Don't know the UK, but is there really a market for it? I have never heard of it being used recreationally for decades - I think maybe even 1970s. I think I remember reading about it in American in old books on hallucinogens and LSD, but that was about the 60s. I'm not so worried about cannabis, it is relatively safe, and when they say traces, do they mean the chocolate wouldn't have been strong or? I'd be more worried about contaminants if it was illegal cannabis - some of the stuff they use to make it is nasty, plus the police here used to spray poison on it, and then people would use it and the government would just go "this is why you shouldn't use cannabis". Just seems like an odd thing to do. I very much doubt kids would have enough money to justify cannabis-imbued chocolate bars, even if they wanted them. I don't know what the price is now but I used to work with a guy from the UK who smoked it, and he said cannabis used to be cheap there, but by the 90s, it was definitely too expensive for most, which is why they all moved to other drugs.

Tests have revealed chocolate bars that left customers ill at a Christmas market in Mansfield contained traces of hallucinogenic drugs, police have confirmed.

Nottinghamshire Police launched an investigation after people fell ill after eating chocolate sold at a market stall in Mansfield last week.

A 63-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and has been released on bail.

Chief Inspector Chris Sutcliffe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “An investigation is in the process of being carried out after multiple people reported falling ill after consuming chocolate purchased in Mansfield last weekend.

“Forensic testing has been carried out of the chocolate recovered by police, with the majority showing no traces of drugs or anything out of the ordinary.

“Quantities of the hallucinogenic drug Psilocin and THC – a substance found in cannabis – were discovered in a small number of the bars, however.

“It is really important that anyone who still has any of this chocolate hands it into the police immediately so that it can be further analysed.”

“A 63-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and is currently assisting police with our ongoing inquiries after being released on bail.

Tina Potter, Head of Incidents, Food Standards Agency said: “We are working with local authorities, the UK Health Security Agency and Nottinghamshire Police to investigate an incident following reports of illness after eating chocolate bought from Mansfield Market in Nottinghamshire.

“The chocolate was both labelled as ‘Cali-Gold’ and unbranded.

“If you have purchased chocolate matching this description, it should not be consumed but instead handed in to the police.

gluten & dairy intolerant and sick as shit: a “what the fuck do i eat?” primer

most gluten-free, dairy-free (hereafter abbreviated gf/df) recipe sites are so clearly written by people who have the energy to cook - consistently enough that they don’t need to worry about food spoiling - and money for tons of ingredients and equipment. as a person who’s bedridden a large portion of the time, this is useless as shit!

so here’s how i’ve kept myself alive the past 6+ months for other sick folks looking for a realistic starting point, in descending order from least to most energy required. in addition to being gf/df, i can’t eat raw vegetables or red meat, need to avoid/minimize seeds and artificial sweeteners, and try to minimize soy when possible, so these suggestions align with that.

as always, check the labels first! other folks feel free to add on with any suggestions!

gf cereal - chocolate gf off-brand rice krispies are a go-to low-energy meal that can also be a snack

bananas with peanut butter

rice cakes are my best friend - they’re like 4x cheaper than gf bread and the easiest option i’ve found so far. my go-to is rice cake, vegan cheese, 4 slices of deli chicken, a pinch of salt; 4 of those makes a filling meal for me

gf toast with peanut butter or butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar

gf oatmeal in the microwave, seasoned with brown sugar and cinnamon. if you need to avoid cross-contamination, make sure to only purchase oat products that are certified gluten-free; they can easily get cross-contaminated from wheat in the field

tofu scramble - season with curry powder, garlic and onion powder, chili powder, and salt. add whatever veggies you want - i do (frozen or canned) spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes

gf chicken nuggets - if i have a little extra energy i’ll make a vegan ranch using a vegan mayo base

gf/df pizza - they’re expensive. i’m sorry.

gf/df nachos - vegan mince with gf taco seasoning, olives, vegan cheese, corn tortillas chips. for a lower-energy version, i melt vegan cheese on tortilla chips in the microwave and add torn-up deli chicken and seasoning

frozen gf fries - plain or with vegan cheese sauce, vegan cheese, and/or vegan mince (seasoned with garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, and salt)

rice with ingredient - canned beans and/or peas; canned tuna cooked with curry powder; frozen edamame and canned salmon cooked with gf (tamari) soy sauce, honey, and chili powder

fish tacos - frozen fish cooked with cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, pepper; cilantro-lime rice; avocado if you’re up for peeling/cutting; vegan cheese; corn tortillas

snacks

Omg so I have to tell you this dumb story first, I wanted to send you an ask so I went to tumblr search but it didn't find you and I got all grumpy like 'stoopid tumblr search 😠😠😠' and then I realised I had typed 'Leah' into the search bar like it knows who you are 🤦‍♀️ I am the dumbest person on the planet.

Anyway! This ask has no function except to tell you I think you're awesome and deserve to be told you're awesome, and also now to tell you that story about how I'm an idiot.

But to ask an actual question...you're designing the grazing board for my Christmas Carols and Cocktails party, but can only include 10 separate items (so like, grapes are one item but you could have many grapes, not like, if you had 10 grapes we'd be done), what 10 items do you pick?! 😘

Howl, the amount of times I put my mutuals actual names into the search bar expecting it to find them for me… just know you are in good company in this instance. (Google, you know who I’m talking about just find them for me ok?!)

Now on to the best question I’ve ever received in my life (question Friday’s and Monday’s notwithstanding)

Gonna put this under a cut since it might get long and for people that don’t wanna see me ramble about food lmao

OK SO, first you have to decide if you’re doing a sweet or savory type of charcuterie board. I tend to lean towards savory cheese board with a hint of sweetness mixed in

Then, you wanna pick cheeses that are relatively different from each other so you have a nice, eclectic mix for everyone to pick from. My grocery store of choice for cheeses is Trader Joe’s, although a cursory glance at the UK informs me that you don’t have that there and could instead use Aldi’s

I mention Trader Joe’s specifically because they have a few of the cheeses I would include, such as:

Blueberry vanilla goat cheese

Triple Cream wild mushroom Brie

And

Caramelized onion cheddar cheese

And then one more regular, sharp aged cheddar for the boring people that don’t like flavors

So those are the four that are gonna dominate your cheese board and make everything delicious and amazing - you’ve got two hards, a semi soft, and a creamy cheese! Cut them up in long, slightly thick slices except for the Brie - put gashes in it so people can easily swipe chunks off of it

Next is additional accoutrements - (I typically don’t put meat on my boards because I don’t eat meat but if someone supplies it themselves I’ll stick it on there)

- Grapes, preferably red (break them off the stem so it’s easy for people to grab)

- Crackers - at least two different kinds

- Some kind of dip - I love sour cream and onion dip but this can be any easy to scoop dip that people like (can also use hummus!)

- Nuts preferably almond or pecans (you also can’t go wrong with chocolate covered ones too for a little bit of additional sweetness)

- Pretzels! Get the long, thin ones if you can - they look very pretty on the board

And there you mostly have it!

Honestly, the best way to make your board look good is to google ‘cheese board’, find one that has a board or one that you already own or could easily acquire, and then build it up! You can go sparse like a grazing board or fully packed like a real charcuterie board depending on how many people you’re planning to serve.

And yes, I took this WAY more seriously than I needed to but charcuterie boards are my heart and soul and I’m obsessed with them

D&D Character Ask Post

In Honor of D&D, Here are 100 Questions answered about my character Alistair. Done from a prompt reposted by @mechmech and @scatterpatter , and also gonna tag my DM @aerial-ace97

What Does He Smell like: Ozone, Sandalwood, Pine

Voice: A light baritone, sometimes slipping into a bit of a lit from his native island (similar to a Scottish brogue/Irish lit)

Motivator: Before he met his group? Power and Adrenaline. Now? Redemption.

Most embarrassing memory: (TW: Animal Death) He doesn’t really remember this as he was terribly drunk at the time, but he and his crew stopped in a city that held goats as a sacred animal. With a terribly “bright” idea, he wondered how far a goat could fly? Because goats fly. Throws the goat off of the third floor of a building. Then proceeds to have a not very respectful Coffin Dance-style funeral for said goat.

How does he react to pain: Lots of swearing and anger.

What does he wear: He wears dragon scale armor that has three deep gouges in it from where he was previously killed. A faded and slightly ragged admiral style coat on top, leather breeches, and give this man some high calf pirate boots. He also always wears a green headband to keep his hair back, and occasionally an eyepatch to hide his demonic eye.

Most positive relationship: In terms of character development, it might be Torvid, as Torvid inspires Alistair to be a better moral person. In terms of wholesomeness? His partner/hopefully soon fiancé, Atwater. Atwater was able to show Alistair that he can have positive love in his life, without having to fight so hard for it.

The weirdest thing he has ever eaten: Corren’s cooking

Sleep: He suffers from nightmares and now more recently night terrors. Because he technically doesn’t need to sleep from effects of his class, he often chooses not to. However, when he does sleep, he sleeps hard, snores lightly, and octopus cuddles anything in his bed.

Favorite food/ kinda food: He actually really loves a dish similar to pao de queijo (Brazillian Cheese Bread).

Most insecure about: His ability of being a leader.

Like to wear: He enjoys fairly tight fitting clothing to prevent too much flapping when he flies or moves around quickly.

How do they react to feelings of guilt: Denial and self doubt

React to betrayal: A very quick and violent anger that chills to a long lasting and cold hatred. He doesn’t forgive easily.

Greatest achievement: After being mutinied against by his former crew, being wanted and supported as a leader for his current adventuring party

Too little sleep: Pretty robotic, but he doesn’t get exhausted anymore or feel any physical effects of not getting sleep due to his class.

What are they like drunk: He’s a very cheerful and boisterous drunk. Makes and laughs at many jokes. Can fall into a melancholy pretty easily though if he thinks on certain thoughts too long. Deflects with humor!

Music likes: 80s hair band music, and 70s-80s rock.

Right or left-handed: Right handed

Fears: He’s claustrophobic, but also has a fear of being vulnerable and getting his heart broken again.

Favorite weather: Sunny Day with a slight chill.

Favorite color: He really likes blue.

Collect anything: Well technically he used to collect gold and other high priced artifacts. He doesn’t really collect anything anymore.

Hot or cold weather: This man controls the weather. He enjoys his thermostat of life to be at a nice 70 degrees F.

Eye color: His natural eye color is an emerald green. His left eye is a demon cat eye, with a gold iris and black sclera.

Race/ ethnicity: He’s a human in the world of Sekrezia, but in IRL, he’s probably northern UK.

Hair color: Ginger/Auburn, with some sun-bleached streaks in it.

Happy where they are currently: … Well his adopted sister and brother just died in the last game so nah. BUT- as kind of a whole, he’s happy to be where he is now as a person compared to how he used to be.

Morning person: Yup. He tends to wake with the sun if he sleeps, and once he’s awake- he’s awake.

Sunrise or sunset: He loves the sunset. It calms and amazes him that he survived another day.

Messy or organized: He’s messy. Kind of an ADHD procrastination kind of messy.

Pet peeves: Disloyalty, undeserved ego trips, other weather veins that mess with his control of the weather,

Objects of significant importance: O’Malley, his halberd. He earned his weapon when he became a captain, and it has saved his life numerous times after.

Least favorite food: After being stuck in a cave for over a year? Anything with mushrooms.

Least favorite color: He’s not a fan of dark reds or browns. Reminds him too much of dried blood. (oooh edgelord)

Least favorite smell: Cauterized Flesh, Rotting Fish

The last time they cried: Last game. But before that? When he found out that Torvid killed his father. Before before that? When Atwater died. Before before before that? When he woke up alone in the desert after the mutiny.

Were they with anyone when they cried: His party. His party and both sides of the war that was going on. And no one.

One time they got injured: He actually died in a fight with a dragon, not with the dragon, but with a bat crony of the dragon.

Scars: He’s got a scar in the shape of a jagged p on his right cheek, a claw scar from when his eye was gouged out, and he also has the marks from the bat crony when he died. Alistair also has lightning scars on his arms that led to minor nerve damage that occurred when he first was learning how to use his magic.

Mental health issues: ADHD, Depression, Anxiety

Bad habits: Lashing out when he doesn’t know how to process his emotions

Why might someone dislike him: … Lemme get the list. So if we ignore the fact that he used to be a feared sky pirate, earning the nickname “Orphaner of the Skies”… he can be a flippant asshole sometimes. He can often forget to stay in touch and update people on important topics. Also, some may dislike him because he insists on being their dad (*cough* CORREN *cough*)

Why might someone love him: Alistair is very loyal to those he trusts and he can often fall into caretaker type tendencies.

Believe in ghosts: Yeah. He’s seen them and fought them. Also dated one.

Anyone they would trust with their life: Mecha, Corren, Tristan, Atwater, Jerry, Mephistopheles, and Torvid.

Romantically interested in anyone: Atwater!

Dating/ Married: He is currently dating Atwater

Celebrate their birthday: He used to. Doesn’t really anymore, mostly because he hasn’t had much reason to celebrate or the time.

Atwater is his romantic partner, and he is now the step father of Atwater’s child, Crestwell. He also is the adopted father of Liam (deceased) and Liam’s twin sister, Serana.

1. What is the color of your hairbrush? - Black.

2. Name a food you never eat - Mushrooms. Gross.

3. Are you typically too warm or too cold? - I feel the temperature really badly either way. I can get very cold but the heat really affects me and I get too hot quickly so I’d probably say the warmth.

4. What were you doing 45 minutes ago? - Was in work.

5. What’s your favorite candy bar? - Dairy Milk or Galaxy.

6. Have you ever been to a professional sports game? - Yes, I’m not a sports person at all but when I went to San Diego I went to a baseball game, mostly to see what it was all about as I was travelling across USA at the time.

7. What is the last thing you said out loud? - I can’t even remember, probably signing to my music, I’ve been trying to get through a list in work and put my headphones in to get on with it.

8. What is your favourite ice cream? - One of my favourites is Bacio, which is like chocolate and hazelnuts and I had it pretty much every day when I was Italy.

9. What was the last thing you had to drink? - Water

10. Do you like your wallet? - Yes. I bought a new one recently.

11. What is the last thing you ate? - A vegan chocolate orange coated almond. I bought them earlier as I was intrigued and they’re pretty good.

12. Did you buy any new clothes last weekend? - Yes, online. Wanted some boots and bought a shirt and a blazer too as I couldn’t stop myself.

13. What’s the last sporting event you watched? - Have literally no idea.

16. Ever been camping? - Yes. I’m a bit of a scaredy cat at times but I went camping in Canada where there were chances for bears and other wildlife to cross our path. On the first night I needed the toilet at 2am and I was so scared to leave the tent I sat crying for ages haha. I eventually had the courage to go out, otherwise I would have peed myself.

17. Do you take vitamins? - Yes, only because I’m a bit low in some things due to me being ill recently.

18. Do you regularly attend a place of worship? - No. 

19. Do you have a tan? - No,  I am pale AF.

20. Do you prefer chinese or pizza? - Pizza. I like Chinese food but the Chinese here is not healthy and has tons of MSG in it and I get sick from MSG so I can’t eat much of it.

21. Do you drink your soda through a straw? - I don’t drink soda but if I have it on the odd occasion, usually not. 

22. What color socks do you usually wear? - Black or white.

23. Do you ever drive above the speed limit? - I haven’t driven since I passed my test and I don’t have a car.

26. What chore do you hate most? - Literally everything. I hate cleaning. I’ve just had to defrost my freezer recently which is an absolute nightmare :| Apart from that hoovering (vacuuming) is pretty annoying.

28. What’s your favorite soda? - I don’t drink soda much but I do love a cherry Coke or Dr. Pepper.

29. Do you go in a fast food place or just hit the drive thru? - I can’t go through a drive through by myself anyway as I don’t have a car so I go inside.

31. Who’s the last person you talked to? - Either my mum or dad (EDIT -No, it would have been someone in work but can’t remember who).

1. What is the color of your hairbrush?

Just plain black. Nothing exciting unfortunately!

2. Name a food you never eat

Mushrooms, and at the moment, cheese. Damned dairy intolerance.

3. Are you typically too warm or too cold?

Both, but usually cold. My internal heating and cooling system is truly buggered, thanks to the fact that I was a premmie baby. Just one of the many fun side effects.

4. What were you doing 45 minutes ago?

Fannying about after having a shower. Every single day I do this and I don’t know why.

5. What’s your favorite candy bar?

CURRENTLY, it is the Galaxy Vegan caramelised hazelnut chocolate and oh my god it’s so good. A lot of vegan chocolate is really crumbly and whilst it tastes good, the texture is just off and that kind of ruins it for me. But Galaxy have really nailed the texture, it’s just creamy and good and just tastes and feels like real chocolate and I was honestly so happy the first time I tried it.

6. Have you ever been to professional sports event?

I have! I went to a few Scottish Premier League (football) games when I was younger, with my dad, before realising that I didn’t enjoy it much. I have also been to one singular hockey match, which really tells you everything you need to know about how I found that. Honestly I don’t really go in much for sports. I enjoy watching horse riding, show jumping and the like, and figure skating, and that’s about it.

7. What is the last thing you said out loud?

“WHAT ARE YOU EATING?!” To the doggo, who had just got a hold of the leftovers of my dad’s lunch.

8. What is your favorite ice cream?

Ben and Jerry’s do an ice cream that has vanilla on one side, and chocolate on the other, with a full ass BLOCK of caramel in the middle, and it is probably the unhealthiest thing I have ever consumed, but oh my god it’s so good.

9. What was the last thing you had to drink?

Tea! Please assume that I am always drinking tea, it is a fairly accurate assumption.

10. Do you like your wallet?

Eh. It’s okay. It’s getting a bit old but I’ve been putting off getting a new one.

One of those tiny little packets of haribo that are STILL somehow leftover from Halloween

I did! I bought a new top for work, a white jumper bc white goes with everything and I’m a bit lazy.

13. What’s the last sporting event you watched?

On purpose? The 2018 Winter Olympic Ice Dance final when Virtue/Moir FINALLY WON THE GOLD!!! It was on until like 3/4am, and I had 3 back to back lectures the next day, and I was SO TIRED, but oh it was worth it!! I think the mens individual final was on the next night but I FULLY fell asleep halfway through 😬

14. What is your favorite flavor of popcorn?

Sweet and salty!

15. Who is the last person you send text message to?

My sister! I was ranting about The Crown and she was just kind of listening haha

16. Ever been camping?

Twice! Both my guide troop. Once just cause, and once bc it was the Centenary of Girl Guiding in the UK and all of the troops in our county pitched up in a giant field for the weekend, which was good fun! Would I do it again? Maybe not. I’m not really that outdoorsy, but I will give anything a go once.

17. Do you take vitamins?

Nope! I probably should, but I swear every time I start taking vitamin C I get a cold. Not sure if this is just my immune system being weird or if I am actually cursed.

18. Do you regularly attend a place of workship?

Nope! I am very much agnostic. I used to live almost right across the road from a church, that was fun on a Sunday morning no need to set an alarm, and I used to walk past, I kid you not four or five on my way to work, which is a lot considering it was ALL ONE ROAD and a fairly short walk.

Nope! I’m so pale I reflect the sun back.

20. Do you prefer chinese or pizza?

Pizza!!! I miss it!!! Dairy free cheese suuuuuccckkksssss

Not really. I didn’t really before but I’m really not a fan of paper straws and them getting all soggy.

Literally every single colour. A lot of blue and navy but I’m not kidding, it is every colour.

I can’t drive so I can’t go over the speed limit haha

Oh well, what a fun question. So much. Ultimately failure. Failure to do anything worthwhile in my life, failure to help people, failure in my personal life. The list goes on. And heights. I am truly truly terrified of heights.

Sorting through odd socks. All black socks should be burned imo.

Neighbors. My mum loved Neighbors in its hayday, and it is always discussed when Kylie or Jason Donovan is on the telly haha.

Can’t drive so go in. My flatmate and I got really bad for ordering in McDonalds last year after it got put on Uber eats. She was a terrible influence on me I swear.

Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell. Such a beautifully written book. Very casually magical and oh so very sad.

Tuesday, but I couldn’t tell you why.

Absolutely not.

37. How do you like your coffee?

I don’t like coffee. I like the smell but it is far too bitter for me and the caffeine makes me feel truly awful.

I have a pair of brown boots that are almost victorian in style, they lace up, and made of the softest leather and I love them to utter pieces.

39. Time you normally get up?

On a normal day, usually any time after 10am. I like my bed and I don’t go to sleep until quite late. When I’m working, it’s usually between half past 6 and 9am.

40. What do you prefer, sunrise or sunset?

Sunset. I am very much a night owl.

41. How many blankets on your bed?

At the moment I just have my big thick duvet which keeps me very cosy and I never want to get out of my cosy bed, but I FULLY expect that to increase as it gets colder bc I am a cold creature.

44. Do you have a favorite alcoholic drink?

Oooh, I like a Bacardi and coke or a gin and lemonade (which according to my gin and tonic loving mother is a sacreligous thing to do to gin). I don’t drink a whole lot, but those are my two go tos.

I can play cards, but I don’t do it on the regular.

Don’t have a car!

Nope!

Don’t really have that here, so I’m gonna be a bit cheeky and say Perthshire 😉. It really is beautiful though!!

49. Favorite job you’ve had?

My current job! It’s just a clothes shop retail job, but the company is so good (which is rare for a big company), the people are so lovely, the hours can suck sometimes, but I enjoy it so much more than waitressing and bar work!
