Exploration of Inyo National Forest at Convict Lake by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Lakeshore Trail and taking in views of nearby trees and mountains of the Mammoth Area range at Convict Lake in Inyo National Forest. The view is looking to the southwest with a haze overcast skies from nearby forest wildfires. For the post-production look, I specifically added a Sunlight and slightly red filtered Graduated User Defined CEP filter.

Bruce Lee: His Greatest Hits will be released on July 14 via The Criterion Collection. The Blu-ray box set includes five martial arts classics starring Bruce Lee: The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, The Way of the Dragon, Enter the Dragon, and Game of Death.
1971's The Big Boss is directed by Wei Lo and stars Lee, Maria Yi, James Tien and Tony Liu. 1972's Fist of Fury (also known as The Chinese Connection) is directed by Lo Wei and stars Lee, Nora Miao, Maria Yi, and James Tien.
1972's The Way of the Dragon is written and directed by Lee, who stars with Nora Miao, Ping Ou Wei, Robert Wall, and Chuck Norris. 1973's Enter the Dragon is directed by Robert Clouse and stars Lee with John Saxon, Ahna Capri, Robert Wall, Kien Shih, and Jim Kelly.
1978's Game of Death is written and directed by Lee, with Robert Clouse completing the film after Lee's death. Lee stars with Gig Young, Dean Jagger, Colleen Camp, Hugh O'Brian, and Robert Wall.
The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, Game of Death, and The Way of the Dragon have been newly restored in 4K with uncompressed original mono audio. Enter the Dragon includes its 102-minute special edition version and its 99-minute theatrical version, each restored in 2K.
The set also features Game of Death II, the 1981 sequel to Game of Death directed by Ng See-yuen, and Game of Death Redux, a new presentation of Lee’s original Game of Death footage, produced by Alan Canvan.
In addition to the original Japanese soundtracks, alternate audio is included for the films, including the English dubs and a 5.1 surround soundtrack for Enter the Dragon’s special edition.

Tad Cook, K7RA, Seattle, reports: Average daily sunspot numbers declined this week from 17.9 to 11.9. Why? Because on the final 2 days of the March 25 – 31 reporting week sunspots disappeared. That’s right. We’re back to the blank sun again, unfortunately.
Spaceweather.com reported on Wednesday that we may soon see a potential sunspot that’s currently on the far side of our sun.
Average daily solar flux dropped from 78.6 to 77.4. Geomagnetic indicators softened as well, with average daily planetary A index declining from 13.3 to 8.9, and middle latitude A index from 10.4 to 7.7.
Predicted solar flux over the next month does not look promising, with values way down in the 70s, although this forecast improved some over the past couple of days. Expect 10.7-centimeter flux at 73 on April 2 – 3; 71 on April 4 – 9; 73 on April 10 – 13; 74 on April 14 – 16; 76 on April 17 – 24; 75 on April 25 – 27; 74 and 73 on April 28 – 29, and 72 on April 30 – May 5.
Predicted planetary A index is 5 on April 2 – 5; 8 on April 6 – 7; 5, 10, and 20 on April 8 – 10; 5 on April 11 – 15; 20 and 18 on April 16 – 17; 8 on April 18 – 19; 5 on April 20 – 21; 8 on April 22 – 24; 12 on April 25; 8 on April 26 – 27; 5 on April 28 – 30; 8 on May 1 – 2; 5 on May 3 – 4, and 12 on May 5 – 7.
Here’s the geomagnetic activity forecast for April 2 – 27 from OK1HH. The geomagnetic field will be:
quiet on April 12 – 13, 24 – 26
quiet to unsettled on April 5, 14, 23
quiet to active on April (2 – 7, 15, 20 – 22, 27)
unsettled to active April (8, 11, 18 – 19)
active to disturbed April (9 – 10,) 16 – 17
Solar wind will intensify on April 3, (4-5, 8-9,) 10-11, (12, 16-17,) 18, (19-22, 27)
Parentheses mean lower probability of activity enhancement. Predictability of changes remains very low, as there are ambiguous and quickly changing indications.

NN4X reported a 15-meter long path opening to Asia: “Nice opening to Asia here in Central Florida on the morning of April 1.
“On FT8, I worked BA7LP, YD7ACD, BG7PHA, and VR2VLY, and heard 9V1PL and BD7LMA.
“It was very concentrated. Note, no JA/HL/DU. Typically, I’ve been seeing more YBs than anything on 15-meter LP, but certainly not today.”

Sunspot numbers for March 25 – 31 were 24, 24, 11, 11, 13, 0, and 0, with a mean of 11.9. The 10.7-centimeter flux was 78.8, 79.6, 80.4, 75.1, 74.4, 79.5, and 73.8, with a mean of 77.4. Estimated planetary A indices were 18, 12, 9, 6, 4, 3, and 10, with a mean of 8.9. Middle latitude A index was 18, 11, 7, 4, 3, 4, and 7, with a mean of 7.7.

JMT Day 7
9/10/17 Mono Pass Trail to Marie Lake We got up a little earlier today but still started kind of late because we were trying our best to dry the tent and fly before packing them away. Seems like we've fallen into a rhythm of starting late and hiking fast to make up for it. We did the first half of our day in 3 hours, including a 2,000 foot climb. From there we descended toward Bear Creek. The creek was flowing down broad rock slabs in gentle cascades, and it looked awfully inviting on this warm, sunny day. The four of us decided to quickly rinse off in the creek. That water was brisk!! Melissa even convinced me to wash my hair by laying across a rock slab and dipping my head backwards into a shallow pool. Invigorating! Feeling renewed, we climbed to Marie Lake quickly. Craig caught a small trout and we had that for dinner along with a medley of other items that Jim and Melissa had left over. So goes the last night before a resupply. We enjoyed the ever evolving color scheme on the peaks surrounding us as the sun went down, then jumped into bed early as the wind picked up.

Convict Lake, part of Mammoth Lakes , is rich with historical context from a Native American Myth of Pot-sa-wa-gees "Water Babies" to an 1871 shoot out with a posse led by Sheriff Hightower. Our current name for the lake is derived from a group of convicts who escaped from a Carson Valley Prison in 1871 and stowed away in this pristine little valley with a lake and creek. Convict lake (elev.7850 ft) Is surrounded by tall peaks, the largest being Mt. Morrison (elev. 12,276 ft). On the Importance of The Doors’ Self-Titled Debut Album
Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, takes a look at the impact ‘The Doors’ had on music
January 4 marked the 50th anniversary of the release of The Doors’ debut self-titled album. To celebrate the occasion, the band is planning to release a 50th anniversary 3 CD /LP deluxe edition of the album, complete with mono and stereo versions of the album on CD, the mono mix on vinyl, and a live recording of their March 7, 1967 show at The Matrix in San Francisco. Packaged in a 12x12 hardcover book with rare photos and liner notes, the deluxe edition will be released on March 31.
‘The Doors’ has been lauded by many publications and critics as one of the greatest albums of all time. Rolling Stone and NME ranked the album at number 42 and 226, respectively, on their lists of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”
The album was, and still is, a fan favorite too. Featuring the band’s two biggest hits, “Break on Through” and “Light My Fire,” ‘The Doors’ peaked at number two on the Billboard charts, coming in second only to The Beatles’ ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.’ The band released five more albums before singer Jim Morrison’s death in 1971, none of which had the same kind of impact as their debut.
So what made this album so special in particular? Perhaps it was the band’s unwillingness to sound like any other band out there at the time. The band never had an official bass player because Morrison felt like it made them sound too much like everyone else. On ‘The Doors,’ all bass parts were played by Ray Manzarek on keyboard, and then overdubbed after the fact.
The Doors also made it a point to try and capture the essence of their live show in that first recording. According to Manzarek in the documentary ‘Classic Albums: The Doors,’ “It’s ‘The Doors: Live from the Whisky a Go Go’… except in a recording studio.” It was on stage during their legendary high-energy, drug-addled performances, that the band developed what would become their signature sound; a mixture of rock, blues and jazz. Combined with Morrison’s weighty, sharp lyricism and passion for poetry, and The Doors became like no other band before them.
And other artists took notice. If it wasn’t for The Doors, some of punk’s heaviest hitters, such as Patti Smith and Iggy Pop, may never have gotten into music. Even younger rock bands like The Strokes and The Dandy Warhols were inspired by the band’s work.
The Doors’ music has inspired countless other artists, as well as generations of fans. It is because of the unique sound and “live-ness” that the band created on their first album that we are still talking about them today. After 50 years, ‘The Doors’ is still as impactful as it was when it was first released in 1967. With this new 50th anniversary deluxe edition, fans of all ages will be able to experience the genius that was The Doors all over again in a whole new way.
