Is Your Heroine a TRUE Heroine?
In the first chapter of Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen lays out all the criteria of being a HEROINE, almost all of which poor Catherine Morland does not meet. I have adapted these criteria into a simple yes or no test, which you can apply to your favourite heroine. Here is the test and the results for some Jane Austen, Brontë, and Gaskell heroines/female characters
Abusive parent/guardian - 1 point for each abusive parent or guardian, Dead parents - 1 point for each dead parent, and then 1 point for each of the following: Great Personal Beauty, Poor family, Heroic care of animals/nature, Taste for gardens, Extraordinarily intelligent, Plays music/sings, Draws/does art, Focused on schooling, Calm and quiet, Reads poetry
There are 12 criteria, though the possible score can be higher (for example, if you have lost a mother, father, and stepmother, that would count as 3 dead parents)
Jane Eyre, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë Heroine Score: 11
Tumblr media
Helen Graham, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë  Heroine Score: 10
Tumblr media
Jane Fairfax, Emma by Jane Austen, Heroine Score: 9
Tumblr media
Agnes Grey, Agnes Grey by Anne Brontëm, Heroine Score: 9
Tumblr media
Anne Elliot, Persuasion by Jane Austen,  Heroine Score: 8
Tumblr media
Mary Crawford, Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, Heroine Score: 8
Tumblr media
Molly Gibson, Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell and Fanny Price of Mansfield Park by Jane Austen Heroine Score: 7
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heroine Score: 6, Emma Woodhouse of Emma, Marianne Dashwood of Sense & Sensibility, Elinor Tilney of Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen, and Cynthia Kirkpatrick, Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell
Tumblr media
And then with Heroine Scores of 5 or less, we have Elinor Dashwood (5) of Sense and Sensibility, Catherine Morland (2) of Northanger Abbey and Jane & Elizabeth Bennet (2) of Pride and Prejudice
Tumblr media
Example Data:
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: you must use your own judgement for some answers. For example, does Anne Elliot count as poor since her father is heavily in debt? Also, some data is not readily available, we don’t know if Elizabeth Bennet reads poetry or not (my guess is no).These are my best estimates given the available data in each novel. Also, Jane Eyre is generally calm and quiet, she just has explosions sometimes, so I gave her that point.
Please add ratings of your own heroines if you want! I haven’t read Wuthering Heights so I can’t do the heroine scores.

Hiiii. How are you doing? Question time!
Do you feel inspired for your story by TV series and movies? Have you incorporated any of these into your story, like a plot or a character?
hi lu! omg, thank you so much for this question!!
it's not directly tv series/movies, but i seek inspiration for many of my sims in characters from books - basically, british victorian literature -, which have tv/movies adaptations.
many of my sims bios (usually spares) are based on some literature character. mostly because they don't have the support of the challenges goals to make up their personality; so i often recur to books i love to invent their personalities.
my occult legacy spin-off is entirely based on classic gothic books like wuthering heights, frankenstein, the picture of dorian gray - so, the legacy sims in this spin-off will be somewhat inspired by some of those books characters.
for anyone interested in my ramblings 😉:
charlie harper's character was entirely built to be emma woodhouse (emma, jane austen);
isaura harper had a bit of helen graham (the tenant of wildfell hall, anne bronte) in her character construction;
ulysses harper would be a sort of edward ferrars (sense and sensibility, jane austen) or a male version of fanny price (mansfield park, jane austen);
zelda harper has a lot of jo march (little women, louisa may alcott) and elizabeth bennet (pride and prejudice, jane austen) in her;
grace harper was inspired in marianne dashwood (sense and sensibility, jane austen);
leo harper was developed to become a less vain version of sir walter elliot, (persuasion, jane austen);
paris harper has some hints of pip (great expectations, charles dickens);
katherine harper is heavily inspired in catherine morland (northanger abbey, jane austen);
heathcliff harper is absolutely inspired in emily bronte's heathcliff (wuthering heights, emily bronte) but my clee-clee is not cruel;
stella harper was heavily influenced by mary datcher (night and day, virginia woolf).
and that's all i can think of now... i really loved this question!! 😊

This day in Classics of Rock…
March 28th
2013 - Hugh McCracken
American rock guitarist and session musician Hugh McCracken died of leukemia in New York City at the age of 70. He appeared on many recordings by Steely Dan, Donald Fagen, Billy Joel, Roland Kirk, Roberta Flack, B. B. King, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, The Monkees, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, James Taylor, Phoebe Snow, Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, Graham Parker, Eric Carmen, Loudon Wainwright III, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison, The Four Seasons, Hall and Oates, Gary Wright and Andy Gibb. Because of such high demand for his work, McCracken declined Paul McCartney's invitation to help form his new band, Wings after appearing on his 1971 album Ram.
2000 - Jimmy Page
Jimmy Page accepted substantial undisclosed libel damages from a magazine which claimed he had caused or contributed to the death of his Led Zeppelin bandmate John Bonham. Page's solicitor, Norman Chapman, told High Court Judge Mr Justice Morland that the feature in Ministry magazine printed in 1999 claimed Page was more concerned with keeping vomit off his bed than saving his friend's life, and that he stood over him wearing Satanist robes and performing a useless spell.
1992 - Ozzy Osbourne
Over a $100,000 (£58,800) worth of damage was caused at The Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, California, when Ozzy Osbourne invited the first two rows of the audience on stage. Several others took up the offer and the band was forced to exit the stage.
1976 - Phil Collins
Genesis began their first North American tour since Peter Gabriel left the band, appearing in Buffalo, New York, with Phil Collins taking over as lead singer.
1973 - Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin released their fifth studio album, Houses Of The Holy in the UK. The album title was a dedication by the band to their fans who appeared at venues they dubbed 'Houses of the Holy'. The cover is a collage of several photographs which were taken at the Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland, by Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis. The two children who modelled for the cover were siblings Stefan and Samantha Gates.
1970 - Simon and Garfunkel
Simon and Garfunkel were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', the duo's only UK No.1. Only Art Garfunkel sang on the track.
1968 - Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd recorded a performance for the BBC 2 TV Omnibus - The Sound of Change show from Barnes Common, London, England. The special, which was produced by Tony Palmer, also featured performances by The Who, Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The show was later broadcast in September of this year.
1967 - The Beatles
Working on sessions for the new Beatles album Sgt. Pepper at Abbey Road studios in London, John Lennon recorded his lead vocal for ‘Good Morning Good Morning’, and Paul McCartney added a lead guitar solo to the track. Lennon had decided he wanted to end the song with animal sound effects, and asked that they be sequenced in such a way that each successive animal was capable of scaring or eating the preceding one.

Bonsoir
Ou jour. Whatever.
Okay. So I finally decided to get myself a Tumblr. Even though no one told me to. Fine, that was a lie. My sister Marinette, who doesn't even know what fanfiction is, did tell me to. But apparently I didn't listen till now, cos I'm completely out of ideas. I have presently, three Beth/Laurie brewing, one on-going and one finished, you can see 'em here; and a lot of Shieldshock that I'm trying really hard to finish.
But anyway, at the meantime I'll be posting little drabbles here, so feel free to send me Shieldshock or Beth/Laurie (I have zero idea what the ship name is) or Mary Bennet/Colonel Fitzwilliam or Brutasha or Jane Austen canon relatinships or FitzSimmons prompts, or maybe spam me, I don't mind. 😆🌚

I swear, I feel like I’m such a random fangirl when it comes to my interests, especially since COVID started.
I’ve been rewatching Elementary and have fallen ass of tea kettle into those old feels, to the point where I’m very tempted to write fanfic for it.
The plot bunny that’s been growing in my head is the idea of an AU where Joan came to Sherlock not as a sober companion but as an Irregular. I feel like the show is so amazing with its progression of their platonic relationship, I wouldn’t want to miss that up by trying to rework canon for a more romantic angle.
I’m not disappointed that they didn’t have a romance. Again, I adore where they ended up and how they got there. That’s why there’s fanfiction: to explore other possibilities. Plus I’ve been researching other characters in the Sherlock Holmes canon, and one person in particular, Alec MacDonald, has jumped out at me as a potential starting point. I’ve already reworked him to be an inspector/mentor for Sherlock, maybe even worked on his mother’s case, which is how they met. I also love the idea of him being queer and in a relationship with Alastair. (Perhaps Sherlock even introduced them?) I have this scene brewing in my head of Sherlock showing up on their doorstep in NYC not unlike the story Alistair told Joan in 1x06 and this prompting the pair to contact Morland. Perhaps even staging an intervention with Morland’s (financial) support. (I loathe that man, regardless of how the show tried to tidy up their relationship. He doesn’t get off that easy with me.)
With Joan, I’d really like to explore her as being a former member of the military, possibly with her own struggles with addiction. Perhaps she and Sherlock could have an encounter at a meeting that she leads? Somehow they end up working a case together, and he has adds her to his little network. I love the idea of Sherlock keeping in contact with Alec and Alistair and constantly bringing up “this Irregular” he’s found to be quite useful as of late. The gay papas find this very encouraging but given what they know about Irene, they try not to push anything too hard, so as not to spook Sherlock.
I don’t know, it just sounds like a fun idea. It’s all very random, much like my re-entering a fandom after a show has ended. 😅
I’ll defo post if anything comes of this. I’ve been trying to get back into writing for pleasure on a more regular basis, this might be just the ticket!
Ps- This is who I picture for Alec: Graham McTavish (shout-out to my fellow Outlander fans!)

SAMARA LUBELSKI + METABOLISMUS + GLORIAS NAVALES /
Le Non_Jazz - - - - - lundi 19-Nov 2018 20:00 portes ... .. SAMARA LUBELSKI / us GLORIAS NAVALES / cl METABOLISMUS / de us Les Nautes 1, Quai des Célestins 75004 M° Sully-Morland 6€ P.A.F. Pour la sortie de son 45T "Did You See / Spectacular of Passages" Forced Exposure disait : "A sweet little dose of hushed and fragile melancholy folk-pop-drone fluttering. Samara's unmistakable slow-bliss songforms are at their most stripped down and psychedelically entwined, with thick hovering violin tones, distant reverbed atmospheres and gentle swirls of quivering guitar feedback all lifting things just high enough. Totally bleary-eyed and beautiful, hitting that perfect spot just between your heart and gut."
METABOLISMUS / de us stuttgart
"Whether it be lo-fi pop, free improvisation, sixties psychedelia or music concrete tape manipulation, like the Sun City Girls (who formed around the same year) Metabolismus 'metabolizes music' of all styles, shapes and forms; for this release, they transform Crass' screed 'Do They Owe Us a Living' into a Canterbury classic and resituate Brian Brain's 'Asthma Game' into the delicate pastoral landscape of their native Germany" (AMISH RECORDS)

GLORIAS NAVALES/ cl  santiago
" The group get together regularly in a private space in Santiago to jam out a type of late night campfire trance music, bridging the gap aesthetically and stylistically between Chilean folk music (ala Violeta Parra) and ramshackle post-Velvets psychedelia. Their sound – crafted on acoustic guitars, violin and stomp box – have resulted in stunning releases; ‘Carta a Maureen Tucker’ ETCS and ‘Cofradia Nautical’ on Graham Lambkin’s KYE label. Join us for a raw, unvarnished walkway straight into heart the of the contemporary Chilean underground. " (Cafe OTO)
Suspense ... ..
