Church of St. George, Lalibela, Ethiopia: The Church of Saint George is one of eleven rock-hewn monolithic churches in Lalibela, a town in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Originally named Roha, the historical and religious site was named Lalibela after the King Gebre Mesqel Lalibela of the Zagwe dynasty, who commissioned its construction. Wikipedia

What are your thoughts on Romina? Was she a Hornsent? We actually do see her in that story trailer without obvious horns.
I think Romina is indeed hornsent… when the story trailer is depicting the burning of hornsent lands, we see her holding the bud that became her weapon with her church burning around her:
the Church of the Bud is built in the same style as other hornsent architecture:
(Theatre of the Divine Beast, Divine Bird Warrior Ornis temple)
the Church of the Bud was not originally dedicated to the scarlet rot:
“There was a time when these buds were not touched by the scarlet rot's blight—when they were the symbol of the small church deep in the ancient ruins of Rauh.” (Scarlet Bud)
I think the church used to be dedicated to hornsent spirituality, as it overlooks Enir-Ilim and is located deep within the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, which was a very important place to the hornsent because it was perhaps the origin of the Crucible itself:
“It is said Devonia quested in search of the Crucible's origin, and departed from the lands of the Erdtree alone.” (Crucible Hammer-Helm)
“A record of crafting techniques left by the hornsent academics who studied the ancient ruins of Rauh.” (Antiquity Scholar’s Cookbook)
we find Devonia in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, and the hornsent (who revered the Crucible above all) studied the place, so I think it’s fair to say that Rauh is the origin of the Crucible! I think it’s possible that the Church of the Bud might have originally been involved in Crucible worship!
the co-op summoning pools seem to confirm the Ancient Ruins of Rauh as a hornsent stronghold, because they are listed under the “Land of the Tower:”
there’s also some cute inquisitors near the Church of the Bud praying to the Tower:
and of course, there’s the deathblight Divine Beast Dancing Lion in the middle of Rauh!
so basically, it makes sense that the Church of the Bud was targeted by the Crusade… it’s a hornsent church involved in hornsent spirituality. Romina herself is most likely hornsent too; it isn’t super clear if she had horns or not under her hood in the trailer, but if she doesn’t, that doesn’t mean she can’t be hornsent. at the very least, she was involved in hornsent religious practices!
Romina also has cut voice lines! (at 0:31 in the video) she says, “Children of the Tower; butterflies take wing.” we don’t know the context, but “the Tower” obviously refers to the hornsent, so Romina is calling upon the hornsent here, which I think further suggests she was one of them!
#elden ring#romina#romina saint of the bud#asks#tangent but something really frustrating to me is that a lot of people came away from the dlc thinking#’hornsent religion Evil… they put people in jars… they did human sacrifice… they need to be destroyed’#when yes the hornsent did do all of those things BUT the entire society is not a monolith with the same spiritual practices…#the crucible is a vast spiritual concept and different people worshipped it in different ways#there’s shown to be such a big variety in hornsent religion like the inquisition… the jar shamans… the curseblades… the lamenter…#the divine beast and bird warriors… ordinary people with their small private altars… and finally the church of the bud!#they’re all different!!! they don’t all believe the same things or practice religion in the same way!!!

I'm sure other queer people will relate, but I always get apprehensive around The Talk (as in, non-queer people talking about queerness in the abstract), and that's the topic my shul decided to land on today during lunch. And I feel so fortunate to have found them first because they were talking about a previous member and how they want him to visit and they want his boyfriend to visit so they can all scramble to feed and welcome him. I'm imagining a hoard of people just shoveling food at this member and his boyfriend if (and hopefully when) they decide to visit 😭
#jumblr#jew by choice#jewish conversion#shul shenanigans#personal thoughts tag#no matter who it is talking about queerness i always hold my breath and i'm sure it's obvious why#my previous church wasn't homophobic really at all which i feel fortunate for but i WAS exposed to the sect of homophobic xtianity a lot#and i know jewish thought about queerness is: 1. not monolithic and 2. not the same as xtianity#but i feel beyond grateful that g-d has given me the chance to find this shul. it's literally everything i've dreamt of in a shul#literally the ONLY issue is that we are so small as to have problems with budget#i need to remember to withdraw some money to donate... i always forget#i also feel grateful because i'm a heavily pierced person and i always forget that i look VERY alt to 'normal' people#i've been slowly realizing that maybe the entire world doesn't see me as normal the way i do#because to me i do NOT look alt whatsoever. but having more than like two facial piercings (i have Way more) is very not normal apparently#i think that's partially why one of the families at my shul seemed... apprehensive about me? which was funny because...#...i don't notice i'm a pierced person anymore. to me my piercings are literally another body part#and also one of the members said he's totally fine with the Queer Thing seeing as his son is trans and he's gotten used to it#girl (not specific to gender) that's a bombshell to drop 😭

me at 8:00: yeah guys i can’t come out tonight. yeah got another insomnia flare-up, really need an early night. have fun tho!
me at 1am: how are we, as a society ever going to destigmatise disability if we won’t even let ourselves say the goddamned word. maybe the reason you think disability is an offensive term is because disability itself offends you. and of course it does, because it is offensive. The notion that a disabled person did nothing to deserve their disability and cannot achieve success the same way you can because of it offends the idea that you are successful because of your vitues, not your luck. It offends the pride you have in uour work, your success, your wealth and whether you truly earnt it. Disability is offensive only because the innate humanity of a disabled person offends the very propaganda our extractive capitalist society relies on to—
#disability#disability rights#look idk how this happened i tripped and fell into it honestly#but i ended up in a position of disability advocacy at my church#so 2023 is the year i say ‘disability rights’ boys#BUT IF THEY USE DIFFERENTLY ABLED LANGUAGE KNE MORE FUCKING TIME I SWEAR#i gag every time#were making meaningful progress and theyre hearts are in the right place and genuinely some disabled church members might prefer that langua#disability is not a monolith etc etc#but as someone who spent the majority of my life compensating for my disabilith to reduce all the ways it affected other people#‘differently abled’ language is SUCH A TRIGGER#i dont have to prove why im still valuable in order to deserve community and im not doing that shit no more#also#shitpost#created at 1:49am#like please do not take this too seriously my friends#just one girls rambled thoughts

Hearing Protestant vs catholic discourse being raised Episcopalian is so funny
Like they have stained glass they have saints they have rosaries but they’re still staunchly Protestant and many will get mad at you if you call them what they are, which is “Party Catholics”
They don’t get relics though which is a super bummer imo
#just saying Protestantism isn’t a monolith of beige rooms and folding chairs#some of them have at least a bit of pagentry left#to make it perfectly clear I am not religious any more#but I still do have some fondness for the church I grew up in despite how badly it fucked me up

One of my favorite things about catholic v protestant discourse is when people refuse to admit the idea that there could be like…overlap? Like not even just in general doctrine or w/e but like I see posts that are like
“Protestants don’t do Lent” (it depends on the church/person ofc, and typically there are different rules than the Catholics have, but absolutely it’s still a thing)
“Protestants don’t care about saints” (although most don’t particularly pray to the saints or whatever, I have known Many protestants who definitely care, including some who have iconography of certain saints or find other ways to connect with them. They dont necessarily hold the same status as they do with catholics but that doesn’t mean all protestants completely ignore their existence)
“Catholic churches are the ones with stained glass windows” (ik this is usually a joke but it still irks me a little every time I see it lol. Like yes if you walk into a church and there are no stained glass windows it is probably more likely to be protestant than catholic but I have seen catholic churches without stained glass and I’ve seen many protestant churches with it)
“Catholics drink wine and Protestants drink juice for communion” (semi true but an over simplification. Can’t speak too much on the catholic side of this one. Also, if you’re in specifically a Methodist church it will almost definitely be grape juice. Other protestant churches, it’s really kind of a crapshoot for what you’ll get. Also, the reason for this is because “grape juice” (at the time it was actually non alcoholic wine) was popularized for communion by doctor and Methodist minister Thomas Welch. Quite a few Methodists I know are actively annoyed by other protestants using grape juice for communion bc they think it’s a methodist thing. (That’s also dumb, but a different kind of dumb). Also, yes, if you’re familiar with Welch’s Grape Juice, it comes from the same guy)
#I have no real horse in this game anymore#which is why I love reading discourse about this#these are just a few specific things where I’m always like#haha yeah no you don’t actually know what you’re talking about#disclaimer: I do not speak for all ex protestants with religious trauma who do ancestor work and folk magic now#I can only speak for me#but just in my experience or whatever#I know no one cares lmao but I felt like yapping idk#idk what to tag this with bc I’m scared for people to interact and not take it as lighthearted as it’s meant to be#catholic v protestant#Catholic discourse#protestant discourse#uhhh#methodist#honestly just in general most of this could boil down to like#‘Protestants are not a monolith so at least one Protestant church probably already does whatever you’re about to say only Catholics do’#anyway#witch life#makin overly specific posts no one cares about#just that kinda day
