Shri Venkateshwara University conferred the Bharat Vibhuti Samman on the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati ji.

Shri Venkateshwara University, in collaboration with Akhil Bhartiya Sahitya Parishad, marked the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati by organizing a seminar on ‘Vasudev Kutumbkam’.

On this occasion, we conferred 72 personalities with the Bharat Vibhuti Samman 2024.

The Governor of Kerala, Mr. Arif Mohammed Khan, along with Dr. Sudhir Giri, the Founder President of Venkateshwara Group, Dr. Sumedha Didi, the Principal of Gurukul Chotipura, Pro Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi, and Dr. Yatindra Kataria, felicitated 72 renowned personalities with the Bharat Vibhuti Samman 2024.

He stated it is a proud moment to celebrate the 200th birth anniversary year of Swami Dayanand, the great national sage.

Dayanand Saraswati urged people to transcend caste, religion, and community, and collaborate to build a stronger nation by eliminating social injustices.

He was not just a revered figure in the country, but also a trailblazer of his time.

Dr. Sudhir Giri, the Founder President of the Venkateshwara Group, reiterated the teachings of Arya Samaj, which urge us to rise above divisions of caste, religion, and regionalism, and work towards the establishment of a strong nation by eradicating social evils from our society.

Rule-Breaking Virtuoso: Ustad Hashim Cheshtis

In a late 1970s Kabul TV performance, Ustad Mohammad Hashim Cheshtis (1934-94) showcased his musical ingenuity by playing a modified guitar of his design—strings raised, instrument inverted, and strummed with a smooth river stone—to debut a new composition. His younger brother, Ustad Arif, accompanies him on the tabla. 

Ustad Hashim's influence was not confined to his innovative performances. He also played a pivotal role in mentoring Kabul's modern pop pioneers, who weren't hereditary musicians. His collaborations with visiting Western artists and his performances at Kabul's German Cultural Institute were further testament to his far-reaching influence. In 1977, he journeyed to New York, joining his brothers Arif and Assef for a stateside performance, a journey that symbolized his global impact.

His contributions deserve to be celebrated alongside, not overshadowed by, other giants of the last century. It's time to rediscover and share his remarkable legacy.
