“Golden goal” is the term for a variant of football/soccer in which the first team to score a goal wins. It’s usually used as a tiebreaker in games where both teams scored equally - so Jiro is essentially saying that one of their teams has to win now.

The word Jyuto uses here is “小舅” which translates to “brother-in-law” or, more literally, “little father-in-law”. While trying to figure out what the hell he was talking about, I found out that “小姑” is the female equivalent (“sister-in-law”/”little mother-in-law”) and is typically used as an implied insult in regards to in-laws who are nosy and interfere with your personal affairs for no reason. I did what I could with the info.

“御用納め” is the term for when the Japanese government essentially mandated that people who work for public affairs get a few days off around New Year’s, which usually makes December 28th their last paid day of work for the year. Jyuto is, of course, a corrupt cop, and it’s common for “black” and “white” to be police jargon referring to people as “guilty” or “innocent” respectively. Basically, he’s joking about how it’s ironic that he’s on the white team.

A proverb which essentially means “live life to the fullest and don’t waste time, because you never know when something might happen”. You could be healthy in the morning and dead by the evening; it’s not something anyone can predict.

Sanada Yukimura was a warlord who was alive during the Warring States period of Japan, and is famous for his use of the “akazonae”, or “red armour”, during the Siege of Osaka (very likely a purposeful reference considering how he’s following Rosho here).

Unrelated to the above, the word “武士” means “samurai” - however when written in katakana as “モノノフ” (“mononofu”), it usually refers to fans and live audience members of the female idol group Momoiro Clover Z (aka the people who host the Momoiro Uta Gassen).

I can only assume what this means is “this is my experience dealing with the coronavirus” but the fact that it’s even mentioned here is wild enough on its own. What a weird year 2020 was.

Honestly the first one is still my favourite! Samatoki got one of his best verses out of it, and it’s kinda nostalgic to look back on it now because it encapsulates the feeling of “old” Hypmic, if that makes sense? I’ve been in this fandom for too long lmao.
