«I didn't have an iPod for the longest time, I don't know, I just couldn't get one. So I would just record, I had a little cellphone so my mom could like, call me when I was home from school before she was home from work, and I would just hold it up to the CD player in my room, and make little 30 seconds clips of my favorite parts of songs, and then listen to them on the bus, out loud from the speaker on my phone. Welcome to… I was such… [laughs] It is not surprising to me at all that I had very few friends in middle school.»

now there are songs on my playlist that take me back to your bedroom instantly. it feels like a scene from a movie with a montage song, when the couple is finally together and sharing cute intimate moments. this is post the talking stage, this is the cringe cute stage. can't get enough of each other, experiencing each other for the very first time. your hands on my face, my legs around you. kisses planted on the forehead, switching positions, laughing. jokes about — wow, have you paid attention to the lyrics ever? that's like a situationship playlist. laughing, looking at each other knowing that this thing that we have is anything but a situationship scene.
shall I change the playlist?
no, come here.
what do I do now? what do I do with these songs? what do I do with these memories of you? I'm not one to mind cherishing memories of people no longer in my life — in fact, I do it very well. I keep them in mint condition for decades with no intention of selling them at any point. but our memories? it's one of the first times I am having trouble cherishing such sweet moments.
I know you wish me ill. that too is new for me. what did I ever do so wrong to you other than be myself and not melt and mold my existence into the me you wanted to love and keep?
no matter how much you hate me, I wish you well. no matter, I'll continue being me.

Raised on Radio
An old friend spoke about concerts we saw growing up and how music then still lived in what I call regional popularity pockets. In the 60’s I surely heard music that Carolinians called Beach Music , but I didn't know it as such.
But more than regional genre names, I am writing about the bands. Seems in the 70’s-80’s each decent size city had “their” band. For us, it was Springsteen. Make no mistake he was selling out college auditoriums when the Beautiful People were begging Mark Beneke to let them into 54. Bruce was too ‘Jersey’, too Bridge & Tunnel crowd. I get it. Just don't try to claim him now. Springsteen was huge in Philadelphia and for some reason, in Phoenix.
Similarly prog bands. Philly loved prog rock; Yes, ELP, and Genesis sold out multiple nights at our ice arena when sales were slim elsewhere.
Little Feat were time loved heroes in Baltimore and Washington and pretty much nowhere else.
Boston had the J. Geils Band. They woulda been the Stones if they coulda written a decent song on their own. As it was, they were the best live act of the post STP Tour 1970’s and I will fight any man who disagrees.
Pittsburgh had the Iron City House Rockers. Ohio had Michael Stanley, and other rocking bands who never completely broke through. DEVO doesn't really count. The Bob Seger System came from Detroit and hard working Bob broke through.
I also remember the astounding 1980’s success of Depeche Mode in Los Angeles- and Salt Lake City. D’mode sold about 2,000 tickets in Nashville and then sold out the 70,000 seat Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Was this the power of radio playlists? Payola? Something else? I went to LA a few times in the 80’s and KROQ was all Depeche , all the time.
How about your town? If you were listening in the 70’s and 80’s, who were the local heroes who never broke through? Who were the national acts that were strangely popular in your city and unknown elsewhere?
Drop a comment, wouldya?

Remembering the Magic of Cassette Tapes
Do you remember the days when music was something you could hold in your hands? When you had to rewind and fast forward to find your favorite song? When mixtapes were a labor of love, carefully crafted to express your deepest emotions?
For many of us, the cassette tape holds a special place in our hearts. It was the soundtrack to our lives, the way we discovered new music and shared our favorite songs with friends. We spent hours poring over liner notes and lyrics, memorizing every word and every beat.
In this image, we see a vintage cassette tape, a relic of a bygone era. It's a reminder of the magic and nostalgia that comes with listening to music the old-fashioned way. It's a reminder of the way things used to be, when music was more than just a digital file on a screen.
So let's take a moment to remember the joy and wonder of cassette tapes. Let's celebrate the way they brought us together, and the memories they helped us create. And let's keep their spirit alive, even as we embrace new ways of listening to music.

Trucks and road at the evening. Black Sabbath -TYR.
Tumblr media
So, in July I was listening a disk Black Sabbath – TYR. Tony Iommi, is there, guitar. And singer Tony Martin. So, how cool, they do a rock music, they cool with writing music style of 80s. The same rock, I like the most! Excellent rock 80s!
Tumblr media
I was listening, while was on the road from countryside. Including a time, when it is, already, getting dark, if to go home late. And, I think about a – what is good for this music. What can goes good to this tracks as visual? Album is cool! 80s! Rock! Heavy metal! And, I decide, that during the road, a trucks are suits well! So, this is visual line.
Album is so cool! Good rock! So, I am a big fan of this sound! As I can say, it is so sad point, that 80s are goes to its end. Album sounds like a little tragical, not, not like this, it is charismatic, energetical. And there is a place for lyrical part and rock features. Excellent chorus, excellent guitars.
Tumblr media
Personally me, I more and more like era with Tony Martin with the vocal. Tony Iommi and Tony Martin -musicians duet. In terms of Black Sabbath. They do a cool music! For some reason, these their art, it was in a shadows for me. So, I discover it for myself. This disk and Headless Cross, I listened before. But, this summer, I dive into TYR, again. I listened it in a car. It is like thoughts, thoughtful episodes. Heavy. And road is going on. Evening after a countryside.
Such a vocal and guitar turns it have!
Tumblr media
So, first three songs - they are strong at once. Such a style 80s out of them. And, I also was watching concerts in internet. Not exactly, from tout TYR. And with Tony Martin at vocal. I don’t remember a year. But, it was a concert in Olimpiyskiy or place like that in 1989 year. So, this concert I watched, I remember. Good example of rock music 80s.
Battle of TYR is so synthesized thing, as I hear it! Synthesizers, also, my theme of interest! So wonderful and sorcery kind. Epic in some moments. Rock music, it is anyways a rock music, so this is intro purpose. For something else fragments it will be further, something like that again. Just like it is made for some opera.
Tumblr media
Later, next is goes Odin`s Court. It is not heavy, but absolutely stylish song. Tony Martin sings cool there. Guitar is so cool. As it is like something Blackmore. But Blackmore - it is another thing. Here Tony Iommi is playing. It is very spectacular. And it like shows, predicts a future. Before the storm, something like that.
And, it is, also, a special moment, some joke like for me. Cause this song, as a fact, goes into next track at once – Valhalla is next track. I am, u know, when I don’t listen it for a long time, I start to think. I start to shake and feel little confusion. That it is something wrong with these songs. Because of, first song goes very fast and it interrupts very fast at one moment. Just like it interrupts somewhere in the middle of the track, and you lost data, or broken data. Some funny thing for me!
Tumblr media
But, next it is goes a main track, of this segment, Valhalla. So here it is a heavy metal. Rock 80s. With good chorus and rhythm guitars. Something like that you can find at Yngwie Malmsteen music.
Later, next one is goes a ballad. Feels good to me. And it is a curtain falls for a cd. Coolest songs it have, this cd. Rock. Heavy metal. 80s. It is good example of a good sound. Heaven in Black. They play and sound, as it should to be! Ensemble! They play very cool, of course!
Tumblr media
Music listener. From time to time i like to listen to the music. And write about it. Dima Link is making retro videogames, apps, a little of music, write stories, and some retro more.

the funniest thing happened at practice yesterday (orchestra)
me and my friend: *sitting there, violining away, happy to have the melody for once, even if we have to share it with the first violins*
my friend: *keeps ignoring accidentals*
conductor: *sighs, taking arms down, scowling at the music sheets to intimidate them*
me: *points at accidentals, looking at my friend intensely*
conductor (barely audible): it’s B flat for gods sake (then, very loudly) who in the violins keeps playing B?
violins 2: *intimidated avoiding eye contact*
my friend (whispering to me): I don’t get it
girl behind us: guess you’re just not that sharp
me: *bites lip to not laugh too loud*
my friend: *does the same*
*stifled giggles from harpist and percussionist* *whispering between the trumpets*
*stifled giggles and whispering from the flutes*
bassist, bassoonist (almost in sync, very loudly): I don’t get it
celli: *loud laughing*
my crush (also a cellist): *tries not to laugh but fails horribly, looks at me*
me: *stares back, blushing because she acknowledges my existence*
conductor (confused): what’s so funny?
me (whispering): nothing, just a very flat joke
girl behind me: nice
conductor: *chuckles awkwardly before going back to the usual one-week-pre-concert persona* we’ll take that again, from the top- don’t you roll your eyes at me, [crush’s name]

one of the few things i like about streaming services for music is being able to easily find bits of music you heard as a child and actually being able to just hear them again

Yeah I think The Wall being the best for him is down to personal memories. He was like 13-14 when it came out, that's the age he was getting really passionate about music and started to properly learn the guitar. But we also know he didn't have the best of times as a kid/teenager. And he always mentions how he used to listen to it from start to finish alone in his room.
I would guess most of us tend to view the albums of our childhood or adolescence through a nostalgic lens. Even as an adult, you can't be objective about an album or band you've discovered that's had a significant impact on you, especially if it got you through a hard time - or a good time. That's the wonderful thing about music. It reminds us of very specific times in our lives.
People talk about nostalgia like it's a bad thing or a bit overrated but nostalgia is everything. Nostalgia is life. That's our memories, our history that we're looking back on. And why shouldn't we? Our memories help shape us, for better or worse. It makes sense that the older we get, the more nostalgic we become because we've lived more life, we've collected more memories, we've been shaped a little more.
I guess for music enthusiasts music is not simply intertwined with our past experiences, music is the experience. So I can fully relate to Noel gushing to David Gilmour about The Wall. I'd be a blithering idiot to Noel about What's The Story Morning Glory. lol

I woke up on a couch the night before I was set to leave on the biggest trip of my life to date to find my roommates had left the TV on and this music video was playing.
youtube
It's stuck with me ever since, always bringing back that feeling of waking on the precipice of a grand adventure. The memory so vivid sometimes I feel that if I blink I'll realize I'm still lying on that couch under a TARDIS flannel blanket, my loyal old suitcase Paul nearby on the brown shag carpet ready to roll.

worried that thing you put in your art or writing or game or music is too self-indulgent, too self-referential, too niche for anyone but yourself? fear not! you can do whatever you want forever. and you should.

Severed Connections...
I envision us in our youth
Belting offkey to Taylor Swift
Stories we've yet to experience
Verses of young love and heartbreak
We're dancing poorly to our favorite songs
Around your room
Time has overturned
The memories in my head
I still listen to Taylor Swift
Singing offkey and dancing poorly
Alone
In my room
Does nostalgia hit you out of the blue?
Do the memories hurt you too?
Despite the bridges we burned
In hopes of being free
From the burning house we grew up in?
