My Saturday Call of Cthulhu game came to a conclusion (50% survival rate!) so we're swapping game hosts and my partner is gonna run a short prewritten d&d 5e adventure. The Fiend of Hollowmine from Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel. It's a level 4 adventure inspired by the rural Mexican west and dia de los muertes.
So, death holiday, and fiend in the title. My first thought is to play a cleric or a paladin. I've played a ton of clerics over the years so during our session zero I start building a pali.
I'm chatting with the other players and. The rest of the party is a bard, a rogue, a druid, and a monk. Everyone is dumping int.
So I'm going to be playing a wizard. He's a goblin named Mutchkin.

Dice palette for Mutchkin, my new goblin wizard!
Tumblr media
All of these dice are from Dice Envy subscription, various kickstarters, or the comic book shop in Phoenix AZ by the gay Dennys I went to in '02 and '03 when I first got into playing d&d.
Meaning behind the choices and specific sources for all the dice under the cut
The resin dice with metal edges (arcane anomalies kickstarter by Modern Artifice) represent his life in a gilded cage under his captor/mentor the princess Curian, heir to the throne of Barduin.
The stripey blue and brown "stone" set (dice envy subscription) represents Barduin, the elven rules city-state where Mutch was born and raised. It's built on an island in the middle of a river, and both its foundation and its society is heavily stratified.
The mottled greenish yellow set (dice envy subscription) represents his status, nature, and heritage as a goblin in a world that considers goblins as less than.
The black and gold set (dice envy subscription) represent his wizardry and the mind of someone who excels at this kind of magic. The repeated circle motif also calls to his specialty as an abjurer, and the barriers he creates to protect himself and others.
The singleton d6 with black glitter (from the shop in AZ) is one of the first dice I ever bought and also one of my favorites. It represents that you need not be flashy or shiny to be beloved or worthy of love.
The single swirly pale green d8 and d12 (crystal caste jade silk from the shop in AZ) represent his love of beauty and of jewelry making. It also represents the fact that sometimes things that look humble actually have great value.
The spell book d2 (polyhero dice Kickstarter) is a spell book
