Martini Metford Artillery Carbine MkIII

Issued Londonderry in April 1896
Conversion from Martin Henry MkIII Rifle
The carbine was made from MkIII rifles withdrawn from Militiary service.
The conversion consisted of a new purpose made .303 Metford rifled barrel, new .303 block.
The bayonet fitting is the “Rigby”pattern and is designed to accept the P1888 sword bayonet. The single part for-end is fixed via a hook plate into the receiver.
This example was converted in 1895 from a 1880 Dated MkIII.577/450 Martini Henry Rifle
Issued to the Royal Artillery in Londonderry April 1896.
Later issued to the County Cadets & Marked Not For Ball
