Day 9: Mt Komorebi
Moriah sent me a text saying she was heading up to the Onsen Bath since it was her day off. She invited me to join and I'm not one to turn down a dip in the hot spring.

Day 4 - That’s history!!!
Hello all! I apologize for such a late update. I had my usual morning post all done and ready to go and then no service when I went to post.
The chilly temperature this morning in Custer woke me up early so I decided to take Lily for a walk around the lake as the sun came up. Lily enjoyed all the strange smells and I think she was trying her best to hunt down that bison who was in camp the night before. (Side note, when we pulled out this morning the behemoth beast was standing right at the edge of the road. I guess he likes camping!) taking that lake walk this morning was contagious. Everyone went walking by the lake in their own time, but Todd was the only one lucky enough to see any horned wildlife. Well, I guess Mom saw some too since she went with Dad. 😊
After walking and organizing, we headed towards Mountain Rushmore. A dear friend of mine, Joanie, told me once “It is like nothing you have ever seen. Indescribable.” She was not wrong!
As Todd maneuvered the camper van through the S curves and beautiful mountains, there it was. The feeling brought me back to that same excitement when I was a kid screaming, “I see the Eiffel Tower!!!” as we neared King’s Island. But this…WOW! To see one and only completed, hand carved, rock sculpture of the faces of four of the most influential presidents U.S. history is truly unbelievable. Seeing it in books and pictures just doesn’t do it justice. Even Lily stopped to look!!! I asked Mom if she ever thought she would see it in person…her response was nothing short of what anyone reading this would expect, “No, I did not.” I am so thankful that she was able to see what some might call the 8th Wonder of the World. (I don’t know if anyone actually calls it that except the guy I heard say it while we were there, but it sounded feasible to me!)
After our visit to Mount Rushmore, we made our way to Deadwood, SD, where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are laid to rest. After watching, the HBO series of the same name a few years back, I couldn’t wait to visit the famous western gold mining town. I have to say, I was highly disappointed in the town as it was not the original or even the close reproduction that I had expected, but much more commercialized with casinos and souvenir shops being nearly every establishment on Main Street. We didn’t let that ruin our fun! Todd’s hopes were deflated when he discovered the brothel had been shut down by the FBI over 40 years ago. Just kidding….he had no idea…didn’t even know the sign was there when I took his picture!! 😂
While Calamity Jane always raised a ruckus, I knew Dad would give her a run for her money. A local bartender recommended the Oyster Bay restaurant for the best pizza in town, so off we went. Like everywhere else, they had slot machines. What we learned is that not only Dad, but Mom, had missed their calling….millwright and customer service worker, pfft! They should have moved west and became gamblers! We gave them each $2 and Todd showed them how the penny slot worked. Mom won $9.64 and Dad won $7.35! They nearly won enough to pay for their lunch AND were smart enough to cash out and be done!
After making a brief stop at the Bar where Wild Bill Hickok was shot while holding a hand of Aces and Eights, we decided to head out of town after making one last stop at Mt. Moriah cemetery where Bill, Jane and the town’s first sheriff, Seth Bullock, were buried. I mean, we were there, right? Why not?
On the road again, Wyoming brings a different kind of terrain….many meadows of antelope, but coolest of all was seeing Devil’s Tower in the distance as we made our way to our campground in Moorcroft. I guess I have been doing this way too long both Mom and Todd just asked if I had posted. Until tomorrow family and friends! ❤️

I need you to know that this is the funniest poll idea I've seen yet. You are amazing and this is brilliant.
Aw, thanks : D Part of the credit has to go to my friend, whose first response to hearing about the denomination poll was "I want a baptists-only one with, like, 55 opening brackets." I was sleeping on the idea until I went last weekend to a church called Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist that was all of half a mile from another church called Original Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist. It was meant to be!

AT LEAST 5 KIDS DEAD OR INJURED IN THE SPAN OF A WEEK IN MEMPHIS (MAY 2023)
This week we've seen shockingly young gun violence victims throughout Memphis. Our city is in crumbling from all the pain these constant shootings bring, but little has been done by the government to protect citizens. 282 million dollars went to MPD in 2021, whereas under $232,000 went to the homeless initiative and under 5 million dollars towards housing and community development. Studies show that when taxes are put into funding the well-being and safety of citizens in the sense of housing, education, health care, etc, that crime goes down. Still, Memphis officials and Tennessee government would rather fund millions of dollars into a police department that has proven to be an aggressor than fund avenues that strengthen our city and provide resources to help steer our youth away from crime and gang violence. This incompetence on the governments part is why Memphis remains the murder capital of the USA and one of the top 10 most dangerous cities in the world.
-May 14th, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the head at a gas station on Mt. Moriah road and died on the 18th from his injuries.
-Also on the 14th, a 9 year old girl was shot dead after her 7yr old brother accidentally fired the weapon in South Memphis.
-May 17th a 5 year old boy accidentally fatally shot himself
-May 18th a 16 year old boy was shot and later died from his injuries.
-May 21st a juvenile was shot on South 4th street and Peabody place. He later died in the hospital.

Day 5: Mt. Komorebi I was up working on a knitting project when I recieved a text from Moriah. She mentioned something about a season premiere.. I was never allowed to watch much tv so I had never seen the show, but I was getting cross-eyed from knitting so much so I decided I would take her up on her offer.

Shalom, shalom

Mt Sinai plucked itself out of Mt Moriah
The Midrash sees the two mountains as essentially linked, even physically: 'So Mt Sinai plucked itself out of Mt Moriah, as a priest's portion is plucked out of the dough and that is how it came into being '(Midrash re Num.15,20) and, when the Torah was given on Har Sinai, 'The Temple Mount uprooted itself and came to the Sinai desert, so that the Torah would be given on holy ground' (Midrash re Yithro).
Har Sinai and Har haMoriah are the two witnesses to the Divine and the human course in Judaism.

Sunday Morning Sermon, March 3, 2024
Yahweh Yireh: The Lord our Provider
==========
IntroductionWe live in an era of entitlement. Wants and needs are treated the same. Outdoor lovers will tell you that our actual needs are very few, but how much other stuff do we add to those basic needs?Beyond anything physical, how much more foundational is our real spiritual need?Yahweh Yireh"The LORD will Provide"Yahweh- "The LORD," "I AM"Yireh- To "see" as in to look or search for
‭Genesis 22:1-14 ESV‬
[1] After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” [2] He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” [3] So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. [4] On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. [5] Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.” [6] And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. [7] And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” [8] Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together. [9] When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. [10] Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. [11] But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” [12] He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” [13] And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. [14] So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
What about God's promise?!
‭Genesis 22:13-14 ESV‬
[13] And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. [14] So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
God provided a lamb.- Isaac is spared.- God is appeased. But what does this mean for us?What does God provide?
LifeGod is the Creator, the source of life.El Chay- "The Living God"- The God of life- The God who is life and being- "I AM that I AM"Christians cherish the sanctity of life.- From him, through him, to him- God is the one who gives life.- God is the onw who takes life.
Material NeedsWe are blinded to God's provision.- By our arrogance- By materialism- We see ourselves as the source.Jesus spoke about our needs (Mt. 6)- He also told us our greatest need.
‭Matthew 6:33 ESV‬
[33] But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
‭Psalm 37:25 ESV‬
[25] I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.
You are not a bird, flower, or grass.- You are God's child!- How much does he care for you?!Are you carrying a burden? Is there a need you have?Where is your trust?Trust is not a Christian cliche'.- It is the heart of the Gospel.See Abraham's trust.
‭Genesis 22:5 ESV‬
[5] Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.”
[8] Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.
‭Hebrews 11:17-19 ESV‬
[17] By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, [18] of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” [19] He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.
Even if a resurrection had to happen...This kind of faith is not blind, wishful, hopeful thinking. It is a certain, absolute expectation. That is what should drive us to God
‭Philippians 4:4-7 ESV‬
[4] Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. [5] Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; [6] do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. [7] And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
‭James 4:2-3 ESV‬
[2] You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. [3] You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
A Greater Need- Abraham is called to a mountain.- To sacrifice his only son- He says they will both return.- "God will provide..."- Isaac is spared.- Another dies in his place.- God is appeased. When the people return here centuries later, this is where the Temple will eventually be built.Sacrifices- Day after day- Year after year- Century after century- Blood spilled for atonementEcho: "God will provide himself a lamb."
‭John 1:29 ESV‬
[29] The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
If you have this Lamb, you have everything you need. You can trust that God will meet your every need because he has already met your greatest need in Christ. So you can bring it all to him.
‭Luke 12:32 ESV‬
[32] “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
‭Matthew 6:33 ESV‬
[33] But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
‭Romans 8:32 ESV‬
[32] He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
‭Philippians 4:19 ESV‬
[19] And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
