i was playing minecraft and found a mineshaft, so, of course, i explored it because that's a really easy way to find a lot of ores (and get treasure chests along the way). and i did find a lot of ores, including diamonds and gold but like the implications what was this ancient civilisation mining here??? why is there no way to the surface most of the time? like at some point theoretically there were people digging tunnels there, and the walls were filled with redstone, gold, lapis lazuli and sometimes diamond and they just kept going
they went straight ahead not pausing one second for the gold that was right there
what were they mining? what were they looking for?
the existence of spider generators suggest that maybe they were farming xp, or maybe something to do with the spiders' venom, but the only thing i know venom is used for is antivenom but all the other long lines of mining? why do that?
were they looking for something else? did it not exist anymore? or did they just want the rock
like just an army of people digging tunnels all over for precious rock and annoying gold getting in the way or did they just like to dig?
i feel like there's something there i'm not seeing

I feel like we’ve all created our own mineshaft with pillars and everything. Maybe not the spawnable ones (obviously op built them but they look like the ones you can find), but I think this is a universal experience.

also really important addition, OP only uses stone picks:
