, it's a good idea to remind them of this.
If the meeting is not going well - you don't feel listened to, or you don't think the Planner is acting in your best interests - you can stop the meeting at anytime. Make sure you do this respectfully and calmly! Just say "I want to participate in my Plan review, but I don't feel this meeting is going well. I'm requesting that we stop now and meet again at another time." You can also request a different Planner
Sample email
Just confirming my Planning meeting scheduled for 4pm Friday 13th October via Teams. I will have my mother -Lois Lane, and my Support Coordinator - Peter Parker with me for the meeting. I am autistic and use captions for online meetings, so could you please ensure this is organised so that the meeting is accessible for me. This will enable me to participate as fully as possible. Please also note that I will periodically turn my camera off when I need a break from face-to-face interaction.

Kabir Parmeshwar had gone to Satlok physically from Maghar.
Fragrant flowers were found at the place of his body, which as per the orders of God Kabir, both the religions took together and made a memorial in Maghar at a distance of 100 feet, which still exists today.
This is an example of mutual brotherhood and goodwill between the two religions, Hindus and Muslims.
Poor Birsingh Baghela, he has to collect electricity.
Two bedsheets have been bought, Dina, you are so brave.
