To quote Rebecca Solnit's post in entirety mostly for this quote:
[....A]lmost 72 million voters voted for a Black and South Asian woman, in a country that didn't let women and nonwhite people near power until ten minutes ago or so.
(image description is in text below)
Rebecca Solnit
They're still counting. Latest tally:
71,914,997 votes
vs.
75,145,107 votes from Decision Desk HQ,
meaning it was closer than they told you. The media treats early results and exit polls as definitive, and then people build narratives on it. Loud guys are falling over themselves to go on about what a failure she was and all the things she did wrong (which mostly mount up to "surely all the voters in the US of A think exactly like me and she should have run as me"). We've been there before.
A Black woman in a racist and misogynist country jumped into a race late and swam upstream against the misinformation and disinformation overwhelming the minds and politics of this country, which has been weakened by the failures and declines of legacy media and corrupted by the lie machines and hate machines given to us by Silicon Valley.
But almost 72 million voters voted for a Black and South Asian woman, in a country that didn't let women and nonwhite people near power until ten minutes ago or so. That is a sign of both profound change and not enough change yet. More people, as my friend Astra, below, points out didn't vote than voted for either of them. The electorate has 244,666,890 people in it, according to this site, which also notes there are 2,591,130 disenfranchised felons (likely disproportionately Black and poor, thus skewing elections toward Republicans, notably in Florida) and 3,325,217 overseas voters: https://election.lab.ufl.edu/2024-general-election-turnout/
Astra Taylor writes: Democrats shouldn't give an inch the meme that Trump has some big popular mandate and that this is a realignment. Did Harris lose and do the Democrats need to clean house? Yes.
But margins have slimmed, Trump's overall numbers barely budged, and his coalition is older, wealthier, barely more diverse than 2020. As a friend who did turn out in NC told me that this was an election between Trump, Harris, and the Couch and in terms of overall numbers, the Couch basically won.
It's still not a happy picture - quite the contrary. But the mandate idea encourages liberal folks to adopt a mental map that says more working and non white people are moving toward MAGA values and politics than really are, and we should not inflate the popularity of reactionary, anti-trans, anti-immigrant positions. Many other camps have that covered/let's not give them more cover.
[RS again: don't let them tell you you have to be nice to Nazis now. But we do have to stir the nappers on the Couch.]
[There is a graph showing two horizontal lines with three colors comparing income brackets of Trump supporters comparing 2020 to 2024]

saw alien: romulus and now i want to spice up the battle of muunilinst by having a long power outage on aborah as a result of the battle and something waking up in plagueis's old lab because it's been defrosted. whoops accidental sithspawn.
the way the rise and fall of the galactic empire notes the plagueis file in the arcane library on exegol (aka sidious's private collection) has been defaced gives me more ammunition to the 'sidious just left all of plagueis's favourite things (his fucked-up science experiments) to rot'. he doesn't think anyone's coming for him, he's just going to leave plagueis's estate alone until he wants something from it. who else knows there might be a treasure trove of sith objects in moneyland, says sidious philosophically, i never told anyone.

Hold on - since the currency in both Octopath 1 and 2 is called Leaves, doesn't that mean that the Leaflands in 2 are basically the Moneylands?

What to expect from me
Currently I have three special interests and few filters:
queer polyamorous healing sex headcanon-happening in the Horizon game series that I write way too many words about, and some people seem to like
Modern Monetary Theory and how it can empower us to defeat Moneyland and the horrifying corruption inflicted on us by Corporate Capitalist Empire (which needs to end) (see starter pack resource list below)
a lens of understanding interpersonal (and systemic) conflict through Empathy and Collaboration, or people (and systems) that are Empathy-Challenged and Non-Collaborative (this one is sort of my day job so I’m not revealing it here but I left pretty big clues I guess)
Modern Monetary Theory starter kit
Planet Money short and easy episode explaining MMT
Stephanie Kelton (economist) explains a bit about MMT in a TED talk
youtube
Stephanie Kelton’s book The Deficit Myth I felt like it was a pretty quick and understandable read but I would love feedback from others
A four-part podcast unpacking MMT by reviewing The Deficit Myth and adding extra context. (Not great audio quality 😢😣)
a book to understand Money more generally (although, I think Jacob got the difference between currency and ledgers wrong; ledger economies (e.g. the Inca) are still "Money" because that's effectively what we have now with online banking)
Moneyland and Corporate Capitalist Empire starter kit
Oliver Bullough's investigative works in book form; start with Moneyland
and, I'm not joking, this book will teach you five things about astrology and 5,000 things about Western paradigm of corporate/Christian exploitation

Payback - Book Review
@HenryRoiPR Wow that was an insane read!
(Warning this review contains the use of one curse word.) Payback by Michael Botur is the second book in the Lockdownland series. This gritty thriller follows Eden Shepherd as she does her best to recover from not only being in the dreadful survival dome of Moneyland and than being imprisoned after a rough kangaroo court session. Eden is finally free. Though not really. While she was locked…

Ep07- Moneyland - Companion Guide For BBC’s “The Missing Cryptoqueen” Podcast
Ep07- Moneyland – Companion Guide For BBC’s “The Missing Cryptoqueen” Podcast
What’s Moneyland? That’s what the first half of this “The Missing Cryptoqueen” episode is about. The second part is about Frankfurt, the city where Jamie and Georgia think that Dr. Ruja might be hiding. In any case, Moneyland is that mythical place where the money that millionaires and corporate entities want to disappear goes. The concept comes from british journalist Oliver Bullough, who “has…

Moneyland
By Michael Botur If I were to describe Moneyland, I would say it’s Hunger Games meets Lord of the Flies, meets Squid Game. This is a futuristic horror novel, where robots have taken over the world and are experimenting on humans. One of these experiments involves leaving twelve teenagers in an abandoned suburb where they must fight over resources. The main character, Eden, is a participant in…
