oi juju, bom dia!

I once read somewhere that one of the only certainties in life is uncertainty. At the time, I remember that I found it confusing and I didn't insist on understanding what it meant.
Years later I understood.
୨୧ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ୨୧
My breathing was heavy, my eyes were burning, a bitter feeling in my throat, and my heart was pounding.
His eyes were shining, his breathing was labored and he still remained nervous. He was waiting for my answer...
"Yes" I said, I didn't think, I just said.
He smiled, put the ring on my finger, and it fit perfectly.
He got up and kissed me, a kiss so desperate and passionate it gave me chills, I don't know why.
"Come on, let's tell everyone" He dropped his hand that was around my neck to my hand that didn't have the bouquet.
"Go first, I need to process that this actually happened." I said with an excited voice and a clearly fake smile, both.
He nodded and kissed the top of my head and left, I could hear him screaming, "SHE SAID YES", everyone was screaming and applauding.
I looked at my watch, it was 11:59 pm, we were here for almost an hour, I didn't want to go there right now...
I could hear them screaming as they counted down the seconds to the new year.
3!
...
2!
...
1!
"FELIZ ANO NOVO" (HAPPY NEW YEAR) Shouts, whistles, loud music.
I smiled to myself, I knew that Bruce was looking for me, but I also knew that my mother convinced him to leave me alone for a while, she knew that I appreciated my moments alone.
I know I should have been there, but I didn't want to, didn't want eyes focused entirely on me, congratulating me all the time. Suffocating.
"Hey honey, hurry up, we're late for the party" A blonde girl like 2000s clothes said from across the beach, next to a royal blue car.
I smiled and looked around, thinking it wasn't me, but it was.
I approached and greeted her from afar, she approached and hugged me friendly and then pulled me by the hand to get into the car.
I insisted that I didn't want to go, but when I realized it, I was already in the car with two other girls, one behind the wheel and the other in the copilot.
They talked and as incredible as they seem, they included me too.
They introduced themselves, the blonde was Larissa, the brunette Julia and the redhead, who was the copilot, Olivia.
We arrived at such a party that the first girl said, the brunette who was driving parked the car next to the place, we left and I left the bouquet in the car.
There was a huge queue, but it seemed that the security guard knew the girls, they greeted them and we entered.
Loud music, the smell of sweat, cigarettes and all kinds of drinks that exist was remarkable. Played several famous songs from the 2000s.
Maybe it was a retro ballad?
୨୧ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ୨୧
She was panting, sweaty and thirsty. I looked at the watch on my wrist, it was 3:21. I had talked to my parents and Bruce about where I was, I lied a little bit. I had said that I had found some friends and we left, they were worried but I ignored it.
I spoke with the girls that I would go to the bar to get a drink, I asked if they wanted it and they denied it.
I walked there, and sat on a bench that was free and waited for the bartender to serve me.
I looked around and I had never noticed that there was a club here in Morro de São Paulo, in all these years. I know there was one years ago, but it had closed.
My gaze landed on the calendar in front of me, it was dark but I could still see it.
On the calendar it said today was January 1, 2008.

One Piece Brazillian AU
In which they are travelling in a van (Merry) and later a bus (Sunny) through all of Brazil. That might be very selfish, but I'm doing it anyway. Thank @majubengel's amazing art for it.
They set pretty good places/locations for each straw hat: Luffy from Belo Horizonte (it's my city and I might be way too happy about it but whatever), Zoro from Salvador, Nami from Belém, Usopp from Brasília, Chopper from Canela, Robin from São Raimundo Nonato, Franky from São Paulo, Jinbei from Fortaleza and Brook from Cu de Judas (don't look this up btw it's not a real place it means judas' ass hole and it's just an expression to a very distant isolated place nobody knows), they also said Doflamingo is from Rio de Janeiro
From my own: Vivi is from Vitória, Yamato is from Curitiba, Law is from Niterói, Kid and Killer are from Recife, Shirahoshi is from Manaus, Perona is from Ouro Preto, Ace is from Uberaba, Sabo is also from Belo Horizonte and Carrot is from Porto Velho.
Skypiea is Fernando de Noronha, Wano is the state of Paraná, Alabasta is the state of Espírito Santo, Enies Lobby is STF (Supremo Tribunal Federal/Supreme Federal Court), Ohara is Serra da Capivara, Marineford is Forte Caxias, Sabaody is Florianópolis, Punk Hazard is Urupema, Dressrosa is Rio de Janeiro, Zou is the state of Rondônia, Whole Cake happens in Pantanal, Egghead is Campinas, Elbaf is Gramado and Impel Down is Centro de Confinamento de Terrorismo (yes I googled that)
Names on this AU:
Luffy - Luz
Zoro - Zacarias
Nami - Naomi
Usopp - Uirapuru
Sanji - Sales
Chopper - Chauá
Robin - Roberta
Franky - Francisco
Brook - Breu
Jinbei - Jair
Vivi - Viviane
Yamato - same (decided to keep his name cuz of a reason I'm telling later)
Law - Laurie
Bonney - Bombom
Kid - Kaique
Killer - Kevin
Shirahoshi - Iara (this is based off the main siren/mermaid tale in Brazil who's name is Iara)
Perona - Petra
Ace - Alex
Sabo - Saulo
Carrot - Coral
Doflamingo - Douglas (he uses Doflamingo though cuz he thinks Douglas is a poor people name)
Crocodile - Crocodilo (didn't change much cuz he is trans here and he'd choose that name)
Marco - he can keep his name.
Enel - Enem (Not a real name but I had to make that joke cuz that's the name of brazillian national exam for college and also everyone's greatest fear)
Lucci - Lúcio
Hancock - Anahí (it looks to have no relation, but I like the name and you'll see an explanation later)
Pudding - Pudim (poor girl)
Katakuri - Amido (ok, I looked up his ethimology and its some kind of plant used to make flour. I didn't want to, but now the guy is gonna get bullied for a completely different reason. Sorry dude)
Big Mom - Mãezona (I'm so sorry)
Marshall D. Teach - Marcos
Kaidou - Kaito
Some other notes: non-human species are now brazillian folklore creatures. Perona is some kind of loira do banheiro (with the difference that she is alive). The Wano people are all of japanese descendant (Brazil is the place with most japanese people outside of Japan in the world). Doflamingo is basically a dono do morro very influencial in all favelas of Rio. The Amazon Lily girls are Icamiabas, who are said to have been a group of indigenous fighting ladies at XVI century who were mistaken to be the amazons. Kept the Charlotte family food theme cuz I want it (has no explanation for it actually). CP-9 is from ABIN (though they are much cooler than ABIN). Ohara is set in Serra da Capivara as it is a historical spot with lots of cave paintings and stuff. Chopper is a veado-bororó-do-sul. Luffy is basically Chico Bento (look him up). Campinas is Egghead cuz it's a technology poll. Gramado is Elbaf cuz its a touristical point because of its influence from european immigrants' culture. Law is from Niterói cause... well, Niterói and Rio are similar to US's New Jersey and New York. Sorry, Niterói, you get a horrible death from bio weapon, swear it's nothing personal (I also wanted to "parallel" revolta da vacina). Chose Ouro Preto to the setting of Thriller Bark due to it being full of ghost stories, old buildings (like, centuries old) and stuff. Sea Lords are Boiuna and Minhocão. One of Hancock's sisters is basically the Princesa Encantada de Jericoacoara. Her place was taken by Mihawk and that's Kuraigana Island. Fishman Island is Manaus.
Please ask things about this I got lots of ideas.

Health Professionals and Residents Bring Palliative Care to Patients in Brazilian Favelas
The Compassionate Communities project started in Rocinha, in Rio, and has a partnership with the public network
A network of volunteers composed of health professionals and residents of favelas has provided palliative care to patients at the end of their lives, many of whom have been living in complete social abandonment.
The Compassionate Communities, as they are called, already exist in favelas such as Rocinha and Morro do Vidigal, in Rio de Janeiro, Cabana do Pai Tomás, in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais), and on the outskirts of Goiânia (Goiás). It is also in the process of being implemented in Paraisópolis, a community in the south zone of São Paulo. The concept stems from the principle that society itself can be the great engine of change, and that compassion is an essential element for this. The project relies on donations and partnerships with the public health network.

...
“At night one way, during the day another. This will be the rule until you find your true love's kiss.” – Fiona.
୨୧ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ୨୧
I felt different, I don't know how to explain it, I just felt it.
Last night, after arriving in Morro, we checked in at the inn and went to the street, we stayed all night in a restaurant eating and laughing, a perfect night I would say.
My parents stayed by my side the whole time, along with Bruce.
Riri didn't show any signs, despite knowing that she was with me every day when I was listening to music while reading a book before bed.
Amelia on the other hand, wanted to tell me something, something that no one knew and was struggling to keep it a secret.
And stopping to analyze it, I realized that I wasn't ready to go back to New York again, my days there were gray and cold, even though Amelia and Bruce had colored my days there more.
୨୧ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ୨୧
Amélia and I decided to stay at the inn, while the rest of the family was at the beach.
Relaxing in the sun, facing the pool that was completely empty.
We didn't need to talk to not get uncomfortable, it was just me and her.
"All good." Riri appeared abruptly, Amelia and I screamed.
"WHAT THE FUCK" We said together.
"I feel like something will happen tonight, I'm not sure, they don't want to say." Riri was wearing a beach hat and sunglasses. "They said no was on my level to know, honestly saw."
Riri lay down next to me in the chair, and relaxed. Amelia and I were still recovering from the scare.
After that we started laughing, Riri looked at us like we were crazy.
Perhaps yes.
"I feel it too, Riri." I said as I leaned back in my chair. "But I don't know what it is either..."
We stayed talking and then we went into the pool, when it was lunch time we got out of the pool, dried off and went to the house we were.
We took turns taking showers, Riri just showed up in her usual "outfit".
I wanted power like that.
We had lunch and went to rest in the room, closed everything and turned on the TV and the air conditioning and put on a movie.
For some reason, I felt connected to this movie.
Midnight in Paris, an incredible film by a writer who travels through the night to the 1920s.
The movie ended and we decided to get some sleep.
୨୧ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ୨୧
When we woke up, it was 3pm and no one was back yet, we decided to get ready and go out for a bit.
We went to several stores, bought some things for ourselves and some friends for when we return to NY.
And when we stopped to notice, it was 6:55 pm, my mother had called me to let me know that she had arrived, Amelia and I decided to go back.
And when we arrived, Bruce came right up to hug me, which I gladly returned.
We all went to pack the clothes we were going to wear later, after that we sat at a table and the children went to play with other children who were also at the inn.
Some chatted and others played cards.
Amelia and I share a headset while we talk to Riri through the Mp3.
Riri went back to talking to me as if nothing had happened. Ugh, cocky.
୨୧ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ୨୧
It was a few minutes before 9 pm, we were all at the beach, some were wearing colorful colors, others were champagne and others were white. Some colors represented some things for the coming year.
I wore a mixture of champagne and white.
Champagne: Stability.
White: Peace.
Bruce had an arm around my shoulder, we were talking to some people he and my family met on the beach this morning.
A few women were looking at him, older women. I should feel insecure, not least because he's 15 years older than me.
I'm 32 and he's 47, he didn't look that old, he looked much younger than he really is.
They glared at him, he didn't seem to notice, I put my arm around his waist, they looked at me with envy and I just gave a cynical smile.
"Are you well?" He whispered in my ear, I just smiled sweetly and sealed his lips to mine, telling him I was fine.
୨୧ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ୨୧
It was 11 pm sharp, I was with my parents, they were nervous, and when it was 11 pm they told me to go to a corner that had a huge rock, there was no one there.
As I was walking there I noticed Bruce with his back to me, I knew he was tense. I didn't know why, or I just didn't want to put the pieces together.
"Bruce?" I whispered his name, I approached and touched his shoulder, we only heard the sound of the sea, so he had heard me.
He relaxed and turned around, he had a bunch of white roses in one hand and a velvet box in the other.
I was paralyzed.
He handed me the bouquet, which I soon took with still no reaction.
He got down on one knee and opened the box, revealing an engagement ring. It was a white gold solitaire ring with 35 stones set with diamonds. I had seen it in the vivara at the airport when we arrived in Brazil.
He seems to have bought it when I wasn't around. As soon as he knelt down and showed the ring, he soon uttered the three words that seemed so simple to say, but so heavy to hear.
"Will you marry me?" Bruce spoke calmly, I could feel a lone tear running down my face...
Shit!

Me faz saudosa, Rio
