I'm all for letting people watch/enjoy what they want to watch/enjoy, so if you want to ship Gabi/Sir in 'Found', knock yourself out. I just can't get over the cheese of this show when it comes to them. I think Mark Paul Gosselaar playing the bad guy has a LOT to do with my disinterest and maybe if they'd gotten an unknown with a bit more chemistry and less scenery chewing, it might've caught my eye. But in the same way I felt with (the much better) 'Hannibal', it just gets to the point where I can only suspend my disbelief for so long. And the real problem (for me) is, season 1 is meant to be the foundation of the show on which following seasons are built. So when you miss that mark (for me), the rest of the seasons aren't going to mean much. (If I can't get invested in the main duo in season 1, it ain't gonna happen.) So, as I discovered in season 1, I'm really only interested in Margaret and Zeke. I don't know if there will be enough of them to fill for the time I'm rolling my eyes and cringing.

y'know, sometimes i can't get over how impulsively hannibal acted in mizumono like, baby girl, he called you to warn you the FBI knew!!! maybe wait two seconds before whipping out the knife and gutting the love of your life because maybe, just maybe, there's an explanation that isn't "will betrayed me, i must forgive him the way God forgives."

and then i remember.

hannibal didn't give a fuck about garret jacob hobbs when he called and said, "they know." he was just curious about what would happen. it was for his own amusement.

so of course when will calls and says the same exact words, hannibal doesn't see it as the genuine gesture will meant it to be. how could he? all he knows is that will lied to him about freddie, refused to run away with him and insisted on confronting jack, and is now calling hannibal to taunt him and see what he does. all of will's actions have been for his own amusement.

and oh boy, does hannibal put on a show. "you want to see what i'm capable of? fucking watch me."

Will woke up to find the other side of the bed empty. He rolled on his other side to look at the digital clock on the nightstand. It showed 4 am. He groaned audibly, got up and left the bedroom.

He followed the light coming from downstairs.

"Hannibal, what the fuck are you doing? You said you would come to bed. Four hours ago."

"I think I almost figured it out."

"You know what? I don't even care. Go to bed." Will said as he looked at the living room table in disbelief. His laptop and tablet were both turned on and behind them, papers, news paper scraps and photos were lying in a very tidied up mess.

"Come here." Hannibal said not even lifting his glance from the two screens.

"No. You come here. You can continue this tomorrow."

"It's too important. I got too involved to step back."

"Is this related to the FBI?" Will asked as for a second he considered the fact that they might have been followed or targeted.

"No."

Will hated the eliptic answers so he marched to the table and started lifting up random papers.

"What, what the fuck is wrong with you?" He asked as he scanned the contents. "Are you that bored that this is on your mind?"

"Will, I think I know what happened to Kate Middleton."

in all honesty I hope they don’t announce s4 of Hannibal, not because of any truly valid concerns, but because all the promotional material was absolutely atrocious and I’d hate to see it return

I really am a sucker for dual male lead media where they appear as complete opposites only to end up being eachothers foils and somehow also ending up being completely depended on eachother despite of (because of) their differences

during the last four days my aunt has somehow gotten me into telenovelas and can we be honest. hannibal is built like a telenovela (unhinged, violent, dramatic, the weirdest shit you’ve ever seen, etc)

rewatching nbc hannibal with my mum, and then hearing her opinion of it once we finished it made me realise how much you have to interpret this series as i think it was intended: as an archetypal Shakespearian problem play.

it combines the discussion of drama and very grave topics with bursts of humour and recurring intellectual bits, essentially fitting into a similar tragicomedy genre as several of Shakespeare's plays

and this dichotomy of theme is set up from the very first episode!! like the whiplash scene cut between the discussions of the murder committed by hobbs' copycat and hannibal having a ball cooking her lungs to swelling classical music establishes this blending of genre from the beginning of the series.

hannibal's one liners (sometimes even LOOKING DOWN THE BARREL OF THE CAMERA *cough*s3 when he killed that guy with an ice pick*cough*) also add to this uneasy sense of comedy, one that one is only able to interpret and appreciate once having accepted that the atrocities being committed are just a staple of this storyline and universe that, although are used to convey meaning in different ways, are not indicative of the tone of the series as a whole.

like in measure for measure, for example, the basic facts of the story are that claudio is going to be executed, unless his sister gives up her morality. this threat of death hangs over the whole play, and most of the themes discussed in it are dark and complex ruminations on justice, power, and authority- this would lead the reader to expect a tragedy or some sort of drama. however, this is interlaced with occasional bouts of bawdy humour to lighten the mood, not dissimilar to hannibal's rather self-incriminating cannibal jokes in the midst of investigating murders that HE COMMITTED.

i just find it really interesting how differently one sees the show if not being able to get past the barrier of its dark and dreary themes.
