from one of the classic Mc Farlane's toyline, the beloved Movie Maniacs series, come this 2002 Tooth Fairy figure, with open mouth details... honestly speaking, I mostly bought Movie Maniacs series just to get better details of specific horror monster or creature, to appreciate them more beyond the action paced camera works, lmao

Practice 1_2.2 - Inspiration

Folk Horror

Folk Horror is characterised by a remote community which is infiltrated by an outsider, usually with a clashing ideaology to the, usually brutally traditional or morally unacceptable way of the native population. I wanted to evoke something similar to the Apostle, Forbidden Siren, the Vvitch, the Thing (not technically Folk Horror, although it does share the concept of an 'outsider' and a remote community).

Body Horror

This subject of a Cult that worships the mutation of the human form naturally lent itself to visions of The Thing, H.P. Lovecraft, Forbidden Siren, Parasyte, Ahmed Afazil. But I wanted to branche out from this and merge the human form with distinctly recognisable species of fauna and flora.

Additionally one of the first things that popped into my mind when considering this task was the amazing series of images titled 'Forest God' by Oleg Vdovenko.

Expressions

One thing I really wanted to nail for this project was the way something human can be considered inhuman so I looked into some extreme expressions, both human and inhuman. From Horrorfilms such as Evil Dead, Forbidden Siren, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Junji Ito.

I wanted to evoke this sort of Found Footage feel to my value studies. I looked into Trevor Henderson, but ran out of time and pivoted to a "sketchbook" design similar to the Necronomicon from Evil Dead.
