🕸️,🍎, &🌊!
answering for my writer/fame dr
|| shifting ask game 🕸️; where will you be when you first wake up in your dr? what clothes will you be in?
very basic, i know, but i'll wake up in my room! i want to wake up somewhere where i am already comfortable in (especially since i mostly do sleep methods.). plus, i really want to wake up to my sweetheart princess of meow meow kitty kingdom mari໒꒰ྀི´ ˘ ` ꒱ྀིა i'm personally very obsessed in anything vintage and romanticizing my life in general/in every single universe being the drama queen that i amso i'll probably be wearing those pretty vintage slip-on night gowns/dresses
🍎; what are three songs that remind you of your dr and why?
● midnight city - m83 - this song reminds me so so sooo much of l.a. (it was a close tie between lady killers II by g-eazy) and the song itself is sort if adrenaline rush was a song which i'll most likely feel the moment i first shift. ● there she goes - the la's - this song is more on how i see myself in my dr/my vibes in my dr, y'know? i've always been a fan of 2000s rom-coms and i've always wanted to be sort of a main caracter in one, so i'm always so happy and thankful whenever someone says i do have that type of personality/aura and i'd like to have it in this reality as well! ● no 1. party anthem - arctic monkeys - this song can be interpreted in numerous ways and while majority of them are a pretty sad interpretation (and i can do a whole essay on every single one but let's do that some other time), i genuinely adore this song with my whole heart and consider it as a love song about me and my dr s/o. there's a specific verse in its bridge "the look of love, the rush of blood. the "she's with me"s, the gallic shrug. the shutterbugs, the camera plus the black & white and the colour dodge." that brings me to my knees and make me go "hey that's us!". me and my dr s/o sort of have a love at first sight (the look of love, the rush of blood) friends-to-lovers trope, so obviously there's a lot of mutual pining and slow burn there, but i think it's sort of bittersweet to have those moments. not in a "oh, i want to be cheesy and corny and blah" (which you can do obviously but that is not my intention here personally), but in a "we get the chance to understand each other to a deeper level that no one else can, but there's this risk, and it's up to us if we want to take it or not.". especially with the fact that we don't act upon our feelings until much later (thought a lot of our friends already speculate || "the "she's with me"s, the gallic shrug") also connects me to this song more for this song is a representation of longing and yearning for someone who you're unsure if they like you back especially knowing everyone has their eyes on the both of you (because he's a well-known actor and i'm a well-known writer || "the camera plus the black & white and the colour dodge") (there's so much words for the last song omg i'm so sorry y'all my lover girl slipped out of her cage.)
🌊; pretend your dr has one of those filler-beach-day episodes. what’s everyone doing?
omgg this reminded me of a scene in this show i'm a part of in my dr (yellowjackets) where it does have a filler-beach-day episode (well more like scene and they were in a lake but whateverrr) anyway, going back to the question! i'm mostly close with drag queens in my dr since i've worked for rupaul's drag race (the og and all stars) for about 10 years so i can only imagine most of the queens like shea couleé, trixie mattel, katya zamolodchikova, violet chacki, jaida essence hall, plastique tiara, etc. relaxing in the corner enjoying the sun and other queens like nymphia wind, dawn, gottmik, symone, plasma, kandy muse, xunami muse, morphi, naomi smalls, bob the drag queen, monet x change, etc. probably ready to drown each other during a game of beach volleyball. (i'm so sorry if this answer's like super messy and not accurate to the question my head is so empty rn HDJKFHSKFHDSJ)
this was such a fun questionnaire session tysmmm gaiaaa!!!! <3333

My Lady Jane / Tv Show Review
This is a mostly spoiler free review of My Lady Jane.
My Lady Jane is based on a book series that was on my to-be-read list for quite some time back in the late 2010s. It is modern, it is feminist to a point, and it's a fun little romp with a romance with a very good sizzling chemistry between the leads and a very strong, ensemble cast. It does feel a bit dated at times, like the feminism and the plot wasn't updated enough from the time it came out and while the narrator that tells you the story in a nonchalant, comedic way is fun, but it does get a bit grating at some point.
The eight-episode curse strikes again with some rushed plot points and character introductions. Things just sort of happens sometimes, side characters fall in love too quickly and certain things just don't feel earned enough which makes certain things and plot elements just not hold enough weight or tension. Things just happen to move the plot along. There is however a certain amount of earnestness radiating from the main character of My Lady Jane that make up for that. You can tell that the actors are giving it their all and poring the heart and soul into this show.
Certain parts of it do feel a bit formulaic and almost too standard for this sort of modern period drama that it has becomes sort of a cliché or like an overused trope. The broody dark haired love interest with his tragic past and the modern thinking, girlboss sort of female lead that is just smarter are archetype just feels a bit boring. And the show just doesn't do enough to make those characters more than those tropes. But the ensemble cast had some excellent performances and unexpected gems when it comes to characters and despite the archetypes the chemistry between the two leads is excellent. Those two really do sell the romance to the viewers.
The enemies-to-lovers plot was predictable, but the leads had such great chemistry that I sort of forgave them for it, and there is just so many ways that sort of story can end or go. It was fun to watch, just predictable. I did indeed wait and wait in anticipating for them to kiss, even if the pining for that 'lust at first site' romance could have been stronger, but that could also just be because of the time-limit. But then again, I live a good slow-burn and a shit ton of yearning.
The fantasy element was a fun addition to the story, even if those sort of plots of the magical users being persecuted by society isn't anything new you could tell that they were trying to use it as a metaphor or a reflection on the politics of our society. It felt a bit heavy handed at times, but it also made an effort to show that you can't rush thing with these sorts of policies and that the fight takes time.
I would describe My Lady Jane as a 2010s CW period drama with slightly better costumes and a budget than one might get on a show such as Reign. You can tell that the people behind the show really wanted it to be like The Great, but the YA romantasy story elements of the source material make it lose its edge a bit, despite the efforts the show puts in to say swear words and such.
It does however manage it incredibly well to take itself seriously and yet not at all at the same time and just have fun with the wild premise that it got to be a very enjoyable ride with some good rom com elements. It does try a bit too hard at times, it is maybe a bit too rushed and a cliché, but it's never boring. It is a vibe for those of us that just enjoyed Reign because it was dramatic YA-like period drama with some cute leads and romance.

the way of the househusband — levi ackerman
ೃ pairing: (husband! levi ackerman x ceo wifey! reader)
ೃ There is the “ideal” nuclear family. The one composed of a working husband with a well-paying 9 to 5 job, loving housewife who cooks and cleans, and adoring children who do well in school. However, that idealization is looong gone. What about you and your family? You are the CEO of a Tech Start-up Company who ain’t no trophy wife, Your husband hails from the last line of Ackermans and who temporarily resigns from being a vice executive of your company (just because he doesn’t want to work with young, feeling philanthropist, and genius GenZers) to become a hands-on househusband, and then there’s your little daughter who has the most inquisitive mind and adventurous heart who idolizes her doting father in every shape, way, and form. A month’s absence in your home (due to a business trip) could lead to many many things. But, your husband randomly publishing a self-help book on parenting and being a househusband is not one of those things.
ೃ genre and warnings: modern au, domestic fluff, baby au, husband au,
ೃ my nav → my aot masterlist
ೃ 4k words
ೃ Will be referring to hanji as “aunkling” (a cute nickname that some kiddos use to refer to their non-binary relatives <3) because there are no official non-binary terms for aunt and uncle! + your daughter with levi is named amelia and she is just the most precious cinnamon roll
It’s done.
The Business Trip is finally over.
A long and painful month of no hugs and playdates with your little princess, Amelia and no time to be pampered with love and affection from your husband, Levi was finally over!
Sometimes, you wonder how you were even able to survive these long-ass trips and conferences. Sure, these month-long trips only happened once a year, but the thought of Amelia getting older and having to miss a day of seeing her grow up and discover the world, really hurt you as all mothers would. Video Calls were enough to satisfy you and give you happy hormones even for just a short while, but still- the longer you’re not with them, the more the yearning lengthens until you’re just riddled with endless thoughts of wanting to get home as soon as possible.
First, let’s set things straight: You are the CEO of a Tech Start-up company who was born into a middle-class family and rose her way up to success. It’s as cliche as it gets but hey! Living a life as if you were in a romantic comedy was the best compliment you’ve ever gotten.
Along with that, as far as rich families in rom-coms and coming of age movies go, are they all dysfunctional in reality? Not really. Or at least you and Levi promised each other not to end up like that. The Rich Girl meets Poor Boy (with a tragic backstory) cliche however? Yea, that’s a pretty accurate way to describe your love story. Meeting the love of your life in a Coffee Shop is actually pretty common and happens to a lot of people apparently. When Erwin Smith, Levi’s best friend (who is too smart and self-aware to fit the role of a rom-com sidekick by the way) approaches your table to ask if he and Levi could sit with you. (Because of all the days the cafe would be packed, it would be that day.) You said yes of course, and Erwin began oversharing details about the raven-haired man and you were all too invested in learning more about him anyway. Levi grew up in the orphanage after his mother had died and his father was the biggest asshole on the planet for never showing his face, he had to fend for himself after he outgrew the foster system. Starting out as an espionage in an illegal underground gambling empire to a bookkeeper at the Smiths’ bookshop. (Although this is a story for another day)
Internally swooning over his pretty eyes and resting bitch face...it didn’t take long until the two of you fell in love and... the rest was history!
You come home to your lavish yet homey apartment in 21 West End Avenue Manhattan to be surprised by your father-daughter duo absolutely knocked out on the couch. Amelia was snuggled up to her father, her feet on his lap and a sleeping position you could not possibly comprehend, a Disney movie playing in the background, and both of them were wearing matching Minion onesies whilst yours was folded neatly on the coffee table just waiting to be worn by you when you got home.
It was a rare sight to see and you can’t help but just stare lovingly at the wonderful scene before you. Not only was it rare to see Amelia asleep before seeing you (or in the case of your business trips, during your daily video calls with them) but it was also rare to see your husband sleeping so soundly and his insomnia not kicking in.
Amelia hears your footsteps, her eyes are still shut as she tries to predict what you will do next. She finally assesses when she will make her move and surprise you when you place another fleece blanket on top of them and plant a kiss on both of their temples. your daughter’s eyes suddenly flutter open. Her eyes beaming and glowing off the same light that twinkled in her father’s as she jumps off the couch, making sure not to wake up Levi.
“MOMMY!” She screams in the most quiet volume her cute voice could muster. She runs up to you and envelops you in a tight hug, jumping up and down as she does so. “I missed you Mommy! I missed you soooo much! How was sandbox in K-korea!? Was there a lot of sand!? Did you have a lot of pwaymates there!?”
You giggle at your daughter’s enthusiasm, combing your fingers through her hair. “Lili, Sandbox is like the Silicon Valley of Korea. It isn’t necessarily a sandbox like in a playground, baby.”
“OOOH! JUST LIKE SIWICON VAWWEY!” She chirps, tightening her hug and reaching for your hand and squeezing it. “AH WAIT!” She gently pushes you away and makes a beeline to her room. “ME AND DADDY HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU! BUT CLOSE YOUR EYES FIRST OWKAAY?!” She calls out from her room and you shout back a “yes!” to her in between your giggles, unable to contain the sudden rush of serotonin your daughter had given you from her simple yet adorable antics.
Another trope that you can debunk is that rich moms can be a hands-on parent too! After your maternity leave ended and when Amelia had finally reached her toddler years, you absolutely made sure that you were going to take care of her every second, minute, hour and day of your life. As soon as she turned two, she became the inquisitive, smart and ever so curious little girl you and Levi had always hoped for. She had your (h/c) hair and Levi’s icy yet warm and loving milky grey eyes. If the color of Levi’s reminded you of dark and stormy clouds, Amelia’s was gleaming. Like that of the clouds after a terrible storm. She was an absolute blessing and although you weren’t a perfect mother, (spoiling her more than you should) Levi was an amazing father. Growing up without parents was tough for him and he was going to make sure that Amelia is going to have an amazing childhood and be surrounded by the love of two parents that he never had and never got to experience.
You always and will forever have trust in Levi. There has never been a day where you doubted him. Despite the impressions and assumptions that people have of him. How he was cold, scary, and even calculating. But, you are always quick to shut down those rumors. They don’t know the Levi Ackerman behind the cold and mighty front he shows. He is a man who has gone through so much and yet has so much love and care to give. How he notices and remembers the littlest details, how he never takes anything for granted and how he loves and cherishes everything so wholeheartedly.
When Amelia turned six, you sadly had to go back to work formally. Right timing too because your genius (with very himbo tendencies) younger cousin, Eren, was about to be part of your start-up company and he had a lot of amazing plans that had to come into fruition. Even bringing in a group of his own friends (who all graduated in MIT by the way!) who are willing to contribute so many amazing ideas and hackathons that were just waiting to happen.
The entrance of these youthful and hopeful genius entrepreneurs also brought about the temporary exit of your very own husband from your very own company. Apparently, working with newly graduated Gen Zers (as a millennial) was too much for him. They were nice and they were going to be a very integral part of the company. But, the boomer inside Levi can’t just can’t keep up with this sudden surge of energy and youthfulness within the higher-ups. It was also a great opportunity for him to take care of Amelia even more. So, you didn’t stop him from doing so!
It’s been a year since he temporarily resigned and became an official-unofficial househusband. Or as your best friend Hanji likes to put it, You are the Girl Boss and he is the Male Wife. Amelia is now 7 years old and she’s currently taking Ballet classes (Levi picks her up during the weekdays, and the both of you pick her up on the weekends) and has developed a hyperfixation over Sanrio Characters and the Disney movie, Frozen. She was growing up to be a wonderful girl and you just can’t wait to hear what she and Levi had done during your absence.
She skips her way back to you, a book tightly clutched in her hands. “SURPRISE!” Amelia gingerly places a book on your hand. You open your eyes and tilt your head in question at the piece of literature she had just given you as you read the title aloud. “The Way of the House Husband… written by Levi Ackerman.” Your eyes shift to a little circle on the lower side of the cover, “The husband of (Y/N) Ackerman, the CEO of Survey Corp Tech…!?”
“Daddy and I made a book while you were away!” She claps her hands together and grabs the book back from you, turning it to the first page. “See there’s even a dedication! To (Y/N) and Amelia! The two brightest stars in my galaxy!”
“Oh that’s too cheesy. No way would your dad write something like this out of the blue, Lili.” You scoff, shaking your head in disbelief. Your daughter looks at you with downcast eyes while you were still trying to process that your husband literally just wrote a whole-ass book while you were away. “Who helped publish this so quickly, Amelia?”
“Uncle Erwin of course!” She’s frowning for one second and now she’s beaming at you again. “Please please read it mommy! Me and daddy worked really really hard on it!” She taps the hardbound cover of the book in rhythms. “This is the Amelia Edition! Daddy said he cut out some stuff so that it would be okay for me to read and for me to give to you once you get home! It’s my come back home gift for you mommy!” She moves the book to your lap and hops up next to you on the loveseat that you were sitting on. Before you know it, Amelia is resting her head on your shoulder and coaxing you to start reading to her like it was a bedtime story.
You clear your throat and hold her by the waist so that she can feel more secure in her seat. “Okay… okay… let’s begin shall we? In a kingdom far far away…”
“That’s not how the book is like mommy! Read it properly like the way daddy did!”
“I was just joking, honey. Let’s get started. Rule #1 of the House Husband is…”
Rule #1: Fathers, be good to your children. You are the weight of their world.
“One thing I learned as soon as I was at home practically 24/7 is that your child will be more cautious and weary of you. They will observe you because they look up to you. They will watch your every move, follow you around, and will imitate whatever you say and whatever they hear from you. Talk to them, teach them things they need to know, support them in their hobbies, interests, and even if you have to be the extra princess in her tea party, do it. The thing is, you will leave an eternal mark on the hearts of your children.”
Amelia got even more closer to Levi when he was finally stationed at home. Always grinning from ear to ear and boasting to her classmates how cool her dad was whenever he would pick her up from school. She was proud to tell them Levi’s heritage even if Amelia never got to meet her Grandma Ackerman and Grandpa Ackerman. When Levi would take her out for errands, may they be groceries, cleaning the house, baking, cooking, laundry, or just going on his morning jog, Amelia would be there to accompany him. In fact, she’s gone shopping with Levi so many times that she has memorized the brand names of cleaning detergent and bleach before she could even memorize the multiplication table.
She’s even caught up with her father’s cynical sense of humor. And because of that, Levi had to tone down on his sardonic jokes around the little girl. Levi wasn’t necessarily physically affectionate but he does soften around Amelia as the little girl never fails to supply him with endless hugs and kisses on the cheek. She may be both a Mommy’s and Daddy’s girl, but the way she looks up to Levi is the kind of father-daughter bond that you hardly see in real life. She aspires to be like him. Even if there were times where she would be scolded by you both, (most especially Levi) she never took that against you. She sees all the good and positive sides of your husband that others outside of your circle fail to see.
Rule #2: Let your children know that they have other “guardian angels” who they can rely on aside from their parents.
“My daughter has both my wife and I’s best friends to learn from or to look up to. Her kooky aunkling and her blunt uncle have become one of the most precious people in her life. Even the young ins working at Survey Corp Tech have become older siblings to her and get along with her so well. Remember that there will always be close relatives or friends who can and will help them when they lose their way. Let them spread sunshine and love to others.”
Whether it’s a regular trip to Coney Island or your monthly trips to Disneyland, Hanji or Erwin would totally tag along. Amelia absolutely loves and vibes with Hanji’s quirkiness so well. They would wear matching Mickey Mouse ears, ride the kiddie roller coaster that Amelia wanted to ride on a million times per visit, buy her all the ice cream and treats she wants (despite Levi’s warnings and the reprimanding that Hanji has to suffer from the both of you right after.) They just want Amelia to experience all the fun, the joy, and innocence of living in the moment. As a kid, it’s better if she sees how precious life is, how she should cherish it and that she doesn’t have to grow up so fast just yet.
Erwin on the other hand, brought out Amelia’s intellectual side more. As soon as a new and critically acclaimed children’s book hit the shelves, you bet Amelia has a copy right away. Whenever Levi would take her to Erwin’s bookstore, she wanders around like it’s this huge mysterious archive that can only be accessed by her. The Adults section is forbidden, so were the cheap romance novels in the back, and the books written by youtubers. God forbid she read those. When her Uncle Erwin got her into reading Roald Dahl’s children’s books, you had to watch Amelia run around the penthouse with a little red ribbon tied on top of her hair, wanting to be referred to as Matilda, along with you and Levi having to pretend that she had telekinetic powers for 6 months straight. It was her cutest phase yet and you just know there were many more to come.
There were also Eren and his friends who loved Amelia dearly whenever she came over to visit. Your little cousin refused to be called Uncle Eren and instead wanted to be called big bro, and in which Amelia happily complied. Whenever it was Amelia’s weekly “Visit Mommy at Work” day, she had her own room in your office where Eren and your other young associates would babysit her. In fact, they would actually take turns in babysitting at your condo whenever you and Levi went out for date night. Amelia was introduced to playing video games like Animal Crossing and Pokemon solely because of them (more specifically because of big bro Jean, big sis Sasha, and big bro connie.) They even ended up influencing her to watch anime when her big brother “Minmin” and big sis “Mimi” accidentally left the TV on and Amelia literally binge-watched half of the existing Studio Ghibli movies to this date.
Rule #3: Your children will think that you are Superman or Iron Man. Make sure to act like them and never let them down by ruining their innocence and imagination.”
(A little note was attached to this page: Please don’t let Amelia read this. Read her a fairy tale instead while skimming through this.)
“It all started when my daughter found an entire encyclopedia on ancient and legendary family clans around the world. The Ackerman clan was on the very first page after the intro and she read through all 50 pages of it. The look of awe on her face when she read that her dad’s ancestors exhibit physical abilities much higher than the average human. In a 7 year old’s mind and vocabulary, that automatically translates to a superhero akin to that of Superman.
Ever since then, My daughter has forced me to become more creative with doing very mundane tasks and chores. I pretend to have superpowers. Such as teleporting around the house whilst cleaning. I tell her to close her eyes or else my teleportation powers won’t work. Then when I cook in the kitchen and she watches me intently, I tell her that the salt and pepper have magical properties that only I can touch and hold because to her, at that moment, I was “Doctor Stwange.”
and one time, when I picked her up from school, she was babbling on about how she told her friends and playmates that she had two superhero parents she was very proud of. Then one of the other kids asked if I was a strong soldier who killed huge humanoid monsters using sharp blades. To which I replied that could have possibly happened in a different universe. Her hearty laughs and giggles whenever she sees me using my superpowers makes me anxious over the fact I have to tell her someday that my powers never existed.”
Whilst you were on your monthly trip, you and Levi would have private video calls whenever Amelia was finally put to bed. There, he told you about what happened in Amelia’s ballet classes that week and how the single mothers were more persistent than usual.
They could clearly see that Levi was not interested but apparently the fact that your husband waving his ring finger every single time someone approached him wasn’t obvious enough, apparently the fact that he was married made the risk even more worth it to these prying moms who had nothing better to do. It wasn’t until Amelia had enough and respectfully called them out by saying that his dad was married and he was never going to be interested in Karens (a slang word that she learned from Eren and friends) Since then, the invasion of parent to parent boundaries had finally stopped. Levi was very relieved and at ease whilst telling you the story yet you were laughing your heart out at the ingenious remarks of your very own daughter on top of the irresistible charm and looks of your own husband that made single mothers be damned.
Rule #4: The most important rule of all: Love your spouse as you want your children to be loved in the future.
“Since my wife is on a business trip right now as I type this and she may or may not know that I had written this book for her to read when she comes home, my daughter came up to me a few days ago and told me how she missed her mom so much. The video calls we had every night were not enough to satisfy her for the remaining days her mother would be gone. She then proceeds to tell me that she loves the way I love (Y/N). My daughter loved how patient I was and how I supported her through every endeavor that her mother had ever thought up with that brilliant mind of hers. She mentioned how I was there for her through every success and failure, through hardships, difficulties and misunderstandings. My daughter was happy because I stuck with her mother through everything. All the pain, suffering, conflicts that we both experienced individually and as husband and wife. Little ears and little eyes are watching and observing the actions and sweet gestures of their parents. Make sure to remember that.”
“What is gravy (grief) if not love persevewing?” (persevering) My daughter had even recounted a quote from the Disney Marvel show, WandaVision just to prove a point to me. That was when I realized something and decided to list down a few things:
1. The best lovers are the best of friends.
Levi’s relationship with you was rocky at first simply because the two of you didn’t have a lot in common. Your personalities clashed and the two of you could barely make things work in the beginning. He was always well-dressed, on time, and was very prim and proper. However, Levi was cold, strict, and unapproachable. You on the other-hand were quite the opposite. You used to arrive late, didn’t care too much about your style as long as you wore the appropriate outfit, but you were carefree, laidback and friendly. Having to set aside your differences was a process that required sacrifice, time, and effort. It took long and a lot of petty arguments before the two of you fully understood each other, accepted each other's faults and quirks, and became even closer. Both as friends and lovers. You and Levi treat each other not as just the “person I love and I’m married to for the rest of my life”, but also as a best friend for life. Soulmates
2. Their dreams are just as important as yours.
Levi’s dream was to open up a tea shop and start a family with you. That was all he ever wanted. The blissful simplicity of his in comparison to your techy and out of this world ambitions, goes to show how much they weigh as aspirations and wants in life. You have to value your significant other’s dreams and ambitions just as much as you highly value yours. No matter how hard or how simple they are, the both of you can achieve it with the help of each other. The only thing left in your agenda was to open up his long-awaited Tea Shop. You were about to surprise him with the plans of opening one up on the day of his birthday, and you just can’t wait for that day to finally come.
3. You have to let them be free.
Levi absolutely knew what he was getting into when he met you. It was love at first sight when he met you, He drunkenly admitted that one time when he’s had too much champagne on your friday date night. He knew that you were an adventurer. A wandering soul who had a goal and a purpose set in stone. He always knew you were going to reach greater heights and he knew that you would never leave him behind and would always have him go on a ride. He’s always known about your capabilities and your potential and he didn’t want you to stray away from that. And, if the time were to come that you had to leave him behind to soar greater heights, he’d understand that. He’d always let you be free and make sure you don’t fly too close to the sun. That was just how selfless Levi is. The thing is, he knows you would do the same for him. It was a perfect balance.
4. It is an honor to love and to be loved by them.
To be wrapped in the arms of someone who feels like home or has become the definition of home, To be stargazing with on a chilly summer night in where you talk about your future and your plans, To be sharing a cup of coffee or tea with in the morning and begrudgingly dancing with you against his will, To be watching your child playing in her room and do nothing but look adoringly at the most precious soul to have ever been produced by your encompassing love, and to be spending the rest of your life with someone who has done nothing but be with you through every pivotal moment in your life was such an honor.
It is an honor to be loved by Levi, as he is honored to be loved by you.
“...The end.” You close the book with a deep but contented sigh. Tears were welling up in your eyes and you’re trying your best not to break down in front of Amelia.
“Mommy… are you crying?” She tilts her head in inquiry. “Is it because you’re tired from work?”
“No. baby. These are happy tears, Lili. Don’t worry.”
Before you could speak up once more, you notice Levi had slowly sprung up from the couch, and began to stretch his arms. His eyes widen when he sees you from the opposite couch. “(Y/N)... you were supposed to arrive at 6 AM right? Amelia and I were supposed to pick you-”
Amelia opens her mouth to speak as she jumps down from the couch and crawls up to sit next to Levi. “Daddy! I showed Mommy the book you wrote! She loved it! Right, Mommy?”
“You did?” Your husband perks up from his seat, clearing his throat. “T-that’s not the entire book yet by the way. We had to give back the original copies to Erwin for reprinting. The self-help book is currently rising up the charts to be a New York Times Best Seller.”
Before Levi could properly react, you move to the free space on the couch next to him. Holding his hand and gazing into his forlorn yet loving eyes, you muttered. “Love, that’s amazing. I’m really really proud of you. Next time though, please do tell me that you’ve written a self-help book and dethroned all those mommy authors from the bestselling charts.”
Levi stifles a laugh, stroking your thumb and bringing you and Amelia closer to him for warmth. “I will. I will.”
Amelia looks up at the two of you, squeezing out of the sandwich, so that you and Levi can have your quality time with each other. “Goodnight Mom! Goodnight Dad!” She approaches the two of you so that she can be given her nightly kiss on the cheek as she retreats to her room.
“What if I write a novel too?” You joke, snuggling up to Levi, your husband wrapping his arm around you. “The title could be… The way of the Wife boss?”
“That could be a good sequel. A shared book universe. Then, Amelia could continue the collection when we’re old and sour as hell.” Levi mused.
“Pfft. I guess only time will tell. I love you Levi.”
“I love you too (Y/N).”

For the Love of Fic: March 21
Between my job and trying to do some writing last week, I didn’t get to read much, which is why I let this go another day. That was exactly what I needed, one evening to just get some reading in. My to-read list is still very long, but it feels nice to get some time to get back to it.
Here’s what I’ve been loving this week!
.
DIN DJARIN
Darkroom Din: Letting the Light In by @honestly-shite I love how this story is developing--pun intended. After getting used to being around each other and then sharing the darkroom in more ways than one, this chapter takes a turn for the more heartfelt, more meaningful, a build toward something surprising and deeper and I am here for it as always. I love this series and can’t wait to watch where it goes...
Simple and Clean by @writeforfandoms Beautiful. The story is as the title suggests, simple and clean. A lovely little soulmate tale of meeting and re-meeting and meeting for good. Bonus Grogu being cute AF.
.
JAVI GUTIERREZ
The Last Blockbuster: Tropes and Rom Coms for $500 Mr. Trebek by @blueeyesatnight In the 4th and 5th installment of “Javi buys the last Blockbuster on Earth,” there’s a Gabriella. And some heart hurt that’s panging around in the background. But also couch snuggles and decor shenanigans. And the descriptors “fluff-nugget” and “squishball.” I love him.
Yearning at Sunset by @radiowallet Cat’s writing is so damn good, so descriptive and meditative. She’s amazing at taking an atmosphere and straining an emotion through it to come out with a lovely concoction of a story. This is no exception as she takes Javi’s POV of a sunset waiting for the reader to arrive...
.
PERO TOVAR
The Hedgewitch and the Mercenary part 3a and 3b by @grogusmum Well, when you deal with the fae, there’s a price to pay, and if that means being their chosen one to be the vessels for their sexy rituals...yeah, it’s worth the price. I like how Hazel split it up into two parts to fade to black if you’re not looking to read the sexy times, but included it for us horndogs that can’t get enough of Pero...
No Other Land Would Know by @leslie-lyman This one swelled my heart. Set after her ongoing Stranger at My Gate series, It’s a love letter to the friendship of Pero Tovar and William Garin and it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve read here and touched me deeply. It almost makes me wish Pero could go back. Almost....
.
EZRA
Seasonal by @insomniamamma I am in love with J’s Ezra fics and I’m not sure if I love her modern Ez or Prickle universe pairing better. Perhaps I love them equally. This one takes place in her Prickle’verse, and I’m always delighted when she brings me into the Prospect world with her understanding of its strangeness and desperate times. But this time, not so desperate, just an appreciation for rain and how it feels on your skin. And with J’s masterful writing, that simple theme means so much many times over here. I never get tired of it.
.
DIETER BRAVO
Hubris and Triumph by @javier-pena Oof. I’ve never been into hatefucking before but SIGN ME UP FOR ON-SET SHENANIGANS WITH DIETER BRAVO. Hot like fire, naughty like sin, spiting angry and full of bile...and yet...there’s something just there beneath the surface that keeps me snagged on these two.... I’m very glad there’s a placeholder for part three....

A Lesson In Romance #2: Opposites Attract
Spencer Reid x Fem!BAU!Reader
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1k
Plot: Reader keeps getting caught in rom-com situations with Spencer Reid. This time, they become friends.
A/N: I can't believe I rewrote this chapter, like, 5 times, but I'm kinda happy with the final result 😌😌😌 Again, my ask is open if you want to send me a trope request!
Masterlist | All chapters here!
-----------
Contrary to popular belief, you've watched your fair share of rom-coms. Or at least enough to understand its three-act structure, even if you didn't understand why people bought into it just yet.
Take the concept of "opposites attract" for example. Two people with completely different interests and personalities are supposedly perfect for each other because they compensate for the other's weaknesses. But it was illogical, you knew this for a fact.
Opposites attract had your college roommate crying herself to sleep when she decided to date a popular jerk-wad. Opposites attract caused your best friend to transfer schools after a cruel Valentine's Day prank. Opposites attract made your dad divorce your mum and leave you and your siblings alone at the ripe age of eleven.
But according to rom-coms, these relationships were worth it. There was nothing sweeter than a shy person complementing a loud bully, or nothing that screamed sexual tension more than a practical joker tormenting a goody-two-shoes.
For your entire life up until this point, you just didn't get it. But then you met Garcia and Morgan, and things began to make sense.
The two of them couldn't be further apart. Derek was a typical player — traditional good looks, muscular, was probably a jock in high school. Penelope, on the other hand, dressed in bright colours and even brighter hair. She seldom left her office — which, for the record, was covered wall to wall with cuteness — and cared about her technology like it was an extension of herself.
At first, you didn't understand why they were so close. They were basically polar opposites. But when one of your first cases with the BAU hit too close to home for the usually cheerful tech analyst, you watched Derek drop everything he was doing to gently support her through it.
This was enough to make you rethink your theory. And if you were being really honest, it was enough to make you yearn for something like that for yourself.
Because the thing is, you hadn't stopped thinking about the shy, awkward man you met at the coffee shop. Even more so now that you were working together, and you found out that he was a certifiable genius with an IQ of 187.
To add to your surprise, you and Spencer weren't opposites — not in any material way, at least. You couldn't say otherwise when you only knew the things that everybody else knew.
Like how the two of you had qualifications in psychology (he had a B.A., you had a PhD), loved Doctor Who (he preferred Tom Baker, but you were partial to David Tennant), and shared a favourite movie genre in science fiction, but specifically space opera (he loved Star Trek, you were nostalgic for Star Wars).
And that was just the beginning.
You begun to realise little things about him every day that you noticed in yourself. The obvious one was your coffee preferences. You pretended not to notice when the team raised their eyebrows at the three full spoons of sugar you added to your coffee everyday.
But you also noticed the way Spencer bounced his leg when he was nervous, or moved his mouth when he was reading at that unbelievable pace.
You watched him so often, in fact, that one day you found yourself doing his trademark awkward smile and you realised your silent observations had gone too far.
In reality, you hadn't spoke to him alone for more than 10 minutes since you joined the team. The two of you were always around other people for some reason or other, and after the first few weeks passed like this, the expiry on talking to him about the coffee shop incident seemingly ran out.
Then one morning, when the coffee machine at work broke down and you were beginning to think this was the start of a very bad day, a cup of coffee was gently placed in front of you.
"Good morning," Spencer greeted, pulling over the chair from his desk to sit next to you. His held his own cup of coffee in one hand.
You recognised the logo as the coffee shop where you met him. The same one you'd been avoiding since you started working here. (Ok, so maybe the reason you hadn't spoken about the incident wasn't entirely due to external forces.)
"What's this for?" You asked, as if you didn't already know.
"A peace offering," he said, locking eyes with you. "I haven't seen you at the coffee shop in three weeks, which coincides exactly with the day we met and your first day at the BAU. I've... I've come to the conclusion that you're avoiding me, but I really hope you won't."
"Why?" You asked, reaching for the warm takeaway cup.
"Because I'd like to get to know you better." He said frankly. You were glad you hadn't taken a sip yet, because you might have spit it out in shock.
In the rom-coms you watched, confessions like these usually happened to a swell of music and dimmed lights, maybe while the two main characters were dancing in each others arms. But under the fluorescent lights at the bureau, you only felt your heart swell to an imaginary soundtrack.
"So would I," you replied, smiling despite yourself. You couldn't believe you just compared a rom-com scenario to real life, but watching Spencer's smile widen at your reply made the critic in you subside. His smile was, strangely, beautiful to you now.
"You're lucky I remembered your order," he teased, his pinkish cheeks weren't beyond your notice.
"Spencer. We share the same coffee order and you have an eidetic memory," you replied dryly.
"I know," he said, and the two of you locked eyes for a moment before breaking into a bout of laughter over the absurdity of your relationship.
Unbeknownst to the two of you, the unusual sight had caught the eyes of the other members in the bullpen. But it was only the next morning when you and Spencer walked into the office with matching cups of coffee, that the team confirmed that something was definitely up.
And they were going to find out what.

Rec Roundup – February 2021 #2
Well hello, you!
Alas, February is shrinking in the rearview mirror, and while it left us yearning for another taste of its sweet tang, we must bid adieu to the month of amor, while ushering in … March.
See you for another round of fic recs on the Ides of March! But don’t let David know, we wouldn’t want another nighttime oopsie daisy.
~Side note: We’ll be doing a separate @scseason7 roundup after author reveals on the 6th, so keep an eye out for that.~
Downtime by another_hero, Alexis & Ruth, G, 1198 words
Summary: Alexis and Ruth have a slumber party at a fancy hotel.
Rec [written by doingthemost]: First of all, love the concept of Alexis and Ruth being besties. Second of all, the way their personalities play off of each other here is so much fun. I would love to be invited to this slumber party, and the nice thing about these two is that I think they'd gladly extend an invitation to everyone to join the fun.
falling in love at a coffee shop by @thankstwy, @landofsonlali, and @anniemurphys, Alexis/Twyla, G & T, 2059 words
Summary: Alexis has never been good at getting the timing right. Twyla decides that it's about time that they do.
Rec [written by doingthemost]: Full disclosure, I wrote the first fic in this series – but the other two fics are so wonderful, I couldn't let them go unrecced. I love when fics give Twyla a chance to take charge of her destiny and to step out of the sidelines and into the spotlight in a way that canon never did. And the final fic is a picture-perfect rom-com in all its trope-y glory. 🥺
from words, but not from beauty [The Good Place crossover] by synchronicities, Alexis Rose & Tahani Al-Jamil, G, 2111 words
Summary: Two wine-drunk socialites have a fight.
Rec [written by yourbuttervoicedbeau]: Everyone who has ever talked about Alexis Rose and Tahani Al-Jamil meeting is one thousand percent correct, no matter if they think it they’d be enemies or BFFs or lovers (or enemies-to-bffs-to-lovers). So I was DELIGHTED to see this fic pop up, and it’s charming from start to finish. The name-dropping! The characterisation! I would read a million more words of this, and yet at the same time the amount of words I got is PERFECT.
i can tell that we are gonna be friends by @thankstwy, David & Twyla (background Alexis/Twyla), G, 700 words
Summary: When it's time for the newly-branded Twyla's Café Tropical to reopen, Twyla asks David for a favour. AKA: Help me, David-Wan Kenobi! You're my only hope!
Rec [written by yourbuttervoicedbeau]: I am such a sucker for any fic that explores David and Twyla being friends, and I particularly love this one being set post-canon! Of course Twyla knows the way to David’s heart is by valuing his skills, and of course David wants to try.
I’ve Got This by @missgeevious, Patrick & Alexis, G, 392 words
Summary: Patrick and Alexis get pulled over.
Rec [written by yourbuttervoicedbeau]: This fic packs so many jams into such a small wordcount — I love Patrick and Alexis’ relationship, I love frustrated Patrick, and I love that I can absolutely envisage Alexis’ expression every step of the way through this. This fic is the definition of short and sweet!
I want to show you the shape I'm in by @yourbuttervoicedbeau, Alexis/Stevie, T, 1017 words
Summary: The backing track for 'Money, Money' is already pumping out of the speakers when she pokes her head around the door to see Patrick and Stevie stomping around each other like they have been in every rehearsal, while the smokeshow Alexis assumes is the choreographer takes notes on a little clipboard.
Rec [written by doingthemost]: Patrick and Stevie's dance rehearsal lives rent-free in my mind, and I suspect that I'm not alone. I love how fanfic can not only answer all the little "what if"s that pop into our heads, like "what if Alexis saw one of their rehearsals?" but expand upon it so that the answer becomes greater than what you thought it could be. There's such a natural evolution from amused curiosity to want, and the tone is so light and playful, this could have easily taken place within the canon.
perfect cup of coffee by @samwhambam, Stevie/Twyla, T, 842 words
Summary: Twyla learns that Stevie is very good at making coffee.
Rec [written by doingthemost]: I love reading about the excitement that comes with the start of a new relationship, and this quiet, gentle little fic delivers that in spades. Not only is it such a sweet reflection on their relationship, but it's also such a good character study of these two. The promise that life has to offer the two of them is so evident and heartwarming!
Recognize my role, i fucked up the timing (gonna pay dearly for years full of silence) by @turningtimeinthetardis, Alexis/Ted and Alexis/Twyla, T, 338 words
Summary: She and Alexis have something. Or they're on the verge of having something. Right?
Rec [written by samwhambam]: Short and sweet and full of angst. Just like I like my coffee in the morning. (Truly, give this a read if you want your heart to be broken in 338 words. Hurts so good.)
Swiping Regret by @treepyful, Ray & Ronnie, T, 3197 words
Summary: Ray’s adventures on Bumpkin: the aftermath of five bad dates and one good one.
Rec [written by samwhambam]: It’s a 5 + 1 of Ray DATING!! D-A-T-I-N-G and then going to his bff’s house afterwards to debrief. It’s a perfect fic. It’s the kind of fic that makes you want to go hug your own Ronnie and tell them thank you for also supporting you through your own tinder adventures. Also there’s a hinted relationship between Ray and a townie that has me wanting more.
This Stupid, Wonderful, Boring, Amazing Job by @lilythesilly, Alexis/Twyla, G, 1129 words
Summary: “I once had my own reality tv show, ‘ A Little Bit Alexis’; maybe you’ve seen it? I was also a plant on three seasons of ' The Bachelor Australia .' So I’m, like, super familiar with how confessionals work. Anyway, I came to Dunder Mifflin because I needed a quick temp job since our super shady business manager ran off with all of my family’s money, and it turns out I can literally sell anything to anyone. Even paper.” A cute lil 'The Office' AU.
Rec [written by samwhambam]: Do you love Alexis/Twyla? Do you love the office? If you answered yes to either one of those, you will love this fic. This moment between them perfectly mirrors a Jim and Pam scene and it really makes you root for them. I highly recommend.
Happy reading, friends!

ღ VIRGINIA VIAMONTES — CHARACTER TROPES
PART 1/2
stepford smiler
tw mention of mental illness - anxiety & depression
virginia will always have a smile on her face, no matter what. a cursed blessing, a power bestowed to her by dionysus allowing her to maintain a permanent poker face. on the outside, virginia comes across as yet another ditzy social butterfly. bubbly, carefree, and annoyingly optimistic, it doesn’t seem like there’s much that can actually faze her. a lover of the spotlight, she makes sure she’s hard to miss, always one you can hear coming a mile away and brightening any room she walks into. at her core, she’s extremely friendly, always needing wanting someone to talk to. an expert at small talk, priding herself in always being able to fill up awkward silences. of course, this is nothing more than a mask she puts on because the truth is virginia viamontes, is utterly and devastatingly broken. she’s been like this for a while. always having the perfect smile on her lips while laying awake at night by the demons that haunt her. the insecurities and fears that run through her mind are never ending. part of the reason why you’ll rarely find virginia on her own is because of how easily it is for her to get sucked into her own thoughts. she’s terrified of never being good enough: not being talented, not being smart enough, not being beautiful enough, not being worthy enough — of literally not being enough for anyone. she’s completely numb inside, the smile she puts on being nothing more than a facade to get her through the day. she works extremely hard and bends over backwards for others only to feel like she’s let down someone every time. it’s something that has gone untreated for years with virginia refusing to admit that how she feels isn’t normal or accept that she needs help.
abusive parents
tw mention of emotional neglect, mention of death
while virginia cares deeply for her parents, her mother especially, the relationship she has with graciela viamontes and dionysus is rocky to say the least. as a child she idolized the romantic fairytale her mother had created about how her parents met. graciela spinning a story of how dionysus was her prince charming who fell to his untimely demise before vi was born. going so far as to take the girl to visit ‘his grave’ all throughout her childhood. it wasn’t until virginia’s powers manifested and graciela realized that the vague note dionysus had left behind about how he was a god and would be back once vi got older, that she realized her web of lies was soon to be untangled. it completely devarstated vi. while it was something she never confronted her mother about, it did cement some deep seeded issues in the girl. her mother became distant after it was revealed that vi was a demi-god, resentful almost. she still provided for vi but things were never the same. she stopped being the person virginia would go to for anything and everything. she knows her mom’s never looked at her the same either and vi’s almost sure that she blames her for her failed broadway dreams. the tipping point coming during virginia’s senior of high school when vi wanted to go to julliard and graciela insisted she attend eonia. while she was accepted into both, graciela kept pressuring vi into attening eonia in athens due to it being the ‘safer’ option. an argument that lasted weeks, with graciela refusing to help vi with anything college related, backing her into a corner until she had to attend eonia. it caused them to not speak for weeks with her step-father serving as a mediator between the two. ‘til this day, virginia’s almost certain there’s a part of her mom that fears virginia. every decision she’s made feels like it’s been something to keep vi at arm’s length all while keeping a very cautious eye on her, especially when it came to how virginia engaged with her step-father and baby sister. then there’s dionysus. meeting dionysus was such a let down, mainly because he was nothing like the version graciela had created. he wasn’t interested in virginia, never giving her the validation or love she so desperately craved. she spent years trying to please him, doing everything in her power to get just an ounce of something from him. once her step-father entered the picture, vi did manage to get that father figure she yearned for but it never took away the pain of knowing that no matter how hard she tries, dionysus will never care. with both of them being neglectful in their own way, it’s caused a lot of problems with how she involves herself with others.
never my fault
accountability has never been something virginia has learned to take. there’s always someone within arm’s reach to blame, somehow never making things her fault. she’s always merely reacting to the actions of someone else. she’s been like this since she was a little girl. during her playground years, this would translate as virginia incessantly bugging her classmates to the point of them lashing out at her. of course, what most adults would see were the crying little girl who was being picked on, vi conveniently not mentioning how they had said no multiples times before before losing their temper on her. the older she got, the more trouble she seemed to get herself into. never acting alone and always putting the blame on whoever she managed to wrap into her mess. it’s evident with her relationship with others, the victim card being something she knows how to play all to well. whether it’s a fallout with a friend, a break-up with a significant other, even a fight with a siblings - she’ll say she’s never the one at fault. someone always did something leaving her to come out of it scot-free, at least that’s the story she’ll tell.
i just want to be loved
there’s an innate need of wanting to be loved. between the web of lies her mom made up, endless rom-com’s virginia grew up watching, and lack of love she received from both parents, she was definitely influenced at a young age to feel a certain way toward love. whether it was familial, platonic, or romantic, she’s always yearned for it. the need to be validated and liked by others stemming from just simply wanting love. she’s definintely a hopeless romantic at heart, falling way too hard, way too fast. she let’s her emotions get the best of her, usually in an unhealthy way that always leaves her feeling like as much as she wants to be loved, she either doesn’t deserve it or will never get it.
her own worst enemy
tw mention of mental illness - anxiety & depression
if there is one thing vi has always seemed to excel at, it’s been sabotaging herself. doesn’t really matter what the topic is, if there’s a chance things might go wrong, vi makes sure she’s the one that makes it go wrong before things have a chance to blow up on their own. there’s a sense of power that she feels she has with this, like if she can somehow control the situation, she can control her emotions upon the outcome of things? unsurprisingly, it never ends up working in her favor. her insecurities and fears always getting the best of her. at the end of the day, she hates herself too much to allow herself to be happy. it’s an annoying contradiction, considering how much she actually wishes to be happy. she’s just so set into her self-loathing ways that she sabatoges any type of happiness or success that seems to be near.
FUN BONUS —
alliterative name
her name was specifically picked as an alliterative name. first, going off the nickname ‘vi’ and finding what name fit: viviana, violet, viviette, were some of the contenders before picking virginia. hence, before the revamp she was virginia vinh and is now virginia viamontes.

♛ Spotted on the Upper East Side…
Name: Diana Watts Pronouns: She/Her Age: 50 years old Hometown: Up To Player Occupation: Actor Social Status: Insider Faceclaim suggestion: Laverne Cox (if choosing an alternative remember Diana is a Black trans woman)
Who Is Diana?
“Now I accidentally need you, I don’t know what to do. Oops, baby I love you.”
Diana Watts, as I live and breathe. I picked the very best time to make my return, didn’t I? You’ve been all around the world but I know you have a soft spot for New York. You’re an icon, a legend. You have enough accolades to fill a penthouse or fifty and still counting. You’ve always put your heart into everything you do. If you don’t believe in something, if you don’t truly care for it, you won’t do it. You need to be invested which, admittedly, can backfire. You tend to fall a little bit in love with everyone you meet. You romanticize them. You can’t help it though, right? I mean, chasing a fairytale ending will keep you busy for a long time. If you’re looking for love though... Call me. XOXO ---Gossip Girl
A Little Extra
UTP (two paragraphs of biography; helpful key points listed below - message if you’d like to make any changes or note in the app if you’d rather the bio written up for you!)
Diana Watts is an iconic actor and a member of the incredibly famous ‘brat pack’. Diana, Johnny, Rebecca and Jamie were the up-and-coming stars of their time. They all had their biggest break on a soapy teen drama that had more twists and turns than you could keep up with. Diana loved her show and all of her work since. She still attends conventions, meet and greets, nostalgic 90s club nights... She’s proud of her work.
When it comes to her heart, Diana can get carried away. Swept up in the moment, you know? Over the years there were many famous relationships (some fabricated by the press, some real). Even when she’s been hurt, her heart can’t help but yearn for more.
So, as her career progressed, she became known for rom-coms. A sucker for all the tropes, cheesy dialogue and inevitable happy ending (after the tragic montages, of course), Diana became the queen of them. She also worked on her own books, scripts and a successful podcast.
Family is important to Diana. Even when things were at their height of hectic, she would make sure to check in with them. She’s the favourite auntie to Amber, Sam and Gracie Watts. Diana makes time even when there’s no time to make.
The latest news? A big ‘brat pack’ reunion on a soapy, supernatural drama that Diana just couldn’t say no to. The old gang back together on “Friday Night Bites”? Her heart can hardly handle it. Plus, she’ll get to work with Gracie and give advice to other newbies. This is going to be good.
What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?
UTP (if applicable; alternatively you can note their thoughts on Gossip Girl’s return!)
Connections
Amber, Sam and Gracie Watts - Diana is the aunt to Amber, Sam and Gracie. She’s watched each of them grow up and always makes sure she’s available to them. Could not contain the excitement when Gracie was cast on FNB! So happy to be in the same city as them all again.
Jamie Park - the lifelong bestie and fellow ‘brat pack’ member. Jamie is Diana’s nearest and dearest. Nothing could ever come between them! They dabbled with dating each other for a while but it wasn’t a ‘forever’ kind of thing. They have no secrets... Except for that brief thing between Diana and Rebecca they both agreed should stay buried.
Rebecca Ravenwood - fellow ‘brat pack’ member. Becca lost touch with almost everyone years ago and it hurt, truly. Diana was never afraid to call Becca out when needed but they loved each other. They all did.
Johnny Hastings - Johnny and Diana used to be married. Things were good, you know? For a while. But Johnny had always had their demons and sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can’t save someone.

CHICAGO TYPEWRITER ( 시카고 타자기) From April to June 2017
Network: tvN
Number of episodes: 16
Cast: Yoo Ah In, Lim Soo Jung, Go Kyung Pyo, Kwak Si Yang, Joo Woo Jin, Yang Jin Sung
Kilig* Factor: Satisfactory. It’s there but not too in-your-face. Seju is just a total tsundere but it’s perfect because (spoiler?) it’s every fangirl’s dream to meet their idol and be able to peel back all their layers and see them for who they truly are. There’s just enough strain between them that makes you root for them but there’s also some solid, cute couple moments that I may or may not have re-watched because huhu when will I ever???
Drama Factor: SO. MUCH. ANGST. I LOVE IT. Since the plot revolves around a tragedy they can’t figure out, when more of the plot is revealed, there is so much upheaval of emotions on their part, which also affects the audience. Not too mention the main cast’s acting is no joke. Absolutely captivating. Every episode feels heavy loaded, especially the last parts. This drama made me tear up again and again because one, there’s just something about past lives that really get to me and two, the lines (thank Jin Soo Wan) and their delivery just hit home so hard.
Love Triangle Factor: This triumvirate’s affection for each other is the only Kdrama love triangle I will recognize. Their friendship is so special and it LITERALLY transcended lifetimes. The main cast’s chemistry is endearing like they’re all going through so much but they still have each other’s backs. And you know what, I love how Seol didn’t have to pick. I mean, she sort of did, but she didn’t really. Those two boys were both hers and they knew it. Sigh, now I want to be their friend.
Notes: it really isn’t a surprise that Chicago Typewriter is my favorite drama because the characters are writers/avid readers; there is a touch of supernatural in the plot which is always good in my books; there is amazing acting. I honestly couldn’t get over how well they did it (especially Ko Gyung Pyo who is now one of my favorites); there is a balance between sad and light scenes, all while letting the story progress; and there are really cute moments without it feeling like fan service. I just love this show. I finished it at 4 AM after no sleep and I was physically and emotionally exhausted but at the end, it made me want to sit down and write and work because that’s the kind of storytelling that I want the world to be filled; stories that make people want to claim their roles as heroes in their stories. And heroes they are, this unforgettable trio. The only thing unrealistic about this is that Seju lives in a mansion. Like, I get that he’s a writer and he’s famous, but a mansion? Really? That’s doubtful.
Rating: 10/10 (will watch again!!!)

W: TWO WORLDS ( 더블유) From July to September 2016
Network: MBC
Number of episodes: 16
Cast: Lee Jong Suk, Han Hyo Joo, Jong Eu Gene, Lee Tae Hwan, Park Won Sang, Cha Kwang Soo, Kim Eui Sung
Kilig Factor: Hyo Joo and Jong Suk have impeccable chemistry and Song Jae Jung (bless her heart) doesn’t let that go to waste. There were times when I would pause the episode just to let what I saw sink in. I thought, “HOW CAN TWO PEOPLE LOOK THIS CUTE???” Some scenes were so kilig, I almost cried. Sure, it was defo fan service for all us thirsty, lonely hoes, however, it is duly appreciated. Many times I would finish an episode and just want a boyfriend because dammit, Lee Jong Suk. Some moments are a little cringe-y when you think long and hard about whether really people do that, but I’m not complaining. I’m perfectly fine with it.
Drama Factor: Like all good dramas should, the endings that W episodes go through crush my heart. Ultimately, it was just begging for a happy ending. I didn’t think that a sci-fi/rom-com plot was capable of making me upset but I guess that’s the charm of W; that even with loss, confusion, mystery, yearning, and all those painful adjectives, you still sit tight and grip the seat to watch it all unfold. For me, W has one of the best endings ever, a satisfying close, like a sigh of relief. To be honest, when I think about W nowadays, there’s this phantom ache in my chest just because there were scenes when I just thought, “The writer did THAT.” So word of warning, watch with detachment and if not, just be careful.
Creativity Factor: In the span of 16 episodes, W managed to scissor multiple plots and be stitched together and still not confuse the hell out of me. I think that is a plus for creativity. More often than I expected, W’s story line felt different each time a problem began. It’s an absolute roller coaster with a bunch of tropes that sometimes it felt like watching a whole other show. I personally enjoy that. It felt like an adventure, although exhausting at that. But sometimes, it does do something ridiculous that reminds you, this isn’t real anyways but I forgive that for entertainment’s sake.
Notes: Not entirely a stunning show, but a unique and imaginative one. No other drama has quite left the same impression W did with me. This was the drama I recommended the most to people. It was about creation and art as well so that appealed to me. I love the bits where Song Moo would be sketching and whatever he did started translating to reality. That must’ve been hard to shoot so I commend the director as well. W also felt quick to watch as the plot moved without dawdling too much. It was quite unrealistic and intense but still, incomparable. As for the romance, Yeon Joo and Chul = OTP.
Rating: 9/10 (when will my life become a drama???)

GOBLIN: THE LONELY AND GREAT GOD ( 쓸쓸하고 찬란하神-도깨비) From December 2016 - January 2017
Network: tvN
Number of episodes: 16
Cast: Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, Lee Dong Wook, Yoo In Na, Yook Sung Jae
Kilig Factor: At first, I seriously didn’t like them because of the age difference and it was little weird that Eun Tak called him “ahjussi.” Later on, I got used to it and as their love story progressed, the more I got tangled with it. I absolutely can’t forget the part when it would rain and Eun Tak would cry hysterically and she had no clue why. That was such a powerful and poignant scene for me. Gong Yoo and Kim Go Eun are incredible actors. They could convey such deep emotions from their characters and still retain parts of that when they become quirky. With the Sunny/Grim Reaper pairing, it felt a little dragging and draining by the end, to be honest. However, there’s this certain yearning I can’t remove that I want them to end up together. I think their relationship boosted Goblin/Eun Tak’s by showing a contrast. The kind of drama with romantic scenes that made me squeal out loud.
Drama Factor: I think there were only a few episodes I didn’t shed a tear over. The writing has this fragrant poetry structure to it that just appeals so much to a hopeless romantic like me. I know people don’t talk that way in real life but there’s just a beauty with a good string of words that can support an otherwise mediocre scene. Also, a very, very good cast. There was a lot of crying but it didn’t feel overwhelming (for me) because of how it was delivered. I think Goblin is a show I would watch if I ever doubted the supreme lightness love can bring after a dreadful storm.
OST Factor: Unforgettable. There’s a reason that Goblin’s is one of the most famous. The roster of performers in that OST is unbelievable. It’s so well chosen, especially once it’s edited as the background for a certain scene. There’s also so much to choose from that the songs post-Goblin binge watching don’t feel sickening; more nostalgic than anything. The OST by itself captures the sweet sadness of Goblin’s story and that’s a pretty good feat for a musical score to achieve.
Notes: Goblin was the very first Korean drama that I’ve watched properly and voluntarily. I was just really curious at first but then the cinematography, the music, the acting of this show absolutely blew me away. I think I cried majority of the time because I couldn’t believe I was watching such a well written show with representation of people who looked like me! (Asians!!!) I think that like the show’s theme of first love for the 900 year old Goblin, this was the perfect drama to show me how great K-dramas have become, and maybe I’m being eye roll worthy but it felt a little like finding a first love. I have nothing but fondness over Goblin and its clever story full of fate and twists and childlike innocence amidst the dark past they all share. And loneliness is something that is so palpable to me and seeing it suited up like this, made my heart clench and have hope. It’s wonderful like that.
Rating: 15/10. Just watch it. It’s worth your time.

REPLY 1988 ( 응답하라 1988) From November 2015 - January 2016
Network: tvN
Number of episodes: 20
Cast: Hyeri, Ryoo Joon Yeol, Go Kyung Pyo, Park Bo Gum, Lee Dong Hwi, Sung Dong Il, Lee Il Hwa, Ryoo Hye Young, Choi Sung Won, Kim Sung Kyun, Ra Mi Ran, Ahn Jae Hong, Kim Sun Young, Yoo Jae Myung, Choi Moo Sung, Kim Sul, Lee Min Ji, Lee Se Young
Kilig Factor: Of course I know most people don’t fall in love with their neighbors that often but this one is an exception. Romantic love wasn’t the main theme for this show however it still came through. And yes, I may be super biased when it comes to Park Bo Gum and Go Kyung Pyo and yes, them just smiling can get me riled up already BUT the love triangle presented towards the end is pretty decent and the falling-back-in-love trope with two characters is realistic and enjoyable enough. I’ve never seen a character demonstrate that kind of attitude (fiercely and stubbornly choosing their career over a relationship) before so it was quite interesting for me. There were little moments where they would reveal that this character actually liked this character, or did this for this character that would just have me punching a pillow, kicking, and screaming because dammit, that’s cute. I think it could have been better though, but as Reply 1988 isn’t solely focused on that, it’s good enough.
Drama Factor: Okay, compared to Reply 1988, my crying in Goblin was a dripping faucet. This show had me bursting like a waterfall. It was in all those moments that felt real, so, so real, I couldn’t help but weep. It was superb how Lee Woo Jeong wrote this show with tenderhearted conversations and the absolute unfairness of life that everybody can relate to and have such an awesome cast enact it in the messy times of the 80′s and translate into something a girl like me could deeply feel. Towards the end, I cried at every episode (there was always just something that hit me so much!) and it was the kind that would start as a sob and just progress then on. Inside Reply 1988 were lessons and experiences that everybody has felt or will feel or is trying to forget that universally is the same but in a different packaging. This show, to me, is the epitome of a Korean drama, unashamed and so emotional.
Food Factor: To be honest, there were far too many times Reply 1988 made me hungry. From clams to ramyun to kimchi pancakes to fish-shaped bread, they ate everything. I do appreciate it though because it exposed what Korean culture is like and how families have a good meal with each other as an act of love. I find the putting-meat/egg/vegetable/whatever-into-someone’s-bowl gesture as a unique and simple way of saying you favor someone. I also saw how important food is with the plot because as they go through changes, their food changed! When they were poor, they complained about side dishes. When they got older, the food they ate became different. When something good happens, there’s a whole feast. When watching this show, beware of the scrumptious dishes. I’m still looking for tteokbokki these days.
Notes: First of all, the set design team is amazing. I didn’t feel the whole Ssamundong late 80′s vibe at first but then it felt a little like home after so many hours of looking at it. There’s a lot of things I want to complain about this show, especially how it didn’t resolve properly. There were so many things left hanging! So many relationships unexplored! So many people’s endings swept aside! I didn’t feel like it got the ending it deserved. However, this was such a heartwarming drama. I haven’t seen such a raw presentation of this kind of suburban city life anywhere and it was familiar to me. I also loved how in an episode, things will happen and at the end, there was actually one unifying theme for all of that. I can say nothing more about Reply 1988 other than it did feel like I was growing up with these kids and I was part of their rag-tag bundle of troublemakers. That’s the most important part, I think, to have your audience feel like they were a part of it all. It means art has done its job well.
Rating: 7/10. A little disappointing but still great.
(this took me forever to make but it was fun. i might make a part two. maybe...)

I was tagged by @minhyowon for the ten questions, ten dramas thing! So let’s see here...
1. Do you ever get second lead syndrome? If so, who is the second lead that you felt for the most, that you loved way more than the lead? Who is the second lead that deserved a better ending?
Sometimes, though very rarely, only two or three times in my kdrama watching experience. Heirs’ Choi Young Do was far and away the second lead I had it worst for. I’ve spent a significant amount of my time rewriting the story so he gets the girl. Sungkyunkwan Scandal’s Moon Jae Shin is probably second. And the one whose ending I yearn to go shake the writers over was Prince Yang Myung’s, from The Moon that Embraces the Sun. Just. What?
2. What book/movie would you like to see adapted into a kdrama? Who would you cast as the leads?
Practical Magic! Can you imagine how much fun that would be in a (well-written/directed/acted) drama? I see Gong Hyo Jin playing Sally Owens, with Shin Mina as Gillian; Park Hae Jin as Jimmy Angelov (he does bad guy so well), and Jo In Sung as Gary Hallet; Kim Seo Hyung as Aunt Frances and Kim Mi Kyung as Aunt Jet (I know, they’re a bit young for these roles, but I love them too damn much).
3. Who are your top 3 kdrama OTPs?
Oh you ask the hard questions. If I had to pick--
1. Healer--Seo Jung Hoo and Chae Young Shin were just...so...perfect. They had all the cute fluff going for them, sure, but they also had deeper connections built on similar interests, needs and desires. They supported and admired each other. They were friends. They were heroes. And every glimpse we got into their past made me love their connection in the present more. If ever a couple was meant to be, it was this one.
2. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo--Kim Bok Joo and Jung Joon Hyeong. Was it the fact the couple were actually dating in real life that made their every interaction feel so sincere? It was just such a natural unfolding of young love, and before I knew it I swept up into their starry eyed little romance with a fluttering heart of my own.
3. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon--Ahn Min Hyuk and Do Bong Soon. I didn’t care for this drama, but despite my distaste for most of the ‘plot’, the main couple left me giddily grinning every second they were on screen. Min Hyuk’s open adoration for his peanut-sized King Kong was intoxicating, and I could watch Bong Soon carry him bridal style all day.
Plus, a lot of others, because this is a list that could on and on forever.
4. What is your favourite kdrama trope? Name your favourite drama with that trope.
Oh God. There are so many tropes. Can’t think...maybe the childhood meet-cute? And if I’m going with that one, then Gaksital, which used it to absolutely devastating effect.
5. Does the OST influence your enjoyment of a drama? Are there any dramas that you’ve watched because of the OST?
I do love a good ost, and it frequently influences how I feel about the drama--Coffee Prince and It’s Okay, It’s Love...and Weightlifting Fairy and Age of Youth actually now that I think about it...had some of the best ost’s I’ve heard and they certainly increased my enjoyment. But I’ve never picked up a drama solely because of the soundtrack.
6. Who is your bias and who is your bias ruiner?
I’ve never actually understood what these mean...does it mean favorite actors based solely on looks? Because then I’d probably have to admit to Lee Jong Suk and Kim Woo Bin.
7. What is a drama that you think everyone should watch? (An essential drama for every kdrama lover.)
The one that absolutely everyone will answer with--Coffee Prince, of course! It’s the quintessential kdrama classic, with enough heart and soul to get anyone addicted. If I was writing a kdrama curriculum, it would be first on the list.
8. Who are your top 3 female leads?
Kim Seul Gi, Lee Bo Young, Seo Hyun Jin.
9. Create your own love team. (A pairing that you would like to see in everything, or a couple that you would like to see reunited.)
Can I please just get Kim Woo Bin and Park Shin Hye in a drama so I can put my lingering Heirs’ rage to bed?
10. Pick an actor and an actress that you would like to see as the leads in a drama? (Your dream pairing, they’ve never worked together before but you think they would be great together.
Ohh, interesting. Hm. I admit, I have a yearning for a rom-com starring Park Bo Gum and Park Bo Young. Tell me that wouldn’t be the cutest noona romance ever.
Right, who do I tag? @wyndrider @lavenderbyun @outside-seoul @toquegirl @andtheyfightcrime @theheadandthemusic @iamtheschwalrus @nemisongbird your questions are:
1. What three elements does a drama have to have to keep you watching through til the end?
2. Trope that makes you want to bang your head against a wall?
3. Absolute favorite, comfort food drama?
4. What’s an ending you yearn to rewrite?
5. (Recycling a question here because I like it so much) Top 3 drama OTPs?
6. Recent OST song you’ve had on repeat?
7. What would be a dream drama plot for you? Who would star in it?
8. The most recent drama you dropped? Why?
9. How did you get into kdramas in the first place?
10. Finally, how do you think they’ve impacted your life? Positively? Negatively? In what way?
