Shonen Onmyoji Manga

There is a new Shonen Onmyoji Manga on Comic-Walker by Sorakura Shikiji and Itou Natsuo.

It is based on the light novel with the same name written by Mitsuru Yuuki and illustrated by Sakura Asagi that was first released in 2001. This is not to be confused with the other Shonen Onmyoji Manga written by Hinako Seta in 2005. There was an anime series that aired from October 3, 2006 to March 13, 2007.

Here is a translation of the synopsis:

Times are peaceful. 13-year-old Masahiro is the grandson of the rare Onmyoji, Abe no Seimei. In order to surpass his grandfather, Masahiro, who is still half a man, spends his days training hard while being teased by his partner, the mononoke Mokkun. In the midst of this, there is a commotion that the Imperial Palace is on fire, and Masahiro and Mokkun start their own investigation, but there is a strange shadow lurking behind the scenes... Can the poor Onmyoji save the capital!?

Masahiro is the son of Seimei's son, Abe no Yoshimasa [1] and Mokkun is also called Guren but his real name is Toda, which is the Japanese's name for Tengshe (騰蛇) from Chinese Mythology [2]. I also think the Chinese Equivalent to a mononoke (物の怪) is a wuguai (物怪). Anyway, Masahiro also has a love interest named Fujiwara no Akiko.

Shonen Onmyoji Chapter 10.2 Highlights

The story opened up with the narrator giving an explanation of the Imperial Court Positions in the Heian Era. It was said that most of them were hereditary meaning the child of a samurai became a samurai, the child of a musician became a musician, the child of a scholar became a scholar and of course the child of an onmyoji became an onmyoji.

Masahiro was doing chores for the Gagaku (Bureau of Music), Oiryo (Bureau of Palace Kitchen), and Kamoryo (Bureau of Housekeeping) Dormitories.

Mokkun remarked that onmyoji were paid to little for the work they do and suggested that Masahiro ride an Ajiro Cart instead of traveling on foot. Masahiro refused and said that his father and his Uncle Yoshihira also traveled on foot and there was no way he would use it regardless of his grandfather's official rank.

Mokkun said that was the point because onmyoji had special skill job, which were Star Reading, Astronomical Observation, Calendar Making, Blessing Prayer Performance, and Auspicious Judgement and sometimes they get in danger by exterminating Joyo (), which often translates to demons, monsters, and ghosts

They were then greeted by Masshiro’s father, Yoshimasa. Yoshimasa commented that Masahiro seemed to be doing well.

Masahiro informed Mokkun that his grandfather and father received individual requests from the High Lord, which were separate from the salary.

The narrator notified the reader that during that time period each of the great aristocrats had 44 talented onmyoji due to the fact that their fortune-telling skills could decide political situations. That was the reason why Seimei and Yoshimasa were close friends with Michinaga and Yukinari of the Fujiwara Clan.

Mokkun responded and said that was probably true with Seimei and Yoshimasa, but told Masahiro that he would be in charge of chores at the Onmyo Dormitory for a while.

Mokkun fussed at Masahiro saying that the Direct Delivery Envoy was even a low paying job within the Onmyo Dormitory and the reason why Seimei was just an Onmyo Student until his 40s was because the salary was not worth the work. Mokkun asked if Masahiro could do it.

Yoshimasa spoke up and said that it was true that Seimei had been a long-time Onmyo Student, but that was nearly 40 years ago and said that the country, the imperial court, and the Onmyo Dormitory continued to change.

After Masahiro wondered off Yoshimasa said that Mokkun shouldn’t threaten Masahiro too much because he was still a child.

Mokkun answered and said that Masahiro was much more courageous than he and Yoshihara as infants because Masahiro didn’t cry when he came near him. Mokkun added that because of that Masahiro was truly Seimei’s Grandson.

Yoshimasa thought about how Toda (Mokkun’s real name) never called him and his brother Yoshihara children of Seimei.

Masahiro noticed that his father was in deep thought and asked if Mokkun said anything rude to his father.

Mokkun got angry at this and Masahiro bade farewell to Yoshimasa and said that he will see him at home.

Masahiro announced in front of a crowd that he still wanted to be an Onmyoji and that it was the work of each individual that brought change. Then he swears that he would defeat Abe no Seimei.

Of course Mokkun pressed Masahiro’s berserk button and said “Do your best Seimei’s Grandson” and Masahiro replied with his infamous line of “Don’t Say Grandson” and the chapter ended.

Hopefully she’s down for the night but I made sure the monitors were on just incase.” Sora smiled at Moeru and only moved once Yuuta came out and took her hand to lead her to the dining table, instructing her to sit beside him. “Okay! Mokkun, we’re ready~!”

He had already set the table before so once they were at the table together, they could enjoy their dinner. "I wanted to thank you for being here tonight. I'm sure you've got better things to do but with two kids on my hand, it is much appreciated." Moeru thanked Sora while pouring Yuuta some juice.

"You were having a lot of fun, didn't you?" He asked Yuuta before eyes went to Sora again. It made him wonder, what did Yuuta think of Sora. She's pretty amazing, not someone who'd normally hang with someone as boring as Moeru. "Now eat up everyone, before it get's cold."

Ota Motohiro (太田基裕) LINE LIVE Vol.4

Mokkun had his line live last monday! I’ve had some delay in posting due to exams but yay, back to fun times~

Mokkun introduced a strawberry short cake during the Mogu Mogu time segment, please enjoy pictures of how a beautiful man eats cake. V.V

Mokkun ate 2 spoonfuls and said it was enough, and gave it to the staff. They laughed and asked if he loves sweet stuff, he agreed. Omg only 2 spoonfuls, no wonder he’s got such a gorgeous waist line. XD

He asked the fans what cakes are recommended, he commented, “Ah, Quil Fait Bon, I ate a strawberry tart and it was so tall, it was a long time ago.” Quil Fait Bon is a cafe with really tasty fruit tarts.

Mokkun also recommends Angelina’s Mont Blanc, a chestnut cake with the right amount of cream.

After that was the Q&A segment.

Mokkun received a fan mail from a fan who said she spotted him at Kyoto station buying yogurt and commented that he had an impressive aura to him.

Mokkun was quite worried, he kept asking, what kind of aura? Is it a scary aura? Was I scary?

He felt worried that he didn’t leave a good impression. XD

The funny part came when he recalled what he was doing that time and acted out a scene of him being grumpy and buying yogurt while mumbling, “so tired, I want to go back quickly.” It was so cute! XD

Mokkun said it was probably when he was acting in Toumyu, whereby he always mentions that Toumyu tires him out a lot.

He line called a few fans and some of them were with their family and it seems their whole family likes Mokkun, that’s so nice!

Mokkun was wondering what pose to do so he played around with the filters a bit before deciding on a cool pose.

He’s currently acting in Innocent Musicale so let’s hope for more pictures from him! ^_^
