The Egyptian actor Mohamed Sobhi from the movie Akhenaten by Egyptian filmmaker Shadi Abdel Salam. He embarked on the journey after the release of his 1969 classic The Mummy: The Night of Counting the Years, the project, however, was never realized, mostly because Egypt’s Ministry of Culture, which Abdel Salam had relied on for production (it had also produced his debut), would not take it on, and the budget for a production of that scale could not be guaranteed by anyone else at the time. Yet, Abdel Salam wrote the screenplay for the film, drew the storyboards in his usual elaborate fashion, designed its characters and their costumes.

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. There are no words to express how grateful I and my family are to all of you. We are a family of 13, including my young children Malak, Ameer, Retaj, Rahaf, Saja, Alaa, Amani, Iman, Sobhi, Alaa, Ahmed, my husband and my injured brother Mohammed. When we launched this fundraising campaign, I never imagined that it would receive so much love, generosity and compassion. I honestly began to lose hope and wondered if our innocent children would ever find safety again; I was preparing for the worst. Your unwavering support has made me and my family feel hopeful again.

My one and greatest wish is that by the time the Rafah crossing reopens, I will have raised the necessary funds to evacuate my family. Individuals are paying huge sums ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 per person for evacuation, but every small donation can make a big difference. We send our sincere gratitude once again to everyone who donated, shared our story, or both, or even prayed for us. Thanks to you, we reached €20,000 out of €82,000 in a matter of days. Your contributions have made a huge difference, but we still have a long way to go before we reach our goal.

Before this war, I was a business administration student in my last semester of university in Gaza. I was looking forward to graduating and using my new degree to help my husband with his work. But I lost my home and my university. I also lost my uncle who was killed. He had young children like me. My family has lost all their livelihoods because of this war, and we are still clinging to life. We are currently living in miserable conditions - my two young children, Amir and Malak (whose picture I shared here) are crying because of the lack of basic food. Mohammed is waiting for evacuation and surgery, and my father is also in need of medical treatment. We are constantly trying to make ends meet while hunger and thirst try to kill us. Every day the scene continues to be filled with depression, sadness, fear and terror, the siege imposed on us and the genocide that pursues us and all kinds of torment and suffering and the spread of diseases, all this and more kills life in Gaza and kills our existence, and our lives have turned into a never-ending nightmare amidst hopes hanging by a thin thread, we are suffering now and do not know what tomorrow holds for us, and we do not know when this war will end because we have lost everything beautiful and we are about to lose more, we face harsh conditions and a dark future for our lives, displacement, poverty and pain, but there is a glimmer of hope,

We will not forget how you stood by us in the darkest times of our lives, thanks to each one of you, safety is no longer a distant dream, things will never return to the way they were, but knowing that there are brave souls there who will always stand by our side is what prevents us from completely surrendering to despair. Hello kind friends and dear community,

My name is Haruka Aoki, and I am an artist based in Portugal who, like many of you, has been heartbroken and forever changed witnessing the violent assault on Gaza which continues to this day.

Throughout this horrendous war, I have been fortunate to get to know several people in Palestine who I now call dear friends. The Alostaz and Atalla families are such people, and today I am asking for your direct support to help 17-year-old Muhammad Atalla, who was shot with an explosive bullet on February 25, 2024 when he was carrying aid from the Nabulsi Roundabout on the south-western edge of Gaza City.

"My wife's brother, Muhammad, was going to bring aid from the Nabulsi roundabout. He was shot in his left hand by an explosive bullet, which led to nerve loss and bone fragmentation. He needs a bone graft outside Gaza, but the situation is difficult for them.

Their house was completely destroyed, and Muhammad's father is also unwell and needs constant medical care. The family is focusing their efforts on caring for Muhammad, as he will need many operations to restore his hand to what it was, and also on rebuilding their destroyed home."

How your donations will help Muhammad and his family

Your donations will provide support for the bone grafting procedure and reconstructing the Atalla family's home. The bone grafting operation has an estimated cost of €31,253 on Bookimed, a medical tourism platform. The rest of the funds will go towards rebuilding their house. You will be supporting father Sobhi, mother Alaa, their children Iman, Amani, Alaa, Suja, Rahaf, Retaj, Ahmed, Muhammad, and Iman and Ahmed's children Amir and Malak.

I will be securely transferring the donations to Muhammad's family via PayPal and will post any updates here. My main point of contact is Ahmed, Muhammad's brother-in-law, and we are continuing to stay in touch.

A member of a family of 9 members. My father , Muhammad, is 50 years old, my mother is Nima, 48 years old, my older brother, Sobhi, is 33 years old, Hassan is 30 years old, Saeed is 28 years old, Bahaa is 25 years old, I am Ihab, 24 years old, Alaa is 23 years old, and my younger brother Ahmed is 16 years old.

We used to live in a simple home in northern Gaza—me, my mother, my father, my siblings, and their children. We lived in relative safety despite the daily struggles faced by the people of Gaza, like so many other families striving to meet their basic needs It was bombed and there was nothing left of it

But on that fateful night, we heard the sounds of explosions and shells drawing closer to us in a terrifying way 🔥💥. Fear took over us 😢💔, and we had to make a quick decision. There was no time to think or say goodbye to the home that had sheltered us for years 🏠💭. We left everything behind: our dreams, our memories, and the life details we had gathered over the years. We fled south 🏃‍♂️💨, hoping it would be a safer place 🛡️.

We arrived at our relatives’ house in southern Gaza after a long and exhausting journey 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️, with faint hope that we had found a safe haven. But unfortunately, the situation was no better; we were also threatened there 🚨💣, and soon a missile hit the house, turning it into rubble before our eyes 💔🏚️. At that moment, I felt that safety was an illusion, and that no matter where we went, we would continue to be chased by fire and destruction 🔥💔.

We found ourselves displaced again, but this time with no real shelter 🏕️. We moved to tents in Rafah, searching for temporary refuge ⛺. Yet, these tents were just a temporary stop, as if fate had decided we would find no place to rest 😞. Shortly after, we had to leave again, this time to the central region 🌍, where there was no roof to shield us from the harsh weather, nor walls to keep us warm from the night’s chill 🌧️❄️.

In this situation, life turned into a series of harsh challenges; we had become homeless, living in inhumane conditions 🚫😔.

The water we drink is contaminated 💧🤢, and each sip carries the risk of illness 😷.

Food has become scarce due to the steep rise in prices 💵📈, and our children have nothing to ease their hunger 🍞.

There is no source of income to help us face these conditions, nor do we receive enough aid; it feels as if we have been forgotten 🥀.

With each passing day, conditions worsen, and garbage piles up around us without disposal 🚮🦠, emitting smells that make breathing difficult and increasing the threat of epidemics and diseases 😣🤧. We live in a harsh and unhealthy environment, and with the spread of diseases, the fear of death feels closer than ever ⚠️💀.

Each day, we live as survivors of an ongoing catastrophe 🥀, trying to endure conditions that break the spirit and exhaust the body 🥺💔. We feel as if we’re caught between hope and despair, holding onto each other 🤲, hoping that one day we will find the safety and human dignity that we lost 🕊️🌅.

I am a journalist.

I would like to say that, first and foremost. I am a journalist, albeit in training, and I am proud of this fact. I am proud to say that I would be able to go into the world, and tell people the truth. I am proud to say that I would be able to go into the world, and show people the truth. I am proud to call myself a journalist in any capacity, and I am proud to know that there are other journalists like myself who will rally around each other, their work, and those who must be reported on.

But my heart breaks for journalists in Palestine. My heart breaks for Motaz Hilal Azaiza, and Bisan Owda, and Hind Osama Al-Khoudary, and Yazan al-Zuweidi, and Mohamed Jamal Sobhi Al-Thalathini, and Ahmed Bdeir, and Jabr Abu Hadrous, and countless other journalists who have lost their homes, their lives, and themselves. My heart breaks for Lama Abu Jamous, who I am more than proud to call a fellow journalist, but my heart breaks for the way she was forced into this.

Please remember the journalists who lost themselves and each other to show you the truth. Do not let them be forgotten. Do not let their work be in vain.

The world will be shown, whether they would like to see it or not, that Palestine is suffering. And that the people of Palestine will not be broken.

Palestine has always existed. And it always will.
