Kirby's Dreamland 2, world 5: Red Canyon! I'm still passionate about this project, even (almost) 60 days in! I planned some of these in advance, but only on days where I knew I wouldn't be home for long. Actually, funny story... I was experiencing a POWER OUTAGE (and later a wifi outage) on july 29th! So I drew Waiu while staying over at my grandparents' house, and drew the next several illustrations (Cutter Rick, Captain Stitch, Needle Rick) without using my computer to find reference material & such. I had to use my phone!

Anyways this is still fun to me as a project ngl! I'm glad I picked Kirby for this, because it's something I've always been interested in ever since I was a kid. Sometimes hyperfixations come and go for me, but Kirby is eternal. I suppose this KDL2 series has been a real testament to that-- would you believe I don't even like KDL2 as a game? I don't! I thought it was really frustrating! But I beat it 100% anyways! Because I love Kirby. LOL

When we get to see Molly’s resurrection and he calls Caleb Magician—the way Caleb’s whole face softens and melts and it looks like he’s about to cry, how heartbreaking it is that he clearly never thought Tealeaf would remember him—

After Kirby & co. return home, dejected, Kirby finds an unfamiliar face imprisoned in a burlap sack. It's the Blob Girl! Blob tells Kirby she's been watching him closely after he freed Gooey, and says she'll let him in on two secrets:

One: Gooey and Blob are Dark Matter's youngest servants, created specifically to match Kirby and overpower him two-to-one. The reason they never did, was because Gooey ran off on his own and attacked random people thinking they were Kirby, getting himself kidnapped. Whenever Kirby would free him, Gooey would thank him for his kindness and move on; in his mind, even though he was being rescued by someone named Kirby, it couldn't be the Kirby because he was nice to him. Why would he kill him if he was nice? So in observing Gooey's antics, Blob decided Kirby was worth observing and spied on him. She willingly got herself captured so the two could talk to each other.

Two: Repairing the Rainbow Bridge requires more than just the Rainbow Drops. They are the key elements, but they must be 'bonded' together using small stars. Dark Matter tore the bridge asunder and scattered the stars among the six islands before Dark Castle, and now the powers in charge of the islands guard them.

Kirby is shocked that Gooey was made of Dark Matter the whole time and didn't say anything, but he supposes it never came up in conversation. He is hesitant to trust Blob, but he recognizes that she wouldn't have told him her secrets if she still wanted to work for Dark Matter. It was the truth, and Kirby is sure of what he must do now. He heads back through all the islands, gathering small stars!

the two usually get along by taking turns by being day and night on Popstar…however a certain bat made the two got into an argument and fight over dominance. once they see NOVA being corrupted and Maruku’s true colors expose they work together and stopped them from taking over Popstar

Maddie had a day out in the big city! My friend Jess organised a dolly crafting meet today (see her insta post here) and there was a lot of chatting about dolls and crafting, and not much actual making. It was really great to have a catch up at the Putney Pantry again; the Otome Sewing Bee used to regularly have craft meets here but the last time we were here was in December 2021.

Maddie wore her Karami Babydoll and Kamikaze Girls bonnet, which got new ribbons to replace its 20 year old ones yesterday. Ideally we would have twinned, but I don't have Karami Babydoll so I wore Josephine jsk, which is at least another 2004 dress. I was planning to wear my RHS too, but the weather disagreed and I wore boots. My sewing project today was a mini Spin Doll Headdress for Maddie, just like the one I was wearing. I've almost finished it, I just need to get some better ribbon (don't buy Hobbycraft own brand)

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright!

Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright are, collectively, the boss of Butter Building in Kirby's Adventure. Mr. Shine is the moon, and Mr. Bright is the sun. They aren't the actual sun and moon, in fact we even visit the moon in Kirby's Adventure, but they definitely have some sorta powers that effect the time of day in some way, maybe just in the nearby area. Their boss fight is really creative, as the two of them switch off fighting you directly, while the other one stays up in the sky invulnerable and does some more simple attacks. They have separate health bars, so you have to take them both down to win the fight. They reappear as a boss in Dream Land 2, where their fight is basically the exact same, although they have this really cool eclipse attack where you have to stay safe in the dark area or else you get blasted by Mr. Bright's sunlight. The two of them also appear as a boss in the Kirby Mass Attack sub-game Strato Patrol EOS, where they actually fuse together into some sorta weird hybrid form, which I'll draw as a separate character when I get to it. They've had a few other cameos here and there, as most Kirby characters do, but haven't appeared as an actual boss fight in quite some time. I think they make for a really charming duo though, and would love to see them return for real!

Also, there's a few Alts I made for these guys, first depicting the Sun and Moon forms when they switch off in battle.

And then there's also some alts for Mr. Shine depicting him with the blue outline he has in his in-game sprites in Nightmare in Dream Land and Mass Attack.
