Maple Syrup || Matthew Knies
author's note: I'm back kinda??? This is based on the song "Maple Syrup" by The Back Seat Lovers. My friend introduced this song to me this week, and I had to write something with it.
summary: Maple Syrup by The Backseat Lovers
pairing: Matthew Knies x reader
word count: 1.2k
warnings: drinking, breakup, idk what else
---------
“I still have your picture on the wall; I still have the nightmares where I would have to call you to calm down.”
Your bedroom walls echoed with the mosaic of memories, each photograph a point in the outline of your love story with Matthew. The snapshots were once a collection of shared moments, you and Matt both wanting to remember the small moments, but now hung as silent witnesses to the love that had encapsulated the first two years of your college experience. The pictures had been a gift from Matthew before he left for his first full season in the NHL.
In the top left corner, a photo showed your second interaction with Matthew while at Mariucci, an argument that marked the early days of your connection. While the two of you had met once before, this was the first time you truly talked. The argument was simple: Matthew was confused about his Captain’s skate time and thought the ice was his at the wrong time. The humor of the two of you arguing—just once—so early on became a cherished joke between the men’s and women’s hockey teams. The spark ignited the flame, leading to Matthew asking for your number. The humor of the photo echoed through the years, turning into the prologue of a love story told through hundreds and hundreds of photographs.
At the bottom right, a Facetime screenshot held the weight of the first goodbye. Matthew’s beginnings in Toronto marked the first time in two years that your worlds existed apart. The photo captured your smiling face with slightly reddened eyes, containing the concealed vulnerability that Matthew had comforted after a grueling physical therapy session. A session that stemmed from a knee injury, a scar from a season-ending fall into the boards that seemed to write the turning point in your and Matthew’s lives.
“I still think about you all the time. When I step out of the shower, I’m reminded of the night when we slept in the back of your car, and you left me with a pretty cool scar.”
Exiting the shower, droplets of water traced the contours of your body; the refreshing cleanse momentarily erased your thoughts of your ex-boyfriend. Yet, as you stared at the misty mirror, your mind wandered, drawing back to the night of intimacy shared after winning the conference tournament. The details of that night during your freshman years played in your mind like a melody, lingering long after the water had evaporated.
Taylor knocked on the bathroom door when she heard your harsh breaths. Taylor had become a pillar of support in the aftermath of your breakup. When you became the overly confident freshman that everyone on the team chirped, she immediately took you under her wing, both on and off the ice, as you became linemates for the next two years of your friendship.
You were probably somewhere with Taylor when you weren’t with Matthew for the past two years. When she stayed in Minnesota after getting drafted, the two of you made sure to have nearby apartments. She mainly stayed at your and your teammate’s apartment for two weeks, ensuring you stayed alive through the breakup.
After discovering the breakup, your teammates blamed Matthew, something you didn’t want to happen. You and Matthew broke up because of separation. They still blamed him.
After Taylor pushed you into your bathroom to shower, you hadn’t expected it to be so refreshing. During the shower, you hadn’t thought of Matthew even once.
“Your purple sweater’s sitting in my room. I tried to wear it, but I knew that it would smell like you.”
“Let’s burn it,” your teammate Emily said. The purple sweater was a silent witness to your struggle. The garment, once a reminder for Matt of his Tri-City team, now held the scent of bittersweet nostalgia, a sure reminder of Matthew.
Everything else was given to Jimmy. You wanted to return the sweatshirt, but your teammate Emily wanted you to seek revenge. You stood up, grabbed it, and threw it back into your closet.
“I saw you dancing at the show tonight. I stood in the back, and I think that we both know why.”
Entering the lively party at the men’s hockey house, the air was charged with excitement and familiar faces. Jimmy’s gaze from across the room hinted at the hockey game on the T.V., bringing Toronto Maple Leaf’s shutout into focus. The T.V. was quickly turned off, probably by one of the boys you were closer to.
“We both know Kniesy wouldn’t want you being stuck up in the relationship,” Jimmy’s whispered advice floated to your ear, offering the perspective of a close friend of Matthew’s.
“But…” you started, “He’s Matt. He’s unforgettable.”
“I’m not saying you need to forget him,” Jimmy grabbed your wrist, bringing you to the kitchen, “But you still need to live your life.”
You stared at your feet, knowing he was probably right. As you turned to grab a drink, Jimmy typed on his phone, the phone lighting up his face. You could only guess who he was talking to. But as you approached and he quickly threw his phone back in his pocket, you knew exactly who.
You returned to the central part of the party, smiling with your friends. You hadn’t checked your phone, but you felt it vibrating.
You walked outside, under the moon's glow, and put your phone to your ear without checking the contact name, “Hello?”
“Hiiiii,” he slurred.
“Matthew,” you sat on the stairs, “Is something wrong? Are you with JT or Joe?”
“No… They’re inside,” you heard shuffling, “But there is a problem… You aren’t here.”
“Oh, Matt,” you breathed, “I’m not there because we broke up.”
“Did it hurt? When we broke up,” he sniffled, “Now I’m all alone; I guess I’ll never learn.”
“It wouldn’t work. I couldn’t date you when I worried you were interested in her. And I voiced my concern. And all you said was I shouldn’t be worried. No reassurance. And you have people; you have your teammates.”
The pause was deafening. You still heard Matt’s shuffling.
“And I lied, when I took you on a drive,” he admitted, “And I said I’d never speak to her. I wish I would have kept my word."
You sighed. You had already known he kept talking to who he claimed was a friend, but hearing him admit to lying about simply talking to her—even after you broke up—hurt so much more than you expected.
“I need to apologize to you in person. You know we never did anything, and you can ask JT, or Mints, or Joe. But I still regret lying,” Matthew slurred.
Amidst the haze of intoxication, confusion clouding your senses, you chuckled at his desperate plea, a symphony of emotions playing, “And how would you do that now that you’re gone?”
“I would fly you out here for a weekend when you don’t have practice.”
You laughed. He was obviously drunker than you, and it seemed he was going insane.
“I need you out here. So bad. Please just let me apologize to you in person."

NEW interview with Alexander Skarsgård and Sharp Magazine!
(photos from Corey Nickols/IMDb at Sundance and by George Pimental at the Canadian premiere of INFINITY POOL in January 2023)
Alexander Skarsgård Admits He’s ‘Quite Boring’
by Marriska Fernandes, February 22, 2023
Alexander Skarsgård is mostly a private person who prefers to use his craft as a platform to tame his wild, primal side — and he’s certainly one who opts to wear his Chuck Taylors to a snowy Toronto red carpet premiere of his latest film, Infinity Pool.
The Swedish actor has been digging his teeth into darker roles that are far removed from himself, and roles he finds thrilling. From the abusive husband in Big Little Lies that earned him an Emmy, to the testosterone-fuelled Viking in The Northman, Skarsgård likes tapping into the primal nature demanded of these roles. In Toronto filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg’s horror “Infinity Pool,” he certainly taps into a violent and visceral portrayal of an unsuccessful writer.
The film, which is now playing in theatres, follows James (Alexander Skarsgård) and Em (Cleopatra Coleman), who are on an all-inclusive resort in a fictional country. When Gabi (Mia Goth) and her friends take them outside the resort grounds, James accidentally runs over and kills a local. The punishment is either be executed, or if you can afford it, allow yourself to be cloned and watch the clone killed instead.
Skarsgård is not the classic industry nepo baby some imagine him to be (he’s the son of famed actor Stellan Skarsgård) — his insecurity runs deep; just like his onscreen character James, he too suffers from imposter syndrome. In fact, Skarsgård shared how he thought he was surely getting fired on Generation Kill, his first major role in the U.S. It was only until two months in that he calculated he was likely safe as it would have been too expensive for HBO to recast.
Skarsgård, 46, approaches his roles passionately, studying the ins and outs of his character as if they were his own. He thinks, plans and sleeps on it — structure, for him, is key, he says. So when it came to playing James and his many clones, the actor found himself mapping out the psychological journeys of each one – which he did for himself, really.
The jaw-dropping horror is one that will live rent-free in your mind as Skarsgård frightens, impresses and marvels in his haunting turn. We spoke with the actor about the film, his performance (he apologizes for the nightmares), his process, and his personal style.
I’ve been following your work having seen most of it, from Big LIttle Lies to True Blood to The Northman. So having the luxury to do any kind of role, what were you looking to do next as an artist when this one came your way?
I was sent the script when I was way deep in mud in the Irish soil, shooting The Northman. It was a very, very intense shoot; a tremendous experience and I loved it, but it was very physically and mentally exhausting. James (in this script) is so diametrically opposed to Amleth, my character in The Northman, who’s very much of a testosterone-filled berserker and James is definitely not that. So that was exciting and tonally, I was familiar with Brandon’s work; I had seen both Antiviral and Possessor and I thought they were terrific films and Andrea Riseborough is a dear friend of mine and so obviously, the star of Possessor had spoken so highly of Brandon, what it was like working with him and how he ironically, is the sweetest, most humble, lovely, gentleman which is strange, because the stuff that he comes up with is so dark and twisted. Maybe that’s his… I don’t know if it’s his therapy and he gets it out of his system by writing about it. I found him to be such an inspiring and singular and interesting filmmaker and it’s a gift as an actor to get to play a role like James because the journey he goes on; what he experiences is psychologically absolutely fascinating to me. So I was thrilled to jump on board.
You said that the sweet spot for you is when you’re intrigued by the character and you understand aspects of him, and he makes you curious to learn more. How did that apply to James and the different versions of his clones?
Because there’s so much to interpret, I’m still thinking about it (laughs). It’s such a rich character, and what a treat to get to play three, four versions of the same character and to play around with the juxtaposition between James the author and James the clone, and the different iterations of the clone and what happens to James after the first time he watches the execution of the clone, what happens after the second, third? How does that change him? What does it do to someone psychologically when you have to witness your own death in such a brutal way, where he can’t look away. It’s horrifying. But it’s also exhilarating in a weird way. I found that really interesting to play around with who is James? And also literally who is the character we’re watching? Because it could also be open to interpretation. Is this James or like Dr. Modan says in the movie, ‘Do you ever wonder whether you are the clone and they killed the real James?’ And that was fascinating to me and very interesting to play around with that notion when I was prepping the movie, and honestly shooting it I’d like to leave that open. This could be James but this could also be the clone.
And did you really map out the psychological journeys for all the clones?
I did for myself and then obviously tried to leave room for interpretation for the audience.
There seems to be a through-line with some of your roles because there’s always something primal whether it was the beast quality in The Northman or the wolf in Hold the Dark and now in this you’re wrestling with a naked version of yourself as a dog.
Yeah, I think I guess I’m quite drawn to the primal. The more people that revert back to something more atavistic and that friction that is being human in a modern day society, the friction between functioning in a civilized society. Right now, I’m in New York City, and I’m surrounded by millions and millions of people. But deep down, you also have the more atavistic equality and the more primal qualities and that animal within that we sometimes let out, most often try to suppress and that I find quite fascinating. I think that’s been the through-line in some of my films.
So when it comes to creating roles, you have often said that you like structure and you read the script once a day, every day until shooting. Was it any different with this one?
I do like structure, I compartmentalize so that helps me map out the character and the journey. I do find it very useful to read the script, go over it in prep once a day because it helps me trigger inspiration and discover new things. And even if it’s the 30th time I read the script I’ll notice something that I’ve not noticed before or makes me think about something in a different way. Most of those ideas, I just discard but occasionally you’ll find something that’s really fascinating and that might be even the foundation for the character and you start building off of that.
Did this structure help you process any scene in particular?
It helps me with everything; it helps me understand the character and map it out. The most obvious was the first transformation, the first execution. The first cloning is a pivotal moment because it is the first time James witnessed his own execution and so that was a very big moment and important to understand in deciding how James would react to it. James’ wife is looking away as she’s horrified by it but he is mesmerized by it, almost transfixed by it. And that was fascinating to me to try to kind of go in that direction and see what we discovered.
A few years ago in an interview you were asked what scares you and you said you have the tendency to scare yourself sometimes. So did that happen during the making of this horror when you’re in the process of trying to scare us?
(Laughs) I don’t know if I scared myself but it was definitely intense… (laughs) in a very primal way. I don’t know… working with Brandon was so wonderful and there was so much love and trust there and I really just genuinely believed in his vision for the film and for the role and that’s what it’s all about. Create that trust on a movie set and then you just let yourself go and I feel like most of the cerebral work is done in prep. That’s when you think about the character and you map it out and all this is interesting, but it’s very practical. And the goal is to once you show up on set, you can just hopefully that is somewhere in your systems you don’t overthink it, you don’t actually think about it at all, you can just throw yourself into the situation and where that takes you and on Infinity Pool, as you’ll see in the movie, it took us to some really weird, dark places.
So do you find it thrilling to deep dig into these darker roles that require you to tap into a different aspect of yourself as an artist?
Tremendously. I think I’m privately a very mellow human being. I’m quite content, probably quite boring and so it is thrilling to open up a channel that I never do in real life. It gives me an excuse to tap into that and explore that darkness or wild or more kind of eccentric or crazy or the more primal side of who I am.
James does tend to have this kind of imposter syndrome because when he’s trying to write. Have you ever felt that and when?
I quite often feel that. I’ve been working for quite a few years, but I still feel that. I definitely still struggle with insecurity or feeling that I’m not talented enough or that I’m miscast. The biggest one was probably on Generation Kill, which was my first major role in the U.S. and it was a project that I was incredibly excited about. It was an opportunity to work on it. It was an HBO miniseries about the invasion of Iraq, made by David Simon and Ed burns. They did The Wire show that I was a big, big fan of; It was such a terrific role and I was completely unknown. I hadn’t really worked. I’d done a couple of days on Zoolander, five, six years prior to this, but I definitely wasn’t… I felt that I couldn’t believe I was cast in this really great role in this really great HBO series. I had a very, very strong sense of imposter syndrome there. We were in Africa for seven months shooting it and I was so certain that they would recast and fire me that every day I would figure out how much time or how much money HBO had spent on shooting this and how expensive would it be for them to replace me? So it was like two, three months into production when I realized, well, if they fire me and recast the role, they have to reshoot 40% of the show when that would cost a lot of money. So maybe that won’t happen now. That’s when I first started feeling like I might actually get to finish this job. But up until that point, I was certain that we would get a phone call saying, ‘You were miscast; you’re out!.’
Oh wow. Thank you for sharing that and I think you were well cast in Generation Kill. Before we wrap, I do want to ask you about your red carpet look in Toronto. I love the casual sneakers and T-shirt look in the midst of the snowstorm. Is that your personal sense of style?
Yeah, that was. (laughs). That’s kind of what I wear. I almost missed the red carpet or the Toronto trip didn’t happen because I was flying out from New York and because of the blizzard in Toronto, I was delayed by three or four hours. So that’s why unfortunately, you have to do this over the phone. I was supposed to come in to Toronto and do press in the afternoon and then have to relax a bit and maybe put on some real boots instead of my Chuck Taylors. But instead, I was so delayed that I came straight from the airport to the red carpet.
Is that the classic Alex look?
Yeah. I’m on the road so much that I love to travel with just carry on, which means I have to really plan what to pack. So I can only bring one pair of shoes, maybe two pairs of trousers and one or two sweaters. That even goes for when I’m home. Like I don’t have much clothes. And I prefer to have items that I really love to wear and I don’t really feel the need to have 45 different pairs of sneakers on. If I love my sneakers and have one of them for two years and when I need a new pair, I’ll buy a new pair. But that’s all I really need and the same goes for all my clothes.
That’s very minimal and I love to hear that. Glad you made it out to Toronto!
I’m really glad. It was important for me to come out there because again, Brandon’s hometown and most of the crew and even some of our producers are from there. So it was on this tour that we’ve been doing Sundance, New York and we’re going to the Berlin Film Festival next month. It was really not only because I love Toronto, it’s always fun to be there. But again, to come home to Brandon’s hometown and have a night of celebration together was really really important to me, even though I almost missed it.
Thank you and congratulations again on the film!
Thank you and I appreciate it.
We’re sure to see more of Skarsgård, who is currently filming season four of the HBO familial drama Succession. He was introduced in season three as tech mogul Lukas Matsson and we’ll be seeing a lot more of him in the new season.
Infinity Pool is now playing in theatres.

A Degrassi Essay About Rick Murray
(Part 1)
"Rick, why did you come back here?"
I like seeing a shift in tone amongst Degrassi fans, specifically to the reaction of Rick Murray's eight episode arc spanning seasons 3 and 4 of DTNG. From what I've gathered, the overall fanbase has shifted from having sympathy for the character, which I can understand, to demanding to know why Rick didn't just pack up and go to another school after the incident he caused. In this essay series, I will cover popular fan discussions regarding the arc of Rick Murray, such as the inquiry upon his return, other characters' interactions and reactions towards him, and Principal Raditch's failure to act as his students expressed concerns about Rick.
Unfortunately, a lot went on after the coma incident and before Rick’s return off-screen, but it is some of the most important information that would answer a lot of questions. Did Mr. McGregor press charges against the Murrays? Was there a settlement? How extensive was Rick’s therapy, and for how long did he attend? Could they not prove that Rick was guilty of aggravated assault? Was there no physical evidence that could pin him to his crimes? Considering that Rick was able to continue his education, we can accurately guess the answers to a lot of these questions.
Most fans think tragedy could have been avoided if Rick had simply started over at a different school. I mean, it’s Toronto. Surely they aren't short on the number of schools in the city. I guess for Rick, it was either the devil he knew or the devil he didn't know. There are a few who do think it was better (at least before tragedy struck) for him to reset at Degrassi, though more for the sake of the students' safety rather than for Rick’s comfort. If Rick went to another school, it would benefit him greatly. No one would know about the abuse he inflicted on Terri, that is, assuming no one in this other school is affiliated with Terri. The only way anyone could receive any kind of information about Rick's history would be to ask the kid himself. Even after this inquiry, Rick would still have the ability to downplay his abuse or flat out deny that it even happened since his peers would have no proof that he did anything wrong, so there would be nothing anyone could do about it. Diving deeper into this hypothetical scenario, Rick, attending this non-Degrassi school, would have the opportunity to slip back into old habits since no one would hold him accountable or punish him for what he did to Terri. He would be more of a danger to women, assuming he would begin dating again at this other school, which is extremely likely. His problems aside--and they would be set aside in this scenario--Rick is portrayed as the shy, charming, yet eccentric, hopeless romantic. He would easily attract women, especially if they're unaware of how he treated his ex. At another school, Rick's abuse problem wouldn't go away: some other poor girl would simply fall victim to him.
Alas Rick made the decision to return to Degrassi. In his mind, he's hoping for his pupils to forgive and embrace him. Whether he is determined or delusional, it does take some strength of character to go back to a place where potentially an entire class of students will detest you. Rick chose redemption over comfort, the path of most resistance. Whether or not someone would return to a school under these circumstances is up for debate. Would you really want to go back to a community where you nearly killed a well-known and well liked person, or would you be eager to get as far away from it as possible? Nonetheless, Rick's presence at Degrassi makes for good drama, and that's what this franchise is all about.
I believe that Rick realized he could have failed in his quest for forgiveness, and that if he did, he could at least avoid Marco, Paige, Spinner, and Jimmy, and instead center his social life around his new peers: the class of '07. Repeating a year has its benefits: if Paige and pals rejected his apology, he could at least make nice with the grade ten students, right?
That's where Emma comes in and throws a wrench in things...

Since your first game came out 10 years ago when the scope of LGBT media for youth was much worse, what do you think has changed between now and then and what sets Longstory 2 apart from new media which has come out since?
CW: Discussions of homophobia/transphobia in media, mention of conversion therapy law, tropes
This a great question, let's take a look. To put this in a wider context on LGBT rights in general...
Picture it: Sicily... I mean... Toronto, 2014!
While global human rights don't revolve around Canada, (ed note: Although historically Canada has led the way in developing policy based around enshrining human right into law) that's where we're based. Canada was only 10 years out from same-sex marriage being recognized across the country--the States, in comparison, only received the court ruling that would make it legal in June 2015. Sadly, Canada wouldn't make a conversion therapy illegal under the law for another seven years. It'd be another 2 years for "gender identity and expression" to be added as protected under the Canadian Human Rights Act, not like that explicitly protects trans folks, but it's something. So that's an overview of where we were at on the ground, at least.
In the world of games, things were..... Not like that. A couple of big inspirations for LongStory were Life is Strange, which was released throughout 2015, and The Last of Us, especially the "Left Behind" DLC, which was released in 2014. Keep in mind that all of these inspirations, however beautifully written, were penned by straight guys--and that both games either do or can kill off at least one of their queer characters, see: bury your gays trope.
That was the name of the game (in games) at the time: Players occasionally could enjoy decently written LGBT characters, but they were often killed off, for punishment or pathos.
Maybe that heady mix of a country that was rabidly expanding it's understanding of what human conditions and experiences were protected rights, juxtaposed against a games industry that was (and remains) reluctant to expand the definition of who plays games and can be represented in games is what led us to care so deeply about LongStory. The fact is at the time of it's creation many of us were experiencing the joy of seeing our own lives changed by shifting tides of acceptance in families, at school and at work.
Since then, there's been a massive shift in media across the board, including games, turning toward "own voices" stories; creators can tell stories outside their own experiences, but if they do it should be well researched and hopefully include a (properly paid and credited) cultural consultant and/or sensitivity readers. Or admit when you got it wrong, at the very least.
LongStory came onto the scene as we began to see this shift. That and we responded to our players' needs. The game was originally supposed to be about a girl, the original feminine-presenting avatar, but when early players asked if they could be a boy, it was an obvious decision to make a masculine-presenting avatar an option. One of our claims to fame is that we were one of the earlier adopters of pronoun selection as well, including gender neutral pronouns, which also isn't attached to gender presentation (ie. feminine presentation = she/her, masculine = he/him). Now a lot of games (but certainly not all) have gotten better at different iterations of gender presentation instead of just a binary of GIRL/BOY.
The upside to this shift is that now young people are kind of "spoiled for choice", which is a very good thing. Games, movies, TV, books, comics, in media of all kinds for all ages it's often odd when there's not a queer or gender diverse character. Funny how diverse real life is, huh? Our media should reflect that.
We're finally seeing the cracks in the monolithic presumed straight, white, cisgender man audience. It is our genuine hope that the success of LongStory, which honestly comes down to folks continuing to care about the game and ask us these great questions, has had an impact on the growth of the industry and it's increasing inclusion and representation, however imperfect that may sometimes be.
Speaking of imperfection. I was just having a conversation yesterday about the toxic individualist (and, I think, deeply capitalist) idea that when someone else receives, I lose. Now when bigots, fascists and creepy evangelicals see diversity in the media, be it LGBTQ and/or BIPOC representation and/or disabled or non-neurotypical representation it gets labeled as "woke", which is bad because: ?????? I think that comes from a place of believing that when one person wins somebody else has to be losing out. That's not how life works--but it is how capitalism works! Capitalism has made us all so afraid that there is not enough to around, not enough love, or stories, or hero narratives. When the opposite is true, people have an abundance of love and creativity to share, but again, capitalism is sort of based on this idea of scarcity... yeah, it's how to keep people isolated.
All this to say, there is a new generation of people, afraid of the beautiful exuberance and diversity of life wriggling their way into positions of power, or lobbying and manipulating the systems and people in them to get anti-trans laws on the books, or look for ways to roll back protections on hard fought basic human rights it's taken generations of LGBTQ folks to achieve. More often than not it's just a shameless power grab scapegoating historically marginalized communities. Lots of that. So we're still here, still working on our games, still saying the same things with renewed enthusiasm.
LongStory starts from a place of empathy, which is something that's unfortunately needed now more than ever. We want everyone, but especially young people, to look at a world as it should be, which is diverse and open to exploration, where they can make mistakes but still be surrounded by love and compassion. I think that's what sets LongStory apart from a lot of media and makes it really special.

Alright, happy Thursday hoes, lets get to this.
Mothership first
Okay… interesting open…
Omg…how many times are they gonna use the trope of “don’t touch that!” “who the hell are you?” surprise it’s the new laywer…
Not surprised its another old white dude, but at least he’s not as old as mccoy
Okay seriously…. If they get rid of Samantha I will not be watching this show anymore..
I wonder if they’re going to bring this staff change up on svu too considering this guy is also now carisi’s boss… but the writers seem to have forgotten that these shows all exist together until they want to do a crossover.
If this was svu the ada would be storming into the squad room yelling at the detectives for making a mistake that’s gonna cost them their case. Why don’t we get to see that on mothership? I want more crossing over between departments, cops never show up in the gallery either, just to testify if they’re needed.
Oooo yesss that maroon suit. I see you ma’am!
Man they’re just right fucked with this case aren’t they?
This defence attorney is super crusty
How come these videos are coming up NOW and not before things went to trial??
This judges office is barba’s office. They really only have so many sets, hey? (also the continuity of that office on this show/universe drives me fucking insane).
My subtitles keep cutting in and out and that is also driving me insane
Toronto time.
Will I pay attention? Likely no
JESUS FUCK talk about a cold fucking opening wow.
Big surprise I stopped paying attention halfway through the ep. Like, it’s fully muted right now and I’m working on writing LOL
SVU time
BRUH is this maria stuff ive been seeing all over twitter legit?! I thought people were fucking clowning LOL
Olivia in uniform just fucking makes me so fucking weak every single time
Clearly the other captain hasn’t been in the field a lot if that was her immediate reaction to that crime scene
Okay… hear me out… olivia literally saved maria’s life and stayed on the phone with her ALL night. We all know she has a habit of taking in strays… there’s no doubt maria became a cop because of liv… maria would have reached out TO HER about her graduation, not the other way around…
Velasco getting actual screen time finally. I do have to say, im back on my Velasco bullshit…
LOL. I know it was unintentional but the harshness of velasco’s knock on the door killed me.
4 hours of law and order is too much. Im getting bored and this is the show I actually like. I think imma start skipping Toronto cause mothership does hit some days
If this girl has a good enough lawyer she could easily get off on an insanity type plea… tbh this episode would’ve been way better on criminal minds. That would’ve been bad ass.
This episode is almost over and we got absolutely NO closure on the maria thing AND we didn’t get to go to court. Im OVER this fucking show man lol
Liv being back in her bac nail polish era is bomb though
Fin doesn’t strike me as a scotch guy… this is weird..
Okay… liv is really not okay. Like this girl needs support, she needs proper and regular therapy, she needs a break from work. Go home and spend time with your son instead of drinking cheap wine alone in a bar? Also while we’re talking about drinking alone after work being all sad, can we touch on the fact that her mother was an alcoholic, and that was what *killed* her… this is incredibly worrisome and I doubt we’re ever going to touch on it/get it fleshed out like we should…
Okay we at least got some maria closure. Thank you.
OC time!
Jet *attempting* to control stabler, woof. At least someone’s trying loooll
This bitch is so dead
Part of me feels like its bullshit that se wouldn’t know any of this about her own brother, but also I never talk to my family so…. LOL.
Fuck he’s creepy as shit
There is NO WAY THAT TINY MAN IS THE SAME SIZE AS ELLIOT
The fact that it took THIS long for someone higher up to question his anger/trauma/etc affecting his job is wild.
THE BARTENDER IN ME IS FUCKING DYING. I had a PHYSICAL reaction to that conversation.
“you’ve never had a long island ice tea?!” “I don’t like ice tea it’s too bleh” guy promptly orders two to prove that theyre good? THERE IS NO ICED TEA IN LONG ISLANDS
Cragen’s really just gonna be in the last second of this episode isn’t he?
Everyone: proper ear pieces
Jet: nah. Air pod.
I really thought that stabler was gonna be missing for a like, a good chunk of time with no one knowing.
OHHHH right! The foil he found in the bathroom garbage and immediately licked… right… I forgot about that. Now the question is who it belongs to…..

How I Manifested 97 Free Pizzas
How a unique and powerful discovery about the subconscious is magnifying people’s ability to manifest.
I know a lot about manifesting.
I’m not saying that to brag.
I’m known for a breakthrough, life-changing discovery about the subconscious mind that makes manifesting easier than the typical methods.
It’s actually several discoveries.
And I’ve taught these discoveries to others.
And they’ve manifested things that make “old school” manifesters jealous.
And sometimes scared.
Not because those others are doing anything weird or funny.
It’s because the results have been so crazy coincidental, and my students have a different type of reference point.
That manifesting “better & better, bigger & bigger” is normal.
But it wasn’t always this way…
My Seven Year Breakdown From Hell
I was just looking to heal from a seven-year-long breakdown from hell.
I had always been into the subconscious mind, so I jumped into alternative and holistic methods right off the bat, especially when traditional therapy looked like it would take me seven years just to feel normal again!
It’s not the therapists’ fault — through no fault of their own, they have no cutting-edge tools & methods to do their work with. If you follow my work, you’ll know why.
I followed the path of the leading edge energy therapies and developed enough expertise in some of them to teach others, which I was doing on a regular basis.
Some of these included:
The Release Technique/Sedona Method EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) TAT (Tapas Accupressure Technique) BSFF (Be Set Free Fast) ZPoint (The zPoint Process)
It reads like a long list of acronyms, but I didn’t know that each was only one slice of the pie, not the whole pie, so to speak.
Some of them worked on some subjects but not at all on others.
When Life Deals You Lemons…Make Orange Juice
I have a keen intuition, so it wasn’t surprising to the others who were my clients when I would recommend one of those techniques.
“I want to try something on you…” led me to notice where these other methods more consistently worked (and where they consistently failed).
But they were all hitting on something important, yet it seemed like they were all missing something important, too.
It’s like those other modalities were not able to completely hit the target…when the recipe called for orange juice, they were like lemon juice.
Finding the Secret Sauce
I decided to create my own methodology after noticing what was missing from each of those others.
“Wow, that works wonders,” remarked my clients.
I know.
It worked wonders on me first.
Symptoms from my breakdown were finally leaving, and those other methodologies were being retired from my further use.
“Inner Influencing” was the name I had given to my unique and powerful methodology.
I started to become the person who was known for a methodology that “went further” when people found “all of the other things they knew” didn’t work to get them to where they wanted to go in their experience.
I was happy and proud.
From Happy to Homeless
Then, seemingly out of the blue, I was homeless, “sleeping” in a Tropical Storm.
In a dog park.
It was the opposite of fun.
It was the opposite of most good things.
Until that time, I was only using my methodology — Inner Influencing — on myself and others, on “inner” types of topics.
Inner peace. Inner balance. Inner health.
Stuff like that.
How Many Free Pizzas Does It Take To Make Future Millionaires Turn And Run?
I had done a workshop in Toronto for a group of people who were into holistic and alternative methodologies.
I was trying to explain to them that any aspirations for big “synchronicities” are impossible to “manifest” if they subconsciously fear having the object of their desire.
I asked them, “How many of you are trying to manifest a million dollars to become a millionaire?”
Every one of them raised their hands.
“Before you do another affirmation, creative visualization, or vision board,” I told them, “you need to test if you have subconscious fears that would sabotage your efforts.”
Fictional Free Pizza Ends The “Pizza”z
To show them this, I created a fictional scenario that had them imagine that they called once a week for a pizza.
But before they could finish dialing, the pizza was already at the door.
And it was free.
I made it a point to have them compare how comfortable they were if they called and paid for it versus having it just show up as they were dialing the phone and given to them for free.
It grew increasingly uncomfortable the more often they thought of the free pizza happening.
Run, Future Millionaire, Run.
It was an incredible surprise to them that no one could seem to get past five or six free pizzas before they would not even answer the door, or at least not eat it.
It was no surprise to me, however, as I’d seen this principle in play many times, both with myself and my clients.
It was time for some tough love.
“So you mean to tell me that you all want to be millionaires, trying every cutting-edge esoteric technique you can get your hands on to become a millionaire, but you can’t even accept about $100 worth of free pizza.”
Not only did they get it, they were embarrassed about it, once they saw what was happening.
“What if,” I asked them, “you focused on getting rid of that underlying fear…”
It was a hypothetical question.
Putting It To The Test
I wasn’t it all being hypothetical, though, when I started to ask myself, with the sideways rain hitting me in the face, if I was willing to see how far my methodology could go.
I was already homeless.
I was already foodless.
And I had the most powerful discovery about the subconscious mind on a virtual leash.
It was time to make a decision.
Because if there was ever a do-or-die decision, it was now.
I either unleash this power, all the way, or I die here.
I remember thinking, “This is unwinnable,” then I started to remember how other people also had immense healing from their worst scenarios.
It was at that time that I thought if I made it out alive, I would change the saying, “whatever doesn’t kill me makes me stronger” to “whatever doesn’t kill me…should have.”
I want to clarify that I wasn’t directing this at a person.
Even though I had learned very well that the truth of having a “relationship” with a narcissist can wreck your life.
And I apparently didn’t learn it well enough, so I was sent more than one to drill that lesson home.
It still wasn’t about people, though.
It was more about noticing there was some kind of universal force that seemed responsible for our deeper negative experiences.
Positivity, Move Aside!
Most people who I knew that were “into” holistic and esoteric topics, though, were all trying to figure out how to get more positive experiences in their lives.
As the sideways rain was hitting my face, I had a different idea.
“What if I find out what makes negative experiences happen?”
So, I made it my goal…
Find this “force” that put me in this situation and unleash everything I know on it.
Since it didn’t really occur to me how it could get worse.
And keep doing that until I die, or it does.
And so, that’s what I did.
Singing In The Rain
And weirdly, the tropical storm started to feel like I simply got caught in the rain.
Because I started to do the exact steps that I would have shown my Toronto group what to do if I had more time with them.
It Became A Mission
I found a couch that someone let me borrow to spend the rest of that week.
And I promptly went to work on everything I could find inside myself that was related to how bad things got, using my powerful and unique methodology that already showed immense promise.
I worked on all the fears of having an endless supply of food that shows up without me having to do anything.
I worked every angle of being “foodless, forever,” too.
I also didn’t want any more fear of that.
Want Some Pizza?
Not too long after eliminating every fear I could find, using my methodology, on everything to do with food, I heard someone calling towards me.
“Hey, Paul, we have some extra pizza. Do you want some?”
It was so hard not to smile that I had to turn my head when one of the people in the neighborhood of the couch I was borrowing ordered too much pizza and noticed that I was outside going for a walk.
A few days later…
Another walk.
“Hey Paul, I have a coupon here for buy one pizza get another one free. What kind of pizza do you like?”
Again, I had to turn my head because I didn’t want to explain what my smile was all about.
A few more free pizzas later, not too long after, started to get me thinking if I ran the gamut on everything related to being homeless.
Would I suddenly freak out if a home appeared out of nowhere?
Target In Sight…
I noticed some pangs of fear, so I used that subject as my next one to eradicate.
Fear of homelessness, fear of synchronicity delivering a home, stuff like that.
All I cared about was putting my methodology to the test and trying to eradicate both the fears and whatever caused this extremely ungodly negative situation.
“Hey, Paul,” someone yelled while jogging toward me.
I thought, “Wow, this would be free pizza #6…”
Not exactly.
One of the older people in the neighborhood had fallen and broken their hip.
“They could be out for a few months. There’s no one to watch their dog. Do you think you could stay at their house so that they know their dog is safe?”
I said sure.
“And oh, they said you could eat everything in the house if you wanted to.”
Ninety days later, I was up to 20 free pizzas.
I had the house to myself, but even though the man asked me to stay once he was able to move around enough on his own, I let the man have it back.
I didn’t want to interfere.
How Many Free Pizzas DOES It Take?
I was still counting the free pizzas.
24.
25.
26.
I used to help an old lady out in that same neighborhood by walking her dog.
I was still borrowing a couch, so if I had any excuse to leave the too-crowded place for a walk, I would.
On one walks, I noticed an ambulance in front of the older woman’s house, so I ran to see what was wrong.
She fell, trying to pick up her dog.
Broke her hip.
“I need someone to stay with my dog. Paul, will you do it? Eat all the food that you like.”
Wow.
I stumbled on something pretty powerful.
Yes, Keanu Reeves. Whoa.
And so I had not just one, but two homes, full of food, given me to use.
I then started to take this approach with my clients.
It was no longer was about just recovering from past difficulties.
It was about kicking ass.
All the way, Super Bowl-winning, kicking ass.
But inside, I was still pissed.
Again, not at people.
But the “why” or “how” things could get so bad for someone that they would want to quit life.
I started to take this kind of thing personally.
People couldn’t achieve their goals, have peace, or live their best lives.
Whatever didn’t kill me…should have.
Let’s See How Far This Goes With Others
I started to have the same attitude in terms of my clients, and we were going after things on the upside that seemed unreachable.
And we weren’t going just to play.
We were going to win.
One of my clients had a cottage that she couldn’t sell.
She had an unruly tenant named Nikki.
Nikki stopped paying her rent, and my client feared that starting the eviction process would leave her cottage a wreck and unsellable.
I did the same process with her, and not only did Nikki ASK to leave, but my client had someone practically walk up to her and offer her more than the asking price.
It wasn’t legal papers to evict that were on my client’s desk anymore.
It was a half million dollars.
If that wasn’t enough, the buyer was a woman named Nikki.
And It Wasn’t An Accident
I helped another client through a situation with a property they couldn’t sell, and he ended up with over $300k on a market high.
This same person acquired C-PTSD from being in a 20-year marriage to a full-bore narcissist.
Not only did he heal from that (after nothing else got him so far), he found the perfect woman to marry, the opposite of the one he divorced.
And I’m up to free pizza 97.
Is This The End? Or Just The Beginning?
I leave you with a question, then.
How far will you go once you learn this methodology?
Your best life is waiting, so why not go all the way?
I have created a special “Discovery Kit” to help you start learning this new methodology for free.
I want to know how far you go with it.
Please make sure to let me know.
I will celebrate with you.
And so you know…
I’m so sick of pizza that you have no idea.
Pizza Hut ham and pineapple can be pretty tempting, though.

ok first i have to come in by saying tnno is one of the best things i've ever read. anyways this is a super super indulgent request so feel free to ignore but would you happen to have anything else in your wonder twins activate doc that you wouldn't mind sharing 👀
hi anon, sorry for taking a few weeks to get to this! i don't have a lot more shareable content in the wonder twins gdoc, but could i interest you in some wonder twins backstory? and i'll put a little snippet from a scene after that ❤
kev is a middle child (older brother, younger sister, all pretty close in age); he is from small-town alberta and played his junior hockey in saskatoon. he was drafted high in the second round. of the pair, he is both the more fastidious and the more chaotic one. he has a tendency to care more about other people than about himself.
tanner is from the ottawa suburbs and he played his junior hockey with the 67s. he has one older sister who is several years older than him; she also lives in toronto now, for work, so they get to hang out sometimes, which is nice. he was a fifth-round draft pick who had a big breakout season in his draft+1 year. of the pair, he's messier but a better cook, and quieter and more introspective in comparison. he's slow to anger but if provoked (say, if someone takes a headshot at his bestie) can occasionally go apeshit.
they met when they were on the canadian world juniors team together (tanner did not attend the draft) and just clicked immediately. their world juniors team does not correlate to a real world juniors team because i'm too lazy for that, but they won silver in a heartbreaker, and promised each other they'd both be on the leafs the following season so they could play together again. kev had been having kind of a slump of a season but was :) somehow inspired :) to step it up and had a great run in the second half. both their teams went to the memorial cup, where neither won the tournament but tanner's team beat kev's, so he has bragging rights, but he doesn't use them too often.
-------------
“You’re still up,” Kev says, sounding surprised even though he’s the one who called. “It’s like three in the morning there.”
“Yeah, the guys are all passed out, but I couldn’t sleep.” Feeling his way through the dark cabin, Tanner finds the den, then follows the wall until he hits the side of the sofa. He flops onto it, letting his feet dangle over the arm. “I’ve been really restless lately. Thinking about the season starting and stuff.”
“You’re restless?” Kevin laughs. “At least you got rookie camp! I’ve been wasting away alone in bumfuck nowhere Alberta since May.”
This is not strictly true. In June, Kev went on vacation in Miami with some buddies from junior, and he’s regularly made the 90-minute drive to Edmonton to see a PT specialist there. He’s been on several trips to Banff to go hiking and get drunk on Lake Minnewanka. Also, Kevin loves bumfuck nowhere Alberta. He owns more Carhartt than anyone else Tanner knows.
“Okay but, speaking of, how is the shoulder?” asks Tanner.
“So much better,” Kevin says, and launches into an explanation of the training and therapy he’s been doing. He’s very upbeat about it all, detailing everything his doctors have said, his timelines and prognoses, and some excruciating specifics about the ligaments in his shoulder. They thought at first he might need surgery, but he decided to try rehabilitation; Tanner fielded a lot of early-summer facetime calls to talk through his concerns that it wouldn’t work and the team would be pissed he wasn't ready for the season. But he’s feeling good — he’s started doing some light stickwork, and he’s confident he’ll be ready to go come training camp.
“You better be,” Tanner says. “Rookie camp sucked without you.”
“I don’t know why you even had to go. Everyone knows you’ve got a roster spot already. Well, I guess it’s good for the kids to have a grizzled vet around to teach them how to be.” Kevin sounds so genuinely thoughtful as he works through this that it makes Tanner grin up at the ceiling.
“Most of those guys are older than me, idiot,” he says. “Except like, the brand new ones. And I do have to earn my spot, you know.”
“No, you don’t. Your spot’s on my line.”
“Oh, you’ve already decided that?”
“Yes,” Kev says. “I’ve had a lot of downtime this summer. I decided on the whole roster.”
“You know McDavid’s not coming out of retirement to center you, right?”
Kevin huffs. “Obviously not. Stromer is centering us.”
Tanner is struck by the urge to ask if Kevin has seen the picture Dylan posted from France. Except Tanner was just looking at the comment he left on it, so it’s a stupid question. He shoves it aside and says, “Sounds good so far. Tell me the rest.”
#ask#my fic#tnno#another fun fact about them is that i did not plan for them to have a major role in the fic at first#they just bullied their way in 😂

London #13: The Leeds Philosopher
If there is one thing I am trying to do, it is to expand my horizons and go out with men I would not typically date here in London. Especially when my roster is very empty.
Since I was barely speaking to anyone and feeling a bit loose with my dating requirements, I swiped right on a guy I wouldn't normally give a chance.
I came across a dirty blonde-haired 29-year-old British guy. He had artistic tattoos all over his forearms and wore a bold, colourful graphic tee. He wrote in his bio that the green flags he looked for in a woman included thinking therapy was cool and reading on the tube. He was a software engineer and it appeared he had a Masters in philosophy.
We briefly chitchatted before scheduling a date. He asked me out for coffee.
Normally, this would be a turn-off but considering that I haven't had a date in a month since I last went out with Petite Loki, I thought why the hell not. At this point, I started to no longer care as much about coffee dates as I did in Toronto because if the guy was super interested, he'd try after the initial meeting.
We decided to meet at a nice cafe called Page Common Coffee House. I waited outside of the cafe because I arrived earlier.
When he approached me, it took me less than 10 seconds to know that we were not a match once I saw his nails were painted black.
He got me an iced matcha latte and he had iced coffee for himself. We sat down and had a friendly conversation.
He was from Leeds and came to London six weeks ago to study philosophy. He told me that he was a software engineer for seven years but one day realized he didn't want to keep helping the rich stay rich. He wanted a life purpose.
He used to smoke weed daily, constantly being high. One day at 25 years old, he had to stop because it was affecting his mental health. He read a philosophy book about how the author dreamt he turned into a cockroach. After reading it, the Leeds Philosopher wanted to dedicate his life to helping people through their mental issues with philosophy as it did for him. He was passionate about exploring the world and hoped to be a philosophy professor one day.
"In my first year of teaching, I'd be making £30-40K, which is pretty good!"
I internally cringed when I heard about his salary. Good is far from what I would consider a salary of £30-40K. He said since it was so expensive to live in London, he worked 20 hours a week as a software engineer to keep afloat while in school.
Now he was a cool guy and I admired his passion for helping others and philosophy. However, his lifestyle was a no-go for me. I valued someone with high financial stability who doesn't mind material things like a nice home or having plenty of money to enjoy life with. However, it was clear he did not value making loads of money like I did.
Our conversation stayed pleasant throughout but there was absolutely no romantic spark. After all, I was never drawn to alternative guys who wanted to go off the beaten path. He probably also saw that I was not a fit as I expressed my enthusiasm for working in the corporate world.
After a couple of hours, he had to go see his friend. We hugged each other goodbye and said it was nice meeting each other. I contemplated perhaps staying friends with him, but luckily he never texted me after. The feeling was mutual.
What did I learn? Trying to date outside of my preferences seems fruitless.
Time and time again I was proven that I should stick to what I know works for me. There is a reason why I am drawn to ambitious, corporate men. Or men who have very stable careers. You know, the ones that an Asian mom would approve of.

Navigating Anxiety: The Benefits of an Anti-Anxiety Plan in Toronto
Anxiety is a common mental health issue that affects millions of people worldwide. In bustling urban centers like Toronto, the fast-paced lifestyle can often exacerbate feelings of anxiety and stress. Fortunately, developing an effective anti-anxiety plan can significantly improve your overall well-being. This article explores the components of an anti-anxiety plan in Toronto, its benefits, and how to get started on your journey toward a more peaceful life.
Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety is a natural response to stress, characterized by feelings of worry, fear, or unease. While it is normal to experience anxiety in challenging situations, chronic anxiety can interfere with daily activities and lead to physical and emotional distress. Symptoms may include restlessness, fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and sleep disturbances.
Creating an anti-anxiety plan tailored to individual needs can help manage these symptoms effectively. A well-structured plan often combines various strategies, including lifestyle changes, therapy, and support networks, all aimed at reducing anxiety levels and promoting mental wellness.
Components of an Anti-Anxiety Plan
1. Professional Support
Seeking help from a mental health professional is one of the most crucial steps in developing an anti-anxiety plan. In Toronto, numerous therapists, psychologists, and counselors specialize in anxiety management. They can offer personalized assessments, coping strategies, and therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which have been proven effective in treating anxiety disorders.
2. Mindfulness and Meditation
Mindfulness practices, such as meditation and deep breathing exercises, are powerful tools for managing anxiety. They promote relaxation and encourage a greater awareness of the present moment, helping individuals detach from negative thought patterns. Integrating mindfulness into your daily routine can be as simple as dedicating a few minutes each day to focus on your breath or engage in guided meditation sessions.
Many wellness centers in Toronto offer classes and workshops in mindfulness and meditation, providing additional resources to develop these essential skills.
3. Physical Activity
Regular physical activity is not only beneficial for physical health but also plays a vital role in reducing anxiety. Exercise releases endorphins, the body's natural mood elevators, which can help alleviate feelings of anxiety and depression. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Whether it's going for a brisk walk in one of Toronto's beautiful parks, joining a local gym, or participating in group fitness classes, finding an activity you enjoy can significantly enhance your anti-anxiety plan.
4. Healthy Eating Habits
Nutrition plays a crucial role in mental health. A balanced diet rich in whole foods, such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains, can positively impact mood and anxiety levels. Additionally, certain nutrients—such as omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, and B vitamins—have been linked to reduced anxiety symptoms. Consulting with a nutritionist can help create a personalized meal plan that supports your mental well-being. Learn more about this.
5. Social Support
Building a strong support network is essential for managing anxiety. Connecting with friends, family, or support groups can provide a safe space to share experiences and feelings. In Toronto, various community organizations and online platforms offer support groups for individuals dealing with anxiety, fostering a sense of belonging and understanding.
6. Establishing a Routine
Creating a daily routine can bring structure and stability to your life, which is particularly beneficial for those struggling with anxiety. Include time for self-care, exercise, work, and leisure activities in your routine. Setting realistic goals and breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps can help alleviate feelings of overwhelm.
Getting Started on Your Anti-Anxiety Plan
To begin your anti-anxiety journey in Toronto, consider the following steps:
1. Assess Your Needs: Reflect on your anxiety symptoms and identify areas of your life that may benefit from change or support.
2. Consult a Professional: Seek help from a mental health professional who can guide you in creating a tailored anti-anxiety plan.
3. Incorporate Mindfulness: Start practicing mindfulness techniques, such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.
4. Engage in Physical Activity: Find a form of exercise that you enjoy and make it a regular part of your routine.
5. Focus on Nutrition: Evaluate your eating habits and consider incorporating more whole foods into your diet.
6. Build Your Support Network: Reach out to friends and family or explore local support groups in Toronto.
7. Establish a Routine: Create a structured daily schedule that incorporates self-care and leisure activities.

Experts at NAD Nutrition explain how an anti-anxiety plan can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals dealing with anxiety in Toronto. By combining professional support, mindfulness practices, physical activity, healthy eating, social connections, and routine establishment, you can effectively manage anxiety symptoms and foster a sense of peace and well-being.
