PART TWO TO “LIKE A KNIFE”
__________________________________________________________________________
You don’t know why you were waiting for a call.
Maybe a call telling you he was sorry.
A call explaining why he was acting this way.
A call telling you he loved you.
But there was nothing.
There was still radio silence two weeks after your official but unofficial breakup with Michael.
Which you supposed was to be expected. Michael was the one who pushed you away. So why should you expect him to be the one coming back to you? But you wouldn’t be the one crawling back to his feet, begging him to take you back. That would be just stupid.
Plus, you were a grown woman with a job and responsibilities. You couldn’t just leave that behind because Michael decided to break your heart.
But you knew that just made you bitter.
Your phone rang, and you picked it up without thinking or looking at the screen.
“Hello?” You say, and your name spoken through the receiver has you almost dropping your wine glass. It’s late at night, and you thought you could indulge yourself in some alcohol before bed. It wasn’t like you had work tomorrow, given it’s Saturday.
“Morbius?” You whisper and hear a relieved sigh,
“It’s me.” He says simply, and you grip the wine glass in your hand tighter.
“I’m hanging up.” You say and hear the panic in his voice when he replies.
“Wait, don’t—”
You click the end call button and almost immediately see Michael’s face light up on your screen. The picture makes your heart ache. He had surprised you with a surprise trip to Europe, and you were kissing him in front of the Eiffel Tower.
You declined the call again. But when your phone lit up for the third time, you hesitated. Was something wrong? Why else would he be calling you so much?
So you pick up.
“What do you want, Morbius?” You say curtly, and the relief is palpable in his voice.
“Don’t hang up, please.” He says softly, and you set your wine glass down, leaning against the kitchen counter.
“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t.” You say bitterly and can practically imagine him running his free hand through his hair.
“You have every right to. I hurt you.” He says, guilt heavy in his tone.
You almost scoff,
“You did. You scared me, Morbius. So what do you want?” You ask and hear him swallow audibly.
“I want to meet you. Only if you want. I want to talk about everything. You deserve an explanation.” He says, and you straighten up.
“Why explain now? Why couldn’t you explain when I came to see you two weeks ago?” You snap, and he’s silent for a moment.
“Just—please.” Is all he says, and against your will, your heart breaks at the wavering tone in his voice.
“Alright.” You say quietly and hang up with a click.
He texts you the address to a park just down the street from your apartment and asks to meet at nine o’clock PM. You glance at the clock on your phone. Eight-thirty, you’d have to leave in ten minutes, but Michael’s office AND apartment were on the other side of the city. There was no way he’d make it in time.
But, surprisingly, he’s waiting precisely at nine o’clock. So you walk up to the bench he’s at at the agreed meeting time and sit down, pulling your purse into your lap as you watch the cars pass. The park is empty, and the streetlights illuminate the area in a harsh orange glow.
“Martine and Milo are both dead.” He starts, and you whip to look at him, mouth dropping open slightly in shock. Martine had been one of your closest friends and confidants. She had been one of the people rooting for you and Michael.
And Milo… Well, he was a bit odd, but he was friendly and constantly teased Michael about his relationship with you. He was like a brother to Michael. They loved each other as siblings would.
“H—how? When? Were they murdered?” Your questions tumbled out one after the other until you bit your tongue to keep from speaking. Then, finally, Michael leaned his elbows on his knees and put his head in his hands.
“Milo murdered Martine. And I killed Milo.” He whispered, and you recoiled as if slapped.
“I—I don’t understand.” You reply, and he looks at you. His eyes are red-rimmed, and he looks like he’s about to cry.
“You know when you came to see me? My face changed?” He asked, and you nodded, tightening your grip on your purse. You had nightmares about the face he had made. The blood-red eyes and the fangs… It reminded you of a monster.
“I remember.” You say quietly, and he runs a hand through his hair.
“I developed a new treatment in an attempt to cure my blood disease. I spliced DNA from vampire bats and created a serum. It worked… But it turned me into this.” He said and gestured to his body.
“What do you mean? Turned you into what?” You ask, and he bites the inside of his cheek.
“I can’t live without consuming blood. I tried drinking the artificial blood I created, but it doesn’t work anymore. I need… well, I need human blood now.” He says finally, and you have to stop from recoiling.
“You’re a vampire now?” You blurt, and he huffs out a laugh,
“I guess in a way.” He says and turns on the bench to face you. You almost pull away.
Almost. But something tells you to wait, and so you do.
Michael reaches forward with a hesitant hand and takes yours in his. His hands are much larger than yours. He watches your fingers entwined with his with some sort of longing.
It made you hurt.
It made your heart ache and constrict in your chest.
“You called me Morbius on the phone.” He says suddenly, and you blink at the sudden change in conversation.
“I figured I lost the privilege to call you Michael.” You whisper, and his face twists in pain. He looks completely and utterly heartbroken.
“You never lost that.” He replies and places his free hand on your cheek. His hands are rough and calloused. They aren’t a surgeon's hands anymore. They’re fighting hands.
You lean into his touch, reaching up to cradle his hand with your own.
“I—I don’t know if I can forgive you, Michael. At least not yet.” You say, and he nods. You take a breath. “But I’d like to start over. Fresh. Build something new.” You finish, and his eyes brighten, hope sparkling in those deep depths that you loved so much.
“Okay.” He says, and you smile.

everyone is making jokes abt goncharov saying "it's gonchin time" and yeah i get it haha morbius reference but why is no one talking about how morbius basically stole 50% of its screenplay from goncharov and just... fucked it up so bad it was almost unrecognisable

Morbius (2022)
Tumblr media
Date Watched: 10/18/2022
Gay: 0/10. You'll never be venom
Twilight Influences: None
Enjoyment: 2/10. It's morbin time. I really wanted to rank this lower but it's just too competent. Sure I never want to rewatch it and now I've done that twice but now that I have some perspective, it's not that bad. It is in no way a good movie or a fun vampire movie but it is decent at being a movie. It's really just boring. Apart from a handful of terrible line deliveries and the have sex ekse scen there's just nothing there. But it's not that bad.
Vampires: See this is difficult. It is in no way basic but it's also so ugly. I hate the cgi but everything besides the face is kinda cool. They use it in a boring way but it looks so cool. 4/10
No sire rule
Representative of 2020s? too early to tell
Relative Popularity? Very well known but no one has seen it.

"It's Morbin' time."
I liked the part when he Morbed on those guys.
No, really, I actually watched Morbius. I figured there's no point seeing 365 movies in a year if I'm not going to include the single greatest accomplishment of film-making released in it. It wasn't the most offensively bad thing I've ever seen, like some would have you believe, but it was certainly a shitty movie.
The plot made very little sense, none of the characters had comprehensible motivation for their actions, and things just sort of happened like they had a script framework they had to fill out, because they probably did. The tone shift between any two scenes was completely unpredictable, and it was never clear why anybody was reacting the way they were to the insane shit taking place.
Multiple people watched somebody Morbing out (literally transforming into a Nosferatu looking monster) and just took it ridiculously casually. When he jumped like 25 storeys up a stairwell, the cops said "Hold your fire!", like they were dealing with a regular fleeing guy and not a magic vampire. The best part is that approximately ten seconds later the main cop was somehow up there on the roof confronting him.
Jared Leto seemed incapable of emoting even before he became a CGI monster, and I found him as annoying as always. Matt Smith, despite already looking vampiric to begin with, was horribly cast as the villain who entirely lacked motive. Turns out his stupid dance scene is just as funny in the movie as it was context-free on youtube, because it actually has no context. It just hard cuts from a serious laboratory scene to him dancing and Morbing out, to remind you he exists.
Adria Arjona was pretty good, but her character was presented as a love interest without bothering to include any actual relationship development. I hope appearing in this didn't hurt her career too badly, though it looks like she might be signed up for a sequel if and when one eventuates.
There were these two cops that kept showing up, but ultimately they contributed absolutely nothing to the movie. I think they may have been intended as audience surrogates or comedic relief, but whatever the plan was it didn't work.
All the fights were dull and entirely rendered in terrible CGI. You couldn't really follow what was happening spatially because of the way everything was just muddled blobs smacking against each other in dim lighting. It all looked shocking dated.
Morbius had the power of flight because he had bat DNA and bats can fly. Obviously that's the thing that lets the bats fly, right? Their genes and ability to... see wind currents? The wings are really just for show, everyone knows that.
Even the end credits were a confusing mess; Neon vector graphics bombarded the screen like we just watched some retro 80's callback, accompanied by music that made me think I was in a day spa awaiting a relaxing mud bath.
The most egregious sin of Morbius is that it had not one but TWO sequel hooks, assuredly planting the seed for the living vampire's triumphant return to the silver screen, and a cinematic universe capable of effortlessly overthrowing Marvel and DC.
A literally perfect piece of pure kino that everybody should immediately watch. Also an entertainingly shitty movie.

Notes: HEADCANONS BECAUSE I CAN’T FOCUS TODAY
I’m sorry it’s short, but I really couldn’t figure out how to make it longer.
__________________________________________________________________________
When you wake up, you’re on the floor.
What?
Why are you on the floor?
What had happened?
Your lab coat has been removed, your feet are elevated, and your belt is loosened.
Even more confusing.
But it gets less confusing when you spot your lover and fellow doctor, Michael Morbius, at your side.
He looks concerned but relaxes when you open your eyes.
“I was getting worried there for a second.” He teases you and helps you sit up. You notice gauze and wrapping around your right hand.
You ask what happened, and he looks concerned again, brows furrowing and lips pulling down in a frown.
“You cut your hand and passed out. I wasn’t sure if it was because of light-headedness or the blood. I took some precautions just in case.” He explains, and you nod.
That would explain the loose belt and removed lab coat. It would also explain the raised feet.
You sit cross-legged on the floor of your lab and lean into Michael’s chest.
“You had me worried.” He says, and you hum.
“I’ve always been scared of blood. The sight of it makes my stomach turn. It normally doesn’t make me pass out, though.” You explain, and he shrugs, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you close, his legs extended before you as he leans against the wall.
“It seems you have a case of Hemophobia. The fear of blood.” He says matter of factly, and you laugh.
“No shit, Sherlock.” You tease and delight in the way he laughs.

idk why but the Sony marvel movies always get me with the random medical thing they mention 💀.
Like online other people made fun of Morbius when he talks about his illness the whole “until they find it, the only way to stay alive is an oil change three times a day.” Which I understand how dumb it is.
HOWEVER, I watched morbius during one of the weeks when I was getting my infusions. So like I understood in a sense. I could relate to having a medical condition that weakened you. He had his infusions three times a day and I had mine a week straight every month where I had a PIV just stuck in my hand. That euphoria at strength at being normal reminded me of myself with my own medications that made such a great difference within my own life.
seeing a character with a physical disability in that way that needed infusions felt like a sucker punch bc that was me when I was watching that movie. Sat in that theatre with a PIV in my hand after hours hooked to a machine and it felt like connection.
Watching Madame Web also similar thing. Myasenthia Gravis. That felt like such a slap in the face bc while I have another condition I’m currently in a clinical trial for a medication that is already FDA approved for MG. Like when discussing my condition I’ve read a lot of blogs and information of ppl with MG. my friend turned to me in the theatre to like laugh at the part where she finds out her mom went to Peru to find a cure for her MG and that wasn’t funny for me. That was reality that was a mom’s love for her kid. That’s a real medical condition that I find a lot of connection with my own.
like I always find the connection and I’m like 😟 bc I don’t expect it. I don’t expect for the shitty (but fun) movie to be applicable and relatable to my life but it is
