Awaking from a nightmare was par for the course, memories of gunfire and the loss of friends, the taste of metal on his tongue or the thick smell of smoke clinging to his nostrils. Reiner was used to that, what he wasn't used to was a heartbeat that wasn't his own or a warm body clinging to him upon waking and the feeling of unfamiliar arms around him sends him into a bit of a panic, bolting from the bed and beelining for his bathroom where he dry heaves into the toilet for a good five minutes until he gathers enough courage to look at his face in the mirror. The pathetic reflection of whoever stared at him wasn't a face he liked, a veteran, a son, a friend, a survivor, a firefighter. They were all adjectives that described him and yet none of them fit, there were far more harsh words he could use, disgusting being one of them.

Steeling himself, Reiner pads back into his bedroom, immediately grimacing when the man in his bed was awake and staring at him, and worse he had seen that display. A scarlet flush crosses the blonde's cheeks and rises to his ears at the memories of their night before, and Reiner wasn't self hating enough that he wouldn't admit that the sex had been fantastic, like any other time he allowed himself to get lost in the moment, enjoy the feel of a hard body against his own, relishing the freedom and tasting what he truly wanted only to give into his fear and insecurities the next morning after yet another nightmare. His mother's words echoed in his mind, harsh and unwavering, defective. He was not fulfilling god's purpose, her purpose, by sleeping with a man.

Staring at the handsome stranger . . . Ethan? Reiner recalled, he nearly jumps when the man speaks, hustling over to his closet to grab a new set of clothing. " Yeah? What am I? I originally planned on doing this set in the Late Republic, but I forgot I had a stack of reading to do on Caelius and decided to set it in the modern day because I’m confident in my ability to draw a shirt collar but if I try reading anything Cicero wrote before I drink my morning coffee, I will simply turn to dust

(also the buttons for Cicero’s vest are on the wrong side, I’m aware, I flipped the canvas to ink it as one does and realized I liked it better this way & didn’t feel fixing it etc)

What prompted Reiner to make a beeline over to Marco the moment he stood under the mistletoe? It wasn't out of a huge desire to kiss Marco, not that it'd be a bad thing, Marco was cute, kind, and sweet, the perfect Christmas kiss on paper, but rather his goal to was annoy the ever loving hell out of Jean.

Mindful of his bulk, he gingerly steps around people until he reaches Marco, grinning ear to ear as he points lazily up at the decoration. " You know the drill, Marco. Pucker up. " Reaching out, his fingers caress down Marco's cheek and under his chin until he's pulling him in, not quite pressing their lips together yet, amber eyes staring hard at the other, a gentle smile curving his own lips upward.

" Say the word and I'll back off, buddy. Not in the business of forcing anything, so let me know. Kiss or no kiss? We can always just hug. " Either way, it'd annoy Jean, so it'd be a mission success regardless of what Marco chooses.
