Mito tilts her head towards one side, leaning into the rest of her palm, " you only know what you read in your books, concerning me and Hashirama, so you can't exactly declare whether we are or aren't a product of our environment. "
" Yes, titles, laws, people, townships, all of it are merely tools that should be treated and used in such a way. Everything that has ever come to be should ideally be, but yet they don't. You can guide people with parameters, you can beat them bloody, you can praise them for bad deeds, you can promote them on merits and pursue a goodwill society, but however a community is entirely too reliable on variables that no one can control. "
Her gaze lowers towards the table again, her long nail drawing short circles over the surface. " The concept of pushing people to be better already has its issue because that implies there is a body who is outlining a ruleset of what exactly what it means to be better. You can contrive a simple guide, sure, but then the implementation of such a ideology is where often the fault lies. "
" To put in simply: not everyone will agree and you have to make work of that. Is that the problem with free will? Some approach it elegantly, others fumble it so much so until its nothing but tatters on the floor. "
" But I'll agree— there is a touch too much blindness that passes around of people imposing their good intentions, futilely believing that if they have such gratitude and wellbeing for others, then that will inspire others to follow in step. Which only works for maybe a handful and hardly persists beyond the generation. "
"A human being might live for a hundred years; that does not mean it is tenacious for doing so. Just as it is hard for a person to die of natural causes quickly, so too do states endure thanks to people's aversion to change. Stagnation has a weight all it's own."
Truth be told, he found her answers... lacking. Was he disappointed? Perhaps. He supposed he could not expect too much from someone from Konoha in the end, given their own environment. Yet it still demanded a rebuttal.
"Your words are ill thought out and incomplete, in my view. Human beings are not blank slates when they are born; nor are they simply products of their environments. To assume as such is to entirely ignore the notion of free will. Furthermore, your own history contradicts your own words; neither you nor your husband are products of your environment. Nor are your choices."
"But I did give you a trick question. It is true that humans are neither good nor evil; but they are innately foolish. This foolishness means that, regardless of their upbringing or environment, they are predisposed towards evil. Greed, lust, sloth, hope, love, passion, and a thousand other foolish things leads men and women to do evil, for both good and bad reasons, just as your husband did evil with good intentions. As we cannot strip these things from our humanity, it must be concluded that humans are foolish, and this leads us to do evil."
He paused, but only for a moment, to address the second point. "Your other point is far less potent. There is some value to the argument that if the leader is healthy, the state will be healthy, and if the leader is sick, so too will the state be sick. But that is a surface level observation. The state and the leader are separate things and operate independently; thus can a leader die and the state remain. Furthermore, attempting to foster morality through law will only lead to ruination and destruction, as your husband discovered. Morality is not set in stone; thus can you have one set of morals and the followers of Jashin have an entirely counter set of morals, with both accusing the other of being immoral. I do not believe you would find a state led by such a believer to be one fostering your idea of moral righteousness."
"But this is exactly the point I aim to make. Because morality is entirely subjective, you cannot truly foster morality through law. In reality, I believe you should seek to guide people through the use of regulations and punishments; rather than ask if the laws make them good or evil, instead ask if the laws are making them live the lives you wish them to live."
"Thus does the state shape the lives of its people; thus does the law become an embodiment of an ever changing ideal. It is innately amoral; the law is a tool and that tool must never be corrupted by morality, lest we begin to see the tool itself as a thing to be revered. The law is merely a method, it is not an end in and of itself. The problem we have in this world is that too many seek to try and force people to be good rather than focus on trying to make them better."

" Husband, " Mito calls through the derelict halls in search of Hashirama. It was a bid for his attention, just long enough to make him aware of his presence before she walks up and plants a small kiss over his lips; red staining and all.
With that, she walks away in some other direction.
The Head of the Senju, the lauded "God of Shinobi", Shodai Hokage... blinked in surprise as he was pecked, a blush blooming on tanned skin as flowers began to abruptly sprout around where he had been sitting. Honeysuckle dripped from the the walls, while jasmine filled the air with their decadent scent from below. Tobirama was likely going to scold him for spontaneous flowering later.... "Wha- Wait, Mito-hiisama! Kigiku!" Hashirama nearly stumbled as he rose too quick to be graceful, trying to catch up to her. His steps left heliotropes flowering behind him in bright violet drips. "Beloved pearl, may I return the favour?"

@woodblxssomcrowned || src.
The Uzumaki woman blinked, eyes widening momentarily in astonishment as she looked at the entirety of the house. Oh, dear... I leave for Toka's court to discuss our women's courts held every year and this happens... it must be because Hashirama has been gone attending his meetings as Hokage for so long, she thought, before her emerald hues flicker down to look at her only daughter and her youngest brother.
Mito leans down to kiss her daughter's forehead and cup her cheeks before attempting to do the same with Kichiroh. Getting a scroll hidden within her furisode, she merely tapped it with a seemingly dainty fingertip and all the ink within the house and out in the backyard, drawn to it like moth to a flame, flew towards the scroll only to be sealed within it. From deep within her, Kurama laughed at the commotion from His place in the most hidden depths of her psyche, deep within her mind, in a temple surrounded by a vast forest, a mountain range that cannot be scaled and graceful garden by the sea, nine tails lashing in His amusement as the Kyuubi looked onward.
The boy takes after me more than you.
Silence, I will hear no more, The she-jinchuriki told the bijuu as a light breeze started to blow the trees and the flowers; a reflection of her current temperament.
❝Give him to me, Kana,❞ Mito insisted, exasperated laughter leaving her painted lips and reaching her arms out so her daughter could give her her youngest in the hopes of soothing him. ❝Come, hush now, your okaa-san is here.❞

Some Cardcaptor Sakura stuff ended up on my dash and now I'm thinking about a classic magical girl au. Magical girl Izuna my beloved,,
Has anyone done that yet? Am I going to have to be the one to do that? I'm totally going to have to be that guy aren't I. You know what tho, I think I'm ok with that
Alright;
✨️ Magical girl Izuna time ✨️
I think one or the biiju should be his animal mascot / contractor. Kurama is the obvious choice but Matatabi could be fun, and also like, cmon, fire cat.
Alternatively though in a totally different direction, maybe Amaterasu can be the contractor. It could both play into Uchiha lore and also have some shit about his power coming from the rising sun with his magical girl transformation. Maybe he gets stronger the higher the sun is in the sky, and then weaker at night to the point that he can barley even transform. Maybe the villain of this hypothetical magical girl show could be contracted by Kaguya, and get stronger with the moon in contrast.
Fun scene where despite it being night, he's able to transform because of sun lamps or some conviniently placed solar pannels or smthn.
Maybe the villain of that episode was depending on tech or something, so he gets to shout some quippy line about how "Oh yeah don't you just LOVE the wonders of modern technology!" Before fucking bludgeoning them to death with a magical girl staff or whatever his weapon is
Anyways, set it in vaguely highschool because this shit is always set in a school and I wanna have fun hitting all the tropes.
It acts on a "monster/villain of the week" system with some big shadowy bad guy apparently pulling the strings behind the curtains. The monsters are all existing people or animals, "corrupted by the shadow of the moon" or something along those lines. The moon promises them power to fulfill their wishes but then the wish will inevitably go wrong or the power will be too much for the person, corrupting them.
Izuna uses the power of Amaterasu's light and violence to purify whatever person/animal and return them to normal. Only some people are harder and sometimes require some good old power of friendship yelling to get through to them (this does not stop Izuna from usually just defaulting to violence tho)
Amaterasu lore dumps on him that they must be being corrupted by the power of Kaguya-hime, who was sealed away over a thousand years ago. And that with each monster made, she must grow closer to fully escaping. Which is why it's important that Izuna purify these people as fast as possible, to make sure that Kaguya doesn't receive power from their contratracts with her.
In the meanwhile, they need to brainstorm a way to put Kaguya back in her prison if she escapes. Because if she continues corrupting people for their energy, unless Izuna finds out how she's able to communicate with them from her prison, she will escape.
I want Hikaku as the token best friend who's let in on the magical girl secret (maybe by accident at first) and helps from the sidelines despite having no real power (he's the one who would have pulled in clutch with those solar pannels / sun lamps)
Tobirama can be the classic "ice prince" character who Izuna kind of hates and has a stupid rivalry with that usually seems one sided; Till he manages to rile up Tobirama enough to bite back
Touka as a foil to Hikaku but for Tobirama, acting as his best friend and occasional pain in the ass for both him and Izuna (she thinks Izuna is hilarious and that the stress migraine he causes Tobirama is good for him)
Seemingly clueless Madara and Hashirama, who turn out to be the reincarnations of the guys who originally sealed Kaguya away. They've both just graduated and seem to be too busy entering the adult world to notice Izuna getting caught up in magic shenanigans
School princess and shrine maiden Mito, who's ancestor was someone who helped to seal Kaguya, and who's family shrine still contains some hints at how they did it.
Itama as that one specific trope of a really sickly guy who everyone at school is always gossiping about, and who Tobirama is wayyy overprotective of.
Izuna, Hikaku, Touka and Tobirama are all in the kendo club. Hashirama and Madara were kendo champions and rivals before they graduated and now Izuna and Tobirama seem to be taking up their mantles.
So, Izuna is defeating new moon-mad monsters every week. A lot of them seem to pop up in conviniently nearby places, but he's no closer to finding out how Kaguya supposedly gets in contact with them.
As his adventures progress, he sometimes catches the coat tails of a mysterious other magical girl, but magic prevents him from remembering their face. But they'll appear and help out when he's in a really bad situation, and he sometimes catches them just watching. Suspicious!! But they're too fast for him to ever pin down for a real conversation.
Anyways; Eventually it seems like the monster of this week is going to be a steadily growing tense and unstable Tobirama. Izuna had started to learn the signs of oncoming moon-madness, and he can sense Kaguya's power eating away at him. He swoops in just in time as he sees the power start to consume Tobirama, only to watch as he's somehow able to fight back and regain control.
Still, Izuna will do his due diligence and burn the power away before it can turn him!
Tobirama does not seem to appreciate this. At all.
Queue identity reveal! Only not on Izuna's end.
So, the first twist in our story is that Tobirama ends up being the bad guy.
Flashback some months ago to when this all started:
Tobirama somehow stumbled on Kaguya where she was sealed away. Just like how Amaterasu can only interact with the real world through Izuna, without a magical girl contracted to her to act as her hands, Kaguya could do nothing to escape. So when Tobirama found her, she was immediatley readying her pitch; promising him power, knowledge, all sorts of things if he just helped to set her free. Even offering to bring back his dead brothers.
Though... well, Kaguya's power was fickle. All gods powers are. Amaterasu was only able to contract Izuna without exploding him with the heat of the sun because he was already born one of her children. And Tobirama isn't Kaguya's to claim, which means he ran the risk of getting fucking vaporized or corrupted or going crazy if he accepted the contract.
But with the promise of bringing his brothers back on the table, he wasn't about to say no. And maybe it was through sheer fucking stubbornness, but he was able to handle it. Kind of. He's managing.
(Which is why Izuna can't just purify him with Amaterasu's light or by talking him down, like he does with every moon-mad monster he fights. He's not possessed like they are, he's a proper countracted magical girl, just like Izuna)
Tobirama was able to bring back Itama and give Kaguya some more freedom behind her seal, but still mostly locked away as she was, Kaguya didn't have the power to bring back Kawarama as well, and Itama was brought back weaker than he'd died as.
Which is when Tobirama took matters into his own hands.
He began approaching other people, much like Kaguya had approached him. Offering them contracts with Kaguya on her behalf— only they turned out to not be able to hold on to the contracts like he could. Being corrupted or going mad and becoming moon-posessed. Still, each contract he made added to Kaguya's power and brought her a little closer to escaping her seal. (And closer to giving Tobirama his last brother back)
(And hey, with Izuna keeping the damage to a minimum and helping purify the people after, Tobirama didn't have to feel as guilty about the damage he was causing)
(Still though, when it looked like Izuna was struggling, he'd try to pitch in. Or when a person made an especially desperate wish or had a specific goal to fulfill with their contract, he'd try his best to help with that. If only as an apology)
But stubbornness wasn't enough to keep him safe from the sharp edges of Kaguya's power forever, and as time passed and the more contracts he made and power he gathered for Kaguya, the more he began to risk being consumed himself.
Which leads back to the here and now, with Tobirama assuming that since Izuna attacked, he'd been made. And Izuna first being really fucking confused, then really fucking concerned, then really fucking mad.
They fight, Tobirama gets away, and the next day Izuna gets to experience the most painful school day of his fucking life. Starting with the realization that, while he can recognize Tobirama since he saw him transform, Tobirama doesn't actually know Izuna is the magical girl
Interlude:
Izuna: What the fuck why did he get a wish when he became a magical girl, I want a wish why the fuck didn't I get one
Amaterasu: :3
Izuna: AND PANTS?? WHY DOES HE GET PANTS???
Amaterasu: teehee <3
Izuna: Don't you fucking teehee me right now
Tobirama, knowing he's going to lose himself to Kaguya's power and aware that a) he's come too far there's no backing out now, and b) he's ok with losing himself if it means he can at least bring Kawarama back, decides to go full throttle. Skips all his classes and dissapears to go do shady shit behind the scenes as he massively moves up the time table for setting Kaguya free
He's already losing himself, might as well pump more power into people to create bigger, badder monsters— getting Kaguya even more power and putting even more strain on himself
This is about when Touka finds out what's happening with him, and decides she's ok with embracing the morally gray lifestyle for her bestie. She gets Tobirama to agree that once Kawarama is back, hes ending this shit for good. But till then, well, she always did tell him she'd have his back no matter what. Now she gets to parallel Hikaku even more!!! Yay!!!
Queue final battle time! Kaguya is on the very edge of escape and funneling more power into Tobirama than ever! Tobirama is either about to explode from the inside out or turn into a whole moon monster, it's unclear but he is this fucking close to losing it all. Quite literally, actually.
Touka gets to have a teeny bit of Kaguya's power for this battle, knowing the fight would be short enough and that she has enough self discipline to not immediatley go moon-mad.
She gets to face off with Hikaku, who gets his kendo sword blessed by Amaterasu so he can fight back against her moon powers.
It's all very dramatic and Tobirama gets to fully break out of his ice prince shell as he and Izuna scream and beat the shit out of eachother.
Im thinking that no matter what happens, Kaguya still gets free in the end and it's revealed that actually she and Amaterasu are like, bitter exes and this whole thing was a fucking lovers spat
Season 2 is just 20 episodes of Izuna being mad at Amaterasu as she and Kaguya make out passionately in the bg
Kidding. Probably. Idk I'm having a lot of thoughts rn, there's a shape of something to continue the magical girl train but I need to go do work shit so I'll leave this here for now and come back to it later

⛓ [ArrangedMarriage] — Hashirama and Mito || @senjufound
During such a turbulent period of militant struggles and noble establishment, marriage into a high clan was often a princess' dream. Oh, how girls would scuttle about within the hidden chambers hiding about the pagoda of their fathers' estate, whispering and giggling to each other about which high lord they would take. It's a behavior encouraged by their affluent mothers and equally smitten elder sisters who experience such luxury all the same.
Princess Mito, hailing from a family rather exclusive to the coast. Their rapturous weather and strict shrine-like culture didn't participate in high society quite like their sister clans did. Often would the matriarchs and mistresses within the lord's chamber travel to allied lands under the Daimyo control and host these tea ceremonies, serving a location for unrestricted gossip. Mito's mother was one of many that did such things. Mito herself, not so much.
At young age, while the eldest of many Uzumaki daughters, was born under an important star. A divine appointment granted by the heavens to imbue her with immense strength, resolve, and most importantly, duty to manage the affairs of the preternatural; the unknown, the living, the dead, and the beastial.
As her sisters would dress in elegant, restricting kimonos. White powder on their faces, their eyebrows plucked thin, and their long, burgundy hair wrapped painfully into a crown, Mito only participated in such formalities on the occasional important holiday or pinnacle event. Immensely blessed and full of heart to see her sisters enjoy their eloquent lives, Mito, herself, was equally happy attending her many duties as High Priestess.
Everything was written in the cards for her: hone her technique, build an immense spiritual foundation, creating the Grand Barrier, and seal all the demonic forces ravaging the land to ruin in the world. It was a perfect plan set into motion the moment she had turned 17.
However, those incredible, awe-inspiring talents were the same abilities that would land her in the spotlight where even her sisters did not shine— right into the watchful, calculating gaze of the Senju High Lord.
Thinking that she could easily decline such advances and pass along the duty to one of her many sisters ( those of which were more than happy to marry into one of the strongest, military shinobi clans at the time ), her father declined her refusal. The Senju Lord was strict on the conditions and would not allow substitute: it was Mito Uzumaki, or nothing at all.
Enraged by the contractual agreement, Mito spat in the face of her father, denouncing him and his merits as Lord Patriarch of Uzushio. Refuting any and all goodwill he may host for their land and its preservation. Unfortunately, all these criticisms fell on deaf ears.
Within the fortnight, Mito was packaged up in the same ornamental gowns that ought to be dressed on her sisters, her hair twisted in beautiful sacred braids with all the golden pins and talismans that as Shrine Maiden should never be without. Her eyelids shine with a deep, jade green with her lips painted a dark cherry rouge. With any luck, she was granted one female attendant for her travels and comforts; a meek young girl who could no more than squeeze her mistress' hand and affirm that this was only a meeting visit and that if his lord does not see fit, then she'll sooner be returning back to the Land of Whirlpools than she could blink.
Not exactly the words that she wanted to hear, but she won't dispirit the girl for trying.
At the Senju gates, their white-golden Palanquin lowered before the brooding iron doors, yawning open upon their arrival. The attendant was out first, opening the door for her highness, along with ensuring her outfit slipped out beautifully with not a detail out of place.
Once out, Mito did not bow, instead waited to for whoever to come towards her and lead her inside.

A storm was brewing in the South of Tobirama's troubled mind. His stoic yet sharp stare never faltered once on her, but she was wise enough to notice the distance between his spirit and his body within those pale reds. Her fingers twitched, braving the action to squeeze his hand until he jumped first, clamping down tighter on hers.
Mito's shoulders tensed, ready for a battle that would never come. Only for her to feel foolish when she remembered where she was at and how much the Senju would have to lose if he dare touch her with an unkindness.
"I would be honored to be your audience," she went to tip her head forward in formality until suddenly the ground was no longer beneath her, space was like silk ribbons flitting past her, and by the time she came to, she stumbled.
Biting her teeth and hissing, the Uzumaki's hand clawed into the Senju's clothed forearm as one of her knees lowered near to the ground. She barely the strength to salvage her dress from the dirt, but not the will to keep the nausea at bay. Waves of chakra, bare metal on skin, flames, fists, electricity, and pure ice have all tortured her body, but nothing could have prepared her for fast-travel.
"I— see, why they call you the names... that they do," her thoughts were fractured in this moment while her senses were slow to return.
Hands remain firm on his body, as if Tobirama were the anchor to her sanity. Mito looked about the area, registering this new, hidden place within the solemn, brooding fortress. ( Technically Hashirama's side was bursting with life and nature, but given her distaste with him, it ailed her to exist near the scent of flowers and sights of greenery, leaving only the saddest, dull iron corners of this forsaken place ).
The Senju pulled himself from her, leaving the Uzumaki to clasp her own hands together ( picking herself up, as she always had to ) to take to her curiosity. "Are you, perhaps, open to collaborations with your art?" she thought to ask. Her outstanding abilities, sealing techniques, and grand design— it was all art to her, and whatever Tobirama toiled with is considerably an artform as well. One she'd like to mix and produce something divine; beyond expectation.
One that could guarantee victory in war.
TOBIRAMA'S FINGERS GENTLY ENCLOSED MITO'S, causing his breath to catch in surprise. He had never expected her to grant him this indulgence. The sheer mystery of her decision to spend time with him bewildered him. While he himself had never actively sought an intimate partner, he understood that couples naturally gravitated towards each other. Yet, despite Hashirama's presumed availability, Mito had chosen to remain with him, to spend her precious moments in his company.
He dared not get ahead of himself. The wisest course of action for the stoic Senju was to savor every fleeting second he had with her before she realized that his brother was now free and would undoubtedly claim her attention. They would forge their own bond, getting to know one another intimately, engaging in whatever clandestine activities they desired. Tobirama couldn't be bothered to inquire about his brother's romantic escapades; it simply didn't concern him.
The thought gnawed at Tobirama's conscience, causing him to clench his teeth. Mito was far more than a mere conquest in Hashirama's extensive amorous pursuits. This Uzumaki lady possessed an unparalleled elegance and beauty, coupled with an indomitable power and strength that surpassed any woman he had ever encountered. She was the perfect match for his brother, an ideal bride.
Her voice pierced through his ruminations, momentarily halting their descent into darker realms. However, her next statement did little to assuage the internal turmoil that raged within him.
I'm due to be much closer to you.
What a dreadful reality. She was to become his in-law, a position that intensified the guilt of his feelings. To harbor affection for his brother's betrothed—to sink that low—was an unforgivable betrayal.
Shaking his head vigorously, as if to banish both the rumors and his own thoughts, Tobirama's grip tightened around Mito's hand. “People speak of matters beyond their comprehension,” he explained, forcefully diverting his mind from unwelcome contemplations. “My time is devoted to the art of inventing jutsu, some of which prove invaluable in battle,” he continued, determined to distract himself. “I would be honored to demonstrate a jutsu of which I am exceedingly proud.”
In the blink of an eye, they traversed the fabric of space and time, seamlessly transitioning from the serene gardens to a weathered wooden door, its faded glory evident.
“I hold you as dearly as I hold my brother,”  Tobirama began, his words guiding him along an uncertain path, “only he is permitted access to this area. You yourself acknowledged that you are closer to me than the idle gossipers. I intend to give truth to your claim,” he concluded, releasing her hand momentarily to deactivate the protective seals enveloping the door.

Headcanons and a short fanfic for Kureishi Misuyo🦴
Tumblr media
Art by Mito-Amatsu
He goes ice skating 3 to 4 times a week because he enjoys it so much. He loves watching figure skating too.
He is really good at cooking especially curry and rice.
He dates a lot of people and Cosmo tells him he needs to stop acting like he’s a spring chicken and get married already 🤣🤣🤣
He hates caffeinated drinks and it makes him feel sick.
A day out shopping…
Kureishi had a lazy start to his Sunday as he woke up later than usual and went to check his fridge so he could make some breakfast, he gasped at the sight of it being so empty.
“…well damn…and I’m making dinner for the boys tonight…”, he said with a sigh, “….alright, time to go shopping”. He’d quickly shower and grab some breakfast on the go before heading to the supermarket.
He’d try a different supermarket that was having some sweet deal and he couldn’t pass up on that.
He had got all his supplies for the week before passing the bakery, “…oh I’m sure the boys would want something sweet…Adam got us in the habit of having dessert after dinner ever since he joined us”, he said with a little chuckle as he looked at the desserts. He wasn’t much of a sweets kind of person especially with his training and what not but he did indulge every now and then.
He looked at the various desserts and couldn’t decide, they all looked so good, “…need some help, sir?”, asked a person dressed in what seemed like a chef’s coat.
Kureishi looked up and smiled weakly, “…yes, they all look so good but I’m not sure what my students would like…they eating everything really”.
“I baked these all this morning…maybe a nice French chestnut cake…it’s light and has whipped cream…”, they said with a smile.
He was sold, that sounded so good, “…I’ll take one French chestnut cake then…”, he said with a smile.
The baker smiled and nodded before boxing up the cake, “…so you been working here a long time?”, Kureishi asked gently as he waited.
“No, I just moved here recently, I own my own bakery just down the street but I also supply this supermarket…”, they said with a smile as they handed in the box, “…I’m Y/N by the way”.
“That’s so cool, I’ll pop by your bakery soon…I’m Kureishi Mitsuyo…I’m a chiropractor not too far from here”, he said gently.
“Oh I’ve heard about you…only good things”, Y/N said with a smile.
He chuckled in response, “…that’s good to hear! I try my best! And if you ever need a chiropractor, come on by “.
“I shall, I hope you enjoy the cake!”, Y/N said with a smile as Kureishi smiled and nodded before heading off with his groceries to check out.
Dinner was a hit with the boys, “…I got some cake from the local supermarket…the baker own that shop you think is cute, Cosmo”, Kureishi said as he brought the cake out for them.
“Oh yeah! I went there a few times…they’re really good”, Cosmo said as Adam cut them some cake.
“The owner is pretty cute, don’t you think, master?”, Adam asked teasingly.
“The baker? I mean yeah but I didn’t want to hit on them since they were pretty nice and all”, Kureishi said with a little blush.
“Can it, Adam…he needs to get married already! He literally has so many people that he’s just ‘dating’. The baker is really nice…maybe even too good for him”, Cosmo said with a giggle as he ate some cake.
“Yeah you’re right, Cos…”, Adam laughed as he tucked into his piece of cake.
“I’m gonna kick both of your asses…eat your damn cake and shut up”, Kureishi said with a pout but deep down he knew they were right. It was about time he did settle down and maybe even have a few kids. He wasn’t getting any younger that’s for sure.
Maybe he’ll pay the baker a visit later that week to tell them how much the boys liked the cake…and ask them out on a date.

Honestly at this point i'm pronouncing "hxh has no noteworthy female characters" to be an ice cold, bottom of the barrel take.
Come on a journey with me.
Anyone who knows me in real life (which is hopefully almost no one on here) knows how insane I am when it comes to female characters getting shafted in media- and in shonen manga specifically. No doubt a side effects of being a girl who's favorite character was sakura in the 2015 naruto fandom- but that's another story. The point is I'm not coming at this from a "boo hoo why so woke" standpoint, or an "it's really not the deep" mentality. I care about this shit- truly i do. which is exactly why the way people talk about this issue bothers me so much.
I distinctly remover being 13 or so when I saw HxH pop up on netflix (or some other streaming service, i don't remember) and looking at the title card with Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio and thinking "huh. no women?" bc damn, even nart had women (they were written misogynistically, shafted from the narrative, and treated like fucking pariahs by fans... but they were there), and at the time i had a disease where I couldn't dedicate time towards watching something unless it had a prominent female character for me to latch on to. that disease is called ~being tired of misogyny~ and i'm still a carrier to this day. so this past version of me wanted to do some research, so i looked up something like "does HxH have female characters." I saw one of two responses: 1) sadly no. and 2. no, shut up snowflake.
I honestly don't remember what finally pushed me over the edge to start watching it, but i'm so so glad i did. had several queer awakenings. a very formative time for me, etc. aaaaaallll that is to say: I get it. I’ve been there. i don't withhold criticism from a show just because i like it.
Because it's true that HxH had no female characters... in 1998, when it's started it's serialization. like there were a few background women and also Mito, but that's it, that's all we got. and for a while that's what we would continue to get: every female character introduced seemed to exist as a cog in the wheel of one of the main male characters' storylines. even characters who i love very much and think have a lot of potential, like Canary, only seemed to show up briefly to supplement Killua's narrative and then leave. all of this is true.
But the thing people need to realize about Hunter x Hunter is that it has been going on for a long time.  The chimera ant arc concluded it's serialization in 2012. and with the hiatuses that became necessary due to Togashi's health, it meant publishing continued really slowly. this current arc of the manga- the succession war- has been going on since 2017- (arguably longer, if you count the expedition arc as a prelude which i personally kinda do), but either way we have over half a decade of real time years that have passed. and one of the things i really admire about Togashi is his ability to grow as an author- to take in feedback and improve where he needed to improve. We can see it, for instance, in his history of writing queer characters- trans characters in particular. See this great video for a further breakdown.
There’s more to be said on this topic but that’s for another day. This isn’t an “in defense of Togashi” post, he’ll be ok. It’s the female characters themselves that I must rise up and defend. I fight an endless war on an empty battlefield, population Me, and this is my life’s purpose.
What I am trying to say is this: HxH is not the same series it was in 1998. It’s not the same series as it was in 2011. And what we have seen as the series progressed, was the introduction and elevation of more and more interesting female characters. This has culminated in what very well might be my favorite arc in the series -unfinished as it is- the succession war. and, without giving away any spoilers, I just have to say……
THERE ARE SO MANY WONDERFUL WOMEN. DO YOU SEE THEM?!!? DO YOU SEE MY BEAUTIFUL WIVES?!? MY LARGE AUTOMOBILES MY-
I cannot fathom how anyone who is caught up with the manga continues to parrot this take. Why would you say that. Why would you do this to our women. There are soosososo sososoooo many fantastic female characters, old and new, and more are added literally every chapter because togashi loves it when I (me specifically) have to make more flashcards. There are female protagonists, antagonists, supporting characters, antiheroes, etc. women with all different kinds of personalities and motivations that don’t feel like a copy-pasted trope. Women who (gasp!) come in different shapes and sizes!?!? Women who don’t fit the traditional standards of beauty are just as important and just as beloved as those who do. and because I’m a crazy person I have gone around and calculated “screen time” (page time?) as well as ratios of male to female characters and folks the numbers are looking good. There was a point in time when I tried to memorize the names and faces of every single female character on the wiki (see above note on flashcards) because again, I’m a crazy person, and it just made me realize how incredible this ensemble cast is looking right now and how excited I am to see more of them. I am the succession war’s biggest glazer so yes, obviously I come with a bias; but here me when I tell you this: you want more well-written, prominently featured, multidimensional female characters in your little shonens (bad place to look, but unfortunately I am the biggest offender of this) please for god’s sake. For god’s sake read the manga.
So yeah. Sick and fucking tired of seeing people say “HxH has no women” They’re there babe!!!! They’re there!!! You wanna say some shit like that, at least put a caveat of *up until the end of the anime so that people know that information is eight years out of date. yeah watch me be petty. It just astounds me that someone could look me in the eyes and tell me that Melody, Bisky, Theta, Morena, Oito, Woble, Kacho, Fugetsu, Camilla, Machi, Pakunoda, Alluka, Komugi, Kite(yes welcome), Cheadle, Canary, and now Longhi have no importance in the narrative.
It’s true that there is always a time and a place for criticism…  but why does it seem like there’s only five of us trapped in here in this room who are excited to talk about the potential for Theta x Vorksen work situationship... on the ethics of Morena's class war, or an Oito Phantom Troupe connection, or the thematic implications of the madonna being juxtaposed with the antichrist and also maybe satan. Yeah so we're trapped in this room and it's great but occasionally I'll hear shouting from the outside and it's some horrible take or the same unfunny, super gross joke, or some guy who thinks netero setting off a nuke was "peak aura" or smth. And we're still in here, beckoning, offering shelter from the storm.
All you gotta do is open the doors and start taking notes.

How can I deserve to be happy... and I have nothing in offer to return?
The Senju Matriarch felt her heart sink deep within the recess of her chest. Was this how her beloved daughter felt this entire time? Did she fail her as a mother? Did Hashirama fail them both- No, that is a blasphemous thought to even dare cross her mind.
Squeezing Maeko's body into the thick drapery of fitted outer robes and clinking jewelry, Mito did all but crush her child into her body, as if she were to extend her soul from herself into her. "Who is telling you such things?" Mito spoke into her hair, a protective wrath spinning within herself, though it seems as if the answer may already be obvious; there was no one, just the ghosts of Maeko's self criticism.
"You are not a leech," the Uzumaki woman spoke, a bit more stern than she wanted," you have every right to be selfish. This new world was made for you and your brothers and I want you to flourish in it as your father and I intended."
She pleaded with minor half-truths. The slashing of feudalism and the establishment of everything was a collaborative effort between the Senju and the Uchiha— the Uzumaki clan was a package deal with the Senju benefactors, unfortunately, but the stringent politics were nothing more than just that. Mito's heart was in it as much as Hashirama and Madara's were, and she'd be damned to discount the efforts she's put forth to not only procure amnesty for forsaken clans, but also in sealing the apocalyptical beasts of this planet.
"You can contribute, my flower-" she hugged her tighter, her claw-like nails clutching into the shoulder seam of Maeko's outerwear," I'll find a list of things for you and we can discuss it: mother to daughter."
Very carefully, Mito raised a hand to caress her face, feeling over the soft of her cheek down the hard edge of her jaw. "I know presentation to uphold your father's legacy feels like the most important thing in the world, but it doesn't always have to be. I've been there with my own father and I had nothing when I pushed him away. You are of me thus I know such a strength exists within you as well. You only need to cultivate it and break out of this mold restricting you."
Had it been her father, she might have pulled away from the embrace that Mito drew her woebegone child into. His affection still felt hollow to her, and her body still bristled and recoiled in response to his attempts at regaining her favor and bridge the crevasse between them. It had not been his decision that had refused her a place in the academy, but he had done nothing to help her either. He had asked her to accept it, because if his children didn't abide by the new rules of their changing world, why would anyone else? And when she'd asked what she was supposed to do now that she was no longer going to become shinobi, he had not answered her, and then his valued attention had been required elsewhere. He had yet to answer the question. Maybe he was still deliberately avoiding the uncomfortable topic. Or maybe he had forgotten about it, as a matter less pressing than others.
Unfurling her hands, leaving marks in her palms where nails had curled into them, raising one to touch the braid and the intricately knotted rosy pink cordage that held it together. It gently highlighted the tint of red within her brown hair, a nod to Uzumaki blood in her. Another name she found herself unable to live up to.
"I wish I could see a path for me, any path. But it's all just...dark. I don't know what will make me happy," she uttered, a small, pitiful whimper escaping her throat. "Have... I even earned the luxury to be happy at all?" She twisted the end of the braid firmly between her trembling fingers, feeling the texture of the strands as they moved across each other.
For shinobi, life was short and happiness hard-earned. You fought and survived, to earn those moments of peace in between. You found happiness in the people you loved. In keeping them safe. In fighting for them. In surviving, but being nonetheless prepared to die for them. You endure for them. Right? Like her mother did. Was that not the way? So what the hell was she enduing for her loved ones?!
"How can I deserve to be happy, when I know how hard everyone I care for works, and I have nothing to offer in return?"
She felt tears in her eyes as she stared down into the floor, the lines of the tatami mats blurring, and an urge to tug hard at the braid her mother had to carefully made and draped over her shoulder, to justify the tears with physical pain. Physical pain was something she could endure. That was something she was good at.
"My merits are still worthless. I have no skills that are useful to someone who is not a shinobi. Everything I know is worthless. I know nothing that is meaningful. Nothing I have is something anyone wants to needs, nothing I can give. I just exist; just needing and taking from others!"
Worthless. Worthless.
Drawing her knees up and into her chest, she curls up.
"I am sorry," she sniffs, an apology that's unspecific and unasked for by anyone but the shame of voicing her feelings. Gods. It was still so early in the day, warm and golden morning sun filtering in through the windows of her room, but already Maeko felt cold, shivery, and utterly exhausted and ready for everything to be over.
"I just...I don't want to just take. I want...I want to contribute...and enrich, somehow. I don't want to just be seen as one who can only take and need from everyone anymore. But...maybe being someone who takes is all I will ever be in this village?"

Hands Like Ice by SeriouslyCalamitous

Sharing A Bed | Snowed In | Getting Together
Cautiously, almost like he didn’t want to, Pac asked, “And do you feel trapped in here with me?”
Fit tilted his head. “No.”
“Why not?”
Fit didn’t believe he could vocalize a response. To him, the answer was natural, obvious — Pac was different, because he was Pac. The solution was looped with its explanation. Perpetual. Constant. Obvious. Most everything tied back to Pac when it came to Fit’s brain.

Fit, Pac, and Tubbo rent out a cabin for Christmas with their kids. Nothing can prepare them for the onslaught that is unpredictable weather patterns and matchmaker children working hand-in-hand.

Fit e pac woah woah fit e pac woah woah
SeriouslyCalamitous strikes again with a banger christmas fic with the morning crew and the kiddos

I failed at going to bed last night so I'm a little crunchy right now and right now I'm putting Naruto guys on a little scale (would they like moogles/would the moogles like them) and pls imagine...the little dudes...
I think Sakura and the moogles have an understanding (she's nice but scary if mad so don't try anything), Sasuke is tormented (because he reacts funny and should lighten up), and Naruto and the moogles are best friends (is anyone going to raise this child? No? Finders keepers kupo). Kakashi and the moogles.....maybe drinking buddies (I think he's polite at least)
Sandaime and the moogles have an understanding but he's on thin ice, kupo.
Lee and the moogles are besties, Gaara is too scary for moogles until he chills out
Hashirama, Mito, and the moogles feel like they'd get along swimmingly...Madara and Tobirama are in the moogle shenanigans crosshairs depending on the day and mood? (Since moogles are sometimes wise and sometimes immature, not unlike small children, maybe Tobirama is chill with the moogles?)
This is vibes only, but I think maybe Izuna and the moogles somehow get along weirdly well (he's polite but also funny to mess with, kupo).
