Supervia sings "Musetta's Waltz" in 1934 film "Evensong"
"Evensong" -- a British film (directed by Victor Saville), adapted from a tell-all novelization of Nellie Melba's life, with a plot resembling "All About Eve". The Eve Harrington/Anne Baxter character is the great Spanish mezzo, Conchita Supervia (1895-1936). Supervia plays "Baba L'Etoile", the young rival of the aging British has-been "Madame Irela" (Evelyn Laye), who refers to the younger singer as a "Spanish cow". Supervia has a very small part in this film, but most of it is singing, and her distinctive vibrato is in full throttle here.

inventing backstories for the people who pass by your parisian cafe table | waltz loop 2hrs
"you see that man there," she leans over to whisper conspiratorially, gesturing with her gaze to a man on the far side of the boulevard with large and unflattering whiskers. "i heard that he lost much of his fortune in a scheme about a canal in the americas."
"oh i do believe i heard the same thing. he was taken in by a roguish swindler, who, if i'm not mistaken, has just turned onto this street. you see him, there, with the gaudy waistcoat?"
"yes i see him! they're walking straight for each other. however will this play out? will they exchange pleasantries? pretend there is no ill feeling between them? or will there be a violent confrontation, perhaps? are we about to witness the issuance of a duel?"
the men, of course, being complete strangers to one another, do no such thing.
"what a snub! not even a tip of their hats! oh the blood between them is bad, indeed." locking eyes with your dearest of friends, you cannot suppress the giggle that bubbles forth now. oh that every day were so carefree.

fun fact. musetta’s waltz, the song that roger plays on his guitar, is from la bohème, the opera rent was based off of. maureen is based on musetta. the lyrics of musetta’s waltz, translated, are:
When I walk When I walk all alone in the street, people stop and stare at me and look for my whole beauty from head to feet ...
And then I taste the slight yearning which transpires from their eyes and which is able to perceive from manifest charms to most hidden beauties. So the scent of desire is all around me, it makes me happy!
And you, while knowing, reminding and longing, you shrink from me? I know it very well: you don't want to express your anguish, but you feel as if you're dying!
sound familiar? here is the first verse of “take me or leave me”:
Every single day, I walk down the street I hear people say "baby’s so sweet” Ever since puberty Everybody stares at me Boys, girls, I can't help it baby So be kind, and don't lose your mind Just remember that I'm your baby
and some from “tango maureen”:
[MARK:] Feel like going insane Got a fire in your brain And you're thinking of drinking gasoline?
[JOANNE:] As a matter of fact-
[MARK:] Honey, I know this act It's called the Tango: Maureen

Hello!! I would be so interested to hear your thoughts, what song or music can you see each of the Moon Knight boys waltzing or slow dancing with the reader to at like a masquerade ball or some other fancy gathering? I absolutely love the way you write for the boys, and Miguel, too!!
sorry it took so long! i have two more parts with marc + jake so stay tuned :3 this was so fun to write !! pls read with the music in the background.
steven: the baker's son
main theme: la source, op. 23
fate had drawn the two soft souls together.
steven is not of high social standing, but he's utterly in love with you. he's a baker's son, delivering a fresh loaf to your estate every other day. you always insist on receiving the bread personally, if only for a few moments with him.
your close friendship quickly turns into quiet meets, flushed gazes and secret kisses, a shy budding romance hidden from the world. you both know your father would never approve, but you're too much in love to care. he longs for you, and you, him.
but then life gets in the way.
waltz 1: waltz in a flat major, op. 39 no. 15
steven is never invited to balls, but when your family hosts one you tell him to sneak into the estate and sit at the fountain to wait for you.
you slip out at the height of the ball when your parents are too distracted to notice your absence, and seek him out. you smile. he looks so dapper in his ill fitting suit, one that probably belongs to his father.
he gives you a shy bow before offering his hand, "may i have the honor to share a dance with you, darling?"
you blush, gently placing your hand in his, "you may."
the two of you waltz to the muffled music that plays from within the ballroom. you look up at him and then at the world around you, draped with the soft golden glow of the candles scattered around the garden.
as the song meets its final beat, his eyes lock with yours, milk chocolate pulling you closer into his space. a hand cradles your jaw as he leans in and your eyes flutter shut, anticipating his lips meeting yours.
---
a week after the ball, your father announces that you and your sister will be sent off to live with your aunt in bigger city to find a wealthy husband. you cry to steven, telling him that you will never forget him.
he urges you to run away with him, to build a new life away from the pressures of society, but you refuse, telling him you can't leave your little sister to live in the city on her own.
waltz 2: musetta's waltz
you meet each other 5 years later at a masquerade.
it's an exclusive ball, only the most elite members were invited.
you're glad you have a mask on, otherwise everyone would see the scowl on your face. ever since you left your hometown, you've hated balls. you hate the empty conversations, the restrictive corsets, and the men who would ask for a dance. but most of all, you hate that he's not here with you.
and it's all your fault.
you should've ran away with him when you had the chance. he's probably married now, and with children. he probably doesn't waste a single thought about you.
a throat is cleared behind you and it shocks you out of your thoughts.
you turn and see a man with a delicate white mask, hands fiddling nervously together as you appraise him. he bows in his perfectly tailored suit and you curtsy, ballgown fluffed around you.
he smoothly offers his gloved hand, "may i have the honor--"
"okay, if we must."
his body stiffens when you interrupt him, but he doesn't seem irritated, just taken aback.
throughout the waltz, you don't talk to him, adamant to finish this dance as soon as possible. but you'll admit he's a good dancer. his hands delicately hold you as you fluidly move along the ballroom floor. his touch never strays from your waist as he starts pulling you closer.
you let him. there's something about his touch feels familiar.
"are you well, darling?"
darling
you look up and meet his eyes. those familiar eyes. his lips quirk up into a smile as he watches your eyes widen in disbelief.
"steven?" your hands come up to hold his face as your eyes scan him, to make sure he's real. you slowly take his mask off to reveal his gentle face.
my steven.
your eyes sting with happy tears, "my love."
he takes your mask off, smiling as he sees your full face for the first time in years, "i'm here now." he wraps his arms around you, squeezing you tight as you nuzzle your face into his chest.
"h-how...?"
"i left the village and built a new life...for you." he wipes your tears from your face, "tell me it's not too late, that you haven't found another."
"never."

I've been wanting to make a top ten composers list so here it is! This list does go in order from most to least beloved so yeah
1. Antonio Vivaldi
Surprising absolutely no one, Vivaldi has gained the spot of number 1 in my heart. While a good chunk of his work is largely concertos, there's so many that I have come to love, though I will say his cello sonatas are my favorites, but I'll be going into those on a separate post. Out of all the composers out there, Antonio Vivaldi has managed to capture my heart in ways I never knew possible. He just makes my brain short circuit and I love it!
2. Tchaikovsky
Next up is my favorite composer from childhood, Peter Tchaikovsky. He's a composer whose works I grew up with, especially when it comes to The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. I remember feeling a sense of awe when I first heard his stuff, and part of me still feels that to this very day when it comes to his works. It's a shame I never got to play any more of his stuff when I was in the orchestra. We played 1812 overture, but never any of this other fantastic works. Highly recommend him for anyone else interested in classical music!
3. Dmitri Shostakovich
And now here's a composer that I have recently come to love, another Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich! A man who wrote a whole opera about an anthropomorphic nose, Shostakovich is more toned down than some of the other composers I enjoy, but I think that's why I like him so much. Since I am constantly tired these days, his music provides me with my much needed noise without being so energetic that it ends up draining me, so for that (along with a few other reasons) he's earned his spot here!
4. Franz Liszt
Next we have Mr. Franz Liszt, a man whose works blew me away so much that I actually briefly considered learning how to play the piano because I desperately wanted to play Love Dream (well I still do)! But hey, at least I can attempt to transcribe it for the electric guitar. Anyway my possibly unrealistic goals aside, Liszt revived my old love of the piano and I will always thank him for that. I will go into more detail when I make a separate post about him in the future, but for now, I leave it as is!
5. Giacomo Puccini
And now we have Mr. Giacomo Puccini, a man who has become a "comfort composer" of mine. Basically his music aids in calming me when my anxiety is running high. I'll either listen to my favorite hymns or I'll put on something from Madame Butterfly or Musetta's Waltz. My absolute favorite song of his is Un Bel Di Vedremo from the Madame Butterfly opera, though I'm fairly certain I have stated before that I greatly prefer the orchestral version than the opera one, but I won't go into that right now since I will most likely be making a separate post about his operas sometime soon! Highly recommend the song though! It is, in my most humble opinion, The Best aria I have ever heard in my life.
6. Camille Saint-Saëns
And next is the man responsible for getting me back into classical music, Camille Saint Saens. Known for the song Danse Macabre, Saint Saens is a man that I hadn't known about until I randomly came across the Danse by complete accident on YT, he is the reason why I blast your dashboard with 50 posts of random composers I like, and man I am glad for it. I have always held a love and admiration for classical music, one that was discovered in childhood and slowly repressed over time, though now revitalized and stronger than ever, and it's all thanks to one Frenchman from the 1800s. Love Saint Saens, and I always will!
7. Niccolo Paganini
And now for the man that I like to describe as Vivaldi if he were hopelessly addicted to stimulants, the infamous "Devil's Violinists", Signore Niccolo Paganini. A composer that has only recently captured my attention, Niccolo is so fascinating to me, not just as a person, but as a musician. I have played the violin for a long time, and never in my life did I ever imagine anything like the works Paganini made. I think my fingers would break if I tried playing his Caprice, but I still love listening to the utter chaos of it!
8. Giuseppe Tartini
Oh and here is a man who was actually one of Vivaldi's contemporaries, Giuseppe Tartini! Also a violinist that was accused of selling his soul to the devil, Tartini is one that really caught my attention with his famous Sonata in G Minor, also known as "The Devil's Trill". While not as chaotic as Paganini, Tartini, like all these other men here, has managed to tickle my brain oh so nicely!!! Even his less exciting works have managed to make me go 💖💖❤💖💞💓. Love him to utter bits!
9. Antonin Dvorak
Here we have Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. Words cannot describe how his works have managed to make me feel. If I could crack open my brain and reveal to you all how his music makes me feel I would. There is something about it that just crushes me a good way and I cannot describe it. It makes me feel similar to how Pavarotti makes me feel. Maybe it's the colors, maybe it's something else but I just don't know how to describe it. It's something that builds in my chest and makes me feel like I'm explode but in a good way. Maybe one day I'll be able to describe it, until then, know that he is one of the best in my most humble opinion!
10. Mozart
And last but not least, the guy I wish I could've shoved into a locker, W.A. Mozart. Yes I want to shove him into a locker, not because I hate him as a person, but because he just has a vibe to him that makes me a little violent. My violent tendencies aside, do I even need to say much about him? He's one of the most well know composers so I'm sure anyone reading this is familiar with him in one way or another. My favorite work of his Requiem, the composition that has been accused of being what killed him, and the work I'm currently trying to figure out on the guitar. For as much I love bullying Mozart, he does hold a special place in my heart! 10/10 love this funky dude!
And here we have it! My top ten composers!

I turned on TV today and witnessed the worst offence against stage costuming. This dress looks like a cheap copy of the designer dress from Wish.
youtube
Also, this staging (it was La Traviata) was overall extremely bad. And it's in a fucking Monte Carlo opera house not some student production.
While I was searching for this clip I found out that Aida Garifullina wasn't the only one opera singer to be dressed terribly by this theatre. This is Mariam Battistelli as Musetta in La Boheme.
youtube
I can't believe someone saw it and said: yes, this dress looks good.
(directing in both scenes is also terrible btw)
For the comparison some recordings of these scenes with normal directing under the cut
After the guests leave, Violetta wonders if Alfredo could actually be the one in her life (Violetta: È strano! ... Ah, fors' è lui – "Ah, perhaps he is the one"). But she concludes that she needs freedom to live her life (Violetta, Alfredo: Sempre libera – "Always free"). From off stage, Alfredo's voice is heard singing about love as he walks down the street.
youtube
Pretty Yende as Violetta Valery at Royal Opera House.
youtube
Tuuli Takala as Violetta Valery at Finnish National Opera
As the men and Mimì dine at the cafe, Musetta, Marcello's former sweetheart, arrives with her rich (and elderly) government minister admirer, Alcindoro, whom she is tormenting. It is clear she is tired of him. To the delight of the Parisians and the embarrassment of her patron, she sings a risqué song (Musetta's waltz: Quando me'n vo'—"When I go along"), hoping to reclaim Marcello's attention.

Vuvu Mpofu as Musetta at Glyndebourne Opera Festival

(The boy had smelled divine when they were dancing just now, and he was already quite sweetly affectionate and a little flustered when he forgot to be offended with the whole situation for ten seconds.) Could we get a scene of them dancing at their wedding? What did they talk about, I wonder? I bet Terry was playing it cool, but also teasing the poor boy.
Terry leans over and whispers in his ear, puts a soft hand on his waist. "It's us, next."
[He wants to lick him. He should not lick him.]
Those huge brown eyes flick up at him, then immediately lower. "Do we - sorry, you're right."
A hand on his arm. [He wants to cup his chin. Patience, Terry.] "Are you alright?"
A shaky breath. "I'm shy!"
Is this how omegas - is this what they do? Because he's had some kitties like this in his bed, and could have sworn it's bedroom talk. He's like, 65% sure that's not what's going on here, but tell that to his brainstem right now.
Christ, he blushes and everything.
Fine, countermove. "But didn't you take dance?"
His head jerks. "At school."
Terry grins. "That must mean you like the spotlight. Musicians, they're shy."
The boy scoffs. "You're not shy."
"But I do like to watch."
The blush deepens, and Terry gives the band a nod. "Come on, I'll help you through it."
He's so hot he's practically burning, but he does manage to bring out: "That's your job." Then he bows his head. "I mean, for the dance, Sir."
Terry takes his young mate's right hand to his lips, plants a kiss on his fingers, just as the band starts Musetta's Waltz. "Bet your ass, Danny boy." He helps him up. "Now and forever."
He doesn't say much at that, but does let Terry hold him close.
Closer, it seems, than a waltz would technically allow.

For those like me who cannot watch with audio/can't hear for one reason or another, I finally scrolled through the replies to find out why this was so wild, and holy shit.
They're singing opera—I believe someone said it's Musetta's Waltz (but please correct me if I'm wrong because I can't listen)—while pole dancing.
As someone who was classically trained and sang opera for a while before I got sick, that kicks absolute fucking ass.
#this is awesome!#but also look#i know audio is important for conveying the hilarity or kickass-ery of something#but please please please don't just say “sound on”#some people can't. like please.#please just provide at least a little blurb about why the sound is funny/super dope
