"Aww, he's napping." Moon leaned over to give SkekTek a gentle kiss on the side of his beak. "Well, that means we should check on Azira, SkekSa, and Yami."

"And, Undyne." Mars clarified. Her long fingers continued to fiddle with the ring Lord X had given her, almost like a tic. This wasn't the first time the half-Urru had trouble like this with small, pretty gift-objects. Sometimes Moon wondered if her sister was more like a raven than she was.

The half-Skeksis choose to say nothing, though, out of fear she might be calling the kettle black. "I think the pirate needs to know we're able to talk to the Wanderer and the Heratic."

"In case she gets lonely, and wants to talk to them, too?

"Yeah."

About half past midnight, a little, black motorbike with a guitar and speakers haphazardly strapped to the back pulled up to the castle. And a half Skeksis, relatively young, with human clothes and human posture and absolutely no idea about the Emperor’s decree regarding finding SkekTek dismounted. She was looking more at her open map than at the door when she knocked. “Hello? Anyone home? I think I took a wrong turn somewhere down the road. I have no idea where the heck I am.”

I remember this one anarchist villain in the moon knight comics. He gets all the extremists from all over the world, including right wing and left-wing extremists to destroy establishment. His power armor design is very toyetic and he has a harem of 3 women to act as his bodyguards. One of the women is one of Moon Knight’s agents he has undercover. He fails but is fun to watch as a villain. It’s nice to see villains like that I wish we got more.

i read this great comic recently called “birds of maine” by michael deforge and i really recommend it, especially if you’re a bird nerd. its basically the dispossessed by ursula leguin if it was about birds and done in a daily 6-panel style.

you can read it here - it’ll take a bit of scrolling to get to the first panels but i definitely recommend reading from the start.

I think one thing people need to realize about this whole “dirtbag left” thing, from the perspective of someone whose been aware of it since it’s rise in popularity in like the mid to late 2010s is that it’s all just kind of like, gay. Like why would you willingly admit to listening to a podcast? How much time do you spend on those twitch streams, again?

She didn't need to be told, Pearl almost automatically plucking a few answering notes on her own stringed instrument for Moon. An easy grin on her face as she looked at each child before back up to Adara.

"Sure. It's never a bad time for music, especially if it can help make new friends."

Moon perked up at this, still heasitant behind her Mother. But the evidence was there, she now felt the inner tug of wanting to step forward. Her confidence just needed to catch up. She adjusted her little guitarlele slightly, pausing to tighten the strings to a satisfacory tension, before plucking a few more strings in response.

"Well! Look at that!" Adara beamed encouragingly. "You know, Moon, my friend Pearl here used to be shy, too. She was brand new in a great, big, new place and didn't know what to do."

"That sounds scary." Mars commented. She'd stopped jumping in the sand, though her swishing, black-tipped tail still displayed her energy.

"It's how we met, actually." The flame woman nodded.

Moon didn't say anything to this, though she strummed her guitarlele with more energy. The instrument seemed to be a comfort object for the little half-Skeksis; a barrier and a means of comunication on her own terms.

Off-season at the beach was not known to draw many people. The chill sand and frigid waters were enough to drive most tourists away.

..Unless you were a tourist with a magical inclination toward warmth.

A red parisol, held by a woman in equally-vibrant shades of crimson floated along the coast. A light breeze ruffled her ink-black hair.

She was not alone. Two small individuals scurried around her like a pair of chicks to their mother hen. Both equally dark-haired, they cast strange shadows as pale sunlight cut trhough the drifting clouds over head: One was taller, bouncier. Unable to stand still in this fun, new environment. She also seemed to have four arms and a tail.... The other, was tiny, quiet, and was clutching a miniscule guitar to her chest as though she feared it would sprout legs and run off at any moment. ...She also appeared to have beak where her mouth should be. ((The Missmatched Quartett)) (sorry this is late)

Off Season. On Season. The beach never lost it's magic for Pearl. Ever since she'd ended up on the planet Earth, it was the landscape that had "spoken" to her the most.

It helped that as a Gem, things like temperature didn't affect her like it would most. So she too walked along in the cold sands, bare feet leaving a trail of solitary foot prints behind her.

It was with surprise when she realized others were on the beach, and it only grew as she neared and recognized the dark haired woman in the distance.

"....Adara...?"

i think in 2021 or 2020 i read Beloved by Toni Morrison and The Dispossessed by Ursula LeGuin and i couldn't stop thinking about them for months.
