Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, in Transkei, South Africa. He joined the African National Congress in 1942, after becoming involved in the anit-apartheid movement. He directed a campaign of peaceful defiance against the South African government and its racist policies. In 1993, Mandela and South African President F.W. de Klerk were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1994, Mandela became South Africa's first black president. He died in his home in Johannesburg on December 5, 2013, at age 95.

What is a Moral Hero?
A moral hero is an selfless, inspirational person who has sacrificed something, big or small, for the enhancement of others. They improve society socially, spiritually, mentally, economically, politically or environmentally. A moral hero inspires people to support and stand up for what they believe in. They inspire others do what is right, no matter what the circumstances are. Some examples of moral heroes are Iqbal Masih, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr and Malala Yousafzai.
