Mirie it is while sumer ilast
This beautiful song is from the first half of the 13th Century. It was written in Middle English possibly in or around modern-day Cambridgeshire.
The manuscript containing the song was found, just hanging out inside some book, in a Library at the University of Oxford.
Why settle for one video, when you can have two!

The Sword, Wærgwengléom
The sword is called Waergwengléom. It is a landright, like a head hung on a castle wall. "Dare not," it warns.
And although it is a trophy of Crwdón, slipping through time from father to son, its inheritor does not wield it.
It was carried from battle by Dórin Aelfdagna, who cut Róv Canhagwyn down - and it is cursed.

I can sing 'Mirie it is while sumer ilast' (early 13th century) from memory. I don't think any of the liturgical music I know that well is any earlier.
please do look it up if you dont know the date bc there may be at least an approximate answer and otherwise the last option will completely dominate and this poll will be boring.
and dont be like 'but i cant sing'... just answer the earliest tune you know well enough that you COULD sing it
periods of western classical music provided only for reference

matcha!
matcha: if you had the opportunity to meet one person from history, who would you choose and why?
this is really hard! i would love to meet someone from the proto-indo-european culture, but i understand if that's not in line with the question. I would love to meet the scribe that transcribed Miri it is while sumer ilast as well, just so i could sing it with them, but AGAIN idk the name so idk if that counts. I would love to speak with Virgil about what the fuck he was thinking when he wrote the Aeneid because that poem fucks me up, but i haven't read the entire thing so I'd feel bad speaking with him, yannow? maybe alexander the great. i dont really respect him but i think he'd be interesting to speak with.
#asks#☁#THIS WAS SUCH A COMPLICATED ANSWER FOR SUCH A SPECIFIC QUESTION IM SO SORRY BUT IM SO INDECISIVE

Chronicles of Autumn 1247, consolidation of things.
Because I can. Link to fic here.
Best representation of Crowley: Here.
Best representation of Aziraphale: Here.
Map of the Abbey: Here.
---
Notes and Bits:
The story's title is because I read someone saying it would be easier to name your fic like old composers named their music, e.g. Symphony no. 9, and I liked that idea for some reason.
The chapter titles are from a song written in Middle English from the early 13th century, Mirie it is while sumer ilast (Merry it is while summer lasts).
Named demons are from the grimoire Ars Goetia, which was not written for another 200 years or so after the story ends.
Spoilers and Story bits:
Storywise, Brother Thomas/Taoma did not change his religion, he is still Sunni Muslim. The story takes place just before the 7th Crusade, and Taoma would have met his partner, Richard Lacy, between the 4th and 5th Crusades. In reality this would be a tragically doomed love story, and maybe there are a few doomed romances from the crusades, but we have demonic intervention on our side.
William went to the University of Cambridge which would have only been a few decades old at the time. That's where he met a gardener named Albert.
Robert was a merchant's son who left his small town to travel to the city, and John was his friend who tagged along. Romance followed them on their journey.
Nicholas sort of already tells you the story of him and Gregory. Gregory's side of the story is he really wanted to make it up to the handsome man he just run over, and things got out of hand and now he's in love!

Stealing this lol. I'm also using Youtube bc I like it more than spotify
Mustard Final Battle - Pokemon SwSh OST
Mirie It Is While Sumer Ilast - Vocantus
Get Down On It - Kool and the Gang
Be the One - Dua Lipa
East Province (walking ver.) - Pokemon SV OST
Requiem of the Dawn - Linked Horizon
Team Magma/Aqua - Pokemon ORAS OST

Well, this is accurate to my personality, I think ... but it also exposes how wacky my taste in music is ... I don't actually listen to pokemon this often (though it does have a fire soundtrack lol), and my favorite singer (Ai Otsuka) and composer (Chopin) didn't appear!

from what i've figured out most extant medieval music is either about how much winter sucks, getting drunk, or wanting to fuck, which, the three cardinal emotions
