It's crazy that Monk didn't have a resurgence of popularity the same way Columbo did

they're both about meek, unassuming detectives who are way smarter than they look; and they're both on the same network even

Imagine if they met lol; they have such polar opposite energies. Monk is a well organized and laserfocused neat freak; Columbo is an awkward and clumsy goof in a dirty coat.

I thought my opinion on the episode where Monk meets his dad might have softened after all these years, but nope it is still absolutely infuriating. Like this guy ditches his family basically because he was tired of them (and the show makes it clear this abandonment had a profound effect on Adrian [who was 8 at the time] and his mother and brother) and then calls up his son for the first time like 40 years later solely to get out of jail, proceeds to act like a dismissive jerk the whole episode talking about his other son from his second family the whole time, gets angry and blames Adrian and his brother's mental disorders for why he ditched them when they were kids, and then just barely apologizes for anything and we're supposed to be okay with all that because he teaches Adrian to ride a bike at the end. Like it is just as frustrating as I remembered it. Like I cannot believe Greg Universe co-wrote this.

i’ve started watching Monk from the beginning again and and halway through the first season. and what always strikes me about Monk is that when you watch it - actually watch it instead of catching part of the odd episode on rerun - you realise that for a show that is remembered mostly as “that crime comedy with that quirky OCD detective” it actually handles Adrian’s mental health issues and grief really sensitively and earnestly and doesn’t shy away from showing the unfunny sides of it. 

yes, what makes him different also makes him brilliant. but yes, he can’t function without his nurse/assistant and his therapist. and its humurous but he’s suffering from it. and he overcomes, he’s so brave. he has fallbacks. it’s okay. 

his caracter is written with so much compassion. 

it was also the first show that when i watched it as a pre-teen showed me that therapy is more than the classic laying on a couch in Freud’s office with a bored therapist going ‘and how does that make you feel’ but that its something valuable that helps people.

I definitely see what Trudy did, Adrian is hot and so clever. Surprisingly quick on his feet, man can sprint! And in a suit at that, doesn’t seem like the best sprinting uniform but hes got style and some sprinters just aren’t ready for that. That woman had taste I’m telling ya she was wise beyond her years and had she not died monk would have become an all powerful and unstoppable force for justice.
