Museum Buurt Spoorweg zette haar historische treinen in de schijnwerpers. Een unieke kans om deze stalen reuzen in een magisch avondlicht te bewonderen. Mis je de volgende niet, want dit was echt een spoor-taculair schouwspel!

Last 2 weeks I had a whirlwind visit to Rotterdam to visit my sis ... Activities included #museumnacht where arts places opened their doors for the evening to the throngs ... At @printroom_rtm they had a table where you could assemble a mini-sketchbook with discarded risograph paper ... I proceeded to collage the hell out of my little book (samples included ... btw 'kunst' means 'art' in Dutch) Also a shoutout to some of the most amazing underground/under-river bike tunnels ... #bikedreams More posts soon #rotterdamcity #rotterdam #rotterdambikelife #museumnachtrotterdam #kunst #nieuwdepot #brutusrotterdam #netherlands #collage #art #biketunnel #waterintowine #olddutch https://www.instagram.com/p/CpvqeZrv6eX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A month ago I went to Amsterdam and visited all the filming locations for Ted Lasso‘s „Sunflowers“, so I figured I‘ll finally put something together here.
First of all, basically all the scenes involving the majority of the Richmond himbos were not shot on location - their epic discussion followed by pillow fight was filmed in an abandoned hotel in London. (Info per David Elsendoorn). The same would go for Ted & Beard‘s room. Scenes on the bus or outside it were also filmed in Richmond.
Tumblr media
The only Greyhound who doesn‘t have his own larger plotline in the episode who was actually in Amsterdam was David Elsendoorn, because they did film the first scenes at Johan Cruijff (you know how to pronounce it now!) ArenA, the home of Ajax Amsterdam (which is also the one place I didn‘t have time to visit). They could have easily filmed that in London in a different stadium but I guess they didn‘t want to pass up the opportunity - and give David something to do on his home turf.
Edit: I visited 3 months later, so here‘s some pics from the ArenA, I couldn‘t find out which hallway they used/dressed up for the press interviews, but here‘s some shots from the stadium and the VIP lounge we see at the beginning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, first up is Roy & Jamie‘s adventure: Jamie takes him sightseeing against his will, and the first place they stop on is Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). (They run up the street to that before.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edit thanks to @warriorhoneybee: Roy grabs Jamie’s wrist at Diamond Factory on Rokin and then tells him he can‘t ride a bike outside Lyppens Jeweler at Langebruugsteg.
They go around the corner to Oude Turfmarkt (which is what I took a picture of) for Jamie to teach him how. For Grandad!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fucking windmill they see before they lovingly gaze into each other’s eyes is De Riekermolen at the Southern end of Amstelpark, where they also cycle. (It‘s actually realistic for them to do that, it would be about half an hour between those locations by bike).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rebecca doesn‘t see the obvious bike lane (that doesn‘t actually exist there) and falls into the gracht at Raamgracht. Boaty McBoatface‘s houseboat is still there, they just had it dressed up a bit with plants and such when they filmed. (Unclear if anyone currently lives there). The interiors were shot in a studio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trent follows Colin to Prik night club (which was absolutely buzzing when I was there, I really want to go back).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then they sit at the Homomonument, the Pink Triangle memorial at Westerkerk, having that tearjerker of a conversation, before returning to party. (It walked that distance at night, it‘s a beautiful stroll and less than 10 minutes). When I visited someone had left sunflowers. 🌻
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leslie & Will first go to Hotel Prins Hendrik in the Red Light district (and steps away from Amsterdam main station) where Chet Baker died. They then make their way to Jazz Café Alto, which is just down the road from where Boom Chicago used to be on Leidseplein. (It‘s about 30 mins on foot between those two locations so they could have walked or just taken the tram for a few stops. The interiors were done at a studio though).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ted of course visits the studio-filmed fictional themed restaurant where he has a BBQ sauce induced, Corey Burton-narrated epiphany about triangles, but first he sees Vincent‘s „Sunflowers“ at Van Gogh Museum during Museumnacht (which btw would mean the episode is set first weekend of November). As you can tell they moved some things around, so at least currently the painting isn‘t hung on that beautiful blue wall anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a bonus, here is a picture of where Boom Chicago used to be when Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly performed there - Brendan also used to live above the McDonald‘s on Leidseplein just steps away for a while. And the other picture is the current Boom Chicago on Rozengracht, definitely go enjoy a show there if you can.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway thus concludeth my trip around Ted Lasso‘s Amsterdam. I visited for the Boom Chicago Comedy Festival and fell in love with the city, it was … magical / gezellig. I will never forget it, but then again, some people get Alzheimer’s.

Trent is honestly so funny for suggesting Museumnacht as a Night Out In Amsterdam activity for a bunch of professional athletes in their 20s. Like you know good and well

watching the Amsterdam episode now
ongoing thoughts
- why are they even playing Ajax. what level are Richmond at. when is this. if this is the international break why is Ajax playing. you’d assume Richmond would also have internationals (Sam at least, right?). god the actual football in this show drives me fucking insane. (I know the answer is “Sudekis and Hunt wanted to go back to Amsterdam on Apple’s dime” but still)
- this is exactly how all Dutch sports journalists talk and it is so funny to see non-Dutch people deal with it
- graag gedaan
- Jamie’s Facts of Amsterdam
- Rebecca the bike lanes are obvious. Get out of the red! (Also most canals in the center don’t even have those)
- you can swim in the canals but I wouldn’t in the city center (out of it, though, or along the Ij is often fine)
- Johan Cruyff is, indeed, that cool. I miss him
- hehehe herring
- it is extremely funny that Jan’s suggestion is going to Groningen which is extremely Groningen of him. but also what is Martin Garrix doing up there
- if it’s Museumnacht and also possible to see the Northern Lights it’s the wrong time of year for a tulip, sorry Dani. they can probably get you one of those wooden ones though.
- seriously though why are you bringing drugs to the Netherlands the best drugs are here and we’re proud of it
- the himbos are the only part of this show that are still a comedy
- the Dutch is funny though (including the not-translated bits) and hearing Jan talk it is also funny
- niet gezellig, hé
- Jamie’s cute in his little Grealish hair
- hey it’s Prik! I have spent a decent amount of time in that bar considering I don’t even live in Amsterdam. it’s a cute bar, good crowd, my friend used to work there. it’s not on the main street of gay bars, which probably makes it less intimidating to Colin.
- gezellig
- Boat Guy is extremely Dutch (positive)
- oh here’s where they’re using Zij gelooft in mij. It’s cute!
- lmao at Jamie getting some “used bikes” off a junkie on the street. you don’t see that much any more (particularly where they were) but when Hunt and Sudekis used to live there it was pretty common
- everyone’s said this but it is sweet that Colin and Trent’s conversation is at the Homomonument. (also not far from Prik even if you stop for beers.)
- just realizing that this is a very dry night in Amsterdam, not common
- everyone has such great Facts About Amsterdam. good job being the Amsterdam tourist board, cast of Ted Lasso
- what strings did Ted have to pull to get a Museumnacht ticket at random
- Richard is right, they should not try Dutch food, it’s bad. note Jan was not suggesting it. (seeing them all pile into a FEBO would be funny though)
- extremely sweet that they manage to get a discussion of the word “gezellig” into this. if I didn’t already know that they were fond of the Netherlands, that would do it.
- hey it’s Derek! He has lines! (He’s the waiter Ted takes a pen from.) That’s actually pretty exciting, he wasn’t sure he would actually be in the show, it’s his first TV role
- there are American-themed restaurants here and they are often like that and it’s extremely funny. I’m obsessed with all of them
- Hunt showing off his Dutch. I didn’t realize until this episode that he was here for 10 years, that’s pretty serious
- if Beard had got his drugs in the Netherlands they wouldn’t have been duds you know
- Roy is a lot braver than me, I tried riding on the back of a bike once and it sucked ass
- in the end, this is a pretty sweet tribute to Amsterdam - you can tell that they’re affectionate towards the city and the Dutch and wanted to show that. I’m charmed by how much they clearly just wanted to showcase the city and its charms, and I think they did a good job of it.

i’m just thinking about ted x trent again, specifically in relation to the Amsterdam episode.
now, that episode is wholesome, and i love it a lot and i think it was beautiful as is, but i just had a thought about how ted and trent could have interacted in it and where it could have pivoted to start turning towards a ted x trent endgame.
so nothing changes about trent and colin’s scenes up through the Homomonument. those are perfect. all of that still happens. but i would add a scene where from the Homomonument, trent takes colin to museumnacht and they find ted there crying over Sunflowers. maybe even trent is the one that buys ted the sunflowers notebook. then the vanilla vodka club scene happens, but now it’s with trent, colin, and ted dancing and drinking together (maybe even a hint towards bisexual ted reveal).
ted alone at the american restaurant doesn’t happen, but the ending scene on the bus happens as is. that scene is also perfect and i love it. but instead of ted’s weird bbq sauce hallucination, he just naturally comes up with his version of total football after being found by his friends and included in their freeing night together. so ted scribbling away in his notebook and then showing it to beard still happens. trent and colin are still at the front of the bus singing along with everyone.

My dear friend, Amsterdam was 4 months ago (Museumnacht, which Trent mentions, is in Nov. The article on Super League is dated March) There was a visit to a doctor. If Rebecca was pregnant, she'd know. And she would have TOLD SOMEONE and would not keep drinking alcohol. Also, why do you keep peddling this sexual assault storyline?!

Tickets for Museumnacht on the night?
Marked cycling lanes on canals?
A pathological need to call everything gezellig?
Ted Lasso, don’t hurt me like that.
I’m kidding, it was hilarious. Colin almost getting hit by a cyclist when leaving is Prik is actually legit, that street sucks.
Random André Hazes singing, also p legit.
And Trent and Colin talking on the Homomonument in front of the Westerkerk? Beautifully done.
Coach speaks Dutch…well. Like. Good. It cracked me up. Bonus: OK DOEI

If I hadn’t seen the promo pics, I would’ve thought Trent was gonna take Ted to the Van Gogh museum for museumnacht

Note
went to the art institute in Chicago today and saw a bunch of homoerotic statues of men nude wrestling. cock and balls memorialized forever in bronze, clay, marble, etc. thought of roy/jamie for every single one but esp Hercules and Antaeus and Hercules and Lichas
there were some weirder ones that reminded me of them too like Hyacinth Awaiting His Turn to Throw the Discus reminded me of jamie (there’s some implications about both their careers in the story and it’s also a beautiful but kind of uncomfortable statue)
if this show came out in like 2016 we’d have so many achilles/patroclus crossover fics of roy/jamie which i kind of want to read even tho i usually don’t like crossovers
also included full titles to the pieces. looking up the descriptions on the art institute’s website is so funny. like they are so clearly homoerotic but it’s not mentioned even a little bit
also makes me think trent was right and the team should’ve gone to museumnacht. maybe then Colin’s dream of the whole team coming out with him would’ve been realized 😔
I love every part of this ask just so you know. I'm too stoned to say anything intelligent back atm (will reblog later with commentary) but "cock and balls memorialized forever in bronze, clay, and marble" is like a poem to me
I actually LOVED the Song of Achilles when I read it in hs... It's been years since I read it but I remember it was the one "booktok" book I've actually thoroughly enjoyed. I would gratefully read a rj tsoa au for real
