I'M IN THIS PICTURE AND I DONT LIKE IT
narumitsu shippers: would you like a 3 hour read on why they are in love? its zero dollars you will leave with brainrot
klapollo shippers: mmmmmm tsundere manlet im going to write secondhand embarrassment
kirinaru shippers: i love emotional abuse (writes a fanfic with nearly inhuman amounts of strangely beautiful symbolism)
franmaya shippers: ships characters that never interacted, makes it work damn good
miego shippers: (cries quietly in the corner)

feeling real normal and fine over the fact that scar said “you can have a monopoly” while handing grian cacti. as they stood together in the sand. that is the Closest acknowledgement either of them have ever gotten to the cactus ring.
do you think that was scar’s way of trying to tell grian he misses him? that he truly does forgive him? that he never held anything against him for how things ended up on that mountain oh so long ago?
do you think that’s scar’s way of truly reaching out to him, saying it while talking in slightly more direct circles. that they can be okay again?
do you think, as scar holds the thorns of the cacti in his hands, feels them prick his skin (if he imagines, they feel like the thorns of a beautiful rose), he’s really just taking grian’s rough hands in his own and saying it’s okay.
scar gave grian that monopoly as forgiveness, I think.

Can you draw jealous turbokarun… please… I need those type of momokarun crumbs.
Aaaaa friend I know that feel ;u; i hope these crumbs are ok, I feel the need to apologize because this isn't fluff like my last couple of posts;;; We didn't get to see much of Okarun losing control of the curse in the show and so I am like *fascinated* by the concept of the curse being, y'know, actually a curse and having some...negative side effects beyond general depression/apathy when he's transformed ✨️
This is also a little bit of a love letter to a certain chapter in Volume 7 of the Ancient Magus' Bride manga 💕
Sooo here's a little page I made up to explore that! Set at the end of Ep. 11. He's feelin some kinda way about Jiji suddenly showing up and, unfortunately, the curse's personality isn't as kind and good as our dear Ken...

ough. this panel. still going insane over this after catching up with the manga
Tumblr media
like. they‘re childhood friends and of course they’re more comfortable with each other than pretty much anyone else. momo was just letting a friend help her sleep since she was being hunted by reiko. shes been shown pining over okarun in so many other instances by this point that it could be reasonable to assume she doesn’t have any lingering feelings for jiji and that this interaction is completely platonic from her side.
but does okarun know that? for all he knows, jiji was her first romantic interest and jiji still has feelings for her. plus, they get along really well. on top of all of that, he only sees himself as „an awkward guy,“ after all, being socially inept and self-conscious, not athletic or charismatic the way jiji is. it would be perfectly reasonable for him to assume that momo prefers jiji over him, since what he sees in jiji is everything he isn’t.
i have so many Thoughts about this panel like. oough my god i could go on for hours if i could just organize my thoughts

The scene okarun tries to get momo attention and starts singing and circling jiji is so funny, i can hear those narrators from animal planet or stuff going "the small awkward male starts a ritual dance made to ward off other males, unfortunately for his case the bigger more prettier male misinterpreted the dance of territorial for a dance of friendship and has now joined the dance happy to make a new friend. The female watches not understanding either of them."

I really love how in Dan Da Dan, Okarun is sooooooooooo insecure that basically every single thing that happens makes him believe that Momo will stop being his friend.
(And isn’t that relatable af my dear socially awkward, low self-esteem friends?)
But Momo… Momo is always seeking out Okarun, always trying to include him, always wanting to talk to him and be with him.
And it’s so obvious to us, the viewers, that Momo loves Okarun soooo much, that she loves talking about aliens and ghosts with him! But it’s not to him! At all!!!
And not in a "oh it’s anime, of course the main guy won’t notice how the girl loves him" way, but in a "this guy really thinks that he’s unlikable and he’s wired to believe that everyone will leave him eventually" way.
Like… when Jiji shows up and Okarun sees how cool he looks and Grandma tells him that he’s Momo’s first love… he immediately thinks "That’s it. We’re done. She’ll never want to stay with me now that HE is here…". He’s jealous and he’s so scared that they’re "still in love". He thinks she’ll go out with Jiji, that she’ll stop liking the supernatural and only do things Jiji likes…
Meanwhile Momo is all like "why the FUCK is Jiji here? Okarun, help me get rid of him." And while they do bond over Jiji’s story, she very clearly doesn’t like him like that. She’s STILL seeking out Okarun, and she obviously won’t stop liking the supernatural because, yes, it’s something she likes to share with Okarun, but it’s also something that, by now, she likes period. It’s something they have in common and no pretty boy is gonna change that!
And it’s not just Jiji that’s threatening Okarun and Momo’s friendship in his mind, it’s everything. Everything he does, everything he says, every moment where he thinks he failed at something… because he’s just got no self-esteem at all.
Thankfully, Momo’s very vocal and straightforward about how he needs to stop pushing people away all the time, and even though sometimes she teases him a little too much, she’s got good intentions. She keeps doing and saying little things to reassure him. Like the whole "see you tomorrow" thing or how she goes out of her way to eat with him, how she always asks for his opinion or his help (like every time Aira says something batshit crazy, she always asks him "she’s still on with this shit?" It’s a detail, but I just love it so much). And Okarun didn’t change his whole mindset just because his new friend told him that he should "stop with the self-loathing already" two or three times. Something like that is obviously buried deep and it takes time and work to change and I love that they didn’t just make him suddenly all confident and shit.
Gosh I love this batshit insane anime and these crazy characters and their wonderful relationships!!!!

This song is so autistic, it means so much to me genuinely. It’s so relatable especially when I was a teen but even now!
The autistic feeling of finding joy and sameness and love and company as a child in the interests I indulged in, in the characters I love, it hits home so close ;w;
Rewatching this show with my partner has been such a joy 😭

momo and okarun really are complementary and a match made in heaven. they work as a battle couple so well, precisely because momo can be okarun’s hands, while okarun always serves as momo’s feet.

I've seen a lot of people take scar's "what happened in third life?" question and interpret it as scar not remembering third life—which makes for a very fun idea
however, I'd like to offer:
scar and grian’s entire interaction is the two of them trying to gauge where they stand with one another. grian’s hesitant “…just like in third life” is a silent question, both trying to discern if scar remembers the desert, and how he feels about it. it’s his hesitant foot forward
scar remembers third life—of course he does. he knew so many of the answers to the questions. he remembers every little detail of that game, because it was probably where he was happiest
he only asks grian “what happened in third life?” because it's a test. he's testing the waters between them, now standing as two victors on equal footing, equal ground. he plays dumb because it's scar, and he never shows every card in his hand, every trick up his sleeve. before scar takes any kind of step forward, he needs to know how grian will explain the desert, what he’ll say about it.
he asks “what happened in third life?” but there’s more questions lying in it. “do you still care?” “am I safe to trust you with my heart?” “did it mean something to you?”
scar is sneaky like that, subtle, as he pretends he doesn’t know or doesn’t remember. he needs to see what grian’s reaction is before they take up their dance again

What i really appreciate about dandadan is that the characters say im sorry, many medias likes to make a chara make a mistake and spend a long time waiting till the chara gathers courage to say a simple "my bad" but in dandadan the vast majority of situations gets resolved quick because well why useless drama? The drama we have is more focused and on point with the narrative and is often not something that can be fixed with an im sorry because is not a mistake but yes a more serious issue, to be honest momo and okarun only became friends because momo noticed she had said harsh things in the heat of the moment to okarun (a guy she had no idea who he was or what he was going through) and backed down to understand that yes she was hurt because of the break up but also okarun was just trying to befriend her and had no ill intentions, he did make fun of her for believing in ghosts later but the discussion between then was not mean-spirited and yes just a childish fight.
Anyway i absolutely adore how everytime a character made a mistake and i was getting ready to have loooong chapters of said mistake being milked dry till the resolution getting resolved in like 2 chapters later or less was a breathe of fresh air.
