we reached the barbecue place and i can see minho with q and dae, so i drag kitty with me and we walk with them.

once stella has arrived we all sit, i blush when minho pulls out a chair for me and sits beside me; kitty gives me a cheeky smile from across the table which causes me to blush harder.

yuri starts goving a toast and my eyes stray to minho, who’s standing near dae in all his beauty.

from afar i admire his jawline, that seems soft enough to kiss yet sharp enough to cut me. my eyes drift upwards straying towards his hair which somehow falls perfectly and i smile when he laughs.

our eyes lock and i choke on air; q looks at me concerned and asks me if i’m ok.

“yeah just a hiccup” i deflect; i can hear minho’s laugh and i can tell he’s staring over at me smirking and shaking his stupidly beautiful head.

i’m about to close my instagram and step out to head back to campus when i hear stella and kitty.

“hey kitty, you’re friends with minho right?” i hear stella’s sickly sweet voice carry to where i’m standing.

“yeah” kitty hesitantly says.

“do you think you could give me his number, we were talking a bunch tonight and i think i’m gonna ask him out,” she says; my jaw tightens and i get the urge to punch her.

“i’m pretty sure he has a girlfriend,” kitty says forcing a smile.

“are you sure? or is it because yn has a crush on him,” stella’s voice isn’t the nice calming one anymore, it’s almost angry?

my thoughts are cut off when someone grabs my wrist from behind.

“what are you doing?” minho says as he spins me around, causing me to collide with his chest.

“nothing,” i say quickly my eyes flitting from his eyes to his lips.

said lips slowly curve into a smirk; “if i could i would kiss you senseless right now,”.

i gulp, flushed. then his body isn’t shielding me from the world anymore and he’s dragging me outside.

i whine “minho you can’t just say that,”

i’d already forgotten about stella when minho’s arm was in mine.

minho and q walked kitty, stella and i back to our dorms. i’m about to head inside with kitty and stella when minho pulls me back out.

“yes i’ll call you before i go to bed-” my words are cut off when minho pulls me into a knee weakening kiss; my fingers cling onto his coat while his arms encircle around my waist encasing me in his warm embrace.

when his lips leave mine my eyes are still shut reeling from the kiss.

“what was that for?” i cringe at how breathy my voice sounds and hide my face in his chest.

his finger hooks underneath my chin and forces me to look into his eyes.

“i told you i was going to kiss you senseless,” he chuckles.

i giggle and slap his chest, “good night, i love you,”

“i love you too darling,” he places another peck on my lips and walks off with q, who’s making some gagging noise. shaking my head i walk into my dorm.

“well that was disgusting,” kitty says.

“what?”

“you guys are disgustingly in love,” juliana adds.

i blush and head to my room to change, coming out i see stella come up to me.

“you and minho are really cute together” her voice is back to being annoyingly sweet.

“thanks,” i say forcing a smile, “do you want some tea?”

stella shakes her head and walks into her room.

Anna Cathcart Can't Wait for 'XO, Kitty' Fans to 'Freak' About Season 2 'Surprises'

Kitty the character is not very likable. I wanted her to thrive & live her best life but I quickly realized she's one of those protagonists that makes it hard for the viewer to root for them. She reminds me a little of Belly from The Summer I turned pretty. They're both a bit insufferable, self absorbed & like to play the victim in certain scenarios, when they're actually the problem.

The most funny & unhinged part about Kitty was how she kept falling for anyone who breathed her way. I got whiplash trying to keep up with who she was crushing on each episode. And maybe its because I'm old and rotted, but I just don't understand that behavior. And perhaps I'm not meant to fully understand it and that's okay....But I do understand that she still is a teenager trying to figure things out, through trial & error, as she should be!

Tbh by the end of the season I was not shipping her with anyone; because it was clear that she needed some alone time to work on things within herself. And I'm glad she chose that path, but the way the season ends leads you to believe that maybe Kitty might try things out with Min Ho back in LA. I hope she doesn't go that route...cuz even tho I believe she's grown to really like him, I still think she needs to take a beat on dating. Kitty went through too much of an emotional rollercoaster with Yuri and Dae. She needs to recover from that first before she opens herself up to dating again.

Overall I think I was just caught off guard by how unlikable she came across to me. But dont get me wrong, Kitty is not a bad person...she just needs some self reflection and growing up to do. She's got all the time in the world to figure things out. I've got faith in her.

Review: XO, Kitty

"I told you I know matchmaking."

With XO, Kitty, Jenny Han has yet again created another amazing rom-com full of diversity for teenagers to enjoy. Wonderfully whacky and cheesy in the way every To All The Boys film is, this creative show tells the tale of the youngest Covey sister - Katherine "Kitty" Covey - as she endeavors to find herself (and love) in Korea. After discovering the school her mother attended as a young woman is also the school her boyfriend Dae attends, Kitty applies upon a whim for a scholarship and, to her surprise, is accepted. A mix of a K-drama and your stereotypical rom-com, XO, Kitty is an interesting depiction of the uncertainty of teenage love and life in the modern world. Unexpectedly, as it was something that was certainly not advertised by Netflix upon XO, Kitty's release, is its amazing discussion of the heteronormativity of society. Between all of its bizarre plot lines and comedic gags, this show has a brutally important message of inclusivity and acceptance and, at the forefront, that love is boundless. An extremely dramatic show (in what is frankly an unrealistic way), and with an eccentric cast of characters, it is safe to say this show is bound to make you laugh and smile with how utterly hilarious it is. A binge-worthy Gen-Z-coded TV show, XO, Kitty is utterly perfect if you need a light-hearted comedy to keep you going.

Some people will say they love Dae and he deserves better while actively shipping his friend and ex gf together as if it doesn’t break all the trust.

While still bringing up the shit he was DRAGGED INTO in season 1 to fault him.

The writers really don't care for dae and it shows so much this season. First of all, what happened to my confident son??

Mr. "So do you. Look at how much we have in common. I'm Dae." Right off the bat in the third movie, he wanted to connect with Kitty and introduced himself to her, taking the lead. Kitty was so nervous, but he didn't make her feel embarrassed and just went along with it. In the end, he called her by the name she felt most comfortable with. Little things like that can mean so much.

Kitty also takes the lead, considering she is the first one to text him with the help of Peter. They meet each other halfway, and when they don't agree on things, they compromise. Something that Dan taught Kitty. Although Kitty's "so you're saying i should try and change him?" did make me laugh.

Not to mention the fact that dae did not hesitate (or pause should i say) to undress in front of kitty in season 1. He clearly felt comfortable enough to change shirts while still maintaining eye contact and paying attention to what she had to say. It wasn't until she turned away from nerves and respect. I'd like to think that he didn't care if Kitty turned away or not.

Dae taking the lead once again with their almost and first kiss! Mr. "Maybe there's something I can do." and "Something I should've done the minute you got here." Talk about swoon. He knows their first kiss should've been right after they hugged at the entrance ceremony when they reunited. But alas, the writers said we can't have nice things.

That's why I can't believe the writers just threw in him saying, "I'm the king of awkward pauses." Whether they meant it like on stage or relationship wise, I don't believe it.

I also don't see him with eunice. Yes, they had some nice moments, but i don't see it. He's clearly still heartbroken from his breakup with Kitty, and their friendship was so belittled this season. Kitty didn't even tell Dae what was going on with her family or minho until the last minute! And they're supposed to be best friends!!

They're making it really hard to watch the next season if it does get renewed. And the only reason I will watch is because of Minyeong. He deserves so much more recognition than what this American drama gave him and in what was supposed to be his big break into western mainstream media. He only posted one behind the scene photo for this season, and I'm not surprised because of the hate he's gotten. It just breaks my heart. Justice for dae and minyeong.

Rewatching xo Kitty knowing the outcome, and I'm more convinced than ever that Dae deserved far better

Be warned, it’s a long one

That boy went through so fucking much. He TRIED to tell Kitty what was going on. He really tried.

He only got involved in the fake relationship thing with Yuri because he was at risk of being kicked out of school. His girlfriend lived on the other side of the world, as far as he knew, and the relationship with Yuri wasn't real. He is a teenage boy; he probably thought no one would get hurt. Yes, he was wrong to presume that. This isn’t a ‘Dae is perfect’ post. He isn’t. That’s what makes him so likeable to me. But he said himself - he only agreed it with Yuri four hours before he saw Kitty at the welcome party. He was completely blindsided by her, and STILL one of the first things he said to her was 'I need to tell you something'. HE TRIED TO TELL HER! But Yuri cut in. He cared about Kitty, but this was his future, and I completely understand why he went along with it. Given the chance to explain - which Yuri promised him he could do the following day - he knew Kitty enough to know she would understand. But he couldn't risk his future. One night wasn't worth getting kicked out of school for. Kitty completely blindsided him showing up out of the blue, and he was put on the spot. But this was his life. His education. His entire future.

It sucks that Kitty got hurt, but she was the one who flew across the world without telling him. Dae had to do what was best for him and his family, which was accepting Yuri's financial aid. Even after that, he tried to explain to her again. She refused to talk to him. And I get it, I really do. Again, these characters are teenagers and acting emotionally. Kitty was understandably furious and hurt. But Dae did not get the opportunity to explain then either. He tried again the next day, but there were bigger, far more powerful people involved, pulling the strings and manipulating him. This isn’t a grown man who should know better. This is a SIXTEEN YEAR OLD BOY! He is going through a lot. His mom has recently died. His family is brassic. His sister is being bullied, made worse by the fact her shoes are falling apart so everyone knows the family is poor, and you could see how upset Dae was that he couldn't help by getting her new shoes. He is at risk of getting kicked out of school because he can't afford the tuition. It seems obvious to me that his father is not coping well, and Dae is forced to step up and be there for his sister. At the same time, he is trying to be there for Kitty who, yes, has lost her mom, but she has no idea of the other struggles Dae faces. Should he have respected her enough to confide in her about his family situation? Probably. But I understand him making bad decisions as a teenager.

So someone comes along and offers to make all that stress go away. They're going to pay some of his school fees! And all he has to do is pretend to be in a relationship with them. Who wouldn't accept that offer? Then he is told to sign an NDA. Again, he is sixteen. He hasn't got a lawyer who can explain the implications to him. All he knows is he is getting a job and a salary and security for his family out of this deal where he just has to pretend to date a girl. The reality of it doesn't hit him until Yuri reminds him that he cannot tell Kitty about anything because now he has signed an NDA and will be sued. Everything he has been offered, all the great things for his family, are at risk of disappearing if he tells Kitty the truth. And at first he's going to do it anyway. He loves this girl, he trusts her, and he would do it to be with her... until Kitty herself proves she can't be trusted. She spilled the secret about Min Ho. At that point, he does the right thing for everyone involved. He literally cannot be with Kitty and tell her the truth without potentially getting himself SUED. He might love her, but they are teenagers. No high school romance is worth that risk, I don't care what anyone says. So he ends the relationship rather than string her along. And you can see it kills him to do it (big up Minyeong Choi's acting), but it is best for everyone involved. And tbf, he has little choice. His dad could lose his job too, and that is not worth it. It's just not. He doesn't have the luxury of acting out against his parents, like Yuri, and knowing she'll still never have to worry about a thing. He doesn't have the luxury of being able to do whatever the hell he wants, like Min Ho. He has a loving and supportive family unit in his father and sister, but everything they have is at risk. And he can fix it. He can make their lives easier by breaking his own heart. It is a selfless thing that he does.

I don't blame Kitty for her reactions. Again, she is a teenager, and she has an amazing family, a supportive step mom, financial security... ultimately, Kitty is a little spoiled by that. It's understandable. But she creates a lot of problems for herself with her lack of life experience. She needs to grow up a little bit, realise she doesn't know and understand everything, and give people a chance.

Min Ho was never really Dae's friend. He is a spoiled brat. He missed hanging out with him so he decides to throw his toys out the pram and be a jerk, just to have Dae back? That’s not teenager behaviour, that’s toddler behaviour. Okay, is he sweet to Kitty at times? Undoubtedly. I think he genuinely does grow to care about her. It doesn't make him any less of an asshole though. He could see how much his supposed 'best friend' was hurting, and he actively stirred the pot between him and Kitty, for his own agenda. Calling Yuri to tell her about the outdoors club. Insisting that Kitty was flirting with him. Pushing the 'Portland stalker' narrative. Telling Professor Lee about the dorm situation. Trying to make her get mad at Dae again when the truth came out and they got back together. GOING BEHIND HIS 'BEST FRIENDS' BACK AND TELLING THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE THAT HE WAS ALSO IN LOVE WITH HER AND BEING HAPPY SHE BROKE UP WITH HIM. He is an awful friend to Dae. And I'm not saying Dae is perfect, and there are definitely things he could have done better. But Min Ho is a spoiled, pretentious asshole who really doesn't care about anyone but himself and I hope Kitty doesn't develop feelings for him in return. He is used to getting everything he ever wanted, with no consequences (none that he cared about, anyway) and it’s boring. Kitty has shown zero romantic interest in him. Long may that continue.

Ultimately, Q is the only true friend that Dae has. I hope they will maintain that in season 2 by having him come clean about Florian. Otherwise, everything Dae has gone through for his family will be for nothing because he loses his room and board scholarship. I think Q has a strong sense of right and wrong, and a good moral compass, so regardless of his feelings for Florian, he will do the right thing. At least, I truly hope so.

Kitty and Dae need some time apart. They met when they were like twelve? And have been online dating ever since. They’ve never looked at anyone but each other romantically, and their entire being has been tied to this person who they couldn’t physically be with. That takes a toll. They need time apart to figure themselves out. Kitty, to explore her sexuality, and Dae to just get his life back on track. I truly believe that, in time, they could grow back together. I don’t think they can survive without each other. They’re too interwoven.

Anyway, a parting thought - JUSTICE. FOR. DAE.
