This is a poem about the Queen’s Gardens but with an added twist. I put beginning-placed assonances and consonances everywhere—an assonance is a literary device when vowel sounds repeat and a consonance follows the same rules but with consonant sounds—just to add challenge for myself. And it was pretty difficult since I had to delve into non-American spellings of a word at times and Oxford’s Language is burned into my retinas. This challenge did come at the cost of clarity and accuracy of the poem but I think it was worth it, it’s fun to proofread. Thanks for reading ♥

Who is your favorite/least favorite NPC, and why?

i would say my favorite npc is the Moth seer, she’s just a silly old lady, and she’s kind. Also moths are the most amazing things on earth.

my least favorite would have to be the moss prophet. Not much reason other than the fact he literally gives no lore but some insane ramblings.

was having a weird dream (idk what it was about) when one of the characters (yes character, not a person, again idk) said "there's a spider on your bed" and it scared me so bad (im arachnophobic) that I woke up (4 am)

I was gonna go back to sleep, really I was (waking up due to spiders in dreams is common), but I was maybe a tad paranoid about it (I have an anxiety disorder), so I turned on the light (right beside my bed, didn't get up) and looked around me: no spider

and so just for the hell of it ig, I glance up at the ceiling (the spiders love to hang in the corners) when lo and behold, a spider, some freaky black thing that was bigger than I could deal with on my own (im able to handle mini spiders, I just no think pretend they're ants and squash, it's taken much effort to get to this point 😔), chilling ABOVE THE DOOR (I could not leave)

So im standing on the far side of my room (away from the spider as possible), desperately texting my mother (she has sleep troubles and doesn't get to sleep til around this time, I was hoping she was still awake), and just overall crying bc im the worst fucking psychic out there

then he moves away from the door (terrifying, I hated watching him move but didn't dare take my eyes off in case he vanished (or fell down, bro had a terrible grip)) and I steel my nerves (this took a moment) before running out and waking my mother so she could help me (i felt very bad about, but she woke up as soon as she heard my door open)

Hemlock - Use to paralyze a situation and a funeral herb. Highly Toxic.  Element Water.   

Henbane - Dried leaves are used in the consecration of ceremonial vessels. Used in love sachets and charms to gain the love of the person desired. Highly Toxic. Element Water.  

Hibiscus - Attracting love and lust.  Use in divination. Associated with lunar magic.  Element Water. 

High John - (The Conqueror) An "all purpose" herb.  Use it for strength, confidence, conquering any situation.  Good luck, prosperity and protection. Element Fire.   

Holly Hock - Protecting, all Fairy magic, abundance, personal growth and aids passing. Related to Lammas. Element Earth. 

Horehound - Protective against evil doings. Helps with mental clarity during ritual; stimulates creativity/inspiration; balances personal energies and healing.  Element Earth.  

Horsetail - Use for strength and resolve. Protection, cleansing and clearing unwanted emotions.  Element Earth.

It's crazy to me how well the magic in Tactical Breach Wizards can fit the characters using it even though that magic lacks distinct "personality markers" like they do in some pieces of media.

(SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE STORY OF TBW)

Take Zan, for example. Every one of his abilities is based around resolving the problem directly in front of him, with explicit benefits for finishing it's purpose as quickly as possible (refunding false prophets and re-using Predictive Bolts if they go off before the end of the turn), with a distinctive lack of use in any area beyond the short term. this fits both with his second-long precognition but also his tendency as a character; he's always capable of solving the problem in front of him, but completely incapable of recognizing the strategy beyond that. in the (real) tutorial, he fucks up and hesitates because he can't recognize that Liv getting kidnapped is probably a way better outcome than the hostage he was sent to rescue dying, leading to both happening. before he meets Jen in Rushwater, he's basically just chasing behind Liv & Co with no plan on how to actually stop her or even an idea of what she's planning! Even after meeting Jen and heading to Liboli, it's just one very well-executed plan to get closer to Liv after another, with minimal planning beyond completing the immediate goals (get to the blacksite, eavesdrop on Reactor, get to Kalan, etc...) it isn't until you meet other characters like Dall and Moss that the party has anything resembling a longterm plan.

Effectively, Zans powers and mindset make him the ultimate operator, capable of carrying out any mission but utterly incapable of anything past that and it really sells it constantly.

i. A STRANGER IN THE WAKE

The air in the bayou was thick and hot, clinging to your skin, heavy with the scent of cypress and dampening wood. The Spanish moss bowed toward the water, deep in prayer to the earth. Dragonflies vibrant in colour skimmed the surface of the murky water, thick with algae and repressed secrets in the swollen swamp. The air tasted of humidity and something sour – metallic, like blood. Cicadas sung through the grass, a constant, pulsing sound that swallowed up the silence so as to not give way to the eery nature of the small town.

This place didn’t just live – it remembered. Every bend in the river, every dip of the path, felt like a whisper of something sinister buried in the past.

Just beyond the slough, at the edge where water gave way to land, your father’s house sat helpless, sinking into the earth below. That was, if it could still be called a house. Its bones were warped with fatigue and moisture, porch sunken under years of rain and rot, wood soaked in age and decay. The west-facing exterior cage was scaly with long, fine strips of wood peeling away in burnt pieces under the unforgiving heat of the midday sun. The windows were dressed in dust, like a second curtain, distorting the image of what was behind it. Inside, the air was no cooler than it was out.

The house was full of held breath and solicitude. Whisper something into a room and it would make its way back to you, boundless and unbroken.

Your father being the towns preacher meant that the house had burdened the weight of many unfortunate events – of sickness and disease, of madness, and of death. And it was no different today. An elderly man, rooted within the centre of the town had passed, taking with him a piece of the hearts from his close relations. It wasn’t uncommon for there to be a sermon taken by your father, with the entire population of the town adjoining together in hopes of moving a soul closer to the light. And it was no different in this case.

The wake was held in the church hall, which played an integral part of the decaying ecosystem of the surrounding land. The scent of wilting lilies permeated through the space, the shift and creak of old wooden pews piercing the unnatural silence. Your father led the prayer, voice low and steady. You sat quiet, knees pressed together, observing the stillness of the place.

‘God, strike down the sweet-tongu’d devil.

Let no false prophet infect our blood.

Where lights dim, may Your wrath rise –

and may no sinner go unmark’d’

As he said his last prayer, you stayed observing the bowed heads and silent tears that burnt into the cheeks of the man’s most beloved. It echoed the wind of the river branded with the beginning of one’s true life, devoted to God. The people prayed, and so did you. One did not. You noticed him first by his stillness. A stranger, standing in the back of the church, hands folded, shadowed under the shade of the aching wooden beams. Dressed in full black, broad shoulders held by a heavy stance. He looked like he didn’t belong.

He didn’t bow his head when the prayers came.

Didn’t murmur “Amen” when the prayers were over.

Didn’t even glance at the casket.

All he did was look at you. Admired the sweetness in your eyes. The pureness in your dress, the white hanging loose around your body, protecting you from the eyes of sin. Admired the way your wooden cross hung in the middle of your chest, marking where the ribcage of easy bone began, a gateway to your entire being.

The strongly beating heart.
