Monthly Update – April 2024

The first Act of Remnants of The Past is officially complete! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has purchased the game, as well as to those who will buy it in the future. Your overwhelming support means the world to me <3!
Now, onto planning Act 2! But before diving fully into that, I've been testing with a few things to enable you to import your choices from Act 1 into Act 2, and I'm thrilled to share some great news! Just this morning I found the way to do it! Huge thanks to Itch.io user necrosian for the suggestion, @13leaguestories for the help, and Chapel for the macros! In the next few days, I'll release an update so you can export your choices into a save file. However, this feature does NOT work on mobile. If you're playing on your phone, the export button won't do anything, but I've included a guide on how to manually carry over your choices to Act 2 on mobile. It might seem a bit tedious, but it only takes 2 minutes, and then you can forget about it for the rest of the Act.
In addition to that, I'm working on writing some extra scenes from the perspective of the ROs that didn't make it into the game. Whether it's because the MC wasn't present during those moments or they weren't necessary for the plot, these scenes are good details to share about the characters and give a bit of more context to their actions in the story. If you have a particular scene in mind that you'd like to see from another character's pov, feel free to ask! I'd be delighted to write it, as long as it doesn't venture into spoiler territory, of course! And on top of all that, I've been busy preparing some illustrations for Mermay! All of this and more will be available for Patreon subscribers.
With April and Act 1 done, I'm excited to dive into Act 2! Here's to hoping I'll make it to Chapter 1 soon!

Chilling this afternoon with the family member mentioned in this post about accessibility and mobile writing apps.
Fam has an iPhone 13 that works well except for this iOS Notes app issue (slow to load, MASSIVE lag when typing). Details for what we tried, what she ended up doing below the cut. Spoiler: no real solution except data export.
She has a common iOS Notes issue that appeared after her phone updated to iOS 18, and she showed me what happens and WOW. It's not that the app doesn't work at all, but it takes forever to open a note, and when she types into a note there is So Much Lag, and it makes the app almost unusable.
She has a few hundred(?) notes organized into folders for work stuff, recipes, work and personal project stuff, lists, and a lot of personal, journal-type notes, and she relies on the app so having it not work smoothly is upsetting to say the least. We installed another update while she was here, and tried uninstalling the app, but it still works like crap. And I guess she can see the notes on her Mac, but if it doesn't work smoothly on her phone there is really no point.
Anyway, on to the reason for this post. After the usual ten minutes of research she decided to go through Apple to get a copy of her Notes data, which should take a day or two, and then she should be able to download her Notes as text files with the file names and folders structure intact. It doesn't solve the problem but she will have a copy of her notes, and because they're (supposedly) saved as text files they can be backed up and imported to another app if Notes is no longer an option. So if you or someone you know can't access their iOS Notes after the update at least you should be able to get a copy of your data in a format that doesn't rely on an iOS- specific app.
I had no idea that Notes weren't text files, and that you could only export them individually and/or as a giant pdf! What the hell, Apple.
I tried to push Obsidian as a replacement but she wanted something simpler, so she's going to test Bear and iA Writer for now. I used iA for a bit back in the day but know nothing about Bear, so if you have a Notes alternative for iOS that is easy to sync across devices and won't all but destroy itself after chonky updates comment or reply and I'll pass it on.

📁 What are Recstar and OREMO?

Ideally, you will want to record in a software designed for compiling samples, but for MacOS we didn’t have a compatible recording software for the longest time. There is a Mac build of OREMO but it is quite unstable, and untested for MacOS Silicon as of writing this.

Recstar - Android
First, let me explain the importance of using software for compiling and recording samples. 
In OREMO and Recstar, you can import a recording list, more commonly known as a, “reclist.” I have explained what a reclist is in my previous tutorial, you can click here to learn more!
For either program, you can import a guide BGM, to make your recordings more even and on time. After recording all your samples, they will be exported into a folder, configuration ready!
As for hardware compatibility, OREMO is native to Windows, and Recstar is for iOS and Android. In this tutorial I will be teaching you how to use Recstar!
To set up a session in Recstar . . .
Save your recording list and guide BGM to a new folder on your mobile device. This can be done through the files app on your phone or tablet. 
After saving your recording materials to a folder, open the Recstar app.
Here, you will see the home screen, and to the right will be a, “+,” button. Select the plus button to set up a new session.
To import the recording list, head over to the three dots on the top right corner. Here you will be prompted to import your recording list from the files app.
After importing your recording list, it should immediately appear in your recording list directory.
Select the recording list you just imported, and it will open a new session automatically.
(OPTIONAL) In the session window, you can rename your session by selecting the three dots in the top right corner. That way you can organize all your recording sessions from the app.
How do you import guide BGM in Recstar?
To import guide BGM, open your session, and select the three dots in the top right corner.
From there, you will see, "configure guide BGM."
Now you will be in your Guide BGM directory, head over to the three dots and import the BGM of your choice!
It should immediately appear in your guide BGM directory. Select the one of your choice, and you will return back to your session.
For Recstar, after the recording process, you can simply airdrop the folder to your Mac, or if your phone isn’t iOS, you can alternatively use Google Drive.
As for softwares with no reclist support, there are 3 other methods if you want to record locally on your laptop or desktop. These methods are not recommended, but I will be detailing them anyway for alternative methods. If you recorded on a mobile device, You can skip to the configuration section.
