Patent Model - Improvement in Boats for Duck-Shooting, made by Robert Bogle, 1857, in the collection of the Hagley Museum (@hagleyvault) of Wilmington, DE.
Bogle's patent was an improvement to "a low floating boat or battery for trailing and shooting duck and other water-fowl, in which the gunner is secreted, as well as the boat, and protected from the surrounding water, while he can propel the boat toward the game by his feet and legs…" (Patent number: 17,192)
tagging @elodieunderglass because horrible things with legs
I think Vera and Wocky would play animal crossing together on their old ds lites…Wocky would have the pink one and it would have stickers on it and be dented around the edges because he always dropped it as a kid and there’s a stylus is stuck in the stylus hole, and Vera’s would be white and pristine
they visit each other’s towns and bring each other gifts and their villagers ask about each other and Wocky is jealous because Vera’s town has his favorite villager
Another beautiful and rare Maurice (1987) production still from the forthcoming 2023 documentary Merchant Ivory [x].
There are other rarely seen b/w stills of Maurice and Alec at the British Museum, but I don’t believe I’d seen this particular shot before. For another, see @oscarwetnwilde’s recent post.
The documentary itself does not seem to have a release date yet. But there’s a wonderful extended taster (the source of this shot) on the director’s Vimeo [x], plus a newer/shorter 2023 trailer via his website [x].
nanon's such a good fucking actor, i'm so glad he got to double dip. he had barely a minute and did such a bang up job with it, and the immediate transfer of the one's energy from gun to nanon really solidified a pet theory of mine. a trickster god, no matter who plays them, will always be 1) hot and 2) queerer than the day is long.
