#fun fact shinobi canonly can be hired as babysitter #now the question is who the fuck brave enough to hire them #if their caretaking method is like this #also to be fair Kakashi learned from 'the best' #Minato : what's a best present for my pre-teen student? A KNIFE #it also fuctioned as safety alarm but Minato didn't inform Kakashi that #till he got more metal present #so understandably knife looks like milder choice as giveaway to pre-teen
Based on this post
#lmao 😂😂😂😂😂#I literally forgot that Minato did indeed give kid Kakashi a knife or ''special Kunai'' as he calls it lol#yep so Kushina can't blame Kakashi#he learned it from Naruto's dad himself lol#also you're totally right about the babysitter part#no one in their right mind should ever hire a Shinobi to do that job#imagine the drama tho 😂😂#team 7 shenanigans#team 7 fanart

Happy birthday!! Can we please get a continuation of Sacrifice is Free, or anything Untamed or Naruto? Thank youuuu
a continuation of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Obviously keeping Lee from being squashed like a bug is a higher priority than her secrets, but right now she’s really cursing Gaara for putting her in this position. Specifically, in her father’s office with her parents and the three saanin. It really feels like Orochimaru shouldn’t be here, at least, but he followed Jiraiya and no one had stopped him.
“It’s not a big deal,” she says, arms crossed. “I’ve seen you do it a million times.”
“It’s an intense burden on your chakra coils,” her father says, frowning.
She stares, biting back the retort she can feel on the tip of her tongue.
“I think she knows,” Orochimaru says dryly. “Seeing as she’s done it.”
“You be quiet,” Minato orders. Orochimaru rolls his eyes.
Kushina grabs onto her arm, tugging on it in a way that makes her want to pull it out of her grip and escape out the window, but she knows better. Her father knows she can do the Flash now, but obviously he can to. She’s pretty sure she can’t outrun him. “Honey, why did you – you can’t, it’s dangerous, you really shouldn’t strain yourself like this-”
“It’s fine,” she says. “Mom, relax. It’s not like I do it all the time.”
Where people can see her, anyway.
“You could be hurting yourself,” she insists. “Tsunade, come here, take a look at her.”
Naruto takes a step back, but her mother doesn’t let go of her arm. “No thanks. I’m fine. I didn’t even get hurt in my preliminary match.”
A ninja from Grass that she almost felt bad for. It was more effort to not make it look so easy than it was to defeat him.
“Pull up your shirt, Naruto,” her father says. “We should take a look at your seal. Just in case.”
Her blood goes cold. Before she can think up an excuse, Kushina is yanking up the hem her orange long sleeve to just below her chest. “Mom!”
“Is it bothering you? Are you feeling okay?” she asks, not even looking at her, instead staring at her stomach. She almost asks if her mother is asking the Kyuubi or her, but that would be a bad idea for several reasons.
She feels bad about this, but she pulls away from her mother, prying her hand off of her arm. “The seal is fine.”
“Here, this will only take a moment,” Jiraiya says, hand outstretched.
She’s debating using the Flash to get away, even though she knows that will just make everything worse in the long term, when Orochimaru flash steps to directly in front of her, blocking them all from getting to her, and presses his cool hand against her abdomen. She feels chakra moving against her skin and she’s about to shove a kunai in either his hand or his skull when he steps back and says, “The seal is fine. You’re all over reacting. Can we move on now?”
Naruto can hear her pulse pounding in her hears, fear and confusion swirling inside of her.
“Orochimaru!” Minato snaps.
Jiraiya puts an arm on her father’s shoulder. “I’ll just take a look-”
“As if you know more than I do,” Orochimaru scoffs.
Jiraiya’s mouth drops open. “I’m a seal master!”
Orochimaru raises an eyebrow. “Everyone in this room is a seal master. You’re not special.”
Naruto doesn’t move a muscle. He’s obviously not talking about her. Right?
“You can’t just put your hands on my daughter!” Kushina shouts, as if that’s not exactly what she’d been asking Jiraiya and Tsunade to do.
It quickly devolves into an all out shouting match between them. Naruto edges towards the window then slips down, quickly darting between buildings. Anyone looking for her will expect her to take the roofs.
Orochimaru couldn’t have created that distraction for her on purpose, could he? Why would he? He doesn’t even know her. Maybe he’s not as a good a seal master as he thinks he is and he really hadn’t noticed anything off about her seal.
Everyone always looks for her at the Uchiha compound first, and recently the second place they look is the Harunos. Any of her friends are too obvious and she doesn’t really feel like giving some ANBU the slip right now.
She heads to the apartments near the academy and knocks on a small apartment on the third floor. The door opens and she takes a step forward, resting her forehead against his chest. “Hi. Can I hide here?”
They’ll forget about it or get too distracted to care after a couple hours. At most a day.
Iruka sighs and curls his arm around her back, tugging her into a hug that settles almost all her irritation at once. “Of course, Naruto.”

Ray I had a funny thought.
What if Naruto were to travel back in time before Minato rescues Kushina and they become a couple and sees their dynamic?
From what Kushina told him he thought he would just see his mom dismissing Minato and Minato just stalking Kushina.
He did not expect the active hostility between the two. To the point Naruto starts fearing he is in an alternate dimension. Minakushi hate each other's guts that much.
And their response to meeting same age Naruto (who they don't know is their child) is to literally fall in love (platonically) with him and play a tug of war over him.
To the point that Naruto has to play their desperate matchmaker, and starts finding out more about the way his parents were treated by the people around them.
Minato-Kushina: *taking one look at Naruto* Perfect little brother? PERFECT LITTLE BROTHER!!!!
Minato:
Kushina:
Minato-Kushina: HE'S MINE!
Naruto: *sweating and trying to fix this so that he's, you know, eventually born*
Naruto: You two could share if you were together
Minato:
Kushina:
Minato-Kushina: *drawing kunai* Battle For Naruto Rights Begin!

I also have a short manga called "Bad Feeling" I translate all pages into English so everyone can read it.
Kakashi's thoughts: "When I panicked and used the rai-kiri to protect Rin from an enemy flying towards her, I received a deep wound in my side. A sharp pain pierced my body, leaving me no chance to stay on my feet for the next couple of hours. Apparently , there was poison on the kunai, just as I thought"
Rin: Kakashi!
Kaka: We retreat “My body failed me. I still fell to the ground. After that, I remember everything only in fragments.”
“It seemed to me that I was dying: Blood was soaking my clothes at high speed, the pain rang through my body with sharp sensations, as if my nerve endings were being torn from the inside. Damn hell.”
“I heard Rin’s voice so far away from me, although she was sitting next to me.”
"I heard another voice in the background. It seems that Teacher Minato is already here. He's 20 minutes late…"
"Quiet and Dark"
"Am I dead?"
“Is there nothing after death?”
"And I was wrong. Heart rate monitor" Rin: Kakashi! How are you I healed everything as best I could, but my skills were not enough to remove all the poison "I made her worry… After Obito died, she was scared by my pale appearance." Rin: You scared me quite a bit when you started to lose consciousness, but the doctor said it was because of the sharingan
Kaka: I'm fine “But despite this, there was still a bad feeling inside me. As if the danger was not yet over.” "As if something terrible will happen later" "Not now"
Minato: Wait, someone is coming
Comrade: Minato, are you sure that this is the enemy? Minato: "Oh no…"
Minato: Kakashi, can you hear me?! Minato: Take her and take her to Konoha Comrade: Yes, of course
Minato: I…
“I think it was terribly painful for the teacher to see this picture.” Minato: Forgive me, I didn't have time!
“But the terrible thing was that the bad feeling never left me. The anxiety inside continued to build up. I thought a lot about this feeling. But for two years I began to ignore it, and only then did I understand why this feeling would not let me go.”
"After that day it was empty"

ummmm more parenthood 2, which is now titled "motherhood and other world-alerting endeavors"
i know i want to do a six year time skip, and also i want to keep the format of the first scene being naruto's POV, but im debating how i want to introduce what kushina has been up to. so..... idk, this might get rearranged
also i decided to kill hiruzen off last second so NO i do not know who hokage is!!!!
*****
“Um…” Naruto's dad said, looking around them. They were out in a forest, with trees skinnier than the ones Naruto was used to climbing around Konoha. There was the sound of birds, but no bustle of city life that Naruto was used to hearing when he went into the stretches of forest in Konoha.
Minato’s grip on his hand tightened. “Dad?” Naruto asked.
Minato grinned down at him, looking sheepish like he did whenever he was about to tell Naruto he’d accidentally burned part of dinner or that they had to go do boring work.
“We might be a little lost,” Minato said. “Here, let’s take a water break, and I’ll figure out where we are.”
Naruto was pretty sure half the “water breaks” his dad made him take were just so Minato could figure out what to do next. During training, they occurred suspicious frequently after Naruto admitted he didn’t understand something about doing ninja stuff, and then his dad wouldn’t drink his own water and just frown into space like he was thinking really hard.
Naruto took his water anyway. He was a little bit thirsty. His dad closed his eyes in concentration, which was new.
When Minato didn’t immediately explain what was up, Naruto decided to make a game out of throwing his water canteen into the air and catching it. His first toss was really easy, so he threw it a little higher the second time. This one he fumbled a little but still caught. So then, he threw it as hard as he could, and it went sailing away from him.
His dad snatched it out of the air.
“Naruto, be careful with your things,” he said absentmindedly, tapping his chin in thought.
Minato handed Naruto his water back, and Naruto rolled it in his hands.
“My Hiraishin network,” Minato said slowly. “Is… still not right…”
“Hiraishin?” Naruto asked. Hiraishin was his dad's cool teleportation technique. Were they going to do it again?
“Remember how I put markers everywhere?” Minato asked, and Naruto nodded. “I can, um, sense where they all are. So, I know Konoha is two days south, but the network of markers is wrong for my Konoha, and it’s also wrong for your Konoha, and I think we’re in… Grass Country, for some reason.”
“Huh?” Naruto said. Basically all he understood was that his dad had messed up and stuck them in the wrong country. His dad didn’t seem panicked though, so Naruto wasn’t upset.
Minato smiled down at him, and Naruto could basically see the gears in his head turning to try explaining it again to Naruto. His dad was kind of lousy at explanations the first time, but he always tried again and again until Naruto understood. Naruto liked that about him.
But then, instead of explaining, Minato’s face suddenly went super serious. He scooped Naruto up into his arms, rotated, and threw a bunch of kunai into the trees.
A woman jumped out of the trees. Naruto didn’t think his dad had been trying to hit her with the kunai at all, as she didn’t have to dodge or anything, and a bunch of the kunai went sailing into the branches of the trees.
She had bright red hair tied up on top of her head, with a few strands down to frame her face. The red head hair made Naruto think of his mom, but this lady had a pointier chin and higher cheekbones, whereas Naruto’s mom had a round face like him. Her gray eyes went wide at the sight of the two of them.
“What the fuck is this?” she swore.
“Uh, hi!” Naruto’s dad greeted. “Umm, we’re just passing through… no need to fight or anything!”
The lady seemed really angry though, and she threw a kunai at them. Naruto wasn’t scared though, because his dad could dodge anything. And he did dodge— one second they were on the forest floor, and the next his dad was squatting in the tree branches behind the woman.
Minato didn’t attack back.
“Naruto, get on my back,” he murmured, and Naruto obediently crawled up and onto his back.
The lady didn’t immediately jump up to attack them either. There were a bunch of gold chains on the ground when they’d been standing, and they disintegrated into dust as the woman whirled around.
“You’re a decent copy, I guess,” the woman said. “Does this mean you idiots figured it out? Well, good job!”
She made the hand signal for release, and her face and hair changed shape. Her hair was only shoulder-length now, and her face rounder. Her eyes turned a darker shade of blue-gray.
Then she leapt up, aiming a kick at them, and Minato absolutely did not dodge.
xXx
Kushina was pissed. Instead of finding the normal team of Konoha-nin out to find her, she instead found some idiot pretending to be her late husband. As if that would work on her!
She and Kasumi were still trading off, going on these missions, and she was wearing Kasumi’s face just as she always did. She dropped it quickly. They must know it was really her, to send this despicable trick at her.
Plus, she was going to kill him. The kid could go— why were they sending someone so little?— but this man was going to die.
She wrapped his legs in chains, tying him to the tree branch he was squatting on and aimed a kick at his chest. She didn’t know how he had faked hiraishin, but she’d use this attack to monitor what he was doing without him being able to use the element of surprise.
He didn’t dodge. His face had gone all pale and sweaty, his eyes wide with shock, and Kushina hit him dead in the stomach. He hunched over, and the the little boy looked up at her with big blue eyes, and Kushina wouldn’t hurt a kid that tiny, but she needed to steady her footing before she fell out of the trees, so she reached forward—
The man disappeared, leaving her chains behind. He reappeared two trees over, sticking himself to the trunk right over where one of his fake kunai had embedded in it. He was outright shaking as he doublechecked the little boy’s monkey-like grip on him.
“W-wait, Kushina,” he started. “I’m… you…”
He hiccupped.
Is this idiot crying? Kushina thought, eyes scanning the canopy for where else he’d tossed kunai. This was right out of Minato’s playbook, and also, how was he faking that? There was no point using her chains until she could figure that out.
“Dad?” the little kid asked, unafraid but clearly confused.
An alarm went off in Kushina’s brain. The kid really did look like… except, no, this was a trick, another one of Konoha’s psychology ploys to make her come back.
“Kushina,” the man said, and his voice sounded exactly like Minato, exactly the way he used to say her name.
She was, maybe, hyperventilating.
“Stop it,” Kushina yelled. She grew her chains from the trees now, grabbing at the three pronged kunai. “He’s dead, you sicko! Just leave me alone!”
“No, no, let me explain,” the cruel fake spluttered. “Kushina, please—”
She grabbed at his arms and legs with her chains, and he teleported again, except she tossed all his marked kunai into a pile of the forest floor so she knew where he’d go. She dove at him, tangling him in chains again and aiming for his stupid fake face with her kunai.
The fake Minato teleported about three inches back, right out of her chains, and grabbed at her wrists. He’d left the kid in the tree, clinging to a branch, and without the little boy to worry about, he fought her hand to hand. He didn’t seem to want to injure her, though, and Kushina had always been physically stronger than Minato, and this fight should have been hers, except her vision went completely blurry from tears.
“Kushina,” the lookalike— the horrible mean trick— insisted, grasping her hands in his. “Kushina, listen to me.”
And then he recited his wedding vows to her, secret promises Minato had made to her in the privacy of their bedroom that weren’t for anyone else to hear. He said them with the same soft blue eyes he’d had the first time, the same wetness as tears welled in them, because Minato was a lot of things and one of those things was a crybaby.
Kushina went limp in front of him. She did nothing to fight him as he spoke and held her hands with all the warmth they’d had when he’d held her for the first time, even though she knew this couldn’t be real. She didn’t deserve for this to be real. She stood there, frozen and useless as she’d been the day she lost him, listening to him explain time travel to her. She stared down at his hands. They were the same as before, the same size and shape and feel on her hands.
And then she looked up, at the little boy now scaling down the side of the tree. The boy blinked back at her, with eyes as blue as the lookalike’s. His hair was the same as Minato, but his face…
Kushina couldn’t breathe.
“Dad, what’s going on?” the boy asked, jogging over to them. “Why does she look like mom?”
Mom, Kushina thought, sinking to her knees.
“Hold on, Naruto,” the lookalike told the kid, and then he knelt down right with her in the underbrush. He re-explained time travel to the boy, slower and for a little kid’s mind, and Kushina barely processed anything he was saying because that was her son.
“Kushina,” the lookalike interrupted her thoughts. His hand was firmly on her shoulder, holding her back. She’d reached for the boy.
Kushina felt a brief flicker of anger. How dare anyone keep her from her son?
But he was right, wasn’t he? He was right the way Minato was always right when she worked herself up, a calm to her storm. Naruto was her son, but he didn’t know her. She couldn’t just grab for a child who didn’t know her. That could upset or confuse him.
Kushina took a deep, shuddering breath.
“Dad,” Naruto said, hopping from foot to foot nervously. “Is that… is she really…?”
Minato smiled at him, and it was like being able to breathe after six years of drowning.
“That’s your mom, Naruto.”
Kushina could not just fling herself at a son who didn’t know her. But she straightened her back and threw her arms apart, letting him make the first move. If he didn’t want a hug, if he were shy or uncomfortable or afraid, she had to respect that, no matter how much she wanted to just hold her baby boy. She was going to love Naruto exactly how he needed to be loved.
Naruto tackled her, his little arms flying around her shoulders. She wrapped her own arms around him, as tight as she dared, and his little legs went around her waist. She fell back on her butt with her energy, laughing.
“You grew so big,” she laughed into his hair.
“I’m six!” he said proudly into her shoulder, his face buried in the fabric of her shirt, his voice muffled and barely audible. “Going on seven!”
Kushina pulled him away, setting both her hands over Naruto’s cheeks. They were so pudgy, just like hers had been. Really, he had Minato’s hair, but the shape of his face was all hers.
“Let me look at you,” Kushina said, drinking in the sight of him, finally letting her brain process what she’d seen before. Naruto’s eyes were the exact color of Minato’s, and his cheeks had cute little whiskers, just like Mito’s notes on the Kyuubi had said they would. He seemed a little small for six, but Minato had been a little pipsqueak until puberty too….
“Naruto,” Kushina said very gravely. “I can’t help it, you know. I love you.”
Naruto giggled, and she pulled him back against her chest for another hug.
Minato hovered awkwardly over them, and Kushina didn’t know what to say to him, about this impossible miracle. She wanted, desperately, for him to wrap his arms around the both of them and tell her the last six years had just been a nightmare, and they could all go home to Konoha together. But she’d also read Tobirama’s theories on time travel. This wasn’t really her Minato or her Naruto. Naruto reacted like he’d never met her, but for all she knew, Minato and his Kushina had had years more together before something happened.
She gave Naruto another little squeeze and looked up at Minato. He was crying too, even as he bent over them, because apparently every Minato was a giant pansy.
“Um, sorry,” he said, wiping his eyes. “Are we being attacked right now?”
“Oh shit,” Kushina swore, on her feet in less than a second, Naruto still clutched in her arms. Right. Those guys. The guys she’d come out here to fight in the first place.
“Mom said a bad word!” Naruto yelled, delighted.
“Naruto, ignore that,” Kushina said, the words coming out of her mouth in a jumbled mess. Too many things were happening right now. She didn’t know how Minato would react to her being attacked by Konoha, or her explanation for it, and she didn’t want Naruto being exposed to violence so young—
Minato put himself between her and Naruto, back fully to her even with nearly seven years of distance, and Kushina felt the prick of tears at her eyes. He still trusted her.
She wouldn’t make Minato fight Konoha-nin, and she wouldn’t let Naruto witness death before it was necessary. The second she had exact locations for her pursuers, she activated her bloodline limit with a twitch of her hand. Gold chains yanked them from the trees, wrestling them to the ground and pinning them down. There. Harmless and mostly unharmed.
In front of her, Minato relaxed.
“They’re Konoha?” he said, face swiveling around to look at her curiously.
He didn’t look suspicious or upset. Just curious and a little confused.
Kushina would have liked to break this to him more slowly, with more time to explain what had happened, and maybe not in front of Naruto. But she also wasn’t the type of person who backed down from tough conversations.
“I left Konoha,” she said. Her voice sounded hollow in her own ears. “They disagreed with that.”
Minato frowned, and she could see fifty questions forming in his big brain.
Before he could voice any of his questions, Naruto asked, “So this Konoha is evil too?”
Kushina stared down at him. “What do you mean?” she asked.
Minato pinched the bridge of his nose. “Your Konoha wasn’t evil, Naruto,” he said.
“What do you mean?” Kushina repeated. Were this Minato and this Naruto from… different Konoha? How? Why was Naruto in an “evil” Konoha? He seemed okay, warm and solid in her arms, but she knew what Danzo had wanted to do to her, what any number of people might have done if Sarutobi’s protection had slipped—
“But they have to be evil if they’re fighting mom,” Naruto replied. “She’s a hero! You said!”
Kushina felt her bottom lip quiver. Her? A hero of Konoha? No way.
Naruto pressed his cheek against her shoulder again, making some face up at Minato that she couldn’t see. Whatever Naruto’s expression, it made all of Minato’s serious attitude collapse in a little smile.
“Okay,” Minato said, his eyes meeting Kushina’s. They’re as blue as Naruto’s. “What are you going to do with them?”
“I was…” Kushina’s hand went up, cupping the back of Naruto’s head. He was big enough to be in the Academy, so he was big enough to hear this, at least. “I was going to kill them.”
She met Minato’s eyes grimly. She had no idea what his context was, she realized, but he was wearing his Hokage cloak. She assumed he’d probably argue with her over this, but she wasn’t going to lie to him or pretend to be ashamed. She left Konoha for good reasons, and Konoha disagreed, and now every once in a while she had to kill Konoha-nin over it.
Minato spun a kunai in his hand, and Kushina refused to look nervous about it.
“Alright,” he said, smile broadening. “Naruto, you remember our conversation about this, right?”
Kushina watched, stunned, as Minato turned back around, to face the four ninja she’d caught. A second later, they were dead. No further questions asked; Kushina had said something, and Minato had gone along with her.
“But…” Kushina started.
“I assume if you left, there’s something wrong in Konoha,” Minato said. The kunai disappeared, and he turned back to her. “Let me guess— Danzo?”
“No, I… I killed Danzo,” Kushina said flatly.
To her surprise, Minato laughed.

“I’m afraid I must call you out of retirement for a final mission.”
Cold ice shot through Tobi’s chest. Fuck.
Did he know? He couldn’t. If he knew, he wouldn’t show it like this. His visit with T&I would be a lot less cheerful, that’s for sure. Was he prodding Tobi, watching for his reaction? Did Sarutobi honestly think he’d slip up? Tobi was incapable of slipping up. He couldn’t tell the truth with a kunai to his throat at this point.
“What sort of mission is it?” Tobi asked excitedly, ripping open the folder. He held the paper up and slowly mouthed the words on the page, fighting to get through the page. Look at him, he filled out his mission reports in crayon and could barely read. “Mission report…assignment duration, promotion or release…pay…oh, ew…assignment…jounin sensei…”
Tobi trailed off.
Distantly, he heard himself say, “Um. Maybe this is a mistake?”
As promised in last post. Kakashi & Obito roleswap. Barely. It's complicated. Please pay no attention to how many roleswaps I have written. Just ignore it. Do me a favor and do not think about it. OK? Thank you.
Snippet from a much longer, much messier document. This part was the very first part writiten and very much a proof of concept. I'm trying to figure out if I should overhaul the thing and turn this into an actual story, so let me know.
Short beginning scene of Tobito's Wild Ride under the cut.
“Tobi. Thank you for coming.”
Obviously, Tobi didn’t bow or kneel. That wasn’t the sort of person Tobi was. He just grinned broadly, waving so broadly that his body swayed with the motion. “Gramps! Hello! Wow, you’ve gotten old since I’ve seen you!”
Sarutobi chuckled, raising a pipe to his mouth. The pipe - either ‘I’m thinking hard’, ‘I want to pretend I’m thinking hard and giving due consideration to your idea when I don’t really care’, or ‘I’ve already decided and I’m pretending that you have a say in this’. What was the point of the last one? This was a literal military dictatorship. Tobi forgot how exhausting this man could be.
“It has been a while,” Sarutobi said indulgently. “Since…the T&I incident, I believe?”
Tobi giggled, high and childish. “Inoichi-san got sooo mad. But Tobi said he was real, real, real sorry, so I hope he’s not still mad…oh, no.” Tobi gasped, face falling in desolation. “Is Inoichi-san still mad at me? Oh, Tobi can go apologize again -”
“It’s water under the bridge.” Tobi exhaled gustily, wiping the back of his hand against his brow. It wasn’t his fault Inoichi hated him. Apparently his mind was absolutely impenetrable. Something about constant children’s lullabies just playing full blast in his head. Or songs regarding a specific time of day someplace in the world. “I have to apologize, Tobi. I always feel as if I should keep a better eye on you. There’s never enough time in the day for all of the people we care about. Please forgive me for my inattention to you.”
Manipulative old fuck. Tobi panicked, embarrassed by the attention and affection. He waved his hands quickly, almost jumping up and down. “Gramps! It’s okay! Tobi’s not lonely or sad! He still has Sasuke-chan! Sasuke-chan wasn’t brutally murdered, so Tobi’s A-OK!” Tobi had to tell himself that a lot. Every morning after a nightmare, which meant every morning period. “And I met a really nice old lady yesterday and helped her down the street. She gave me an apple sweet. It was delicious! So there’s nothing to forgive, Gramps!”
“I’m glad,” Sarutobi said warmly. Ugh. Tobi knew objectively that Minato-sensei had tried to imitate that tone, but he still liked to convince himself that Sarutobi was mimicking Minato-sensei. That was a good one, he’d have to use it. “Sasuke-kun is actually why I called you here today.”
That kid. Tobi sighed. “Tobi is sorry that Tobi cannot control Sasuke-chan. I’ve told him that punching Naruto-kun is bad, but he just doesn’t listen…”
“I’m sure you’ll find a method somehow.” Sarutobi pushed a thin file folder across the desk, and Tobi curiously stepped forward and picked it up. He’d know a file like that anywhere. It was a mission assignment folder.
How did Tobi feel about this? Tobi sure as hell knew how Obito felt - desperately wondering if a T&I visit was in his future. Tobi was scared of the missions, sure. But he was a five year old. How would a five year old react to these things?
Well. Tobi knew how he would have reacted. He would have sighed and rolled his eyes about yet another mission. Pretty impressive when you were burned out of your career at five years old. He blamed the two month graduation for years before he learned of Rin and Kakashi’s hell and eventually concluded that it could have been worse. At least Tobi was paid for his war zone.
“A mission?” Tobi gushed. He clenched on the folder far too tightly, like a child clutching a wheezing frog. “I’m going on missions again?” He jumped a little, his usual little show of excitement. Kept his energy up. “Does that mean Gramps isn’t mad at me anymore?”
Tobi carefully snuck a glance up from the folder, checking Sarutobi’s expression. Sarutobi’s face was impassive stone, as usual, but he looked a little worn too. “We were never angry with you.”
Tobi fully looked up, tilting his head and frowning. “Nuh-uh. Tobi remembers. Everybody was so mad at Tobi. Just because his hand slipped…it wasn’t Tobi’s fault.”
“We know,” Sarutobi said gently. “Minato didn’t retire you because he was angry with you. He was only looking out for you.”
Well, Tobi didn’t want to be out of fucking retirement. It was objectively insane to put him on any mission. Tobi had gotten sabotaging every attempt to make him a useful member of society down to a fucking art. He had a shitton of inheritance to blow and a nice long civilian life to blow it on. Maybe he was too stubborn about it - Iruka was definitely convinced that he was the second laziest person in the village and sabotaged his assigned jobs on purpose, which Tobi would have resented if it wasn’t absolutely true - but spite was important. Spite woke him up in the morning.
The only thing that helped him tolerate this stupid village was his hate for it. Ain’t that just the way.
“Trust me. You’re hardly our first choice.” Finally, they agreed on something. “But you’re the only one in this village with a Sharingan, Tobi. You’re the only one who can teach Sasuke how to use his power.”
“Nuh-uh. Um. This is a mistake. Ha ha.” Tobi ripped the paper from the folder, crumpling it into a ball and tossing it over his shoulder. “Because, um, I can’t use my Sharingan. Did Gramps maybe forget that? Ha ha?”
“But you still remember how to use it. Even if you can’t use it yourself, you can still walk Sasuke-kun through using his.” Sarutobi eyed Tobi knowingly, the dim glowing embers of his pipe reflecting a soft light in his eyes. “You were once a genius with the Sharingan, Tobi. They said you were the best since Madara.”
Yeah! Yeah, they did say that, old man! That was the whole fucking problem!
Mention of the Sharingan or Tobi’s old talents always upset him, so this was a great springboard into nipping this in the bud. He’d throw a hissy fit if he had to. Tobi had killer hissy fits. That was how Sasuke was given a seat as head of house in the Clan Council. Tobi’s wail could pierce eardrums and Sasuke had deserved that fucking seat.
“Tobi doesn’t like the Sharingan anymore!” Tobi exclaimed. “Tobi wants to help Sasuke-chan, Gramps, cross Tobi’s heart! But Tobi doesn’t like the Sharingan and the Sharingan don’t like Tobi. And that’s just the truth.” Tobi crossed his arms, sniffling and scrunching his nose. “And don’t say what you’re gonna say. Tobi knows what’s up. Minato-sensei’s little boy is on that team too, isn’t he?”
He absolutely was. Tobi had speed-read the entire document while he was reading it out loud. But even the remnant of Obito’s genius was still considerable, and Tobi’s moments of keen insight were useful for pushing the enemy into a corner.
“I thought you might appreciate the chance to look after your sensei’s son,” Sarutobi said mildly, removing a silver lighter from his pocket. Engraved, a gift from Biwako. Was that on purpose? A mind game on Tobi, an unconscious memory on his part, or a purposeful evocation of a memory just for him? Was he trying to remind Tobi of something or corner Obito? Damn this man. “Help him like your sensei helped you.”
The really great thing about Tobi was that he could get away with saying this. It was only to the left of cathartic, but at least it was in the zone. “I’m not stupid, Gramps!” Tobi yelled. The ANBU in the corners twitched, but when Sarutobi’s fingernail clicked on the silver lighter they subsided. “You’re giving Minato-sensei and Kushina-neechan’s little baby and his fox to the last Sharingan because you want the Sharingan to eat the Fox! Why are you doing what you want when you know it won’t work? Tobi’s tried, he can’t - he can’t, Gramps.”
It wasn’t the sort of thing any self-respecting Uchiha would admit. Half of them would kill themselves if they lost their Sharingan. Uchiha Obito, whose Sharingan was the pride and joy of the clan - who was the Uchiha’s Uchiha before Itachi-kun was even a twinkle in his mother’s eye - would never abandon his one point of value.
And everybody knew how prideful the Uchiha were. There was no Uchiha alive who would pretend to be Tobi. Could you imagine? What Uchiha would humiliate themselves like this with a goofy smile on their face? A regular human being could barely do it. An Uchiha? Forget it. Impossible.
But Kushina-neechan’s favorite shinobi was always the most surprising of all. And Obito cared about that more than all the rest.
The only ninja who would have ferreted him out was Kakashi. Kakashi and his dopey, stupid smile. His ridiculous porn books and his clumsy pratfalls. His laziness, lateness, and utter underachiever lifestyle. Only Kakashi ever said those words, with a wink and a smile: a true shinobi looked underneath the underneath. So save your energy and watch the clouds with me, Uchiha-kun. No? Maybe next time…
The next time never came. Being a good Uchiha had always meant something, and the useless son of a disgraced clan meant nothing at all. Nothing to anybody but Minato and Kushina and Rin and Obito.
“You’re better than nothing.” In that second, Sarutobi really did look very tired. He didn’t look like he was lying at all. “You’re the best we have, Tobi.”
Tobi was silent. Sarutobi knew it wasn’t much of a compliment. Even somebody like Tobi would know that.
“As a favor to Sasuke-kun and Naruto-kun,” Sarutobi said, “and as a favor to me. Please give these children the help you can. Don’t worry - I’ll ask the other jounin to pitch in and help.”
Tobi lowered his voice, and he allowed his tone to grow a little more serious. “I’m not strong. I’m not good at molding chakra and I haven’t really fought anyone in a long time. I can’t protect the children.”
“We’ll be careful,” Sarutobi allowed. But there was something in his eye… “You may be rusty, but I doubt you’re out of the ring yet. Have a little faith in yourself.” The look in his eyes glinted and grew, and for the first time he stared right at Tobi. “You did hold your own against Uchiha Itachi.”
They stared at each other for a long second, two. A little too late, Tobi laughed and scrubbed the back of his neck. “Silly Gramps! I said a billion times. Tobi hid. I don’t think Itachi-kun thought it was worth it to kill me…I don’t think Itachi-kun ever thought I was a real Uchiha. But we’ve showed him, huh?” Tobi grinned, jabbing a finger at his chest. “Now there’s three whole Uchiha in the whole wide world! One third’s a serial killer, one third’s twelve, and one third is…drumroll please…Tobi! Konoha’s in good hands, ne?”
Tobi smiled at the man who ordered Uchiha Itachi to kill their entire family.
Sarutobi smiled back at the man who was currently pulling the most intricate and improbable lying campaign in a village of ninjas. In Obito’s defense, it was to save his own life. Sarutobi had murdered his family to - well, save the village, but Tobi didn’t have to like it.
“Thank you for accepting the mission. I trust you’ll do splendidly.”
“Uh. Tobi didn’t -”
“The children ought to be waiting for you in the schoolroom at 1000 hours. You ought to head over - I expect you’re already late.”
Tobi squealed, looking at the unwound watch on his wrist and slapping his head. “Oh no! I’m late, I’m late, I’m late! Bye, Gramps! You promise-promise to get back-up for Tobi, right?”
Pleasantly, Sarutobi said, “I would not trust you alone with those children, no.”
“Yay! Okay, gotta goooo!”
When he left Sarutobi’s office, he was about ten minutes late to his meeting with the children. By the time he arrived at the school he was over an hour late. Lost on the road of life and all that. It didn’t matter - venting about this ridiculousness to Kakashi was way more important than meeting the brats on time.
This would be a disaster. There was no way this would end well. Tobi was a brain damaged, traumatized moron who couldn’t use his one skill and who hadn’t been on active duty since he whoopsie-daisy’d his sword into his best friend’s heart. If Sarutobi didn’t keep up his promise and drag in the other jounin to take up his slack then he’d riot. Did he want Tobi to do work? Tobi? He had resigned from capitalism and the military industrial complex. Pulling him into this shit again - as if he hadn’t suffered enough -
As if Sasuke and Naruto hadn’t. Maybe one of Sarutobi’s stupid-ass motivations was because he knew that only Tobi would be nice to Sasuke and Naruto. Damn Naruto especially. For that, at least…if only as a favor to Minato-sensei…
To make up for it…maybe a little bit of real work would be the least he could do.
Ugh. Hopefully not that much.
Tobi finally touched down at the school, following the Academy hallways to Sasuke’s classroom by route memory. He dropped off Sasuke’s lunch a lot. It embarrassed him so much. It was classic.
Tobi walked into the classroom and allowed a large basket of glitter to fall on top of his head.
A peal of laughter squealed throughout the room, and Tobi opened his eyes to see Uzumaki Naruto clutching his sides and laughing his ass off. Quite rudely, Sasuke had his feet propped up on a desk. That third girl was sitting primly in her seat, terrified.
“What an idiot! Our new sensei actually fell for - wait.” Naruto straightened, squinting at Tobi. He yelled, jabbing a finger at him. “Hey! Number Two Ramen Fan! What the hell are you doing here?”
Sasuke almost fell out of his seat. He scrambled to his feet, panicked in his special Sasuke way - that was, eyes a little wider than usual. “Tobi? Did I forget my lunch?”
“Um?” Sakura Haruno hunched her shoulders in her seat, picking at the corner of a scroll. “Uchiha Obito’s our sensei. I thought you knew. Did you…not know?”
“Is this a joke?” Sasuke cried. “Who the hell thought this was funny? Tobi couldn’t fight his way out of a paper bag! If they’re bullying us again, I swear to god I’ll strangle whoever -”
“Whoah,” Naruto cried, impressed. “Violent!”
“Everybody’s always bullying Tobi,” Sasuke snapped. “I’m an Uchiha. What sort of Uchiha would I be if I tolerated that?”
Glitter dripped down Tobi’s hair and sprinkled onto his clothing. He smiled, big and bright, and clapped his hands together. Sasuke was groaning, but Naruto and Sakura just leaned in closer - caught in a morbid curiosity, desperate to meet their own fate. Signed and sealed. “Tobi’s first impression of you all is…you’re so funny! Tobi likes you!”
The kids paled.
#my writing#i had to do a ton more research on the character (“ton”) since writing this so I think i might write him differently now#perhaps. perhaps.#anyway yes the conceit is “obito is uchiha genius who is faking brain damage on main for the most insane reasons”#he's not more normal than if he's a supervillain. frankly. worse.

Discombobulated
Discombobulated
(adj.) emotionally confused or uncertain
……………………….…………………………………………………
The mission wasn't supposed to go this way. It was a B-ranked mission that took the two teams four days in the middle of the Earth country to complete, and they were just on their way home.
Kakashi should have foreseen this somehow, despite being just a Chunin with no Dōjutsu to see into the future. He still should have been prepared.
They all should have.
The enemy had strung on them when they were at their lowest, chakra exhausted from a previous battle.
Kakashi hadn't seen the man grab you, nor had he seen the blade covered in poison being stabbed into you, all he saw was the expression of pure terror Rin had on her face as she witnessed the scene.
He heard though, the screams of Kushina as she raced to you. The cried of Gai as Genma held him back from running after his sensei. Minatos calls to head to the cottage a mile back.
Now here he was, standing in the doorway of the Cottage as Rin and Kushina frantically tried to save you.
Obito, Genma, and Gai sat on the porch, eyes trained forward in horror. If you died… you'd be the first friend any of them had lost.
Kakashi, he didn't turn away. He watched as Rin, with tears streaming down her face, dug through all her medical bags searching for her antidotes.
He watched as Kushina grabbed a kunai to cut open your shirt and sports bra, and he watched as Minato held your hair back as you leaned over the shitty old kitchen table to throw up your own blood.
Your face, sweaty and flushed from the fever that was beginning to rise. Your pretty eyes that he had caught himself looking at were blinking tiredly. Your hair was wet, stuck to your face and knotted around your head.
Kakashi couldnt look away.
You were still pretty, he thought. Even if you looked like death.
Minato had to force him, pulling him away from the scene as Kushina pulled the fabric from your front, exposing the wound.
“You don't want to see this.”
Good Minato, who despite dealing with three kids in the middle of the war, still tried to keep them somewhat pure from the horrors of this world.
Kakashi, as soon as he turned away, knew you were going to die.
You had been insignificant to him for most of your lives, just another face in the classroom you two had shares.
You were nice, he knew that, but being nice got people killed and he was certain you'd die if you ever got into a battle. Back in the academy, you were quiet, nice, and friendly but insignificant to him.
You had changed since he had graduated before you, and left you to grow.
You turned into a fighter, not as good as Gai but you were above average. You fought with everything, all you had and it impressed Kakashi how much you grew.
Being Kushinas student must have done you some good, because you also held a fire similar to hers.
Maybe that’s why you had rushed to Genma, fighting the enemy that had knocked him out.
Maybe that’s why you had cut the man’s face, scarring him.
Maybe that’s why you were grab by your throat, held down and stabbed with the poison covered blade.
Maybe it was because now you were dying on a rotting table inside of an abandoned cottage in enemy woods.
Maybe it was because you were stupid, rushing to save your friend with no consideration for your life.
Maybe that's why he had grown to love you more than a teammate.
You used to be so insignificant in his life, but now you were everywhere.
*first post, might make this a series!*

— An insight about summons: Katsuyu, the slug of the Shikkotsu Forest
The information presented in this post has been checked and revised. My aim is not to hate or to discredit any of the characters mentioned. Please read about me for further information.
This post will contain evidence in picture format directly from the manga Naruto (1999 - 2014) created by Masashi Kishimoto and published by Shueisha in 1999. I will also use information from the official databooks of Naruto.
This informative post will analyze the concept of animal summons in the world of Naruto and highlight Katsuyu’s unique abilities throughout the series providing evidence. This meta will also mention other animal summons from the Three-Way Deadlock. I will not use information present in the novels because there is none.
This meta is crossposted in AO3.
I give my permission to use or share this thread with informative purposes as long as you credit me.
I do not support the anime or the work of Studio Pierrot in regards to Naruto because I consider it over exaggerated and beyond biased. Furthermore, these fillers include some actions that these characters are unable to do in the canon according to official sources and they also generate unnecessary debate.
Please, take this into consideration.
Katsuyu, also known as Katsuyu of the Shikkotsu Forest, is a giant slug from the Shikkotsu Forest, a secret and legendary place from the Three Unexplored Sage Regions (仙人三大秘境, Sennin Sandai Hikyō).
The Three Sage Unexplored Regions according to the Fourth databook.
She is the personal summon of the Fifth Hokage Tsunade, and later, her disciple Sakura Haruno; both women are probably the only people in the world that have been able to summon the slug.
Katsuyu possesses one of the most unique qualities and abilities among animal summons, most of which are still a mystery within the series.
— WHAT IS A SUMMON AND ANIMAL SUMMONS?
A summon is the ability to invoke objects, weapons, people or animals. This action is carried out through a Summoning Technique (口寄せの術, Kuchiyose no Jutsu), a special hand seal based jutsu to transport any element to the user’s location for a limited amount of time.
A Summoning Technique is classified as a space-time ninjutsu and a C-Rank (chūnin level) difficulty jutsu.
Summoning Technique according to the First databook.
Usually, in order to summon objects or weapons, users apply scrolls or special sealing techniques to contain the desired material. This is the case of Tenten, for example; she uses scrolls to seal multiple kunai, shuriken and any weapon of her choice, granting her the title of “Master of space-time ninjutsu”.
However, for animals and living creatures, this is different.
An animal summon is a technique that adds to the ninja’s ninjutsu repertoire, as a shinobi can take advantage of the animal’s abilities for battle or other purposes.
Before any animal can be summoned, the animal and the user must sign a contract with the species or the specific creature using their blood. In order to summon said animal, the user applies some of their blood, normally by biting their fingers, and channels their chakra to their hands thus invoking a sealing pattern that transports their summon to that same location. The amount of chakra used to summon the creatures determines the size and number of summons.
The summoning contract of the Toads of Mount Myōboku, Naruto chapter 92.
In the case of the Three Unexplored Sage Regions, the summoning contracts vary.
Naruto Uzumaki Jiraiya and Minato Namikaze sealed a contract with the toads of Mount Myōboku using their own blood, so when they perform a Summoning Technique, any available toad can offer their services to them.
Orochimaru has his contract with the snakes of the Ryūchi Cave tattooed on his arms. The methods his disciple Sasuke Uchiha uses to summon snakes from the same location is unknown.
Tsunade and Sakura Haruno do not have a physical contract, or at least it has never been revealed. However, by reading the manga, the contract with the Shikkotsu Forest might be through their Strength of a Hundred Seal, as it is only possible to summon Katsuyu if the summoner possesses this seal.
It is unknown if there is a blood contract involved, but it is likely that there is since the method of summoning is blood like his companions.
Orochimaru's contract Naruto chapters 165 and 344.
— KATSUYU AND HER ABILITIES, WHAT MAKES HER SPECIAL?
Katsuyu is a very intriguing and interesting animal and the only one whose past has never been explored.
Summon’s habitats and the Three Unexplored Sage Regions are home to a single species of animals.
The Ryūchi Cave is home to snakes such as the White Snake, Manda or Aoda, and Mount Myōboku is home to toads like Gamakichi, Gamamaru or Gamabunta.
But, unlike those, Katsuyu is the only organism living in the Shikkotsu Forest. She does not have any other slug companions.
Following the same scheme as the rest of summons, Katsuyu resembles a real slug.
She is white or ivory in color, with three turquoise stripes running on her head and sides that start on her head and end in her tail.
One special feature about her appearance is that her true size has never been seen. Using one summoner, Katsuyu is bigger than the Hokage Residence, and using two summoners, Katsuyu is the size of the roots of the God Tree, which is just one tenth of her real size according to Tsunade.
Katsuyu's size summoned by one person or two, Naruto chapters 422 and 650.
Her size changes depending on the amount of chakra used to summon her. She can appear as a small slug used to gather intel or help in supplementary tasks, or she can appear as a giant creature using one or two summoners.
Small Katsuyu summoned to assist Headquarters Naruto chapter 561.
Her age is a true mystery. It is known that toads and snakes live many years and have descendants, such as Gamabunta and Gamakichi’s father and son relationship, or Aoda having great grandchildren; or certain summons retiring when they reach an age while their companions or children replace them.
The Three Unexplored Sage Regions are legendary places known for many generations.
Katsuyu, on the other hand, is the only inhabitant of the Shikkotsu Forest. She does not have descendants or companions in her home habitat. Her age or her true origins are a mystery. The first shinobi to discover her existence or previous masters before Sakura Haruno and Tsunade are also unknown.
The first and most important thing to point out is that Katsuyu can only be summoned by users of the Strength of a Hundred Seal. This seal is an extremely difficult jutsu to learn and achieve, so there have only been two summoners in history.
The reason for this is that Katsuyu is such an enormous animal that it requires an immense amount of chakra to summon, and that chakra is stored inside the seal.
Tsunade and her disciple Sakura Haruno are the only beings able to summon Katsuyu Naruto chapter 650.
The primary skill Katsuyu has is the ability to divide herself in many fragments, hundreds or thousands of them in fact. This technique is called Slug Great Division (蛞蝓大分裂, Katsuyu Daibunretsu) and it can be used for supplementary purposes, as well for battle.
In a fight, thanks to her rapid ability to transform her body and divide herself, she can separate herself to nullify attacks by avoiding any strike at incredible speeds. She can do this as many times as she wants without exhaustion. Each of these fragments are also quite fast, able to throw themselves in front of people to shield them from danger.
Manda trapping Katsuyu but she escapes Naruto chapter 170 and Second databook.
She also has the ability to spit a sticky and elastic acid, a jutsu called Tongue Tooth Sticky Acid able to melt stones and vaporize everything it touches (probably senjutsu although never truly revealed). It is also very difficult to dodge due to its unpredictable nature.
Slug acid, Naruto chapter 170 and Second databook.
Unlike Shadow Clones or other regular clones that are independent from each other and are not interconnected, what Katsuyu does is divide her own body in equal parts, so she is in as many places as she wants at once. She is one entity divided into many other independent and interconnected parts while remaining one single body. Each of her divisions behaves like their own person, so she can complete different tasks while also knowing what her other parts are doing in other places.
Being the summon of medical ninjas, Sakura Haruno and Tsunade take advantage of Katsuyu’s ability to divide herself in order to channel their healing chakra and treat as many people as necessary.
With a technique called Immense Network Healing (蛞蝓・網療治夥, Katsuyu: Mōryōjika), Katsuyu collects chakra from the Strength of a Hundred Seal to transform it into healing chakra and treat the injured.
Using the Great Division and Immense Network Healing in tandem, Katsuyu has the ability to heal and protect everyone she makes contact with. Healing any kind of injury or absorbing people inside her in order to shield them from attacks or sudden explosions is her specialty. Her body is able to resist explosions and even Kurama's corrosive chakra.
Katsuyu divides her body and heals the Alliance Naruto chapter 634 and Fourth databook.
In fact, Katsuyu's power is not only limited to healing wounds, but regeneration too. One of her most impressive feats is the ability to maintain a patient in suspended animation, keeping them alive for as long as she possesses chakra from the seal in order to ensure their survival.
Katsuyu was able to keep Tsunade alive despite having her body bisected, which on normal circumstances, would mean instant death. However, the slug's regenerative abilities allowed Tsunade to remain alive until she obtained a chakra boost from a third party. This fact is known as Tsunade does not really present the unique Uzumaki Clan ability to keep themselves alive for as long as possible.
Katsuyu kept Tsunade alive despite having her body cut in half, an impressive feat Naruto chapter 635.
This jutsu also acts as a sensing technique due to Katsuyu being connected to the chakra of the injured in order to heal them and her master. Katsuyu is able to relay Kakashi Hatake and Chōza Akimichi’s conditions to Tsunade through their connection, as the slug is connected to the Strength of a Hundred Seal; as well as being able to tell Sakura that Kurama’s chakra was still connected to the Allied Shinobi Forces.
Katsuyu can transmit the chakra levels and the condition of everyone she is in contact with Naruto chapter 427.
This way, Katsuyu was able to protect Konoha’s citizens from Pain’s Shinra Tensei and even survive Kurama’s toxic chakra.
Able to be in many places at once, her ability to cover infinite distances while her parts remain interconnected allows her to fulfill communication and intel gathering roles. Being in many places and her clones being part of the same body, Katsuyu relays information to one person or multiple people, something she could do by attaching herself to someone’s shoulder and speaking.
It was Katsuyu the one giving Naruto Uzumaki information about Pain and also told him that Nagato had revived Konoha citizens through the clones that stayed in the village, kept every villager informed about the situation and followed evacuation protocols when Naruto transformed into six tails, and told Tsunade everything that was happening in the battlefield thanks to having another body summoned by Sakura on the other side of the country, and vice versa.
Sakura instructing Katsuyu to evacuate the area through the multiple clones Naruto chapter 438.
This communication ability can cover immense ground at once because the communication is instant. It works similar to regular telepathy, but instead of hearing the other person's voice in their head, people are talking to Katsuyu, and Katsuyu in turn is actually talking to herself through her clones.
Katsuyu's clones on different parts of the Land of Lightning tell Tsunade and Sakura the events that have taken place on both ends Naruto chapters 635 and 647.
An animal summon can only perform at the top of their abilities for a limited amount of time, what is known as the summoning time limit.
It is unknown exactly how long the invocation lasts, or whether it varies between animals. A summon will help its master before the jutsu runs out or the summon has exhausted its power.
Gamakichi mentions the summoning time limit Naruto chapter 642.
However, for Katsuyu, this is not the case.
The slug can be summoned for unlimited periods of time and several times a day, as seen when Katsuyu spent the Fourth Shinobi World War by Tsunade’s side in the Headquarters, primarily helping Shikaku Nara and participating in the planification of the troops, and later with the Five Kage against Madara and Sakura with the Allied Shinobi Forces.
This could be explained by the symbiotic bond Sakura and Tsunade share with Katsuyu through the Strength of a Hundred Seal.
The seal stores unimaginable quantities of chakra inside, which are used by Katsuyu to perform healing on people. As long as Katsuyu has been transmitted every drop of chakra in the seal, she will continue her work, as seen when Tsunade gave the slug all the chakra inside her Byakugou to the point it disappeared but Katsuyu physically remained in Konoha until her services were no longer needed.
Tsunade's Byakugou disappears but Katsuyu still serves her purpose as a summon to evacuate Naruto chapter 430.
Still, like any other summon, Katsuyu can be exhausted from battle and disappear. When the Ten Tails absorbed the chakra of every shinobi in the battlefield as the Kurama Chakra Cloak, every Katsuyu fragment attached to them was also absorbed and vanished, but the main body remained intact protecting Sakura Haruno form the tree.
Katsuyu's clones disappeared absorbed by the God Tree Naruto chapter 647.
— THE PERFECT SUMMON?
Katsuyu is very different from the rest of summons.
From the immeasurable amount of chakra it requires to summon her, to her multiple multitasking and supplementary abilities and her mysterious origins, Katsuyu might be the perfect summon and the strongest animal summon of Naruto and Boruto.
Her ability to divide herself in thousands of fragments, a body and chemical composition resistant to blasts that can reshape her own state, no summoning time limit, outstanding healing and regeneration factor, the unlimited wide range communication she offers, acidic attacks, useful to gather intel by herself and turn small enough to offer battle assistant, and a sensory connection with her master and other people she is attached to.
Katsuyu is the ultimate creature.
Without a doubt, the most essential ally in desperate times. A valuable help in case a village is being attacked by powerful enemies that threaten to destroy everything around them, Katsuyu is the only weapon able to protect thousands of people from any attack and offer assistance while in contact with her master and everyone she is with.
Thanks to her, every Konoha villager that had not been killed by the Pain Paths previously could survive the Shinra Tensei explosion that destroyed Konoha, which later allowed the surviving shinobi to handle evacuations, as well as allow Naruto to obtain intel about Pain and Nagato or be told that Konoha's villagers were revived.
Katsuyu is an unrivalled intel summon Naruto chapters 431 and 449.
She was also the main link of communication between the Headquarters and the two different fronts of the war, Five Kage and Allied Shinobi Forces, and the reason why the Five Kage survived the fight despite their fatal injuries.
Lastly, it was also Katsuyu who protected the Allied Shinobi Forces against the roots of the God Tree, saving a large portion of the shinobi from death, and later offered a healing area for their future fight against the Kanzeon Lotus King.
— CURRENT WHEREABOUTS.
Ever since the death of Madara Uchiha, Katsuyu has not been summoned again.
With no threats to the destruction of Konoha or the need to establish connections between battlefields, Katsuyu was not summoned in the Blank Period.
In Boruto, Katsuyu’s debut is strictly linked to Sakura’s appearances: if Sakura does not appear, neither does the slug. This is something that is hard to fathom considering that the village has been exposed to explosions, invasions and multiple deceased shinobi ever since the start that could be prevented by Katsuyu like previous times.
Katsuyu appeared in the anime arc “Kawaki and Himawari in the Academy” where the students had to put on a play about the Sannin and Kawaki dressed as Katsuyu.
Kawaki representing Katsuyu in Boruto episode 267.

Headcanons on shisui, minato, and Yamato on how they'd react to their s/o (civilian shinobi or otherwise:)) getting attacked and almost dying? 😭 need the agnst in my life rn I love ur work ur iconic uwu
A/N: the angsssst! but it's okay I love angst it's what I do haha but mostly as long as it has a happy ending because we deserve that as a treat as do they. And aw thanks sm!
TAGS: angst, reader attacked/almost dies, sad characters, mini scenarios rather than headcanons, mentions of hospitals, mentions of wounds, mentions of being impaled, no graphic injuries, characters blaming themselves, long post under cut
CHARACTERS: Shisui Uchiha, Minato Namikaze, Yamato
SHISUI UCHIHA
Shisui is usually the calm and collected one no matter the situation. He can take out any enemy. Always has a plan and can lighten any situation with a lighthearted quip should it call for it.
But this, oh god nothing can prepare him for this.
You're not supposed to be able to get hit. Your entire jutsu is supposed to be impenetrable. More so than that, he's supposed to be your eyes in case things go wrong, your back up.
The enemy found a weak spot though—pulled a thread in the seam everything falls apart right in front of him.
Shisui feels so powerless as he calls your name.
'I've got you.' He says, catching you just before you hit the ground.
He ducks for cover as kunai come at him from all sides. The rest of the squad focus on the guy who got you. Taking down the rest of the enemies is a sinch in comparison. He can't even think about anything else except getting you out and alive.
When he makes it through the thick of the trees he feels you tremble in his arms.
'Shisui.' You call his name, same as you have a thousand times before but this time it's so quiet, almost ghostly.
Shisui is terried to look down but he has to. He can't let you down by betraying his fears. He needs to make you feel safe.
'H-hey.' He doesn't mean to let his voice slip and tremble as he sees how you don't look so good. 'It's going to be alright. We're almost there.'
You manage a nod.
By the time he makes it to the medics you begin to fade and he panics. They take you off his hands and into the tent to tend to your wounds.
Shisui spends the whole time pacing outside pale as a ghost.
He can't sit or stand still. He's a jolting mess. He can barely accept the water or food offered to him by his comrades.
It's the longest wait of his life waiting for you to wake up.
'Shisui.' Is the first thing you say as you come to.
He cries he's so overcome with emotion. Takes your hand and drops his face against it. Poor Shisui is so exhausted and has been so scared he just loves you so much.
MINATO NAMIKAZE
Guilt overwhelms Minato as he sits in the hospital room waiting for you to wake up.
He wasn't there when you had been injured because he held so much faith in your ability to hold your own and now he can't help but blame himself for being so carless. He should have been there. He should have been with you.
It's not that now he believes you can't handle yourself, it's that he should have been there anyway. Anyone can slip up. Anything can happen. This is proof of that and he knows that now.
If he could go back and do things differently—
No it's too late for that. He would do right and better by you now.
He stays by your side each day waiting for you to wake up. He speaks to you, tells you little things about each day that are trivial but also deep things like how much he cares for you.
'I'm sorry.' He whispers, stroking your hand. 'I love you, I'll be here when you wake up.'
He lets go of your hand and walks over to the window to look out onto the village below.
Everything seems smaller, holds less meaning without you here awake beside him. It's like something is missing. He's no longer quite whole.
There's a stiring behind him and Minato turns wide eyed to find you coming to.
He can't quite believe it when your eyes flutter open.
'Mmm.' You groan. 'Damn that hurts.'
A soft chuckle escapes him and then a few tears too. Just a flood of relief hits at the signs of you being there.
Then you turn to him, a little more awake.
'Hey.' You say. 'What are you doing all the way over there, huh?'
And that's all it takes for him to just crowd you in the tightest (but also careful) hug.
'I'm so glad you're awake.' He whispers. 'I'm so sorry.'
'Don't be sorry.' You assure him. 'I'm glad you're here though.'
He pulls away and looks you deep in the eyes. 'I love you.'
It's enough to take your breath away. 'I love you, too.'
YAMATO
The image of you jumping in front of him to protect him is something Yamato will never forget. He's not sure he can forgive you for it either if you don't wake up.
He knows neither of you had a choice but—
Seeing you there impaled is just not something he can ever forgive.
You should have let it hit him. Village be damned he'd rather—okay he would not rather hundreds of other people die instead of you getting injured but that's besides the point! He should never of had to see you that way. If you didn't worm your way into his life and make him care then—
Oh who is he kidding.
Yamato could never be mad at you.
He's mad at himself. He should never have agreed to put you in this situation in the first place. There should have been a better strategy. He should have thought up a better strategy.
'It was an impossible situation, stop beating yourself up over it and just be there instead.'
Yamato lifts his head.
'Kakashi.' He balls his fists against his pants then sighs unfurling them. 'I know it's just—'
'Just that you think you could have strategised yourself out of an impossible situation now that it's over.'
'This is different.'
'It's always different with the people we care about.' He gives him a knowing expression. 'With the people we love.'
'I don't need a pep talk right now.'
'No but you also don't need to sit here waiting for someone to scold you like you've done something wrong.'
Yamato gives him a doubtful look.
'You both did your duty and what you wanted to do so now you ought to both be together for the waking up part.' Kakashi sighs. 'Neither of you are dying today.'
Yamato takes a deep breath letting it settle in his lungs before he exhales again. Kakashi was right. He needs to be by your side.
'Okay.' Is all he says before he stands and heads to your room, leaving his senpai behind.
The tension is palpable as he enters your room. The machines beeping and your assisted breathing fill his ears. He sits beside you timid as he shifts closer.
'Sorry, I took so long.' Is all he whispers as he wakes for you to wake.
Your eyes flicker open a few moments later as if to let him know it's alright. He's not mad anymore, only relieved. Loved.

Minato is legitimately terrifying. Imagine going into battle and you blink and suddenly there’s a kunai against your neck and you’re staring down at a 15 year old twink with blue eyes so intense they almost glow and he’s just looking at you with the softest smile you’ve ever seen.
#my favorite interpretation of him is that something is WRONG with him#he’s so damaged and so compartmrntalize#minato namikaze#naruto

i should have kept a journal.
the thought comes unbidden, late at night, just as kakashi feels the first tendrils of sleep tugging at his concious mind, dragging him under the heavy blanket of a dream.
but then he is awake, mind spinning, sifting through memories he can't quite pull into focus.
he never expected the loss of the sharingan to have such consequence - for all the tender moments of his life, which he had taken for granted, to meld into the backdrop of a long, arduous tapestry of other moments.
before he lost obito's eye, kakashi had been able to recall with perfect clarity some of his most important memories - times when he had merely blinked the eye open for a second or two, the tomoe spinning to life, draining his chakra as the eye greedily memorized whatever scene lay before it.
he had at his disposal a perfect recorded history of his life; for better and worse.
now, kakashi would happily accept all the bitter ends and entrails if it meant he could remember rin's smile the way it truly looked. if he could recall the exact shade of kushin's hair or the cerulean of minato's eyes.
kakashi would watch every death he had ever witnessed in an endless loop if he could call forth the picture of team 7 in the land of waves, fierce and too small and his. but now he forgets which side sasuke wore his kunai pouch on, the length of sakura's hair, how many wrinkles appeared when naruto scrunched his nose in confusion.
small details. minute. insignificant.
important.
now fading. soon, gone.
kakashi knows he's lost any chance at rest and instead he crawls his way to the desk at the opposite side of his room and he uses his creaky fingers to try and scribble out the memories as they come - birthdays and festivals and quiet nights beneath the stars. he tries to remember the look on gai's face during each of their ridiculous competitions; tenzo's expression when he showed kakashi his first apartment after root.
but it's all a watered down version of what really happened. his fingers are too slow, his brain too tired and unfocused. each lost detail feels like losing. like grief.
the way he felt when he forgot his mother's eye color, when he realized he could no longer ask his father about it; could no longer remember the exact pitch of the older man's nose, how many teeth he revealed when he smiled.
kakashi should have known how tenuous a memory can be. had known the devastation of loss, of forgetting, long before he knew the power of remembrance; the true gift of the sharingan.
more than prowess in battle, the eye was powerful because it would not allow him to forget. good, bad, happy, traumatic, it was all still there, waiting to be spun to life beneath a crimson veil.
now everything is gone.
and kakashi realizes he should have kept another record because all those precious moments bled away, replaced by jutsu and regulations and quotes from icha icha as if they could ever matter more than the warmth of his first kiss, the comfort of loving arms after battle.
and it seems such a waste for the most exquisite mundanities of his life to fade into a watercolor backdrop of his world - the colors there, but all the detail lost - in favor of necessity.
because none of it matters if he can't remember the moments that made it worthwhile.
