Three Rivers Petroglyph Site | Archaeologists credit the Mogollon with leaving thousands of images: humans, birds, fish, insects, plants, geometric and abstract designs. The plethora of petroglyphs adorn the basalt boulders lining a low ridge at the north end of the Tularosa Basin, dispersed across 50+ acres.

Founded in 1876, Mogollon was named after Don Juan Ignacio Flores Mogollon, governor of New Mexico in the 1700’s. With almost 100 historic buildings remaining, Mogollon is a ghost town lover’s dream. Once a bustling, raucous mining town, the 15 or residents serve as caretakers.

Cryptid of the Day: Mogollon Monster
Description: Ever since the 1900s, people of the Mogollon Rim have reported seeing a Sasquatch like creature. One story tells of pioneer Sam Spade who was attacked by the monster, leaving him a broken man. Then his son and bride-to-be were killed by the beast many years later. Other stories claim that the beast is the vengeful spirit of a Native American man.
