In case you need a reminder, Zoe definitely showed little signs that she liked Marinette from day one.
She still looks at Marinette just the same as the day she first met her.

Legit, look at that little bit of blush in this scene ^
And when she got her number…

It’s just so wholesome to look back on.

The days Zoe loved Marinette
In "Adoration", Zoe reveals to Marinette she had been secretly in love with her since the day they met. Marinette might have felt surprised to learn that she was the ninth grader Zoe was in love with all along, but it wasn’t long before Marinette's moment of surprise quickly turned to realization as she thought back to the time they shared together and realized it was obvious from the start that Zoe was in love with her, it’s just that no one thought to take notice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aside from Andre, no one else knew Zoe was in love with Marinette, but looking back, a lot of things that happened around Zoe in past episodes, make a lot more sense now.
Zoe met Marinette the day she arrived to Paris in "Sole Crusher," and at the time, no one knew who she was, making it all the more pleasant for Zoe as it was a brief window of opportunity to show her real personality, before having to hide it to fit the standards of the Bourgeois. Meeting Marinette was a complete contrast to what Zoe normally experienced, but was overall a moment Zoe felt she could genuinely just talk to someone without fearing the consequences that would come from allowing herself to be vulnerable enough to act more like herself.
Obviously Chloe did not hesitate to judge Zoe the moment they met, even threatening to send her back to New York if she didn't fit the family standards, while Audrey in turn saw nothing wrong in Chloe's methods and was more than willing to agree with Chloe for the same reasons. But with Marinette, everything was different. Marinette didn't judge Zoe, she looked at her with honest eyes and noticed she had her unique qualities, but also her share of struggles, all things Chloe and Audrey were quick to reject and ignore, from the unique shoes on her feet, to the way she hinted about her life in New York being anything but happy. Marinette listened to Zoe, she wanted to understand her, and despite not knowing much about her, there she was ready and willing to not only gift Zoe pastries as a way of welcoming her to Paris, but to also ensure the two of them would keep in touch by exchanging numbers.
Marinette gave Zoe her number on a box of macaroons, but it was her heart felt attempts to keep Zoe's number as close to her as possible, on the palm of her hand, that truly made Zoe realize Marinette was a kind and considerate person who wanted to befriend her, rather than expect her to be a certain way in order to obtain that friendship. But in actuality, this little moment always had more to it than the start of a friendship, it was the start of something more. Not long after Zoe wrote her phone number on Marinette's palm, Zoe BLUSHES, hinting she was not only falling for Marinette the moment they met, but that this new love she felt would grow the more Marinette reached out to her and saw through her attempts to fit in with her family, understanding there was something holding het back from being who she truly wanted to be.
(In "Sole Crusher", Zoe blushed at Marinette, revealing the beginning of her love towards Marinette.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(In Sole Crusher, after Zoe arrived at the Collège Françoise Dupont and felt compelled to insult Marinette to please Chloe, it was Marinette, the one girl who actually got to know her, who understood something was wrong and who was unwilling to push her away without hearing her out.)
Tumblr media
 Although Zoe believed she had no other choice but to accept the same fate Andre had, as he too accepted long ago that he would need to abandon his dreams and much of who he was so he could shape himself to fit the standards of the Bourgeois family, it was Marinette who once again tried to reach out to her and told her what she was too afraid to tell herself, that no matter the consequences she feared, she always had a choice to just be herself.
After Zoe was akumatized into Sole Crusher, Shadowmoth pointed out that Zoe was weakening the more she listened to Marinette's words, and of course she did, this one girl(Marinette) whom she had fallen in love with, knew exactly how she was feeling, how frustrated she was to have to hide herself from others and constantly put on a show to pretend her life was fine. And of course Marinette understood how Zoe felt as well as the life Zoe was living, because she too was living that very struggle everyday of her life as Ladybug, and had already known all too well what it was like to have to live a life where she was controlled and judged by Chloe, who expected her to fit the role she had made for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Back in "Heart Hunter", Marinette opened up about her frustrations, one of which was being unable to just be herself, of always having to pretend she was fine for fear of the consequences.)
Tumblr media
 Marinette didn't want Zoe to live with the same lonely struggle she had, to constantly hide from others, which is why she was so determined to reach Zoe/Sole Crusher and tell her she didn't have to hide her true self while in Paris.
Marinette did say there would always be someone there to help Zoe up when she is down, if she took that chance to open up to people who actually cared about others, and at the very least, Zoe could place her faith in knowing that someone like Marinette, who never gave up on trying to reach out to her, really would always be there for her, and she was, from the very moment they met.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of "Sole Crusher'', when Zoe shared the macaroons Marinette gifted her with everyone at Anarka's boat, who welcomed her with open arms, there was a subtle moment where Zoe's eye's remained focused on Marinette, that look was not just out of friendship, it was out of love for the girl who gave her the life she never thought she could have.
Tumblr media
We even see Nino pointing to a rainbow on the title screen as Zoe happily stood beside him, a hint that Zoe was LGBTQ+. Zoe loved Marinette the day they met, but there was just one problem, it was entirely one sided as Marinette was already in love with Adrien.
Tumblr media
Back in "Transmission", when Zoe found out that Marinette was struggling with her love life, she did not hesitate to reach out to her to help. Of course, the situation surrounding Marinette and Adrien's love life was no easy matter to sort through and understand on account of their secret lives as heroes, but out of everyone in their social circle, it was Zoe who said she knew perfectly well just how complicated love can be. She knew because she was secretly facing a complicated love of her own, towards Marinette, that entire time.
Tumblr media
And sure, Zoe still had her issues with her family to sort through, but it was precisely her love for Marinette that eventually helped her find the courage she always had to stand up to all of them, and learn to not let their threats continue to control her.
To be the one whom her family mistreated was one thing, but to watch her family mistreat the girl she loved was not something she could bare to stand and watch, which is why in "Deflagration", Zoe took any fear and doubt she had over facing Chloe, and threw it straight out the window, refusing to stand by any longer as Chloe attempted to humiliate Marinette during her special lunch with Adrien. Chloe's threats might have proven effective in the past to make Zoe grovel for forgiveness, but in that moment, Zoe could care less, she’d rather get sent back to New York than have to stand by and watch the girl she loved cry.
Tumblr media
(In Transmission", Zoe found the courage to stand up to Chloe for Marinette's sake, and even though she quickly realized she may have to face severe consequences for it later, to see Marinette smile happily at her, thanking her for what she did, made it feel it was all worth while if it meant she helped the girl she loved.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As tough as it must have been watching Marinette fall head over heels for Adrien, even helping in any plans to help her get closer to him, the one thing Zoe had that likely eased her heartache, was knowing that Marinette was still part of her life and had found happiness with someone who loved her just as much as she did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In "Adoration", Zoe saw picture after picture of Adrien that Marinette owned, she saw Marinette's constant flustering and embarrassment towards him, her little sketches, her writings and talks about what their future together would be like, Zoe watched it all, and even though she knew every action and every word that came out of Marinette was for someone else, Zoe never reacted negatively towards it, instead, she smiled, smiled at how all those things made Marinette happy and larger than life. At the end of "Adoration", Zoe said she felt there was no point in telling Marinette she loved her if she was already in love with someone else, that doing so would only change, or even ruin, things between them, but thankfully, Marinette thought otherwise
In many ways, Marinette knew the kind of heartache Zoe felt, because she faced the same thing in the season 3 finale, when she tried to give up on telling Adrien she loved him and instead watched him drift towards Kagami, someone she thought Adrien loved and would love him just as much as she did in return.
Yeah, Marinette's situation with Adrien wound up working out as she realized he always loved her, but had she been in the same position Zoe was in, then she would have wanted to take the chance to tell the person she loved how she felt if they were willing to give her that chance, to finally have that weight lifted from her shoulders and allow her to move on with her life, and that is exactly what she gave Zoe, a chance in knowing the person she loved would be willing to listen to her confession.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of "Adoration", Marinette gave Zoe the chance to speak her feelings, and despite Zoe's fears over what could have changed between them as friends in the process, thankfully, nothing did. If anything, the only change that did occur between them, was added respect towards one another in knowing they had both grown as people. Marinette never made any elaborate plans when she thought Zoe was in love with Adrien, and Zoe never broke the boundaries of their friendship to try and make Marinette fall in love with her. The two of them never lost sight of each other and accepted they both needed to be considerate of one another and be clear on how they felt. Marinette couldn’t reciprocate Zoe’s feelings, but this didn’t change the fact that she still loved her just as much as any other good person in her life, she loved everything Zoe did to make her feel better and appreciated everything Zoe did to look out for her in her most dire of times, such as when Chloe blamed her for stealing. Instead of ignoring Zoe’s confession, Marinette chose to acknowledge Zoe's feelings, giving her a proper rejection.
(Despite not feeling romantically drawn to Zoe, Marinette was still flattered by someone as wonderful as Zoe would fall in love with her.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoe was always aware her love towards Marinette was entirely one sided, and even though she knew a romantic future with Marinette would never be possible, to know that Marinette valued her so much and thought so highly of her, meant more to her than anything, giving her the peace she never knew she wanted, and the confidence she needed to keep being that amazing girl Marinette said anyone would be honored to be loved by.

Sole Crusher Redesign and Why her original design doesn’t Work:
Okay, first I just want to say this has nothing against Zoé or her character, I think she deserves better akuma than she got in the canon. Also, I know I have criticized her in the past but that doesn’t change how much I love this character and am glad she was made. So happy late anniversary Zoé, you truly are my canon sapphic punk baby and I love you for that, keep it up!
Tumblr media
The problems I have with her:
Anyway, I never gave my honest opinion about Sole Crusher, so here it is…. I hate it. Not because it looks bad, it's because it doesn’t feel like Zoé at all. Akumas should reflect the person that getting an akumatized like Reserver, Horrificator, Dark Cupid, Gamer, Refleka, Evilustrator, Stoneheart, I can go on and on with the many akuma designs we had that can look like and feel the civilian but not Sole Crusher. She doesn’t feel like Zoé or even look like her, she feels like Chloé’s many Akuma forms, and the fact she gets a design that is just sole crusher but better is pretty sad. And another thing, Sole Crusher doesn’t have that much personality to be honest like Akumas does. Like looking at the wiki picture, her paragraph about her personality is so short compared to Reserver’s. So yeah, she doesn’t have any similarities that would have made someone think that truly is Zoé but also she is pretty boring in terms of personality as well.
… so why not fix that.
The changes to her design:
First, let’s start with the design if you could tell already. I would use her concept design just not the weird thing on her forehead since that looks off to me, the ponytail, and her not having Chloé’s face of course. Also, she would have Zoé’s face because it is a very important thing, but have a mask that looks like Chloé like one that Obsidian from Steven Universe has and it can connect to her backstory since people didn’t like her because she was a liar to them. It's like she is two-faced in a way. Also, she would have two horns to reference her canon design. Also, she would have sharp teeth and clawed hands because they’re cool. And here are some pictures to get a better understanding of what she could look like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah that is for her design, let’s go to her personality.
Her personality and motivations:
I would imagine her to be a lot more aggressive and angry at her family and I mean all of them. Yeah, including André since he is the one to give her the advice of hiding your true self for your family that doesn’t like your true self at all which makes her feel ashamed. Yeah, there's no way I’m dropping that any time soon. But anyway, like I say she is emotionally unstable since Zoé had to bottle up her emotions and not express them at all around others, especially Audrey for so long. So sole crusher is all that pit up of emotions she has that are now exploded and is coming for everyone she is angry with including her sister. I know Chloé was just probably being nice in her own way but she still lowkey tried to change Zoé into being another version of her. So yeah, whenever Chloé escapes from her, the more she gets pissed. But being emotional doesn’t just connect to anger, it also connects to others including happiness and sadness as well. So she is an unstable ball of emotions that we should be scared of especially when she is mad. Also, she acts very cocky and wants everyone to see that since she didn’t have any confidence in herself as Zoé. Also, her motive at first is to become a better Chloé since she doesn’t believe she can’t be anything else but when Cosette told her she doesn’t have to be a better Chloé and just be her person from her life, she took that to heart a bit too much to the point where her new motive was to get all things that the Bougerios had so she can distance herself from it and people wouldn’t think her just like them. So yeah, she is very impulsive.
Here are some notes I wanted to add before I do some quotes:
The more people she absorbed into her shoes, not only she gets stronger and bigger but also the more invulnerable she gets as well. The things that are always vulnerable are her heeled boots and her mask. Her mask is just a cover-up of her true self and can crack by her becoming more open about her feelings or by someone breaking it.
Her clawed hands can cut through anything and get stronger every time she absorbs someone.
She is also very overprotective of things she cares about (like Cosette for example)
The first people she absorbs are André and Audrey.
And finally, her eyes can glow when she like super mad.
Now here are some quotes! Also using here @artzychic27 ‘s ocs:
Chloé: *Looks at herself in the mirror with the golden short dress, making a bunch of poses* Mom will surely be more impressed by this than anything that my half-sister is going to wear! Hehehe! *Picks up a very expensive perfume and starts spraying herself with it*
Sole Crusher: Wow and I thought Mom’s perfume was worse.
Chloé: WHAT THE?! *Drops the perfume and turns to see a giant sole crusher, whose arms are resting on the balcony*
Sole Crusher: Heeeeey Chloé, you know earlier you say I need to sit dominant and fear my enemies?
Chloé: *shaking her head forward* 😰
Sole Crusher: Well I thought about it and you were right. *in a menacing tone* So is it working, little sister?
Chloé: So what are you going to do to me?
Sole Crusher: Easy, crush you and become the better you since people just expect me to.
Chloé: Oh please, you become a better me is something that can’t ever happen since I’m already so beautiful! *sole crusher rolls her eyes* You’re ridiculous! Utterly-
Sole Crusher: SHUT UP CHLOÉ!!!
Chloé: *immediately shutting up in fear*
Sole Crusher: Ugh whatever, now say goodbye little sister. *Goes to grab her but Chloé runs out of her room before she got the chance and ends up grabbing the dresser instead*
Sole Crusher: What the fuck?! *pulls out the dresser and stares at it with an annoyed expression before crushing it in her bare hands* …Grrrrrrr…GET BACK HERE CHLOÉ!! *sees Chloé running out of the hotel*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cosette: *getting some decorations ready for the concert happening on the houseboat* I think that's all we need for the concert, right Sonic?
Sonic CottonBalls: *looks up and then grunts* ‘No your good and all ready to go’
Cosette: Well I’ll better get ready to go to the-
Chloé: *suddenly opens Cosette’s door then shuts it and puts Cosette’s stuff in front of it* Whew….. What do you want?!?
Cosette: What do I want?! You came in here!! In my house! By the way, how did you know where I live exactly?
Chloé: It doesn’t matter!! I’m trying to hide from half-of-sister of mine anyway!!
Cosette: Zoé?.. What did you do this time?
Chloé: I didn't do anything, she was just stupidly oversensitive that's all!! Besides, I don’t get why people get sad or mad over the stupidest things any way I don't do anything wrong ever!
Cosette: *both it and Sonic look at each other with disbelief look on their face then look back to Chloé in a sarcastic tone* Oh sure, you don't do anything wrong at all ever! You're just misunderstood and people just don’t get that at all!
Chloé: Finally you get it!
Cosette: … You know what, forget.
Sole Crusher: *Opens the roof with an angry look on her face* CHLOOOÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉ!!!
Cosette: *with a startled and worried expression* ‘Okay, either made her outraged or the Akuma must be amplifying those feelings. Either way, Chloé fucking screw.’
Chloé: Eeeeee! *as Sole Crusher goes to grab her, Chloé grabs Cosette and pulls it in front of her, and runs out of the room*
Cosette: CHLOÉ YOU MAJOR… JERK!
Sonic CottonBalls: *Hisses* ‘MOTHER NOOOOOOOO!!!’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sole Crusher: *holding Cosette like a little doll and seeing Chloé running away* Grrrrrr, when I find her, I’m going to destroy her!!! I hate her so much!!
Cosette: Agree, we’ll hating her part at least. But Zoé, what happened?
Sole Crusher: …
Cosette: Zoé?
Sole Crusher: *brings Cosette up to her face* Sorry the girl, named Zoé isn’t here anymore but you called me, Sole Crusher from now on. That doesn't matter right now, what matters is that I crush Chloé now, and then I’ll tell you. But for now, you're coming with me, don’t want someone as adorable as you to miss all the fun, now do we? *closes the roof and gets up* Now let’s go find that bossy bitch.
Cosette: … *blushes like crazy* ‘What just happened?!’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ismael: *sees Chloé running from an Akuma* Meh, what else is new? *Sees the Akuma kidnapping Cosette* …The things I get myself into… I'M COMING COSETTE! *rides his bike right after them and texts Reshma what happening*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cosette: *with big puppy dog eyes* Pretty please, can you not destroy the city just for some brat?
Sole Crusher: *with surprise blush face* ‘DANG IT, THEY'RE SO CUTE!’ *clears throat* No and stop staring at me with those big ol’ eyes!
Cosette: …. *stops doing the puppy dog eyes*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ladybug: Can you at least put the civilian down?
Sole Crusher: *holding Cosette like squeaky toy* No.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chloé: If you really want to better me then crush everyone here! Then you’ll prove to everyone that you are me completely!!
Cosette: Okay first of all, Chloé shut up. And second, Zoé you don’t have to do this!
Sole Crusher: ..What?
Cosette: You don’t have to be like Chloé so you can be safe from being bullied or ridiculed for just being yourself, but trust me, these people won’t judge you if you give them the chance to get to know the real you.
Sole Crusher: And how do you know?!?
Cosette: Because I know how it feels to be yourself will never get you anywhere and how you need to change yourself just so you can fit it. But I was proven wrong by meeting these people here! *points to the science kids*
Aurore: Awww thank you!
Cosette: Point is, no one here is going to judge you and make fun of you for being yourself. We’ll accept you for who you are, even if you made mistakes and errors along the way, but no one wouldn’t get mad at you for it and we’ll be here to help you and pick you right back up again if you want. I’ll be there to help you, no matter what! Because you’re very important to me!
Sole Crusher: *her mask starts to crack and she starts tearing up* You promise?
Cosette: *gives a gentle smile* I promise.
Chloé: Oh please, the freak just wants to stop a monster like you from destroying everything in her path. You’ll never truly be able to change, you'll always be Bougerios no matter what!
Sole Crusher: *goes back to being angry again* … ‘I’m going to kill her.’
Cosette: *with an annoyed face* ‘Dammit Chloé.’
Lacey: Now you see why, I wanted to get rid of her?
Marc: Yeah, I was wrong to spare her.
Reshma: She is the stupidest person alive.
Simon: Which isn’t surprising since both of her parents are really stupid.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chat Noir: *Hits her with his staff hard enough to destroy a part of her mask* I got her milady!
Ladybug: *with a scared expression* Um, chat?
Chat Noir: Hm? *Turns to see Sole Crusher with glowing blue eyes and pissed off expression* … Oh shit.
Genuine question so I hope this doesn’t come across as rude: why do you like Zoé so much?
I think she’s nice and yay gay rep but she really comes out of nowhere and just feels like a Marinette clone to replace Chloé so fans would stop asking about her failed redemption and stuff
Again, you’re entitled to your opinion and there’s things wrong, just curious
Let's start at the very beginning. I knew absolutely nothing about Zoé going into "Sole Crusher", and I first watched this episode in German dub without subtitles. So I had no idea what was going on. I honestly thought that this new blonde girl was Chloé's cousin or something. Then I read in the summary that they're half-sisters, and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was interesting to make their familial connection so much closer than expected, as I don't really see cousins as close family. And then I read that Zoé was the result of Audrey having an affair, and I was shocked, but also really respected the writers for having the guts to add something like that in. Maybe this is just because I haven't watched/read too many stories, but Zoé is the first time I've seen the affair child of such a bad person being portrayed in such a positive light. It kind of changed my view in a way.
I like that Zoé is so sweet, but also a little snarky sometimes. This is just my opinion, but I like that personality. You call her a Marinette clone, but other people have also compared her to Chloé, Adrien, and even Lila. I think at some point in the mixing process, she would have just become an original character, don't you?
When she became Vesperia, I really liked that she had value outside of just the Miraculous. Other heroes would often just use their powers and that's that. Doesn't make them look that unique. But Zoé used to acting skills to taunt Queen Banana into releasing Ladybug, and then tricked Chloé into accepting the Magical Charm. I feel that that gives her uniqueness. I'm a bit disappointed that this hasn't really been utilized since, but it's still something. And no offense to Queen Bee fans, but she made Venom look lame. I only saw it as cool after watching Vesperia paralyze the gigantic gorilla.
In "Transmission", Zoé is the only one being a good friend to Marinette. She doesn't partake in the party, and later goes to check on her when nobody else thinks of that. That made me respect her even more. And obviously, Kitty Noire slays (Blaqueminette is a better name though).
In "Deflagration", I like how she doesn't stand up for herself, but is fearless in protecting Marinette from Chloé. I think that solidifies how good of a person she is. But I was super disappointed to see that she wasn't Sole Destroyer like the leaks indicated. I mean, the name even fits her better. But I guess that idea is too cool for this show.
When I read the leaks for "Adoration", I initially didn't like it. I thought, "This doesn't further Zoé's character, it's just a plot device to push Adrienette further. Zoé deserves better." But after actually watching the episode, I ended up liking the confession. The way they did it was very sweet.
I think the only episode I have a problem with her is "Collusion". First, she has exactly one line, which just feels weird. Second, she says that Andre is a good man deep down, despite him hurting God knows how many people during his corrupt political career. This connects to a larger issue I have with the show, where they portray it that if you're forgiven by one person, all your past actions no longer matter, even if this person isn't the one you hurt most. But this episode is pretty much Zoé's only L in my book.
I understand that not everybody likes Zoé, and I don't expect them to. Honestly, I think her character and her introduction to me was just a perfect storm. I don't think this will change minds, but maybe it'll help you understand my point of view at least a little bit.
Have we ever talked about who this other woman that was in Andre's hideaway in Sole Crusher is? bc she kinda looks like an older Kagami. Maybe she's a younger Tomoe? I remember overlooking it when I first saw this ep bc I didn't really get it, but knowing what we know now about Kagami, and the fact that she's in here with a pic of Emelie....... 👀
See it's little side remarks like this just genuinely makes me want to know what happened before Alya and Adrien
(Also if they keep showing us this I might just start throwing hands with a literal 14 y.o because this little shit-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know this is probably basic knowledge or something.
But it honestly makes me mad and sad that, yes, canonically it's been said that Marinette's been Chloe's prime target and was her "sufferer" for years before Alya and Ladybug came into the picture.
Idk it just feels different to see it actually being said instead of just...knowing about it.
Also unrelated but the fact that Chloe actually thinks that she's "good" now, is why her redemption arc won't work. Unless she starts thinking about the stuff she's done and regret it, I don't think she can ever become a fully better person.
And that's gonna be a loooooong journey (if there's ever one) with how she treats the other characters here.
Lesbian Headcanons Pt. 1: Chloe
Tumblr media
I seriously enjoy writing all kinds of headcanons and analyzing this show. I want to talk about Chloe. She was such a queen from the start and Thomas just hardcore assassinated her character. So, I’m gonna put a good spotlight on her.
Also there are a ridiculous (utterly ridiculous!) amount of signs that backup this headcanon.
Her crush on Adrien seems theatrical & superficial
Chloe has always been very over the top acting as like she has this big crush on Adrien and that they’d be so good together. But, it seems very superficial.
What proves this superficiality is the way she talks about him in Sole Crusher. When she’s trying to teach Zoe how to behave, she talks about Adrien like he’s arm candy.
Tumblr media
Rule #148: you obviously need a guy BFF to wrap around your finger, preferably gorgeous and very rich. That one over there is mine!”
That is the direct quote from Chloe. Also take note as to how she doesn’t mention him being her crush nor claim that he’s her boyfriend. She only calls him her BFF.
Does she even value him as her friend? That’s tough to say. But, he’s given her ultimatums on multiple occasions and she hasn’t really followed through with trying to better herself. It’s sad.
She only goes after him when Marinette gets in the way
Have you noticed this? Chloe doesn’t really make much of an effort to pursue Adrien unless Marinette is stepping in to make a move on him. She makes it her mission to specifically target and sabotage Marinette. There’s less of an effort to get Adrien and more of an effort to sabotage Marinette.
There are very few times that she actually goes after Adrien on her own. But god forbid Marinette takes action, things start to blow up. She’s gone great lengths just to stop Marinette. For instance, in the Gabriel Agreste episode, she takes a video of Marinette and her friends planning to break into the party at the Agreste mansion. Then, she keeps running around the party trying to make sure the video gets exposed.
I feel like she’s secretly crushing on Marinette but either doesn’t realize it or is purposely hiding the fact that she does.
Try and tell me this sounds like a stretch, but I stand by what I say lol. Let’s do a comparison as some back up: Sharpay Evans in High School Musical is a rich, blond “mean girl” type just like Chloe. She’s friends with Troy and is very over the top about the crush she has on him. However, the difference is that she pursues him on her own plenty of times, not only when Gabrielle gets in the way. She did a fantastic job of impressing him in the second movie, going as far as to give him a scholarship and a connection with people who work for the college he wanted to attend. Chloe has never gone that far to try to impress Adrien on her own, despite having the ability to do something like Sharpay did.
She fits the “Enemies to Lovers” Trope
One could also argue that she’s bullied Marinette for years, which is obviously cruel. If she cared for her, why would she treat her that way? Well, this fits the “enemies to lovers” trope and that unhealthy narrative of “if (so and so) makes fun of you, it just means they have feelings for you.”
Bullies typically have a lot of underlying insecurities which is what makes them bully others - projection. And, while yes, we see Chloe has a bad relationship with her mother, she’s pretty damn confident in herself (like, seriously, this girl thinks she’s so popular knowing damn well most people in school don’t like her) and doesn’t really show many signs of having loads of underlying insecurities. So, with that being said, if it’s not self projection, then what is it? A crush on Marinette doesn’t seem too far fetched.
Will the enemies to lovers trope come to fruition? Will she ever get with Marinette? Obviously NOT. Marinette and Adrien are end game. Chloe won’t get with either of them. But this doesn’t mean it’s completely impossible for her to have a secret crush on Marinette.
Kagami intimidates her
Kagami is very upfront and serious which can be intimidating in itself. But she somehow scared Chloe right away, Chloe - a girl who’s supposedly a big bad bully.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In their very first interaction, Kagami is the one to dish out the very threatening line, not Chloe. In the span of this one sentence, she’s able to make Chloe back off which is very unlike Chloe.
After that, notice how Chloe now targets Kagami. She went great lengths to humiliate her in front of Adrien in Animaestro. And even fast forwarding all the way up to Perfection, she gangs up with Lila specifically to sabotage Marinette and Kagami. So, with that repeated behavior on Kagami, there’s that possibility that she’s secretly crushing on her, too.
Her & Sabrina play as Ladybug & Cat Noir
Of course any friends can dress up as Ladybug and Cat Noir without the possibility of them liking each other romantically (like Ladybug and Cat Noir do). But, Sabrina has shown signs of being fruity, too, which makes this a bit different.
Tumblr media
Sabrina dedicates a lot of time to Chloe and has this undeniable super strong admiration for her. Unfortunately, Chloe abuses this and constantly asks her to perform favors for her. To do another character comparison, if you’ve ever watched Dan and Riya’s YouTube series Beverly Valley High, Rhubarb mirrors Sabrina in a lot of ways. Rhubarb is the dopey friend of the popular mean girl, Cinnamon. She’s often her sidekick in her plans to wreck the two main characters, and is also asked to do favors for her. Initially, the audience is led to think that Rhubarb is sticking by Cinnamon to be popular and benefit from her wealthy lifestyle. However, in recent episodes, it was revealed that Rhubarb has had feelings for her this whole time which is why she doesn’t leave her side. With that being said, I feel like this same thing could apply to Sabrina.
Her own half-sister is canonically queer
It can no longer be denied: Zoe isn’t straight. Not only were there pretty obvious signs in previous episodes, in Deflagration, she openly flirted with Scarabella.
Tumblr media
It isn’t said how Zoe identifies, but what’s interesting is that her color scheme is all the colors in the pansexual pride flag. Obviously there’s many different sexualities that involve attraction to the same gender that Zoe could potentially be, but the colors are just a little sign I noticed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyhow, considering she is canonically queer, that means Chloe could be too. It’s definitely not impossible. There obviously doesn’t have to be “one straight sibling and one gay sibling.”
She has really high standards
Chloe makes it very clear many, many times that she wants a guy who’s gorgeous and rich. She won’t consider or talk to any guy who she doesn’t think is attractive and isn’t rich. This can be seen as comphet behavior.
In case you don’t know what comphet is, here’s the definition: compulsory heterosexuality (comphet for short) - When somebody experiences "attraction" to the opposite gender because that expectation has been pushed on them by the patriarchal society, this is quite often experienced by lesbians.
Unnecessarily high - or completely unrealistic - standards can be considered as comphet behavior because it gives the closeted lesbian a reason to deny men and validate the fact that they don’t want to date a man. Chloe has only shown desire for Adrien and Prince ? (I forgot his name, oops) who are both rich, good looking guys. But, again, both of those “crushes” are very superficial.
Conclusion
Chloe seems like the stereotypical mean girl chasing after he popular boy in school. But, taking a second look, she doesn’t seem to really be all that attracted to Adrien nor any of the guys in the show like she tries to claim.
I think Chloe shows a lot of comphet behavior and there seems to be far too many reasons to back up the headcanon that she isn’t into guys. I like this headcanon that she’s a lez. It makes sense and seeing her in this way makes me like her more! She has so much potential to be a more well-rounded, in depth character.
This is going to be a multi part headcanon because Chloe is definitely not the only girl in Miraculous who seems fruity. I plan on writing about any who have shown a lot of signs.
Note
Bro all the characters who were in love with Marionette refused to hurt her when they were akumatized (Evillustrator before being blindsided by her, Silencer, Sole Crusher).
Except for Cat Blanc whom straight up killed her lol.
That's quite damning ngl.
The “power of love” in this show is so fucking grim its not even funny
I recommend making a power of love playlist (AURORA in general should suffice if ur too lazy to sort through various artists) and pumping it directly into your bloodstream to counteract ML’s pessimism
Zoe learned to overcome her fears of rejection.
It is no surprise that Zoe has lived one chaotic life, living practically every day in New York pretending to be someone she was not to obtain the approval of those around her. Zoe was good at acting, even considering a career as a professional actress, but what she hated was living out every day of her actual life playing a part she did not want, just so she could please all the wrong people. No matter how much she wanted, Zoe could not escape this way of life so easily, not even after she moved to Paris, as her fears of being rejected by her family wound up pulling her right back into the life she was so desperate to leave behind in New York.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in "Sole crusher", Andre told Zoe that if she ever truly wanted to be accepted into the Bourgeois family, then she too would need to give up her dreams, along with everything else in her life that made her who she was, and leave it all in that little cellar on the roof where no one could find it, just as he had done with his own life many years ago.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By placing her shoes into the little cellar and putting on the diamond heels Chloe loaned her, Zoe really was ready to abandon who she was and accept that she would always be fated to live a lonely life hidden behind the persona her family approved of. Back then, Zoe had hoped that moving to Paris would give her the opportunity to finally be free to be herself, but who she was was someone her own family did not want around, and if the real her wasn’t good enough for her family, then how could she be sure she was good enough for anyone else, much less Marinette and the friends she spoke of at Anarka's boat.
The idea of learning to just be herself and speak her mind to others is easy enough to consider, but it was the fear of being rejected by others that was far more terrifying to think about whenever Zoe did face someone. When Zoe went to Anarka's boat to introduce her true self, not the cruel girl she pretended to be on her first day at school when she attempted to please Chloe, we see her frowning face before finally deciding to walk to the boat and meet everyone, she was nervous, and for good reason.
Tumblr media
Showing her true self to others was not only difficult, it was a moment of extreme vulnerability. We are used to seeing the other characters be themselves around the people that love and support them, because we know they will and have been accepted by the others, but for someone outside of that social circle, like Zoe, the struggle to be herself around unfamiliar people is a risk, she didn't know how they would react to meeting the real her, and considering she wound up being relentlessly bullied by the people she once considered her friends the last time she decided to show that sense of vulnerability in New York, it was only natural she feared the worst at Anarka's boat. If things didn't work out at Anarka's boat, Zoe would have no one to blame but herself for being incapable of knowing how to avoid such rejection all over again, and for a moment, that really was all she expected as she told everyone she would not blame them for not wanting to befriend her even after hearing her clear up any misunderstandings over her previous actions. The one person that ultimately did push her to go through with meeting everyone, was Marinette.
(Moments like in "Sole Crusher" and "Queen Banana", Marinette has always done her best to reach out to Zoe and help her when she was being treated unfairly.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Marinette's help, Zoe found a group of friends that loved and accepted her for who she is, but in order to keep that part of her life, she still had to do whatever she could to avoid trouble within her family now that she proved to Chloe she could not earn her place with them, after choosing to befriend Marinette. Andre came up with excuses to buy Zoe more time in Paris, but even then, Chloe was quick to threaten to turn to Audrey to send Zoe back to New York, if Zoe did not abide by her demands.
(To stay in Paris, Zoe was willing to comply by Chloe's demands, no matter how unfair they were, be it cleaning every one of Chloe's shoes or remaining confined to certain parts of the hotel. )
Tumblr media
However, such threats to send her back to New York was all Chloe had to ensure Zoe did not step out of the line she set for her, but after finding the courage to stand up to Chloe in "Deflagration", to stop her from mistreating Marinette, Zoe did eventually come to understand that her family only had as much power over her as she was willing to permit them, and this she alone had the capability to revoke at any moment, it all depended on whether or not she was willing to find the strength to stand up and do something, rather than remain in fear and do nothing, something Marinette learned for herself back in "Origins" when she finally took a chance to stand up for herself to stop Chloe from continuing to torment her.
(In "Deflagration", Zoe finds the strength to stand up to Chloe so she could help Marinette, realizing that she too had the courage to stand up for herself and stand up for others in the same way Marinette did for her time and time again.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marinette and Plagg were right, regardless of who her family was and what their views were of her, she did not deserve to be mistreated by them. While Chloe and Audrey had a great sense of pride earning and upholding their names as a Bourgeois, Zoe could not care any less the more she understood her own self worth was not dependent on fulfilling her family’s expectations, their approval did not define her. So, rather than continue to withstand her family's insults and do everything she could to please them so they would refrain from sending her back to New York, Zoe did exactly what Plagg said she should do, and what Marinette showed her she could do for herself, to call the shots and not let others step all over her, and over time, that's exactly what she did.
Tumblr media
In "Adoration" we see that Zoe never forgot that moment in Deflagration when she cast aside her fears of displeasing Chloe to stand up to her. Rather than use what she knew about her family to please them, she used what she knew to make their threats empty and useless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chloe always felt she was entitled to command everyone in her fathers hotel, including Andre himself, but Zoe removed that sense of control by befriending and connecting with the hotel staff as well as Andre, who were all soon quick to do whatever they could to help Zoe if and when Chloe lost her temper, allowing Zoe to use Chloe's temper against her to make matters more annoying for their mother. Audrey in particular favored Chloe and saw no wrong in Chloe tormenting Zoe, so of course Audrey sided with Chloe over the matters of sending Zoe back to New York.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To stop Audrey from ever carrying out Chloe's threats, Zoe had Chloe complain to their mother over every little thing, such as ownership of the hotel stairs, annoying their mother enough to force her to find solace away from them and ignore their constant bickering, even considering sending Chloe to New York along with Zoe if they didn't stop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoe didn’t just change things, she took back the power her family had over her, and the one thing that helped her accomplish this, was learning to change her entire perspective about herself.
Zoe learned to love herself the more she acknowledged her own accomplishments and capabilities, oftentimes through helping other people. And the love she had for those who were willing to love and accept her for who she is, especially Marinette(more here), helped her take a chance to put her foot down and build enough confidence to learn it was ok to say no to things, any rejection that came with it was just something she learned to accept came normally in life and was better to learn from it to better her own life, rather than fear it forever
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the start of "Adoration", Zoe was honest when she said it was thanks to Marinette that she was able to accomplish so much for herself. To have someone who was willing to reach out to her and show her a little love and compassion in her times of need, was more than enough to help her gradually seek out and build other supportive relationships that made her feel reassured it was ok to be herself. Zoe might not have had the loving and accepting life with her family that she'd hoped, but with every little change she made, she learned to overcome her fears of rejection and found a new family for herself in the friends who appreciated having the real her in their lives.
hm.
Okay so I agree with the first point. I get why the rumor started, but there's no genuine proof that Chloé was based on a real person.
Saying 'there's other writers' is not quite right. Yes TA is on a team of writers, but he's the creator and director. He has a lot more say. There may be other writers choosing different things on exactly how things are worded and portrayed. But they're following TA's outline and everything has to have his approval.
Saying that it's impossible that things were changed? That I find hard to believe.
There's a lot of things questionable about it. Why is ML written several years before it's animated when that's not how most shows are done?
How can you have episodes like Style Queen/Queen Wasp airing, showing the toxic upbringing Chloé had and giving us 'the only thing exceptional about you, is your mother' and showing this broken girl who is now determined to do better....... while also writing Sole Crusher/Queen Banana that showcases that actually she's just a brat without depth and is getting replaced with her perfect sister/.
Not to mention that the fans' assessment that things were changed, rewritten, and retconned aren't based purely on Chloé's arc getting absolutely shafted at the last second, though yes it being sympathetic and full of depth up to halfway through the season 3 finale and suddenly 'oh actually she was totes just an evil brat and if you saw different you're dumb' is a major factor. I've talked at length about the changes with the Sentikids as well.
