The original Tron is of course probably best known for its groundbreaking CG special effects. But one thing I really love about it is that it uses many different kinds of visual effects, old and new. There is of course the wonderful "backlit animation", but also physical props, traditional cell animation, and most importantly, possibly my favorite matte painting of all time:
For those who don't know, that whole office in the background, beyond the nearest cubicles, is a matte painting. The reason I love it so much is because matte paintings are usually used to depict fantastical elements or stunning vistas; fantasy castles, mysterious islands, treetop villages, futuristic cities. But here it's used for something utterly mundane, just to show that ENCOM is a big company with lots of workers in little cubicles. It might even be intended as a subtle commentary about the nightmarish aspects of modern office landscapes, looking like an endless labyrinth stretching off into the distance. In any case, I also like it because even though Tron is a film with cutting edge visual effects, it still manages to use one of oldest techniques in film history, to great effect.

Star trek episode 'the naked time' and the movie 'the thing' (1982) have a very similar plot and vibes actually.

Watching Annie (1982) and I honestly have no idea how Mr Warbucks got to be where he is. He pretends to be all hardass, but the minute Annie or Grace ask him for anything he folds like a fucking lawn chair! He is So Weak to the women in his life it's Absurb! Certified wife guy.

This is so Rinzler/Yori to me. “I know I’m searching for you/someone and the reason has been lost to me but I’m incomplete without you, why won’t you answer?”
It’s even better as apparently this is a rock opera/story based album to do with mindcontrol? Hello?
It also fits so thematically with my definitive Tron/Yori song (modern love is automatic) as part two after everything that happened. Mwah. Point is I’m never not thinking about them
