21.02.22. Artist Research -- Moises Mahiques

In my research I came across the artist Moises Mahiques, and I was really intrigued by his work. He works very often with creating stacked images of people on top of one another, giving his art a shadowy, echoing effect I was really drawn to.

One of the next tropes in soulmates I want to explore in more depth is the idea of body-swapping -- like in the film Your Name I researched, it's a common trope where two people destined for each other wake up in each others' bodies. This varies between occurring for long periods of time, for a day, until they find each other, etc, depending on the writer's preference. I'd like to explore this through something very similar to Mahiques' work, using overlapping silhouettes to illustrate sharing bodies and physical connection.

His Tras-Cabeza video was a piece I found particularly inspiring, as animation being one of my electives it's something I'd love to bring in to this trope. The body-swapping trope will likely be the last trope I explore in depth, as I regard it as the most intimate and interesting of all of the tropes regarding soulmates, so I'm aiming to include all three of my electives in it.
