Handwritten letter from Princess Grace to her close friend Prudence "Prudy" Kudner (née Wise) dated on September 22, 1967.

Full transcription below:

"Prudy dear,

Our trip this summer sounds like a bad soap opera. We went through three weeks with one crisis after another. Caroline started off the trip with tonsilitis followed by a mouth infection. Then Albert woke up on the Empress of Canada that we boarded in England with measles. Then in Montreal I lost the baby & the two girls caught the measles. It was really unbelievable. Rainier cancelled the rest of our trip in Canada & Alaska. I took the two measle girls to Ocean City where we spent ten days resting & seeing family. Then we flew to San Francisco to join Rainier & Albert. Then two weeks in Beverly Hills in a heat wave.

I was really very fortunate to be in a big city at the time of my miscarriage but it is such a depressing experience and this was the second boy we have lost. It was fun to see so many old friends in California. Some haven't changed a bit while others I had a hard time recognizing. We didn't get to see Bing—who lives mostly in San Francisco now as he was off in Africa. I am so upset to hear about your eye trouble. Can something be done. Do you know of Dr. Berliner in New York. He has a fabulous reputation and is supposed to be wonderful. He & his wife spend their summers here. The head of the American Academy is now Frances Fuller who is Mrs. Worthington Miner. She taught there in my day. One of my cousin's girls is there now. The place has undergone many changes but is still very good. Hope your birthday party for Arthur was a great success. Much love to you all." 

ABOUT PRUDY:

Prudy was roommates with Grace, Sally Parrish, and Carolyn Scott at NYC's Barbizon Hotel. Periodically Prudy shared Grace's Manhattan House apartment and the apartment at 1285 Sweetzer Ave. L.A.

Possessing exceptional organizing skills, Grace hired Prudy as her secretary and assistant in 1953-56 until Grace married Prince Rainier of Monaco. Though Prudy was one of Grace's closest friends she was denied the opportunity to be a member of the wedding party since she was in Grace's employ. The palace thought it would be unsuitable. She did attend the wedding and attended the events of the week leading up to the wedding serving as Grace's assistant. Princess Grace would serve as Prudy's matron of honour at her wedding to Arthur Kudner Jr. on December 13, 1958 (see photo).

Prudy died of leukaemia in 1973 and was survived by her husband and two children a son Arthur Kudner III, and daughter Prudence Barry Kudner.

I don't know how many times I've had to make posts like this, but, judging from what some of you feel comfortable throwing into the tags, another one is sorely needed.

A reminder: the 2000s remains the only decade in f1 history without a driver fatality. It is nothing short of a miracle that all the drivers involved in incidents today are OK. As a collective, we may have bitched and moaned about the safety regulations when they were first introduced but thank god for them. So many drivers are lucky enough to walk away from horrific crashes, do not tempt that luck by wishing your behated driver will crash out or worse, or by making memes poking fun at the incident because you are just tempting fate there.

You may not know the name Lorenzo Bandini, but he was one of countless drivers who have lost their lives in motorsport. He, like Charles and Carlos, was a Ferrari driver, and he died three days after an accident during the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix due to his injuries. For context, Monaco's current reigning Prince, Albert ii, was nine years old at the time. It may seem like a lifetime ago, and in some ways, it is, but it is still in living memory.

Maybe you're new to the sport and are unaware of the sport's deadly history. Trust me when I say you do not want to be watching when the miracles don't happen. It stays with you.

Most of the drivers know someone who was killed during an accident, some were present when the worst happened. They would be beyond disgusted to see what some of you write about their colleagues and their friends.

Please just show some basic human decency, thank you.

You really want to go there? Okay, lets go there! To use your own logic, the native American analogy you’re so found of also applies to the Jews in Israel.  Romans tried to expel all Jews and then rename the territory "Palestina" after the Philistines (enemy of the Jews), and Jerusalem "Aelia Capitolina" (after Hadrian and Jupiter) to erase the Jewish connection.  Except that did not work because some Jews remained and then others came back.  And they never stopped returning: from immigration in 200-500 AD, the eleventh century, until the movements in 1882, early 1900s, right up to 1948.

I'm sure you know the Ottoman Empire happened until it didn’t, and the territory switched to Britain who called the territory Mandatory Palestine, so the “Palestinians are those who live there, meaning Arabs AND Jews.  This is inconvenient historical facts for you, Jews were living there already!

Do you think the Ottomans would have tolerated state-building by Jews?  Neither the Ottomans nor the British would ever have tolerated an illegal or violent state-building attempt by Jews.  That is why until 1948, the future state of İsrael consisted of territory bought by the Jewish National Fund and empty lands accorded to the Jewish state under the UN partition plan.

Then the Arab world declared war in 1947 and got their asses roundly kicked by the Jews and end up occupying a number of territories originally intended to be part of the abortive Arab state of Transjordan. The furious butthurt Arab nations expelled 900,000 of their own Jewish citizens (those they didn’t kill) so the refugees made their way to Israel in 1948.  Judea and Samaria (aka the West bank) belong to Jordan, Gaza to the Egyptians, Golan Heights to Syria. Green line established as an armistice line.

The Arab world declared war again in 1967 and got their asses round kicked by the Jews.  Just before the war, Arabs left the area and figured they can come back after all the Jews are killed and take everything the Jews owned or had build, the farmlands they built out of swamps and desert…. Except that didn’t happen and they became sore losers. 

Jordan gave up their claim to Judea and Samaria in the 1990’s and Sinai was given back to Egypt, Israel immediately started negotiating with the PLO for peace. Oslo granted the Palestinians the first land that they could claim was theirs and no one else’s. Israel then moved on to direct negotiations with Arafat to give them a proper state with legal borders in exchange for peace. Arafat rejected it and launched the Intifada.  Israel tried again when Abbas took over, but he refused to even talk. In an attempt to buy peace, and as a test of the Palestinian’s intentions, Israel completely pulled out of Gaza, hoping that it could become something like Singapore or Monaco. Instead, Hamas took over, destroying the infrastructure that Israel left behind and launching terrorist attacks against Israel ever since.

Hamas could have rebuilt hospitals and schools with the millions of dollars given in previous conflicts in Gaza. They could have built bomb shelters for their citizens. But no, they built underground tunnels and bunkers, designed to breach Israel's boarders and protect their own. You cannot have peace with Gazans whose sole aim is to kill you and rape the women and then kill them.

Then October 7 happened.  Hamas gleefully opened fire on babies, children, families in their beds. They stabbed children kept the knives in them before killing their parents.  They didn’t spare family dogs.  They gang-raped women and paraded their dead bodies in the streets. Hamas exceeded the Nazis in brutality.  Any collateral damage to the innocent is unintentional on Israel's part as opposed to Hamas who surround their own soldiers with children.  Hamas is literally using their own children as meat shields. 

Gaza started a war. They are getting what they wanted. Why are you complaining?

Did you protest in 2006 when Gaza elected Hamas?

Did you protest in 2007 when Hamas declared war on Israel and said it would eagerly murder Israelies  - which is what caused the Israeli blockade and later the Egyptian blockade.

I bet my two houses you didn’t protest for the past sixteen years while Hanas fired at Israeli civilians, sometimes causing Israel to fire back.

You weren’t at all bothered that for 16 years the Hamas used their own citizens human meat shields and build military infrastructure beneath hospitals and schools

Meanwhile, 21 Arab countries would rather let Gazans die than admit them as refugees.  Where are your complaints about that?

In conclusion: Unlike all the countries in the Americas and Australasia, and many elsewhere, Israel actually is NOT on occupied land, illegal or otherwise. The fledgling state of Israel bought land fair and square from Ottoman landlords and was granted statehood by the UN.  Now, you could argue whether the Ottomans should have been able to sell that land, as they were absentee landords – but they did have legal titles to it and they legally sold the land to the Jews.  So Israel has much greater legitimacy than the U.S, Argentina, Australia, or New Zealand.  Go bitch about them, you cowardly hiding-behind-greyface-Anon.

Welcome to the Eurovision Song Bracket!

This will be a fairly large bracket, consisting of two "teams" of 68 songs for a total of 136 competitors!

The first team has been preselected, and will consist of all previous winners or popular vote winners if applicable.

This means that if your favorite song won, you do not need to submit them (a couple of exceptions apply, see list at the bottom/read more for details)

Submissions are closed!

Rules!

- Entries must have been a part of the main competition of Eurovision of any year (I might do a MGP mini bracket if the people want that)

- Once again, you do not need to submit winners, they are (mostly) automatically in. Again, see bottom for details and explanations.

- You may submit multiple songs, but please don't send the same song over and over.

- Propaganda is highly encouraged! There is a spot for it in the submission form, and adding it on to the poll itself or sending an ask is also allowed. You may send a DM, but I'll probably be slow to respond that way.

How it Works!

- There will be multiple brackets of 34 songs

- Each of the preselected winners will be randomly against one of the submitted songs. Pairings will be decided through number assignment and a random number generator.

- Vote for your favorite! I will include links to the songs in the poll so you can listen to both before voting. The winner will move onto the next round until we find the winner of that bracket.

- Once all brackets are complete, the winners of their individual brackets will go onto the finals to determine the (unofficial) Ultimate Eurovision Song Winner!

- There will be a preliminary around, as 1969 (hehe nice) had a four way tie, so we will need to determine which of those four will represent that year!
